Satellite M60-146: keyboard failure

I bought a laptop from toshiba m60 and I'm very happy with it, except with the keyboard which seems to be horrible.
I sent the laptop using Toshiba and they said they would replace the keyboard for a new.
I will write to the time where I get the laptop.
Is anyone from Toshiba can tell what is really happening with these keyboards?

Hi Tomas

Unfortunately, it is not easy to say why this problem occurs with the keyboard.
Sometimes one loses the keyboard connection cable could be responsible for a strange keyboard events. Sometimes a BIOS update can also solve a keyboard problems.
I'm sure that service partner will solve the problem of keyboard.

  • Satellite M60 - controller keyboard may be defective

Hey all, first of all I apologize for my bad English.

I have a Satellite M60-149, and since 2 days no longer start.
It stops to load in the Bios Phoenix with 'Please wait' screen the fast flashing of the status bar.

So I think that the problem is the bios error. But if I hold down Fn + ESC when I turn on, the Bios boot, then windows also.
In windows, the mouse is OK, but keybord does not work.

I assume that the problem is as a broken hold down the key. So I physically removed the keyboard and I try with a keyboard external usb.
Nothing doesn't change, "Please wait" still on the screen of the bios or windows start pressing Fn + Esc to power.

In my view, keyboard controller is damaged. But I wan't to pay 300 euros for the new motherboard.
    Anyone have other tests/solutions?

    Hi Gianluca_1,

I m not a technician for computer laptop, but even the keyboard is removed and you get the same problem it seems that the keyboard itself isn't affected but he s strange that it starts when you press FN + ESC

I think that in this case you need an answer to an authorized service because they can give you an official statement so I recommend contacting the guys and ask for help.

An alternative, try to load the default settings in the BIOS and try a BIOS update.

  • Satellite L350D-PSLE4E - keyboard failure

    Hello

Keyboard of my laptop Satellite L350D-PSLE4E has recently stopped working properly (a few weeks after that 12 months extended warranty!). The keys are not totally insensitive, occasionally press key is recognized as such to the screen, but very much when there is zero critical functions.

Also the mouse pad has a failure, the movement of mouse pad is fine, but when you hover over an icon and press the key to access the icon or tap twice nothing happens. I restore access to tap on the mouse pad at some point, but he still lost.

Another thing I noticed, when I accessed to the internet as soon as the prompt is displayed, the number '6' appears time and again in the sweet spot. This seems to happen as it seems on every new page with a command prompt type top.

Another thing I noticed is that the sound is destorted too.

I ran search viruses without any result, checked the drivers are running and up to date so that I have the latest version of the BIOS on my system.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Related question sounds more like keyboard as a software failure. To my eyes, the keyboard material must be checked but I think you need to replace it.

    > Also the mouse pad has a failure, the movement of mouse pad is fine, but when you hover over an icon and press the key to access the icon or tap twice nothing happens. I restore access to tap on the mouse pad at some point, but he still lost

You can use double click of the buttons on the touchpad instead strike the surface of the touchpad?
What happens if you set the tab double again in Control Panel-> mouse-> device settings?
Check if updating driver of the touchpad or new facility could help you.

But overall, I would recommend to recover the laptop and test once more.
In many cases damaged BONES can cause many problems then it of certainly worth a try

  • Satellite A300 - partial keyboard failure

I have a very unusual problem. some keys on my keyb have stopped working.
    from top to bottom, these:
    [0] [']
    [p] [e]
    [o]
    [-]
    [space]

my laptop is a Satellite A300
    the bios is updated.

Is it possible that this is not a hardware problem?

    Thanks for the help.

I think that its hardware problem.
To confirm this, connect an external USB keyboard and test functionality.
If it's working properly, your internal keyboard is the troublemaker.

  • M60-164: keyboard failure?

I've only had the M60-164 yesterday, but the keyboard is incredibly unresponsive. When you type, missing letters, ones that I definitely struck. Its been driving me up the wall typing passwords in 3 or 4 times because it removes a different letter each time. I have been typing with one finger, hitting the keys hard enough yet he still fell letters.

Is this a physical problem with the material or is it possibly a driver issue? I really want to have to resume already.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Steve,.

There are two possibilities here: -.

    1. your keyboard is faulty in this case, you must return the laptop for repair or replacement.

    or

    2. your operating system has an ongoing background activity that is depleting your CPU availability insofar as the keyboard driver is being starced of sufficient resources.

Given that you got just the laptop I think that it would be better to return it under warranty rather than trying to diagnose the problem, although yuou may want to check in Manager tasks to see if there is any abnormal in activity.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite Pro C850 keyboard does not work properly and opens several programs

My satellite pro C850 1HE keyboard intermittently stops working correctly, and begins to open programs, for example, by pressing F will open the file search, C open computer this kind of thing

is there a permanent solution to this problem?

This is not something to do with installed programs is not something to do with the browser settings.
restarting the computer works in a short time, but that is a long time, it's really annoying because I use this for work and study!

    > is there a permanent solution to this problem?

The question is what causes this problem? Is it related hardware or software related issue?

Why n t connect a USB keyboard just to check if the same would happen?

In case the USB keyboard would work fine, I guess that the internal keyboard failures and the solution would be a simple replacement of the defective part.

  • Upgrade memory on Satellite M60

    Hello
I recently installed Vista Ultimate on my computer Satellite M60 laptop, it is activated and updated, but I think it is out of memory. I have two 512 memory banks and bought two chips of memory of 1 GB crucial to install instead of 512 banks.
It is, I can find a bank under a cover on the bottom of the laptop, but no others, abouts where is it not located and how do I enter?
I did a similar upgrade on an older model and have no problem with the work on the machine, but in this case they were both below and easily accessible.

