Satellite Pro U400-130 - restarts after shutdown down

Hello

I bought a laptop Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-130. The operating system is Windows Vista 32 bit.

I have a problem when I try to quit the Menu Start-Shut Down laptop. The system will reboot after that. Then if I select closes without connecting to my account, it really stops.

Please, could you help me with this?

It's a little confusing because you said if I select shut down without logging in to my account, it really stops.
Say you stop without connection?

However, I think you make a mistake.
Make sure you have all the Service Packs and hotfixes installed for Vista.

Maybe the button closure is misconfigured. The default action is sleep. To verify this action. Open a command prompt and enter
Powercfg.cpl, 1
There you can change the action of power button in the start menu.

    Hello

Well, the fact is if the blue screen appears especially it of a serious hardware or software failure.

  • Satellite Pro U400-130 - Conexant and 'Stereo Mix' in question

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-130 (downgraded from Vista to XP) with the Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 "audio card" installed.

Although this seems to support HD audio, I can't find any option to use or activate the "Stereo Mix" option in the Windows console. I tried a few settings to registry and some different drivers, but so far, the option remained absent.

I know this forum and other comments on the net that Conexant audio cards do not support the stereo mix, but I was wondering if someone could confirm that this is certainly the case for SmartAudio 221?

Similarly, anyone know of another method to record the sound 'as heard' on the computer? So Far, the options appear to be a) buy an external sound card, or b) connect the plug headphone mini-jack on the mic with a cable jack.

After using a p3500 old Portege of 8 quite happy with this function (actually pretty basic), it is very disappointing to find that this card cannot support it.

    See you soon,.
    Select this option.

    > I can't find any option to use or activate the "Stereo Mix" option in the Windows mixer
    > I know this forum and other reviews on the net that the Conexant sound cards may not support stereo > Mix, but I was wondering if anyone could confirm this is certainly the case for SmartAudio 221?

I can confirm this because I have a laptop (NOT from Toshiba one) that was equipped with the Conexant audio chip and the other laptop (Toshiba Satellite a series has) that supports the Realtek audio chip.

The machine with Realtek audio chip contains stereo mix and the other non-Toshiba unit that supports the audio chip Conexant does not support the stereo mix

As far as I know the update of the driver won't help you because it looks like a hardware limitation of chip Conexant!

However, thanks for the info about the Virtual Audio Cable tool.
I think I'll try it next time

  • Satellite Pro U400-130 - hard drive Partition - help

    Hi all

    I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-130 mobile - cell PSU45E-005005EN

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo (T8400) 2.26 GHz, the front side Bus speed: 1066 MHz, level 2: 3 MB Cache
    3072 MB (1024 + 2048 MB) DDR2 RAM
    250 GB hard drive
    Microsoft Windows Vista Business Edition

What I've found, is that the hard drive is partitioned into two separate drives

    1. the drive C - 117 GB - hand player - all programs, user accounts and files of work / are saved on the C drive.
2 drive E - 113 GB - A folder titled HDDRecovery (size 4.42 GB) nothing elese is on the E drive.
    3. This only totals to 230 GB, then where is the other 20 GB?

I want to know/how is is:

    1. Why are we doing this way?
    2. What is the purpose of the file recovery Drive E and it does not require the space of 113 GB?

    3. If I increase the size of drive C to say 55GO and decrease the size of drive E?
    3.1 is it possible?
    3.2 what impact will?

    4. the drives C and E only total 230 GB so where is the other 20 GB?

    Can someone please help

    Thank you very much

    Vash01

    (1) the HARD disk is partitioned into 3 partitions and not 2! Go to the disk management utility and you will see that there is a hidden partition. This hidden partition is created by Vista. It contains the necessary backup files that are needed for the repair of the system, if something goes wrong with your operating system.

    (2) the second partition contains the record of recovery of HARD drive that allows you to retrieve the laptop without using recovery discs. But of course, you are able to create a recovery disk and it s highly recommended to create a recovery disk using the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator.

3.1 I think that this could be possible, but before that you'd change any partition size I recommend the creation of the recovery disk because there is a high risk that after changing the size of partitions you drive HARD recovery option does not work.

    3.2) see point 3.1

4.) I think the other hidden partition using this 20 GB. Also please note that 250GB are not really 250 GB 1 GB is not 1000MB but 1024MB.
This means that the 250 GB HARD drive is not 250 000 MB but 238 418 MB

  • Satellite Pro L300D-138 restarts on shutdown

    Hello

I recently bought a Satellite Pro L300D-138, and I also got one for my parents. Almost every time that I stopped it, it restarts automatically. I think it happens when there are updates that are installed, but I think it could happen even if it is not updated. I don't get messages that say, 'news updates, restart necessary.' or whatever it is. I thought also restarts of updates required as such, but that shut down the computer and then turn it on again tomorrow, or anything that would complement the updates. Maybe I'm wrong... ? Y at - it somewhere I want to wait for new update/restart applications?
It's not a big deal, really, it's just a bit of a pain in the @55 to return the laptop to close again a few minutes after turned it off, it... I am making sense? I feel I am repeating myself! :)

This happens also with the laptop I got for my parents, so I assume it's a Toshiba, or something new computer thing, I just want to know if I can make him stop or if I have to put aside 10 minutes to close the bottom!
    Cheers for any help!

Also make sure that if this happens only if there are no updates to update will be installed because it might be the reason for the restart.

  • Satellite Pro A200: How restart after hibernation

    (2) when and if I get a reboot, which key (s) should I hold down to get into the BIOS.

Thank you much for the help.

    > Despite the entered password correctly, it won't start windows.
    > Nor can I stop laptop holding down the power button to force the reboot

You have a Phoenix BIOS? If yes then you have to press the F2 key immediately after the laptop starts to access the BIOS. But you will not be able to access the BIOS, if the password is not right and cannot be verified.

