Satellite Pro L20 hangs on XP splash screen

I have a new laptop as described above.
I received it as part of an insurance claim.
But when I try to start it it hangs on the splash screen XP with the bar/indicator State etc..

I tried using the recovery of product, pressing f12 annoys me in the multiboot screen, with the options disk hard, cd/dvd, floppy etc. but my keyboard does not allow me to go upwards or downwards or press 2.

Is there something really wrong here, or am I a doughnut. Also sometimes it brings to the top of the black screen indicating "recovered from a fatal error" select startup mode. But won't let me choose the mode without failure or last known working only start them windows normally.

Any help greatly appreciated

Hello

Regarding the description of your problem, you are not able to boot into the Windows operating system. The laptop hangs on the XP screen and starts the operating system. Am I wrong?

Have you tried to access the BIOS?
The laptop must support a Phoenix BIOS, and so you should try to press F2 to access the BIOS. He tries to change the boot order and try recovery of notebooks OS since the Toshiba Recovery CD.

Try reinstalling the operating system. If it does not work, you should contact the ASP for the control of the laptop. As you say, it is a new laptop and everything should work fine.
The guarantee must cover all checks and replacements of equipment.

Good luck

Good bye

  • Satellite Pro L20: How resoulution on TV screen

    Hello.

I just bought a Toshiba 32 "screen flat tv and want out of my Pro L20 to it. I had wired-up and it works because it shows what is on the laptop, TV, however, my laptop is not a screen but my TV is.

This means that when I dipslay on the TV, the image is stretched, which makes the text and other things appear blurry. I can change the format of the 4:3 TV and it works fine, except that I get those black bars on the side of the screen.

Is there a way out of implementation so that the laptop in a screen resolution adapted for television?

The laptop graphics card is an ATI Radeon Xpress 200 M series.

Thanks a lot for your help.

I think it's the same situation with TV stations. If the broadcast station shows movies in 16:9 format it looks perfect, but if they use standard 4:3 TV stretch automatically picture.

I'm not familiar with MS L20, but if you can't find any setting under properties of ATI card I fear there is nothing to do.

  • Satellite Pro L20 - I need a new screen and I am unable to find a part number

    Hi all

My L20 Pro Satt needs a new screen and I am unable to find a screen with number of part corresponding to mine.

Can anyone provide me with the other part numbers that would fit mine.

    Thank you

I found only a display for a Satellite L25 Pro but I guess that the two devices are very similar and use the same part of the screen.
    The display part number is K000000620 and it s a 15 XGA 1024 x 768 display.
    http://www.screentekinc.com/Toshiba_Satellite_Pro_L25--15-inch--1024x768-XGA-laptop-LCD-screen.shtml

You also can order the compatible display. You can contact the partner of service allowed in your country to order this part.
But be aware that the display is one of the most expensive parts of laptop.

  • Satellite Pro L20 - recovery utility hangs and does not complete

    Hello.

I've been running my L20 Pro Satellite for two years now, quite happy. Unfortunately, in the last 3 months, he began to misbehave. The startup time stretched to 5-10 minutes by that I mean time spent in "black" screen between the initials XP boot logo and the bright blue splash screen Windows. Playing sound/media crackled and stuttered badly through the loudspeaker. So, being reasonable technical, I've read various articles forum tried MSCONFIG tweaks here and there, removed all viruses etc... Nothing helps.

I began to suspect a HARD drive problem. CHKDSK has not shown any errors. I finally resolved to back up my data and attempt a complete recovery. (Virgin!)

Unfortunately, this is going to plan. medium 90% up to the end of the NVA Toshiba Recovery Utility 1.0.1.0 I think, started making subtle beeps and stopped on the 'X:\03596002 '. File of the GHS. The Green HARD-drive activity light has renounced his reassuring twinkling. Nothing.

Any suggestions tips out there? I am currently in the State where he can not start (no NTLDR found).

  • Satellite Pro L20 - replacing the screen

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro L20 and it has a cracked screen.

Can I put any brand screen inside? Or should it be a special type?

It's a 15-inch screen, so as long as I don't have the same size, it should go all right in I guess.

    Any help would be good.

    Hello

I'm no technician but and I don't know if all the screens have a universal connector. So if possible try to visualize for laptop L20 to ensure the connector will be the right one.
On eBay you can find many parts for Toshiba laptop, so check it out. With a little luck, you can find cheap display there.

  • Satellite Pro L20-164 will not launch

Satellite Pro L20 - 164 running Windows XP. Get the initial window (press F2/F12) then just a white screen.
    Any help welcome.

