Satellite L40 - dysfunction AC adapter

I bought my son a Satellite L40 for Christmas that he was really nice to receive. Everything was going well until April this year when it just stopped working.
While it was easy enough to repair booking, trying to get through DHL took me several attempts for 4 days before I had to arrange collection.

The laptop was returned repaired in little more than a week and my son was happy to get it back. The Councils note that we said that the power adapter and the BIOS/FW update have been replaced.

Everything was working fine until this week when the AC adpater failed once again and the battery is not being charged. Yet once, we went through all the controls, as mentioned in the resolution of the problems, but once again no joy. No light, no power, nothing.

So now we have a Satellite in its box that my son cannot be used, and it is only 7 months old.

Anyone knows if this is a common fault, or are we just not lucky to have had the same problem occur twice in 7 months?

(X-)

Hello

In my opinion, you just had a bad luck.
In your case it s boring a power adapter is dead for the second time, but those issues could still happen...

Just one example; I had a problem in my car and we fixed a week later, the same symptoms appeared the technician checked again and said that one of the parts that have been replaced last week is dead once again I thought; What a £ $%
However. The component has been replaced again and now everything is ok

+ Bad luck + belongs to life too you know

I wish you now + luck + with the new replacement

I just bought the above to use with my Satellite L40, does anyone know if the laptop wireless adapter supports WPs?

    Hello

I think you should check what card WLan using your Sat L40.
The point is that books of L40 can support different network cards like Intel, Atheros or Realtek Wlan card wireless.

Check Wlan card model and research Web sites for details of the hardware manufacturers.

  • Satellite L40 won't recognize charger

I have Toshiba Satellite L40 and my laptop does not recognize my charger unless I put pressure on the head of charger when connected to the laptop, and this doesn t always work.
I don't know if the charger is broken, so I ve bought a charger from eBay, but anything else could be the problem with it?

I read another former post with someone who has had a similar problem, someone answered the old post saying that it might be the connector of the charger to the laptop, and if yes, this is related to the motherboard?

Does anyone know if this is correct, or if it's something else? Any advice would be appreciated, because I really don't want to lose your laptop.

    Thank you!!

In my opinion you should not waste your time here and read what it can be. Contact the nearest authorized maintainer to check your laptop.
I read your ad three times but I still understand exactly what you mean exactly.

Must you press AC adapter / CC or connector on the laptop?
In any case, contact service and let him check your laptop. The warranty is still valid?

    Hello

I found the other thread you have created in the past:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/message.jspa?MessageID=162687

Looks like you had some problems with the AC adapter in the past
Don't know not if this issue could have something to do with the previous question, but the use of incompatible cards could affect on the motherboard also.

However, if you are sure that the adapter is 100% ok, then the problem could be related to ESF on the motherboard as you see, here in the forum, we can assume that I think that only a technician of the laptop could provide more details after checking the s portable

  • Satellite L40 (PSL48E) - is not restart after BIOS update

    Hello

My problem is that I have updated the BIOS and after that the machine does not restart. (Corrupt BIOS?)

After that the BIOS updated (Satellite L40 PSL48E), reboot the machine and with the F2 key, I open the BIOS setup.
I check the version of the BIOS (5.50) and complete the configuration of the BIOS. The machine must restart now...
Not at all, the machine does not restart. No screen only the powerled lights.

I can to fix it on my own as a BIOS reset?

    Thank you for the cooperation.

It's strange because after that the updated BIOS update you can go into the BIOS.

However, try to remove the battery and the AC adapter. Wait one hour and then put the battery back in and connect the AC adapter. Try again.

If it doesn't work it is something wrong with the hardware or BIOS and must be checked by a technician for laptop.

  • Satellite L40 - 14N boot question without power cord

Had this problem for a while, any ideas please?

My Satellite L40 - 14N sometimes won't start when the power cord is not connected. It starts ok but when I get to the Windows screen drops colored that keep moving from left to right and the machine will not get one more no matter how much time is left.

This never seems to happen when the power cord is connected and is turned on, it starts very well.

    Hi starmonkey,

What power lead do you mean exactly? Do you mean the AC/DC adapter?

To be honest, I also don t know why this happens, but you use pre-installed OS from Toshiba?
You have installed a different display driver?

Maybe you should try to reinstall Windows in worst case it s a bad material work :(

  • Satellite L40 - 14 d: can't update the BIOS

    Hello

    I have laptop Satellite L40 - 14 d.
Two months ago, I Flash my BIOS to version 5.40 successfully. But now, if I run updatebios.bat (5.50), the system will reboot, but after 1 second laptop each stop. We did update the BIOS. I tried many version of BIOS for my laptop, but without success.

