Satellite U200 163 and Linux - sound disappeared

Hi all

I just installed ubuntu 9.04 on my u200, it worked very well with the live CD with almost any linux, but the sound no longer works after a while
I think the problem is with the bios or could be fixed with windows settings
Unfortunately, I deleted windows so now I have to find another solution
I am sure that this is not a software problem, but more tied to the bios or strange sound equipment.

Thanks in advance
Stone

Hi pierrot2027,

of course, it is the bios... It is evolving without interaction...
I'm kidding!

which leads to believe that the bios is defective when:
-its has been authorized for a period of time
-you do not change anything inside the bios or hardware

try to modprobe a new soundmodule, perhaps some stock loading a bad module...
or reinstall the system...

BTW: windows is an operating system like linux - if it's a hardware failure, you are not able to fix in any os at all.

    Hi ft

Unfortunately I have no explanation for what is happening exactly to your device, but don t forget that your device is not supported under Linux and also designed for Windows XP.

Satellite U200 is more recent and it is possible that in a month next someone will do some Linux experience on this unit and reported it here.

  • 3.30 BIOS bug with Linux on Satellite U200 163

    Good evening

3.30 BIOS does not work properly on my U200 163 (dual boot using Grub).
(all that has been done on XP Toshiba EU site, with the correct procedures).

Sometimes the "Toshiba" splash image does not appear, and the image has a hard time (Please note that the arrows to choose the boot option are not available in this case...).
(Note that this point is independent of the operating system...)
Sometimes, Grub does not appear (but a start of the first line of the menu).
My shortcut keys do not work on Kubuntu (they do on the version 1.50).

I finally go back to version 1.50, which works perfectly with the boot image, Grub, Ubuntu or XP.

Please note that the changelog information data on Toshiba U.S. and none EU from Toshiba... Why? (not even a link!)
It would be useful for me to see that I don't have the 3.30 anyway?

    Ford Hi

As you probably know the BIOS updates are not specifically designed for the Grub, Ubuntu or any other Linux.

In the first stage, the update of the BIOS has been designed with Microsoft OS and it s compatible with Vista and other products Ms.
Of course, its a shame that the different distribution of Linux only does not work correctly with the version 3.30 but to my knowledge, Toshiba does not support Linux distributions and you will get no guarantee that any Linux will work fine.

As you know most of the people want to install and use the Vista and the Microsoft OS and Linux No. So it of your choice to use Linux but in this case you should not use Bios 3.3.

    Greetings

PS: If it please follow Forum guidelines and do not start different threads on the same topic!

Update: BIOS 3.4 have also solved the bug of Linux

  • Its on a Satellite U200 163 Vista problems

    Hello everyone,

I try to install Vista Home Basic on my U200 163, but I am facing many problems and really need help...

My biggest problem is that, after the upgrade, I have no sound on my computer. I installed the latest drivers from toshiba (toshiba American site vista drivers), my chipset is recognized as "Soundmax Integrated Digital HD Audio" and everything seems to be allright, but my speakers as well as my jack cards give no sound. Everything was ok under XP and my sound settings are ok, I even see the volume changes in the sound settings, I've never seen such a problem before... Did someone had an idea?

Moreover, I didn't find the drivers for sensor HDD and several applications of toshiba important as protector of HDD, energy-saving, indicator of volume, hotkey utility cannot be run...

I hope someone can help, thank you very much.

  • Satellite U200 163 with Vista: UJ-842 drive cannot burn CD - R or CD - RW properly

    Hello world

I recently purchased Windows Vista Basic and since Home Edition? m running my recorder, a carpet of this new OS on my U200 163 * a UJ-842 can burn CD - R or CD - RW properly.
I think my firmware needs to be updated, but Toshiba nor Mat * a are able to help me.

    You have an idea?
    Thanks for your help

    Hello

I don t think you need to update the firmware.
I recommend using a compatible support and supported!

In the user manual, you will find a list of supported CD and DVD!

Also try to burn the CD or DVD with extra like Nero burning software.
Nero supports an option to test the drive. He learned the best speed and control the burning procedure to get performance better combustion.

