Satellite Type RAM S1800-814 and upgrade?

Hello
I have a Pentium 3 1.1 Ghz Toshiba Satellite S1800-814. Its quite old, well a few years anywho. Since I can't afford a new laptop I do things to speed it up a little.
As more ram? Its got currently 2 x 128 MB. I was thinking about a 128 MB of Chuck and replacing with a new chip of 256 MB of ram. Back to 384 MB. It would be an ok thing to do, it would make my laptop run a little faster? Im not sure what kind of ram it's also, is it pc100 or pc133? I just get a computer notebook pc100 or pc133 memory and put it in?
I also noticed that windows says that my ram as 240 MB? Why is this? The bios has never been updated, don't you think not update this can solve the problem and show my ram as being 256 MB as it should right now? Ive heard of people bios update here and the laptop then goes dead, is there a risk of damage to the laptop if I update the bios?

Thanks for any info, I know Ive asked a lot of questions but I hope someonce can help me.

Tom

Tom,

To answer some of your questions: -.

1. your noteboook shows only 240 MB of RAM, because 16 MB is reserved for your graphics card. This can show in your BIOS as UMA. If you add the new memory so you can be able to increase this amount to 32 MB or higher.

2. update your BIOS is relatively simple and reasonably safe. Try to use the Windows method if possible because it avoids having to boot from a floppy drive.
Make sure that you are on the current (no battery) when you perform the update. The worst case is for the laptop to disabled during the update of the BIOS.
Finally, make sure you use the update of the correct BIOS from the Toshiba web site. They are model specific.

3. Turning to the RAM memory modules, I'll try to use compatible modules from a supplier of good quality (such as those provided by Toshiba). Some of the cheaper varieties may not work well (or not at all).
Check on the Toshiba web site to see what is the maximum RAM that the model will support you and also what part number, you will need. You can then Google for appropriate providers (or makes it compatible) If you want
Finally, be very careful and avoid any discharge of static electricity, while managing the RAM modules, they can be very easily damaged.

Good luck

The latest version of Windows Media Player that could open almost any multimedia file was version 6.4. Starting from this version, Microsoft have not been allowed to allow WMP to play almost any type of media file, and they were taken to court top.

That's why Microsoft does not now permit. Apparently, the decisions of the Court are there to give other media players, including Apple stuff, a foothold in the market. I don't think Microsoft 3rd party codecs use same lawyer in case they have trouble.

  • Satellite Pro A300 - 1 2 - HDD upgrade advice

    Hello

I would really appreciate the help as I'm going round in circles. I have a Satellite Pro A300 - 1 2, and I want to replace the HARD drive and install Windows 7, what is the best HARD drive I can get to the laptop?

Also, what is the maxium of RAM I can install in your laptop.

Any advice would be great machines running lately and I think that the HARD drive has a bad sector in it.

    See you soon,.

    James

Best HARD drive? For that matter I n t I answer. You don't have compatible HARD DRIVE but need to better. According to the specifications of the laptop your drive HARD original was 250 GB SATA HDD.
I have my HDD Samsung A300 inside. Visit your local dealer and buy high quality with 300 or 400 GB SATA 2.5 HARD drive maybe. It will be sufficient, I think. We Toshiba, Samsung or Hitachi HARD drive. Check the price and decision.

RAM upgrade: your laptop can handle with 4 GB of RAM. no more than that. If you have 2 GB inside buy more RAM of 2 GB module. 2 GB compatible RAM has PA3513U-1M2G part number.

    Good bye

  • Satellite Pro L450D - 12 X - CPU upgrade

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro L450D - 12 X and I was wondering which processors 'Dual Core' support this laptop for a CPU upgrade?

Have a read of other peoples threads, it is possible for the laptop to have an upgrade, but I'm not sure of what those who actually support. The most common dual core would be the dual core 'Stalk' However, there are many processors that go under the name "stalk".

I was also wondering if all Toshiba L450Ds have the same motherboard etc... because they contain the same case and (mostly) graphics card

    Thank you very much

I assume that you have already read this Toshiba doesn't support CPU upgrade and a public document on processors compatible doesn t exist.
You can just hope that someone has an identical identical machine with the hardware platform and can offer some info on these updates.

For best performance, you can start with the RAM upgrade. Have you upgraded RAM to max level?

  • Satellite 1605cds: RAM has not reported in Windows 2000

    Hello

    I have a 2nd hand Toshiba Satellite 1605cds/4.3 (amd k6-2 450 mhz basic system).
It has 32 MB of ram on board and a dimm slot - so put in a memory of 128 MB.

But I read this Web page:

    http://fandelem.com/toshiba2.html

where it says it can be improved with a 256 MB memory module!

I have it plugged in and it correctly sees 288 MB (32 MB onboard 256 MB on housing) in the bios.
When I boot from the partition of Windows 98 Second edition, it shows the 288 amount of ram.

.. .but when I boot on the partition of Windows 2000 Professional, it displays a blue screen saying that the bios is not an improved ACPI bios. It says that I have to push the F7 key during the installation of Windows 2000 to disable ACPI and install HAL.

But if I remove the 256 MB slot, Windows 2000 starts correctly without any problem.

I tried to reinstall Windows 2000 by pushing the F7 key during installation, but then Windows 2000 shows that the 32 MB of ram.

So, what can I do to run Windows 2000 and 256 MB module?
The bios is the last that can be downloaded on the web page of toshiba.

Thanks to all and sorry for my English.

    Hello

According to your description W2k said to update the layer HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer). In Windows 2000, there are several ways to solve the problems associated with the material (HAL, Hardware Abstraction Layer) Abstraction layer that may occur due to bad detection, an obsolete or non compliant Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) or incorrectly installed computer type or manually.

