Satellite L500 randomly turns off

I bought my L500 in February 2010. Since then it has turned itself off randomly. He can go for days without doing it or just a few hours/minutes. The motherboard has been changed, but the problem persists.
Any thoughts?

Is this a known issue?

Hello

I would say it could be a RAM or overheating problem.
A higher temperature can cause this. The sensor would be closed the laptop automatically to avoid equipment damage

But if the motherboard was already replaced, so I recommend asking to the technician for control, Council, etc. seems the laptop is under warranty

    Hello

I have a Satellite L500-1GL (comes with Win 32-bit =) and since I installed the latest updates I can not disable the wireless function. When I use the shortcut key to activate or disable the indicator led is turning on and off, but the wireless feature is always turned on and even the icon which shows the network connection, itself changes without doing something with it.

A few times it shows Red Cross (as she has no connection), but says: connected. When I use wireless connecton always displays the cable connection icon. most of the time, when he should have been showing the strength of the signal.

This is reaally annoing. Please help me solve this problem.

  • Satellite P300 - randomly turns off the power when connected to the external monitor

    Hello

    I have a Satellite P300, Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 2.53 GHz, 4 GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 512 MB, running Windows 7 ultimate x 64.

Recently, I bought an AOC v22 led screen and connect my conputer via HDMI. Everything works fine, but sometimes my computer off just randomly. I might have something to do with my computer overheating, so I clean the fan, but this was not good.

I think it has something to do with the LED screen because my computer was never off his own.

    Hello

So this also happens if you n t connect laptop to external display? So, you can determine what is causing this problem.

If the computer laptop doesn t turn off without external monitor, you should try to update the BIOS and the display driver. Two updates that you can find on the Toshiba site:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported Downloads & => Download drivers

You close the lid if you have connected the external monitor?
What operating system do you use?

In addition, it would be interesting to know how you clean the laptop. That's why I use the jet of compressed air that can blow the dust from the cooling fans and you don't have to disassemble the laptop.

  • Satellite P10 randomly turns off

    Hello

I had my laptop since new for about 1 and a half years now, and only about 2 months, my laptop keeps turning off itself without warning or anything? I really doubt that it's a virus I have norton and also have ad-aware program running all the time.
I think it may be the laptop overheating? or the material is damaged?

Can someone tell me what I must do to overcome the problem please?

    Thanks Dan

    Hi Daniel,.

Random power thresholds are always a sign of overheating. All other problems occur a controlled stop or restart.

It is likely that your laptop is an accumulation of dust and fluff partially block the heatsink from the CPU. You can try to remove it with an inner pipe of the vacumm cleaner pointed at the gates of suction air under your laptop. Do not try to remove it through the rear exit gates because that will make the problem worse.

If this does not work, then you will need to remove the radiator to clean, but I hope this won't be necessary.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite P200 randomly turns off by itself

Do not know what is happening, every now and then it shuts it self without reason.

I used recovery disks several times and it keeps doing. Very frustrating. Any help would be appreciated!

I don't think that receives it to portable hot.
That s a normal reason if a laptop has problems with the cooling part, and then gets it CPU hot and stop itself.

In your case I would clean the laptop. You can use the jet of compressed air, it could blow the dust from the ventilation of cooling.

  • Satellite A210 randomly turns off

Sorry if this has been covered before.

My A210 works perfectly under normal conditions of use, I use it for 2 games only. World of Warcraft and sims.

When I play either, after 5 to 10 minutes of play, the laptop lights out, as if Id held down the power button (not stop it).

I reboot the machine, and it lights up again very well (not hanging as it does if its too hot). Then it will work very well for so long.

    Any thoughts?

    Hello

It's really hard to say what causes these cut downs if it happens only running these two games then I guess it could be a software problem
You can try to run tests, for example, you might check if this problem would happen after new installation the operating system recovery disc would this work

Also, you should check if the cooling modules are not clogged with dust and debris
You said check you t n this then maybe you should clean the fans to find out if not an overheating problem

  • Satellite A200-1FL randomly turns off

    Hello

I have the problem that after I moved from the Spain to the Thailand now my Toshiba Satellite A200-1FL randomly turns off.
This only seems to happen when it is connected with AC - with battery I have it is not happened again although I can't rule out it.

After some time of work (sometimes only 10 minutes, sometimes up to 2 hours) the laptop just shuts off-as if I would unplug the unit without the battery inserted. It is certainly not an overheating problem because the CPU is at 55º c most of the time (a year before the cpu fan was dirty and he has sometimes increased to 90º - but which caused no stops).

I don't know about electricity here in Thailand - but it seems 220V and they do not use the Earth (at least at the point where I am).
I use the original Toshiba AC adapter.

What could be the problem here - is there any solution or the solution to this problem?

    Thanks for any help,
    vitaminx

    Hey,.

As stone I n not know electricity of the Spain and Thailand, but if you have only this problem with the AC adapter / CC, there are a few differences between the Spain and the Thailand.

In your case, I will ask the local authorized maintainer in Thailand. For example just give them a call and ask a technician for help. I'm pretty sure, they can give you an answer if you need a new power supply or another outlet.

    Good luck! :)

    HI Fanny,.

Any graphic activity will tend to make your laptop run more hot and therefore sufficient cooling.

Make sure that your airway through the CPU radiator is not clogged with dust and debris (a lot of discussions in this forum about this) and also ensure that there is sufficient air under your laptop knife get in the fan air vents.

  • Portege M400 randomly turn off and restart

    Hello
I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what's wrong with my laptop? Two days ago began to randomly turn off and restart. I checked the following:
-Execution control online Panda Security virus etc - all ok.
-Check the system of newspapers but all it records is an error "windows has stopped unexpectedly".
-Suspect an overheating problem I took it to pieces, clean all the dust from the fan and the heat exchanger. Also cleaned up all the old thermal paste off the CPU and replaced with new ones. It works now much cooler but always stops at random.
-Run a Suse Linux Live DVD to check, it certainly isn't a problem with the OS and it stops again.

I'm guessing that something is short circuit on the motherboard because it will run ok if it is on a flat surface and not moved and I do not press too hard while typing etc. However, it is a bit hit and Miss. If someone has had this problem before and there at - it something else I could try? Also any ideas on is how a new motherboard? I expect probably expensive :( If there is any kind of fix I can do myself? I'm pretty technically minded and do not have a problem with taking it bit do not know much about electronics, engines are more my thing :D

    TIA, Firedrake

PS The laptop model number is PPM40E running Vista Business.

    Hello!

I m not an expert in laptop but in my opinion, it sounds like a hardware malfunction. The reason could be a faulty motherboard or something else.
I mean you already tried Linux bootable disk, so I think that the problem is not bound by the OS.

I put t know how much a new card mother cost and if it s difficult to Exchange or not, but you should contact the nearest ASP that you can find on the Toshiba site. The laptop technicians can check your laptop and order a new card of mother.

    Hello

you are somewhat familiar with computers? If not, I suggest you bring your machine to a local service partner (http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_gaspLocator.jsp?subs=tais)
If Yes, then firstly make a few hardwaretests. You can make them with tools like "Memtest86" for memory or "Prime95" for CPU and RAM.
This software is on a windows live cd for computer-maintenance as the UBCD4Win (Ultimate Boot CD for Windows) which contains a lot of useful tools and diagnostic programs.
    Here´s a link:
    www.UBCD4Win.com

    Other means can be:
Clean the CPU fan, try to remove the RAM (maybe), maybe the power adapter is defective or maybe the battery.
It s a little more difficult to find these things, but often it s really good to use this live-cd-system and check the system.

So, try it (or not :)) and give some information about what happened, maybe to give more detailed information about the behavior of the machine.)

    Welcome them

  • My Satellite L555-L11 turns off suddenly very

    Hello
My satellite L555 L11 turns off very suddenly. It seems that it s because of the heat, as when it arrives, I put my hand under the laptop and feel a too high temperature.
    my laptop is 5 years
    What should I do?
    thx for you answer

I think your laptop is quite full of dust and I can imagine that cooling rack is blocked so that your laptop is unable to catch his breath.

Believe me, that cleaning can help. Best thing you can do is professional cleaning. In this case the laptop must be disassembled. Otherwise, you can buy compressed air and try to clean it.

  • Satellite A30-414 turn off randomly

Hi, I'm new here. I own this Satellite A30-414. It works well, but it turns off randomly. I explain.

I might use it for non-stop days, it works well, but sometimes it empties and turns off. Then it always turns on the second attempt. I mean, after the stop, I turn it on, I see the MESSAGE, then it turns off again. The second time I turn it on it goes OK and starts Windows XP Pro SP3. There is no particular action, I do it turns off, it can happen any application at any time. As I said, it can stay for days, connected to the internet via wifi or lan, download P2P stuff, no problem not turn off.

I thought it was the temperature because it's warm enough, so I run it on a laptop computer have lower airflow, not at all, it turns off randomly anyway. Maybe I'm thniking more heating unsoldered some brazing under BGA chips, so it might need a redistribution of some chips, maybe the graphics chip

    Can you help me please?

    Thanx
    Satiropan

    Hi satiropan,

    > I thought it was the temperature because it's warm enough, so I run it on a laptop computer have lower airflow, not at all, it turns off randomly anyway.
Such an external Notebook Cooler will not help you solve this problem. The internal cooling fan is designed and tested for this laptop and everything will work perfectly even on high usage. External cooling is not necessary.

It's old enough laptop model, so I imagine that a lot of dust blocking the cooling fan. Therefore, clean it with a jet of compressed air to blow the dust from the cooling fans. The exact procedure is described here:
[How to clean a Toshiba laptop cooling system? | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=40]

I hope that it helps :)

  • Satellite Pro A30 is randomly turn off

    Hello

I have a Satellite Pro A30 and from time to time it just turn off. It happens to any application that I use. It will then restart and on my desk, I will get the message that my Active Desktop was stopped unexpectedly and asks if I would like to turn it back on. I noticed that it does appear that this operation when the power supply is connected.

I can't be sure if it happened only when he has worked outside the network, but I'm starting to think it is. The charger seems to work fine though as it loads fine and power mode changes when it is plugged.

Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated,

    Thanks in advance,

    Babin

Satellite Pro A30 is quite old and probably you have not cleaned up until now. If the unit tips suddenly OFF, independent, running application it may be due to overheating.

It is possible the unit turns off often when it is connected to the power running, because in this case, the standard profile in power management is full power. Power supply battery, CPU activity will solve automatically on the lower level and maybe you can do a little bit more.

In any case, I recommend you to clean the unit and remove the dust. You can try to do this alone, but I recommend doing it on the professional way but you can make a decision how to proceed.

  • Satellite M40X-230 turns off randomly

    Hello

My satellite m40x-230 is about 2 years old. Recently, power has been cut out completely Mid-use - for example I watch a movie and suddenly everything power to cancel - it is connected through the ESA and the battery is connected when this happens. If I unplug the AC and the battery and wait a while, then ac and battery back, I can to come back on and it works very well for a while.

Can anyone suggest what the problem please?

    Thanks in advance.

Not easy to say with certainty what the problem may be but let us start with an innocuous explanation: I think that this happens due to overheating. Obviously the material temperature has reached the critical level and the laptop turns off simply without any warning.

It is because of the material. Because of this, the first step, you can do is to clean your laptop. I guess that after two years, there is a lot of dust on the inside and the air flow is blocked.