  • How to get the Bluetooth works on Satellite U300-155 and Linux Kubuntu 8.04

I bought Toshiba Satellite U300-155 and I have Kubuntu 8.04 languages, but I don't see bluetooth when I turn it on.
How can I use bluetooth under kububtu 8.04?

Check if the antenna of your laptop switch is on. I think that the graphic tool should exist to manage the bluetooth. However if you're familiar with the linux console
Then, you can also try the following command to activate bluetooth:

sudo toshset - bluetooth module Bluetooth to connect to the USB bus
    sudo hciconfig hci0 upward
sudo lsmod toshiba_apci-online background of access keys (+)
    sudo tail-f/var/log/acpi
module installation sudo modprobe toshiba_acpi if not already available
Press + to turn Bluetooth on or off. Check the acpi log output
sudo hciconfig hci0 Bluetooth peripheral power

  • Change the Wifi card in the Satellite U200 163

    Hello

Is it possible to change the wifi card internal of my computer toshiba laptop u200-163, I can change the hard disk?

    Thank you.

If you use the compatible WiFi card I see no problem, but in my opinion, there is no reason for this. I guess your laptop comes with WLAN card 802.11a/b/g and using the g standard data transfer is fast enough and you avoid any problems if you use your laptop for work.

  • Re: Satellite L - colors and graphics have disappeared

    Hello world

I have a problem with my screen whose colors and the graphics disappeared. This is particularly evident in my email (gmail) and Facebook.

Performing a recovery of HARD drive won't solve the problem? Will I lose my files and other programs if I perform HARD drive recovery?

    Thank you.
    Treszce13

    Hello

    > which the colors and graphics are gone
How to understand this? Sorry, but I don't know what you mean it, especially if it happens on Gmail and Facebook.

Can you post a photo or a screenshot of that?

    > Executing a HARD drive recovery will solve the problem? Will I lose my files and other programs if I perform HARD drive recovery?
If it s just associated software problem HARD drive recovery will solve your problem, Yes. HARD drive recovery will remove the first partition, so if you have important data on the first partition you must make a backup before you start with the installation of HARD drive recovery.

  • Satellite U200 163: BIOS download 3.40-> XP-Linux BIOS bug resolved

I was told there was no bug with 3.30, but these are the changes (extract from Toshiba U.S. web site):

    * Added CPU support: optimized the thermostat during low temperature operations.
    * This BIOS supports the Windows XP and Vista.

It was not the case before?

Found on the Toshiba site we (that, I tell you once again, gives more information on changes in bios):

  • Satellite A300D-14U and WXP - sound quality changes

    Hello world.

I have a very strange problem with my new laptop. I have new notebook Satellite A300D-14U. I installed XP and all the drivers, but recently, I have noticed this problem. When media player or Winamp (or etc.) of plays and I get a message in Skype, MSN or there is no further action with sound, then the important sound changes.

I mean the quality of the sound change quickly. Like mono to stereo, like Equalizer is lit at the time. After that, it remains for 2-3 minutes and gets back to the previous state. The problem is that the change is impressive and I would that it would always be like that. For a while, I started to wonder what I mean really usually stereo of these "harman/kardons?

I tried reinstalling the drivers, all the updates are installed, SP3. Any idea what can be?

P.S. I always clear sound, but I would get the better of him.

Hmm very strange, try to connect a headset and check if the same sound issue seems to use the helmet.

  • Satellite Pro 4200 and Linux

Yes. I have still the old 4200. Is that too old for any support? As for Linux? Anyone know of any good distributions that I could use? I tried Fedora Core 3 but it is really too large and affects stability. My live Ubuntu CD won't even load, which is quietly, as I don't quite like Ubuntu. I've got MEPIS Linux. Someone at - it tried?

Is it possible to get drivers for the monitor? I have re-installed Win98 "and now the screen is really small or the resolution is bad.

My goal is to have a dual boot. Grub Boot Win98 as a default and a distribution of linux as a secondary for me.

    Hi Andy

Problem is that Linux is not supported by Toshiba and if you have problems you're alone. If you want, you can check this page. Maybe you can find some information useful http://newsletter.toshiba-tro.de/main/index.html.

If you need drivers for your unit you can find them on http://www.toshiba.ca/web/home.