    I have Windows XP installed.
PS: sorry for my bad English, I'm from the Czech Republic.
    Thanks for any response.

    Hello

    First of all I ve an interesting question;
Why do you want to update the BIOS? Various problems with the laptop?
Usually if the laptop run without problem then a BIOS update is not necessary

However, I downloaded the BIOS and first firs winflash.exe file package, I noticed!

First you must uncompress the BIOS correctly.
Then prepare the laptop for the update (AC adapter connected, don t run 3rd party applications and disconnect all external devices).
Finally, you must run the winflash.exe to start the update of the BIOS and NOT the .bat file!

    Good bye

  • Satellite L40 - 18Z - how to turn on wireless?

    I have Satellite L40 - 18Z running Windows Vista Service Pack 2.

I've had a few cases where the wireless seems to have failed. On this instance, the LED at the front does not shine despite the switch is either off or on position. I checked the network card settings and it is activated. I have disabled/enabled the adapter, but without success. I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver - with no success. I checked for the latest drivers, but they are already installed.

I also deleted and reinstalled the adjacent wireless card to memory, there still without success. The network and sharing Center diagnosis indicates only that the without wire must pass away - but I am unable to do so.

Any advice would be welcome. Thank you.

    Hello

The WIFI connection can be activated in different ways: with the hardware switch you have ever tried and key combination FN + F8.
So have you activated the wireless network card by pressing FN + F8?

From my own experience, I can say that the WLAN led is only if you use this key combination too.
    Check this box!

In addition, you wrote on reinstall drivers WLAN you have installed you exactly? The most recent and pre-tested WLAN drivers, you can find the Toshiba site.

Last but not least, I also updated the BIOS, if nothing else works.

    Hello!

Have you checked if the hardware switch wireless on the front of the laptop is on?

    You have yellow exclamation points?
    The wireless adapter is recognized?

  • Satellite L40 is dead - will not start

    Hello

I hope someone can help me. My laptop just died!
It's a Toshiba Satellite L40 machine. It exploded suddenly and when I tried to put it back on in the morning nothing!

I tried without battery, with battery. I checked originally charge with the multimeter adapter and works very well. All I get is a clear green battery on the laptop itself when it is connected to the power supply with battery in. I have checked the motherboard no sign of discoloration or loose connections.

I thought it might be the battery that's dead. The laptop needs to use the battery in the circuit? I would like to know if anyone has had this problem until I pass out on a new battery.

I hope there, can someone help me please!

    Thank you

    Jamjul

Laptop didn't need dough as part of the electric circuit and you can use it with AC power only. If you cannot start your laptop with power running without battery, I fear that there is a serious hardware problem. Probably with electronic power supply.

This hardware malfunction is quite complicated and it should be repaired by authorized personnel only. Then contact the closest service as soon as possible and ask for help.

    Greetings to you all

Also on my side i have the power to change, and the back side of the Commission, have nothe pass as the power switch, if a press led ligh e stops, I'm talking about, I have everything ready dissamble boad ok, on my hand, I found this switches... what he for?

And some one take the battery CMOS, in frist place I guess is not a problem, only the Don t of the bios, save the changes I did, plase can one help everything, everything...

Find the testicles or, thank you!

I can tell you with certainty what s wrong with your laptop, but I guess that its a serious problem of motherboard.
Perhaps the electronic power supply on the motherboard is affected.

Fact is that this isn't the battery problem. Why? Because the laptop should work without the battery, but comes to connect to the network.

You said that the adapter is OK. Well, it means that the battery and AC adapter isn't the troublemaker you said that memory was also tested.
So this isn't memory problem and, therefore, I think, it could be the related problem of motherboard.

  • Satellite L40-18 x - charge limited battery

    Dear all

I have a Satellite L40-18 x laptop computer that charge no more than 6%, I replaced the battery and checked with another adapter also but its charge even up to 6% only.

I tried to download the BIOS update from toshiba Web site but not available file.
Can someone help me please on this issue.

    Thank you

    Concerning
    Shine

    Hello

The battery can be charged / recharge up to 500 times, and then the battery must be replaced. Satellite L40 is former model of laptop, so I could imagine that the battery is end of life. In this case the update of the BIOS will not help you.

In my opinion, you must order a new battery from an authorized service provider to ensure you get a Toshiba original spare part. Guys can order these original parts.
Do you know how to contact the guys?
