Satellite Pro U400 - can I roll back to Vista?

Hello

I have Toshiba asatellite pro U400-13I, I got it from a friend and he formatted the hard drive and created three partitions, now I've lost the windows vista which is on the 2nd HD, I need to recover my system to factory settings (Windows Vista), I have the restore CD that comes with it, but it gets to windows xp.

Can I go back to windows vista original?

Thanks in advance

Hello

If you don t have the Vista Toshiba recovery disc then you have three options;
-HARD drive recovery option
-purchase Toshiba Recovery Disk
-purchase of Microsoft Vista disc

I don't know if recovery of HARD drive option is still available on your system if Win XP was installed by Mr. but it s worth a try.
Press F8 after turning on laptop. Usually the menu should appear and you should choose to fix my computer. Then new window should appear where you can choose the option called Toshiba Recovery.
But if that does not work then you have to buy disks; Toshiba recovery or MS Vista.

Welcome them

  • Satellite Pro U400 - can I boot from a USB?

I am wanting to partition the disk and I don't have a blank CD at hand...

Surprised to discover, there is no option the BIOS to boot from devices USB 2.40.

Please can someone confirm for me that this is not possible?

    Thank you.

    L.

Yes, you can boot from USB FDD, primary HARD disk, optical device and network (LAN)
Unfortunately, the USB is not supported ;(

But if you want to create a new partition on the HARD drive you don't need to boot from a USB n.
Are you using the Vista on your Satellite Pro U400?

If so, you can use the Vista Disk Manager to create a new partition.
To reduce the first partition first and then you can create a new partition using a new space on the HARD drive.

  • If I downgraded from Vista to XP Pro business, can I go back to Vista Business later?

I bought 11 of these machines in early 2008.  They are machines HP DC5800 comes with Vista business with the ability to go back to XP Pro.  I was not sure about Vista yet again on my work network so I spent in them.  Now that has been support for XP until 2014 and Vista has improved with the SP1, I expect these machines to upgrade to Vista now that I have Windows Vista Business OEM product keys.

Am I allowed to upgrade to Vista with OEM product key I have?

You should have a product key for Windows Vista. Yes, you can use Windows VIsta Business because it is what came with the machine and is probably on the CoA sticker on the unit itself.  You have also bought the right to downgrade to Windows XP.  You can use an operating system on these machines and switch back if necessary.  What I can't say is whteher or not will require a clean install, because it is OEM software.  (Vista to XP - clean install only... OEM XP to Vista OEM, I don't remember.)

But I think I should comment on a few things...

You mentioned Windows Vista SP1? (Released 2008-03-18).  Given that Windows Vista SP2 is now (aired on 25/05/2009), you are not just back - you are far behind.  Probably more than a hundred patches AFTER SP2 as well.

Personally - for a company (or personal) - I switch to Vista and get Windows 7.  However, this would cost money.  Given that you are still an 11 year old operating system now and considering just the upgrade to an operating system almost 6 years now, on the edge of another new OS coming out in a few months - put two OSes still behind the curve...  This probably isn't something you / your company is ready to do.  Maybe because the software that you have does not work on a modern operating system?

-These PCs you have, they have Celeron processors.  You're probably better from a performance perspective - without spending money - not even their upgrade to Windows Vista.  Maybe if you have 3 + GB of memory in each...?

You can watch the lifecycle for Vista Business too:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/lifecycle/search/default.aspx?sort=PN&Alpha=Vista+Business&filter=FilterNO

    and

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/products/lifecycle

You are already in the cycle of extended support for Windows Vista, just as you are for Windows XP.

April 8, 2014 is the end of extended support (no more patches for Windows XP) and April 11, 2017 for Windows Vista.  Yes - 3 years - but these machines (hardware) have been at the end of life for a while. especially if they have processors celeron as the web page for the given model.

  • Satellite Pro U400 - How can I get the native screen resolution for external monitor?

I have a samsung syncmaster external screen connected to a Satellite Pro U400.

The resolution of the screen goes up to 1280 etc. but the minimum samsung is 1440 x 920 (ish I forgot).
How can I get the samsung to display full screen expanded to save my eyes of the realativively small screen internal?