The unknown BIOS password can be removed only by an ASP in your country. There is a special procedure that is known only to authorized Toshiba service technicians.
Therefore, follow the recommendation and contact guys!

PS: The laptop must stop when you press the power button for about 4-5 sec.
If not, unplug the AC and the battery to turn off the computer!

  • Satellite Pro U400-130 begin to operate automatically in internet

My Toshiba U400-130 appears to have a clean mind - if I go on a website, Ebay for example and start working through the sales process, with no outside assistance from me, the computer will return to the previous web page and maybe come back another web page to the original signature on the page. Frequently, by pressing the next button, I can get back to where I left off but not always - what can be the cause?

I don't think I have a virus that I run Zone Alarm and Force field and you will have to be Houdini to get into the system.
Please don't look on that as a challenge and every crook out to Christianity is now trying to access my machine!

    Hello

This strange s sound a little magic
It s good idea to use additional security tools and firewalls like Zone Alarm, but it is still a rest of risk that your system could be attacked by a virus, Trojan or similar malware

In your case, I would recommend to recover the laptop using the Toshiba recovery disc. This recovery disk will format the whole HARD disk and install the whole system again.
I think that the format of HARD drive is necessary and important to be 100% sure that the malware has been removed.

    Hello

This theme has been discussed here many times.
It s a general problem with Windows XP!
If you n t install the patches MS as KB888111, KB835221 and then you would not get the sound.

You must install these cites patched before install you the audio driver!

If the driver has been installed you must remove it first before the patches are installed.

  • Re: Satellite Pro U400-130 poor quality display on external monitor

    Hello

If I connect an external monitor to the display quality VGA port is quite poor. It looks like a 'grainy twinkle"(sorry hard to describe). I have tried several different monitors and made all the adjustments that I can find. If I increase the contrast to max is not visible, but still the screen is too bright. The internal TFT is perfect.

Have you tried to change the display settings on monitor itself (brightness)?

I have connected to my office two different external screens (19 and 22) to U400, and the image is OK. I really don't understand what makes you so unhappy.

  • Satellite Pro U400 starts and overheating problems

    Hello

6 weeks ago, I bought a Satellite Pro U400. Shortly after that I bought, I noticed that the computer overheating. After 1 hour of use, it becomes very hot in the touchpad area, as well in the base of the computer and on the touchpad itself. It is very annoying because I almost burn my fingers with the touch pad.

The problems began 10 days ago. I had been using the laptop for an hour when it suddenly turned off without notice. Power outage? I don't know Don t. I looked like a sytem of overheating protection. My previous laptop had the same problem. After a few minutes, I was able to turn it back on.

Then it happened again a few days ago, but it took me 5 minutes to turn on. Yesterday, it happened again, and after 45 minutes without response, I went to bed. In the morning, I was able to turn it on.

This also happens when wifi is disabled, it is not only a problem with the wifi card, overheating of the system.

Am I the only one having this problem? I will try to send it back to Toshiba for a replacement or a refund.

Is this normal in a really new machine?

    Thank you

First, the warming of the touchpad is normal for almost every laptop, due to construction. Under this, there are the HARD drive and it produces heat. With my last books, and it was not bad, too.
But really to get so hot?

Due to the protection against overheating, it is normal that you cannot turn on your laptop immediately.
But the wireless card is not the device in question, because it's a very small piece of hardware and produce little heat.

You said, you had this problem with your notebook previous too. Let me ask you, when you use your notebooks? What your table surface there or is there no matter what on that table cloth?

What I can tell you right now is, to check your locations of fantilation for all dust or maybe you have objects near it so that hot air can not cool.

  • Satellite Pro U400 - 15 p hangs after enabling the Realtek RTL8187B WLan card

    Hello

I recently bought the Toshiba Satellite Pro u400 - 15 p. This notebook is originally without any operating system included. I installed Windows XP Home SP3 on it and downloaded all the drivers from the Web from Toshiba website. Everything works well except the WiFi - RTL8187B.

Driver has been installed correctly, when I turn the WLAN on everything is always OK, but when I connect to a network wireless Windows XP hangs after some time - without notice or BSOD - and the only thing I can do is to restart the PC holding down the button for 5 seconds.

    I have:
    -installed the latest BIOS (v3.70),
-installed the last version of drivers available (v6.1150.1112.2008)
-tried how it works on Vista Home Basic - it does not either, but on Vista only connection must be reset.

I searched on the web (perhaps not all), including this forum, but I was unable to find a solution.
Now I am seriously considering warranty claim, please help me to avoid that it ;)

    Hello

    It's really strange.
Are you sure that this happens because of the WLan card activated 100%?
I mean there could be another reason for this gel

I'm U400 too and I m running Win XP and Vista without problem!
At that time, I m using WiFi and everything works ok

I think it s not a Wlan related question, but there must be another reason why this laptop locks maybe a problem of RAM or something like that.

  • Satellite Pro U400 - network connection lost after suspend

I have a Toshiba Dynadock. My network is connect directly in dynadock.

When suspend my Satellite Pro U400 and after reboot to continue working I lost my network connection. Then I shut down my computer and disconnect/connect Dynadock I can continue working.

    What is the problem?
    Dynadock software version is 2.0

    Hello

I see that you have switched from Vista to XP.

First of all I recommend you update the BIOS.
As I m not wrong on the European driver Toshiba page, you should find a newer version of the BIOS.

You will need to upgrade Win XP to the last State.
The XP must be up-to-date and all service packs, hotfixes and patches MS must be installed in your laptop.

Access the Device Manager, and then score in each USB hub root, you must disable the option called allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
You can find this option in the properties-> tab power management
