The sound worked under Vista. I installed all the Windows XP drivers supplied by Toshiba on their web site. I updated the BIOS to the version of 15/12/08. When I use the sound mute button, I see the changing icon to mute to mute not (and vice versa).

  For the audio drivers, once I discovered this problem, I tried:
  -install directly from Realtek drivers out of their website (version 2.12) (uninstall the toshiba drivers, reboot, install the realtek drivers, reboot)
  -install the KB888111 and KB198658 (uninstall the audio drivers, install 1 KB, reboot, install second KB, restart, install the audio drivers toshiba, reboot)