For more information, please see this Microsoft support site:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/237556

But as I know Toshiba supports the 128 MB only on this unit and if you want to use more ram you can do at your own risk!

  • Re: Satellite A500 - 1 H 4 memory upgrade: what characteristics?

    Hello

    I own a Toshiba Satellite A500 - 1 H 4, and I would like to improve my memory of 4 & 2 GB 4 & 4 installation.
Given the complexity of the subject, I need some information:

-What are the detailed specifications? Memory of 1066 or 1333 MHz? Should have 200 or 204 pins?
-do I replace both of the chips or one would suffice?

    Grateful for answers.

    Also, sorry for my English.

    Best regards
    Piotr

    Hello

AFAIK the upgrade of RAM is mentioned in the user manual.
Have you checked this in the past?

    The laptop runs of DDR3 1066 MHz (PC3-8500) DDR3-SO-DIMM (204 PIN)
    memory modules.
You can upgrade the RAM to 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) because the Intel HM55 supports 8 GB of RAM.

I recommend using two exactly the same modules to avoid some compatibility problems.

  • My Satellite M70 no longer works, and caps button flashes

My problem was explained in the title. I just want to know if there is a problem or not. I work on Linux and windows XP, but the problem can happen in the BIOS.
    Thank you, Vivien.
If you need more information, please ask me :)
PS: it's the Satellite M70, and I changed the RAM

    Hello

I'm afraid that you have to be a little more specific than one that's a little wave... but now that you mention that you have changed the RAM maybe this is related to the question of Mr. is your RAM speed appropriate for your laptop? (Example to 400 or 533 MHz, regardless of the speed is indicated for your product). Because if your RAM is at the wrong speed, or at a higher speed (for example, 667 MHz, which happened with me) the computer can crash/blue screen/go crazy.

In fact, now I remember that my flash CAPS LOCK button too, because of the bad RAM or Aries do not correctly inserted. I recommend to check the speed of your RAM and make sure that you have inserted the right type, RAM speed and you have inserted it correctly

    I hope this helps.

  • Satellite L770D - 10 d - the processor upgrade

I have SATELLITE L770D - 10 d with AMD A4 - 3300M and I would like to upgrade the processor to for example A8 - 3500M, since they have the same socket and TDP. I have the Toshiba support pages, but I couldn't find an answer.

This is because toshiba usually does not support updates to their laptops and if they do its own risk

the only way to know if it works is to screw open the laptop and see if the cpu is not soldered to the motherboard
If that's your out of luck and the custom then able to switch on the cpu

If not then u check if the motherboard support is the same as the new A8 - 3500 m

If it's the same thing then u go to the step following and demand for the bios - mods.com if your BIOS has the required firmware for this cpu

then IF that is okey then you will be able to replace the cpu

remind u this will require you to disassemble almost all computer laptop and high risk damage to your product if it is not done right
so, if you don't have any COMPUTER knowledge id suggest u not not for this

This time did so with L500-1ZP, which came with an i3 330 m and upgraded to an i7 620 m still solid

    Hello

After the upgrade to Windows 10 Webcam and Fn keys do not work.

Where can I find driver updates?

    Thanks for the reply.

Where can I find driver updates?

Unfortunately, it seems that the Satellite A500 is too old and will not be Windows 10 drivers.
I found the Toshiba site, which provides information on the Toshiba models supported for upgrading to Windows 10 and the A500 is not which are listed there.
    http://win10upgrade.Toshiba.com/swup...SPX?region=TEG

Generally, all Toshiba drivers earn 10 for other models of laptops can be downloaded on this page:
    http://win10upgrade.Toshiba.com/swup...SPX?region=TEG
then maybe you can see the drivers released for other series...

I also read that some of the riders Win 8 could also work in the frame to win 10.

  • Satellite Pro 6100 - memory / disk HARD upgrade

    Hello

Ive got two questions regarding the upgrade of this laptop:

My units equipped with a 60 GB hard drive. What is the maximum size possible? What is the bios (Im running the real 1.9) support? These days this drives 2.5 "are available up to 160 GB. I could just buy one, stick it in and my uncle bobs? Or will I run in serious trouble?

I would switch the system memory to 1 GB, so two sticks of 512 MB should be used. I could use all the modules, which meets the toshibas specifications? 200Pin SO-DIMM, DDR 266, 32Mx8 organization. Or I have to buy a special memory, which would be a lot more money?

    Hello, my friend ;)

I think the 160 GB is a dream that I n t think you will be able to use this large HDD.
Maybe a 80 GB HDD works, but I don't know about it Mr. I think you should test it.

Laptop supports modules of RAM DDR PC2100 and I think you should use the modules recommended by Toshiba. The modules are:
    PC2100 128 MB (PA3126U - 1 M 12)
    PC2100 256 MB (PA3127U - 1 M 25)
    PC2100 512 MB (PA3164U - 1 M 51)

By the way: modules without a name are not recommended because performance is not great

  • Satellite P10 - Windows XP (SP3) and the use of the library

My Satellite P10 is vintage 2003 and Windows Media Center onboard.
Recently, when you try to log in to use the new possibilities of TV capture which are installed in line I was in charge I needed to upgrade to Windows Media Player 11 (or higher) to be able to watch these TV programs.

After you download WM11 and try to load, I get the error message "you have Windows Media Center 2005 or later version to run WM11.

Someone else I have a problem and can I do (apart from dumping my P10 and purchase of a Mac (which is what my son told me to do!).)

    Hello

Depending on your message, your laptop uses Windows Win XP MCE
Looks like you are using the old version which is 2003

The providing of WMP11 error message says that you need the most recent version; 2005.

I think you simply update the Windows media Center.

For this, you can see this Microsoft Web site: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/mediacenter.msp
