Satellite Pro L40-15 a (PSL4BE) BIOS update procedure

Hi, since trying to update the BIOS from Windows using the package provided on the official page to download always translated by the + black screen problem + described [here | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=47887&tstart=0], which is the * correct * on how to update the BIOS on this laptop?

I am no newbie: with these laptops, this is the first and only 2 has no BIOS updates, more than 100 + modernization successful in my career!

Here, I sketch the history with the my two Satellite Pro L40 - 15A (PSL4BE).

Cell phone 1:
a. BIOS 1.60
b. upgrading to Windows * XP * to 5.50 _For Windows XP_
c. programme stop the PC from the start, with a progress remains empty bar!
d. first boot in the BIOS showing version 5.50 (!), but then: dead (black screen)
e. taken for an ASP.
f. after 15 minutes and for as little as 35 it has been resolved, and BIOS updated to 2.00
g. explanation of the ASP guy was it was my fault, because since the laptop is with Vista installed, I couldn't do a upgrade the BIOS of XP!
h. sold the laptop with BIOS 2.00

Laptop 2:
a. BIOS 1.60
b. upgrade of Windows * Vista * to 2,00 _For Windows Vista_
c. programme stop the PC from the start, with a progress remains empty bar!
d. but the laptop still and always boots with BIOS 1.60.
e. upgrade to Windows * XP * at 5.50 _For Windows XP_ (I know, I was really looking for troubles, uh?)
f. first boot in the BIOS showing version 5.50 (!), but then: dead (black screen) (as 1 laptop)
g. tried every combination of secret keys, CD, USB, floppy drive, but nothing could do the trick to force a BIOS loading, as the ASP was indeed able to do with my laptop 1!
h. read 'notuagain' contribution to the forum thread [here | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=47887&tstart=0], and it worked.
i. but now, the laptop still has BIOS 1.60

Any ideas out there?
Thank you

Hello

Here you can find the traditional versions of updated BIOS for this laptop model:
http://rapidshare.com/files/415039398/BIOS-2.0-psl4be-Vista.zip.html
http://rapidshare.com/files/415039409/BIOS-5.5-psl4be-XP.zip.html

So you can update the BIOS using a USB bootable or external USB FDD drive.

Recently I thought it would be better to download the latest drivers and upgrades for my Satellite pro L40 to keep up-to-date and partners the laptop that works smoothly. I couldn't have worse summer. Before I updated the new driver updates I thought it would be a good idea first update the Bios. So I downloaded the update of the Bios on the Toshiba site, unzipped the files and followed the online instructions for updating the BIOS. I double clicked on the BIOS file to run the update, the laptop says it was end the session, I waited and the Toshiba logo screen came. In the instructions, it says that I have to press F2 now and confirm that the date and time are correct. I should then press F9 to load all the default values and then press F10 to save and exit. At this point, the laptop must away to the loading screen, but... I got a black screen. IV turned off the computer and turn it back on, but still, I get a blank screen. Hello Durks

I'm really sorry to hear you I have this problem.
To be honest, it is not easy to discuss about this because a lot of people on this forum with a similar or same problem reacts quite aggressive if they don t hear exactly the thing they want to hear.

In any case, I just want to write my comment. Don t be worried about photos and other important data. You can remove the laptop HARD drive, put it in a small box of HDD SATA 2.5 and connect the HARD drive to the other PC / laptop as external device. You will have full access to all stored data. So you can do the backup.

    Update the BIOS.
What to say at this point?
I have checked the Toshiba download page and saw that the BIOS update is available for Windows XP Home edition and Vista pre-installed notebooks so I hope you ve chosen the right one. Anyway, it is not easy to fix screwed up in the BIOS. You hate me now, but I think you should contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. Call them, explain the situation and ask what you can do about it.

I hope you will fix this laptop soon.

    Good luck.

  • Satellite Pro L40 - after I start the update of the BIOS, nothing happens

I'm trying to update my BIOS version 2.00 - WIN for Satellite Pro L40 PSL4BE.
My OS is Vista 64 bit.