    Hello!

Have you tried to update the display on your laptop driver? Check the Toshiba site for an update:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported Downloads & => Download drivers

In addition, it would be interesting to know if you are running the factory settings or you have installed your own version of Windows?
And what operating system are you using? Have you installed all Windows updates?

For external LCD, monitors, you must set the screen refresh rate of 60 Hz.
And if you want to change the resolution of the screen, you must select the second monitor in the graphics options on Windows.

  • Can Satellite Pro U400-13I - I reinstall the CD/DVD creation software?

    Hello

Can someone help me with my problem.
I have a Satellite Pro U400-13I and use XP he. As I experienced some problems with the creation of CD, I decided to uninstall and reinstall.
However, I am unable to find the program to install only the software above without having to run the XP DVD recovery (which will format the entire HARD drive), I have a lot of data and some third party software that I do not want to miss, so is unable to format the drive HARD rightaway.

    Would appreciate a solution

    Thanks in advance
    SJ

What program you mean exactly for creating CD/DVD?

If you mean the Toshiba disk creator I think it can t be downloaded. I checked from Toshiba Web site but I can't find it.
But you can use another program to create CD/DVD, for example Nero or CD Burner XP (freeware).

    I hope I could help a bit.

  • Satellite L750 - Windows 10 - can I roll back to Windows 7?

I upgraded to 10 Windows in Windows 7, but I lost the wireless driver and cannot download it from anywhere (unless you know better). Also, I lost Internet Explorer. When I tried to download the system I have an updated copy even though God knows where he is.

My question is - can I roll back to Windows 7, which I was pretty happy?

As much as I know L750 is not supported for Win10 so I think that the best option for you is to go back to Win7.
After several problems with Win10, I did the same thing and I am happy now using original Win7.

    Hello

I think it is just a software problem (Boot Manager).
    Try to repair the operating system by using HARD disk recovery;
    Press F8 why portable power.
Then choose fix my computer, then choose disk HARD recovery.

If this is not possible, order the disk recovery from here:

Then, you will be able to reinstall the OS using the recovery disk

    Hi mate

Unfortunately if something was wrong during the update of the BIOS, then you won't be able to solve this problem without the help of a technician of the ASP

I hope that the ROM BIOS module is not too bad
In the worst case that the mobo is damage but maybe it s not damaged

However. You must contact a local ASP and must ask for the manipulation of the Fryer!

    Hello
Since I bought 4GB of RAM for my Satellite Pro U400 PSU45E, I installed vista Business 64-bit, with all drivers and bios 64 bit found on the toshiba site.
easy, with the exception of the "value added package 1.1.19", whenever I try to install I get: error "failure of GetProfString."

I installed every driver and utility for 64-bit, but still the same...

Without VAP, I can't use the Toshiba power saver, worst profiles I can't go back because I did a new install and deleted the recovery partition!
    Please, someone help!

    Hello

VAP contains all the modules necessary and you n t need to install other tools in order to install VAP
I think that it s a Vista may issue you should do a clean install, then you must update the Vista for the last State.
After have installed all the patches Vista, try to install VAP and other tools.

  • Satellite Pro U400 starts and overheating problems

    Hello

6 weeks ago, I bought a Satellite Pro U400. Shortly after that I bought, I noticed that the computer overheating. After 1 hour of use, it becomes very hot in the touchpad area, as well in the base of the computer and on the touchpad itself. It is very annoying because I almost burn my fingers with the touch pad.

The problems began 10 days ago. I had been using the laptop for an hour when it suddenly turned off without notice. Power outage? I don't know Don t. I looked like a sytem of overheating protection. My previous laptop had the same problem. After a few minutes, I was able to turn it back on.

Then it happened again a few days ago, but it took me 5 minutes to turn on. Yesterday, it happened again, and after 45 minutes without response, I went to bed. In the morning, I was able to turn it on.

This also happens when wifi is disabled, it is not only a problem with the wifi card, overheating of the system.

Am I the only one having this problem? I will try to send it back to Toshiba for a replacement or a refund.

Is this normal in a really new machine?