    Hello

You mean that you cannot access the BIOS?
Usually by pressing F2 should lead you to the BIOS settings.
If this is not possible, then a problem of BIOS/motherboard might be reason for that

You are able to boot from the CD?
You can boot from CD by pressing C or F12. By pressing F12 should allow a start on the screen menu. Then you could choose ODD as a boot device.

  • Satellite Pro L20: Showing empty after waking up from hibernation

I've had my laptop Satellite Pro L20 a year now and it has been slowing recently, especially when starting after being in hibernation mode.

It is even now not return back. I had placed it in hibernation, and then when I tried to turn it on again, it hummed as if it was put into service, but the screen remains blank.

I don't think that he is in communication with the rest of the laptop. I tried to restart it several times but I still can't out of his inactive hibernation mode and the monitor simply unresponsive.

Any help would be appreciated kindly!

    Hello

    > I've had my laptop Satellite Pro L20 a year now and it has been slowing recently,.
Maybe you should clean the HARD drive and also use defragmentation application to optimize the data saved on the HARD drive.

Back to your problem: I don't know if this will help, but you can try to do the BIOS update or install the latest driver from Toshiba support page display.

  • Satellite Pro L20 - overheating of the power cable

    Hello

For several months, I had problems with the keys suddenly works intermittently. Although brushing under the keys with a toothbrush relieved the problem for awhile it obviously was not the main cause. Each time, so not attributable to each of the keys of damaged to different keys.

When unplugging the power cable from the metal part is very hot, and I worked on the problem of keys occurs only when the computer is running on a/c AND the battery is fully charged. In other words, no problem on the battery or recharging. The adapter is also hot, but guess that's 'normal '.

The power cable has been tested directly from another outlet and not ongoing execution of the usual belkin surge protector, external sources seem so plotted on. I tried to find another cable/adapter to test but living very rural location of doubt this will be possible or practical.

The fan seems to work OK, the air coming out of the side is very hot. It does not appear to be clogged with dust. Also, the area of the laptop above the fan heats up.

Sometimes the computer crashes on black or blue screen (on iplayer lately, maybe other progs too) but the noise continues. I turned off by pressing the button for 5 seconds, but he still works for a while. I guess from overheating. But not some of it is always on a/c-do not charge, it may be on a/c-charge as well.

Sometimes the computer seems confused if he is re-load, on a/c or battery. At least the icon switches and requires a session to unplug the device before doing things.

Other times it is the machine of Angel since last two years! It's a Satellite Pro L20, the adapter's clover LiteOn 65W, 19V 3. 42 a. part PA3396E-1ACA (what I see is no longer available).

Searched through but not found any similar problem, but hope someone can advise me what to do next!
    Thanks in advance

    Hello Robin

It doesn't sound good. According to the specifications of the laptop, you have the right AC adapter. In my opinion you should contact the partner of service authorized in your country. Make a call and I hope they can help you how to handle this issue.

It is also possible that they can send you new power adapter. Make a call and explain the situation. If you have need for addresses and phone numbers you can find under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > support & downloads > find an ASP.

    Good luck!

  • Satellite Pro L20 - Fuction key does not

    Hello

I have a satellite Pro L20 running xp pro. We use at the school, connected to a projector to display on the screen for children to see.

the problem is that we use the Fn + F5 key on the laptop to scroll the screen option (two screens or not) but nothing happens, it seems that it does not meet our request. and the projector read no source found. Some days she turns on automatically, but when it doesn't. We are stuck, I tried to look into the display properties, but nothing here to try n force both screens light up. Help

    Azab

    Hello

Also try switching to the external device settings Intel. You can find it under Advanced display settings. I also recommend you to reinstall the TOSHIBA utilities. I'm not 100% sure but it may be responsible for the function FN + F5.

Also check Toshiba HWSetup under the view tab. Activate LCD + analog RGB option.

  • Satellite Pro L20 charge query

Hi, have a Satellite Pro L20. LED on the front of the laptop shows full battery (LED is green), "feed icon" on the screen shows the battery with virtually no load (16%), unit said "Recharge" but "%" battery does not increase.
When I remove the charger, battery falls '&' as the battery discharges. All clever people out there with any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey,.

If you already tried different batteries, it appears to be a malfunction of the loading/control unit on the motherboard itself.

I think this case you can do anything and you need professional help of an authorized service provider. Guys can check your laptop and solve this problem.

  • Satellite Pro L20 - need keyboard driver

    Hello world

Just need help to find a keyboard driver Toshiba Satellite Pro L20, I re-installed windows as my hard drive crashed and as was a second hand laptop he didn t come with recovery disks.
I downloaded every other player wireless, screen, sound, touch pad batch but I really struggle to find a m keyboard driver.

My laptop at the moment alone will keyboard type with the weird key, others do not work at all I use a plug to the keyboard for the time being, not very mobile.
Any help would be appreciated most.

    Kind regards
    Dave

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read my problem.

Akuma is right. You should not install driver for keyboard functionality. Used keyboard driver Microsoft standard included in the operating system Windows XP Home/Vista edition.
So if some buttons do not work, there may be a problem with the keyboard itself and you need to replace.

  • Satellite Pro L20 starts white plus-ecran

When I turn on my Satellite Pro L20 headlights light up and I can hear the fan noise but no picture.
I haven't tried with external display, same no picture.
I removed the ram to test the motherboard no beep and always the same screen dark.

What is the motherboard or something else?

    Help, please

There is definitely a hardware problem.
But as you know it's not easy to make a diagnosis.

This looks like a motherboard or CPU problem maybe. The two parts can be damaged.

I think you don't have a lot of possibilities.
You can try to contact the ASP in your country and may ask for verification of the laptop.

    Best regards

  • Satellite Pro L20 would not publish.

I received a Satellite Pro L20 who had probably overheated (was running with contribution covered and turns off for good).

So far I had removed everything and mobo appears intact. I had allowed cmos and disconnected the battery, reinstall CPU (tested ot in a separate mobile - good) and I tried to start the internal/external screen with no effect. It starts well, fan turns and responds to the shortcut keys / deals with optical and hard drive but gives no video output. I can't test the ddr2 memory as the other laptop is ddr.

Is there a way to test the video output somehow? F5 (with connected external monitor) several attempts but don't know if he responded to it at all. It responds to the reset / wireless, powers down and changes corresponding s LED but gives without being eps either. And Board of Directors has no led indicator. Powering with F12 does nothing. And there is a clicking noise when you start (with headphones).

Any ideas would be very welcome.

P.S. The profanity? At least mark what you think, it's blasphemy - spend 10 minutes to make it messy and get what abbriviation consider you profanity...

You already have thougt that the motherboard could be defective? I mean the machine give some answers but it won´t come up anyway. It could be:

    -Defective RAM
    -overheaten CPU
-some resistance or capacitor on the map
-Perhaps that you have forgotten something or some metals inside the machine fold which causes some short circuit (there was already this case a few weeks ago here in the forum, the guy disassembled the machine again and discovered that some metal shielding of the base that was turn during reassembly of the laptop.) It caused a brief signs and come the didn t machine..)
-a faulty device (such as HDD, modem, keyboard, mouse, and any other PCB) which translates the non bootable.

Check the machine carefully (maybe it would be good to take it apart again), so if the machine after checking the won´t happen then you should give the machine to a toshiba technician. Maybe he knows better?

    See you soon

  • Windows XP hangs at the splash screen (logo). Dim screen when hooked.

I do have problems starting XP 2 on two different hard drives.  I'm more concerned at this time is described in the title.  I bought a new hard drive (Western Digital Caviar Blue WD3200AAKS 320) to back up the data on my old hard drive, due to the other XP startup problem and installed Windows XP Home edition, as well as my motherboard drivers, etc..  It starts very well, at first, but then started a curtain to the start screen (and the splash screen is very low in this case).  I tried to remove some additional applications provided with the motherboard, no luck.  I tried to reinstall XP several times, and who has not helped.  I tried to update my video driver, running chkdsk, running Windows Memory Diagnostic (which does no problem), cleaning the registry with Advanced System Care Pro, unplug all USB devices and network cable, etc.  He continues to hang at the splash screen (weakly).  When I try to start in safe mode, it hangs at "mup.sys.  So far, I'm able to get XP to start by repeated restart later...  I searched the web to find a solution for this and have found no definitive answer.  I just ordered another new hard drive and Windows 7.  I intend to dual boot with windows 7 the new HD and XP on the current disc (assuming that this problem can be solved!).

My other problem is on my old sister Hitachi 160 GB IDE hard drive.  A few months, our PC stop working.  After buying a new power supply (Corsair TX650w) and determine that he was not a power supply problem, I bought a new motherboard (GA-MA785GT-UD3H), (AMD Phenom II X 2 555 3.2 Ghz) CPU, RAM (CORSAIR XMS3 DHX 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) 240 - Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333), and some new fans (old system died due to heat issues).  Once I had it put in place and I tried to boot XP from my old drive, he just went in a "boot loop".  He gets to the XP splash screen, goes black and restarts, again and again.  I tried setting the installation of XP with XP CD 3 or 4 times, without success.  This question is not as big of a deal to me now, because I now have the new hard drive with the new number to start XP (intermittent).  My main goal with the old hard drive was to save all my data.  That is, life turns on if I can't start XP on this drive (the one with the boot loop).

    Thank you for your time!

The BIOS update has * seems * solved the problem!  I rebooted it 4 or 5 times, but also completely off the PC and it starts today.  Did not repeat the problem so far!