I downloaded the file and run the .exe but nothing happens.

I also tried to copy the files on a diskette and start with a floppy disk, however, I get an error message saying to remove the diskette in the drive on startup. Any help please?

First update the BIOS for Satellite Pro L40 is based on Windows it of possible to update in DOS mode.

Also, I checked the Web from Toshiba site and I can only find a BIOS for Windows XP and Windows Vista 32-bit.
It seems that the update of the BIOS is not supported for Vista 64-bit.

If you want to update, you need to change to 32 bit Vista or XP. Then you can update the BIOS.
Don t forget this version 2.00 - WIN is for Vista 32 bit and 5.50 - WIN XP.

  • Satellite Pro A200 - question on the BIOS update

I have a Satellite Pro A200 (PSAE7E) with Windows Vista and XP that have been installed recently.
In the driver of Toshiba page (BIOS update) says:

"This Bios is only compatible for portable computers with Windows Vista!"

    (1) should I update my BIOS (1.4) or it'll be a problem for my windows XP?

    (2) anyone has try?

    (3) is there documentation on the BIOS updates (bug fixes, etc.)?

    Hello

I will try to be very short with answers:
    1. If you use Windows XP Home edition on your laptop have BIOS update with the version 5.30
2 this version of BIOS is available for days and it is possible that many people already tried. By the way: until Toshiba out something that is tested and verified.
    3. Unfortunately there is documentation about bugs and patches, but the fact is that Toshiba has designed the 5.30 version to support the features of Windows XP Home edition on the models of laptops designed Vista

  • Satellite Pro L40: black screen but faint image in background

    Satellite Pro L40 - 17 H (PSL4BE-00T005EN)

    Hello

I would appreciate your help with the following problem:

SYMPTOMS: The screen is black, but I see that there is a faint image in background.
I get a good picture in the external monitor.

I suspect, _among others_, there may be a faulty * cover sensor / switch *, but I have been unable to locate him, although I have disassembled the unit.

If anyone knows, please let me have the exact * location * where I should look for the switch.
    Thank you

    > I think, among other things, that there may be a faulty lid switch/sensor

No, I do not think that its sensor problem.
I guess that the FL inverter is faulty.

The FL inverter controls the backlight of the LCD display module.
Therefore, this part should be checked and if necessary, it must be replaced.

  • Satellite Pro L40 - 17F: everything by playing the DVD player window flickers

I have a new Toshiba Satellite Pro L40 - 17F with all the updates of Windows Vista (Home) applied. This includes those optional (for example driver updates)

I have not really looked at it properly yet, but I wonder if this is a common problem...

  • Satellite Pro L40: Bios update not necessary - no settings for RAM in Bios 1.90

Hi, I just bought a Satellite Pro L40 laptop and im trying to figure out why the bios has no parameter memory.
If I look at the ram using a tool of information system (cpuz or aida320), it shows she doesn't move at the speed of 667 mhz but at 533 mhz.

As you can see from this screenshot the memory runs at the real speed is less than the maximum that the sticks have a rated power.

    http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/4580/cpuz1pj5.jpg

Its running at 266 mhz (533 mhz ddr) where it should be run at 333 mhz (667 mhz ddr).

I also noticed that with this laptop fan never seems to come, is it possible to mount the fan?
Whenever I have the laptop for more than 30 minutes, it becomes very hot.

    Hello

    > if I look at the ram using a tool of information system (cpuz or aida320) it shows that it does not run at the speed of 667 mhz but at 533 mhz.

    What is your FSB?
If the laptop was equipped with memory PC2-5300 modules then they could run at 667 MHz, but only if the FSB would supports 667 MHz! I think is supported by the FSB of 533 Mhz.
So I can't say it s nothing wrong!

    > I just bought a Satellite Pro L40 laptop and im trying to figure out why the bios has no parameter memory.
Why do you think a BIOS update would turn the memory settings in the BIOS?
Please don t mix of desktop computers laptops! Laptops cannot be overclocked.
BIOS of laptop computers is not the same thing as a desktop PC BIOS!

