  Can anyone else think of any other possible explanation and how I can solve this problem. Could something changed in the BIOS? Is there a setting that has changed I have to look?

  Sorry, but if your talk to get the mouse drivers from HP, what's not at work, such as HP does not include drivers for the hardware not HP.

  Have you tried to download the drivers from the manufacturer of the mouse?

  You must go to the settings, update & Security-> Windows Update.

  Then, choose Advanced-> history to see when the updates have been applied last. If you see one that include device drivers, who might be the problem. Do so you by going into Device Manager, see if the device is still listed and so, trying to restore the last driver update.

  I see that the Web Site of Toshiba UK does not list the reader pionting device for your laptop model. So I assume that it should use the standard version of Windows XP.

  Check in for your pointing device Device Manager to see if it is showing up with errors. Also, you should be able to run a troubleshooter for it and perhaps also a calibration tool. (You may need to move around with the arrow keys or tab).

  If all else fails, you can try to recover your system with the recovery CD and that the pointer is still not working properly, then this would indicate a hardware fault.