    Hope you can help.

    Russell.

    Hi Russell

If the two slots of memory are not placed under the memory cover (lower side), one of them is usually placed under the keyboard. To access it, you must remove the plastic placed on the keyboard, and after that the keyboard itself.

  • Satellite M60-132 - USB stops working until you restart

    My problem looks like this:

All USB ports die after a few minutes (time may vary, but is shortened recently) after the start. They give no error - the USB mouse stops responding, the USB drive gives stops giving "delayed write failure" or sth like that. They are all visible and OK in device (Windows XP) Manager, no problem not being reported here. They have just stop working. I tried to reinstall Windows. It is not dependent on the OS actually. For example, I can boot from a live CD of SuSe Linux and ports will also die after a few minutes - they do on any OS tested.

Now, I have discovered (GOOGLE usb ports stops working until the reboot) that several Satellite M60 users report this problem with their old cell phones. Exactly the same thing - ports die after a certain time of start and remain that way until you restart. In one case the user writes that he bought a cardbus PCMCIA USB controller and the problem continues - the ports of the controller when dying as well as embedded.

My idea is to try even when the PCMCIA - maybe it will work in my case (another chip etc - you have never know). And anothr one must try to connect a USB hub to the Firewire port available. There are USB to Firewire Converter cards - could work like that?

Anyone know any solution to my problem or have an opinion on my ideas? I am looking to buy a new laptop, which I can't really afford right now...

    Hello

To be honest I've ever read on these problems on the Satellite M60, but it can happen from time to time, because it of also a fairly old laptop.

My friend also uses a PCMCIA card that has USB ports on his old notebook. He is quite satisfied with this solution because it don t need to each time the USB ports. Just sometimes if he's copying files on USB.
These cards are cheap, you can get it for a few s Euro and you can buy this card where you want, for example Amazon.co.uk.

I never heard firewire to USB ports, which is new to me and I n t have experience with this.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite 3000-100: keyboard does not work

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite 3000 100 laptop. It worked without any problem. But suddenly the keyboard did not work! The other keys work always. What can I do?

    Thank you, homer108 (from Germany)

For me, it looks like a keyboard failure.
In this case, you need to replace the old keyboard with a new one.
The replacement is not very difficult. The keyboard is connected to the motherboard with the flat cable. To disconnect the cable from the motherboard, you'll have to open two small latches on the sides of s of connector and cable.

However, first you must order an ASP compatible keyboard which is responsible for your country. And if you have no experience with the replacement procedures, I recommend the portable computer technician, asking for help.

    The keyboard doesn t work.
I see the light, but no key worked. The same thing with the touchpad.
I can t go into Bios.

When I plug a keyboard and USB mouse in works fine.
    I am looking for a new Ebay. The best offers $ 24 + $ 6!

I see in the Windows, the keyboard and the touchpad with one!
I put t know what the problem is, but it's not a prob of Windows.
It doesn t work either in Bios.

    Thank you for the help

    Hello

It looks like a hardware problem.
If the warranty is valid, you can contact the ASP in your country for a verification of the material.

If the warranty is not valid, you can first check if the keyboard cable is properly connected to the motherboard.
If it s properly connected then a keyboard failure is possible and it would be wise to check if a replacement would help solve this problem.

Compatible parts can be ordered also from the ASP in your country.

  • Satellite M60 - 164 need Win 7 driver for Player DVD Super Multi TS - 632B

I have a portable satellite m60-164, I put windows 7 on it and windows does not recognize as a multi drive only a dvd - rw.
can someone help me find a readers who works on Windows 7?

    PLEASE

    Hello

I completely agree with Akuma. Windows 7 supports and include clean driver CD/DVD from Microsoft. If the optical CD/DVD drive should be automatically recognized by Win7.

You see the ODD in Device Manager?
If there is a yellow exclamation point, remove the ODD of Device Manager, and then restart the device after restarting again the laptop must find new device and should recognize this.

  • Satellite M60: cannot install the latest driver for my graphics card

Can not install the latest driver for my graphics card
    Satellite M60
GRAPHICS ATI MOBILITY RADEON X 700

    Hello

First of all I'm really putting t understand why you start two topics with the same theme. It is often better to have a subject with good content and interesting comments. Am I wrong? ;)

Anyway, in your case, it is interesting that Toshiba use adapted drivers because of the material. This means that this graphics card is not required to run at the maximum level. Material cooling in laptops is very problematic and high temperature can cause overheating or a material damage. All hardware components are placed on a small square. Graphics card produces a lot of heat and it is not so good for other material.

When you use graphic driver non-Toshiba card is forced to run faster. That's any use of support laptop manufacturers don t of third party drivers. The fact is that physical protection is a priority.

I didn t do all the experiments, but according to some reports on this forum, there is how to install the driver of non-Toshiba graphics card.

Please check this forum and you can find a lot of comments about this. An interesting topic is http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=18063&messageID=66186

  • To install Vista on Satellite M60

Is that what anyone has experienced hardware problems during the installation of Vista on the laptop above. I have already increased the RAM to 2 GB, which is the maximum.

I'm sitting looking at a copy of Vista and do not know to install on my laptop or home built PC, Help!

    Thank you

    Hello amber

If I remember well satellite M60 is not portable to Vista and there may be a bit more problematic with Vista support. I imagine that you will have problems because of incompatible BIOS version, but you can check your hardware using Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor. You can find it HERE

Please use it and see the hardware compatibility report.

Just for example: I managed to install Vista on Satellite M70. It is also portable to Vista but Vista works well.