    > I also noticed that with this computer laptop fan never seems to come, is there a way to turn the fan to the top? Whenever I have the laptop for more than 30 minutes, it becomes very hot.
Have you noticed all automatically turn off downs or any other strange behaviors laptop as freezing OS for example?
If it is then that the laptop runs correctly and doesn't overheat.
Books to support thermal protection which would be closed the laptop automatically to avoid equipment damage

Then lean back man and enjoy your nice toy ;)

  • Update of the question on Satellite Pro L40 - 15A - old BIOS BIOS cannot recognize the EEPROM

    Hello

    I can't Flash my bios.
    I have a Satellite Pro L40 - 15A.

The Toshiba winflash tool provided with the bios file tells me as the "old BIOS cannot recognize EEPROM.

I was recommended to use AFUDOS on another forum, but telling me that the bios has a boot not block valid.

Flas for back FRIEND tells me that the flash rom is write-protected? There is no option in the bios to disable and I don't think that anyone would be stupid enough to put a hardware Bios protect jumper on a laptop.

    Help, please

    THX

    Dear Bruce

Can you please tell me what you want to do and explain us it please your steps to update the BIOS of your laptop Satellite Pro?

I did the update of BIOS more than 20 times in the last month and I really wonder what you mean with terms such as EEPROM or AFUDOS. What BIOS update version that you want to use? I assume as 5.10. Am I wrong?

  • Satellite Pro L40 does not start after changing the BIOS settings

There is no password on the bios... How would a BIOS reset to normal?

I put a windows disc now, I hear the disc spin but nothing on the screen

(I think that I have come to the right place on the forum)

    It s a Toshiba Satellite Pro L40 model psl4be.

    Thank you

    > There was no bios password... How would a BIOS reset to normal?

You can set the default BIOS ONLY inside the BIOS access BIOS by pressing F2 or at the beginning of the initialization of the order

But I doubt that this problem is related to the BIOS.
Maybe it s just a simple bad luck that this problem happened exactly after change something in the BIOS.

Try connecting an external monitor and check if you can see something on the 2nd screen.

  • Satellite Pro L670-18F - pilots missing after updating BIOS

I have a Satellite Pro L670-18F and I recently updated the BIOS to version 1.5, recommended by the site, but now my internet speed is VERY slow and I have some devices in the Device Manager without drivers related to the bios (from Googling) and so I realized that the bios has been a problem.

Does anyone know this laptop came with to downgrade the BIOS version? Also, if I reinstall windows will I receive a new bios version or will it would not affected?

    Hey,.

Did you download and install the correct version of the BIOS of your laptop? Satellite Pro L670-18F belongs to the series of PSK3FE AFAIK, so have you chosen BIOS for this series of model?

In addition I recommend you load the default settings in the BIOS. Just press F9 key if you are in the BIOS Setup.

If you reinstall Windows, the BIOS will not be affected. BIOS and Windows are different, you will always have the latest version of the even you change your operating system.

  • Satellite Pro L40 PSL4BE starts no - HDD + CPU fan is not

    Hello

    I own a Satellite Pro L40 - 17F (PSL4BE-00R005EN).
I've been running the system on the current for a while now.
I decided to remove the battery to avoid damage.
Last night, I accidentally pulled the addapter at the back of the laptop. Since then; the machine won't start.

I noticed that the HARD drive was not making the usual noises. Then I realized was not the CPU fan is spinning.
Nothing appears on the screen, not even the start menu.

The only things that do not seem to work are the DVD player & power light!
I had the back of the machine off; I didn't see any obvious reason for the problem.

I'm looking for a second opinion on what is happening with it, and if it can be fixed without having to buy a new motherboard.

    Thank you. Dan.

Hmm. possibly, there is nothing wrong with your motherboard.
Try this common workaround that has helped me in such cases.

Remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter. Leave the laptop for about 30 min and after this short break, put the battery in the laptop and connects to the AC adapter.

This short procedure helped me to sort a similar g and strange question.

I hope that you will succeed if you please post some results.