    Thank you

First, the warming of the touchpad is normal for almost every laptop, due to construction. Under this, there are the HARD drive and it produces heat. With my last books, and it was not bad, too.
But really to get so hot?

Due to the protection against overheating, it is normal that you cannot turn on your laptop immediately.
But the wireless card is not the device in question, because it's a very small piece of hardware and produce little heat.

You said, you had this problem with your notebook previous too. Let me ask you, when you use your notebooks? What your table surface there or is there no matter what on that table cloth?

What I can tell you right now is, to check your locations of fantilation for all dust or maybe you have objects near it so that hot air can not cool.

  • Low-speed satellite Pro U400-142 - Wireless-N speed problems-

    Hi guys...

I ve just bought a laptop Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-142...
I have a belkin N1 Wireless cable router...
I was really happy that I could get the speed up to 300 Mbps... with this laptop and the router...

I am very very disappointed that he is only showing 65Mbps... My laptop supports Wireless N such that it has a wifi Intel 5100 card inside...
    Why show a low speed?

I m in the same room as the wireless router if the signal is excellent...
I've tweaked on with the settings in the network adapter settings...
I got it to 130Mbps... for about 10 seconds before it dropped back down to 65Mbps...

Can someone tell me what is the problem?
I need to change some settings on my N1 router or what?
This was one of the main reasons why I bought this laptop.

    concerning

You have reason seems the wireless network adapter supports the Draft N
But are you sure that you are using Draft N?

Is it enabled in the Device Manager-> properties-> Advanced tab card WLan?

At 802.11 N selected in your router settings?
Update you the BIOS and WLan card driver?

  • Satellite Pro U400-11V - Installation using the floppy from XP downgrade

    Hello

Yesterday I had to replace my HARD drive once it is simply dead.
I didn't know it was a big deal that I had lost any data.
I would just like to re - install Windows XP using the Downgrade XP disk came with the laptop.

It turns out that: I have about 10 discs Downgrade XP each almost identical looking and everyone, I assume, associated with a particular Toshiba laptop my company bought at some point.
Now, I have no idea what drive is the one that came with my Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-11V.

    What I did:
    -We selected at random.
    -Installed Win Xp Pro.
    -Tried to activate Windows.
-It indicates that the product key is bad (and some drivers are missing, so it is obviously not the disc that came with the laptop, but he got me so far).
-Correct the product key according to the key that is located on a sticker at the bottom on the laptop *.
    * On the sticker, this key is an OEMAct Windows Vista Business key, the OS of the laptop came with.
-L'activation of Windows will not accept the key to the sticker.

    So I have 2 questions:
    1. is there another method of re - install Windows XP Pro using the * original * Downgrade XP disk that came with?
2 (leading to #1) is it possible to identify which drive is the one shipped with my laptop? Perhaps by checking some serial numbers on the disc?

Worst case scenario I'll have to make (at most) 10 Windows installs until one works.
But I was really hoping some help & advice.

I can't wait to hear all the answers,
    Thank you!

    Hello

    > I have about 10 discs Downgrade XP each almost identical search and each, I presume, associated with a particular Toshiba laptop my company bought at some point.
    > Now, I have no idea what drive is the one that came with my Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-11V
Your ad is really funny :D

I put t know how your Win XP drive looks like. My laptop came with the recovery disk and it was mentioned on the label that it's Toshiba recovery disc.

In addition he s already enabled so I put t need to activate the operating system by using this key.
Also, the key at the bottom of the unit belongs to the preinstalled operating system and it will NOT work with the new Win XP or another operating system.

But back to your Win XP disks
I recommend that you check the single disc... maybe a disc is already activated

I try to do the recovery only by pressing f8 without answering.

How can I recover my laptop to its state of origin as drive HARD recovery again in d:
    Thanks in adv

    Hello

You will not be able to restore the factory settings because another operating system has been installed on the first partition.
Usually by pressing F8 immediately after the laptop has been powered should allow the advanced on-screen menu. Here, you should choose option called repair my computer and Toshiba Recovery HARD drive.

But if this doesn t work then you will not be able to use HARD drive recovery.
In this case, you will need to order the new CD from here:
