Scanning of negatives

I have a 4850 HPScanjet I haven't used since the purchase of a new computer.  It works very well for the documents and pictures, but I can't get all the options until negative scan.  Don't know what are the options I used to get!  It's been awhile...

Hi maas.

I'm looking on the site of HP support for your Scanjet.

http://h20566.www2.HP.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.page/public/PSI/learnUseDisplay/?sp4ts.Oid=447373 & spf_p.tpst = psiContentDisplay & spf_p.prp_psiContentDisplay=wsrp-navigationalState%3DdocId%253Demr_na-c00399377-1%257CdocLocale%253Den_US & javax.portlet.begCacheTok = com.vignette.cachetoken & javax.portlet.endCacheTok = com.vignette.cachetoken

Is your new Windows or Mac computer?  What version?

There are drivers for Windows 7 and 8, but they are basic drivers who cannot support the card used for the scanning of negatives.

There is a document to use the Vista driver full features in Windows 7 that would work.

  • Scanning of negatives to stick mem takes forever

I'm scanning the negatives of 35 mm black and white of my HP Photosmart 3210 all-in-One on a usb key.

Each band with five pictures takes about 15 minutes to analyze.

The resolution of digital photos is high, 2400 dpi.

As the scanner is not connected to a network, I can't change any settings. Is there anything else I can do to fix this?

    Thank you

    Anna

    Hey, Anna,.

If you scan in the slot for the memory card from the printer, then you will have the opportunity to change the scanning settings.  One thing I want to emphasize, is that you try to scan a negative picture requiring a high-resolution clarity.  Analysis of a file at 2400 DPI will have a little time to scan the image and an extension to save the connection/USB USB thumbdrive.

I sympathize with the time it takes, but there are many factors that lead to what is the case and most of the time is immutable.  Hope this helps to clarify.

  • Scanning of negatives 35mm to digital with envy Printer series 110

I envy series 110 printer/scanner/fax and would like to know if it is possible to scan 35 mm negatives and save them as a digital file on cd/dvd?

    Hello

Only a Transparent Media Support of 35mm slides scanning capable scanners, the envy of 110 does not include this feature and therefore does not support scanning negatives or slides.

  • Photoshop scanned the negatives n & B - too much light

Negatives scanned old photos - they are pretty much correct in XnView but too lightly in Photoshop.

The color space is set to sRGB, my monitor, XnViewMP and Photoshop. (Versatile Europe 3)

I tried a few things and noticed that when you change the settings of Photoshop Europe Web/Internet 2 color

It approximates what XnViewMP shows, "right",

What then setting the right color then for ICC non-integrated photos (or in this cases negative)?

    Thank you

    (Photoshop CS6)

Unfortunately I could not upload a picture (with comparison, notes, etc.) It took me a while to put it all together

but then to find out that it would be too big and then be reduced to a size where added remarks cannot be read.

I couldn't add a url to imgur either, so that it would show up as a thumbnail, and if clicked

the original size would then appear to the imgur website.

    =

General European goal 3 uses Dot Gain 10%, which is for offset printing. Use the Web/Internet implementation, which uses Gamma 2.2, which is suitable for inkjet printing and screen display. If you use the settings below, Photoshop will ask you what do when you open an image tag, and you then choose "assign gray work."

If you can do the scanning software incorporate the profile of Gamma 2.2, you won't get this dialog box.

And the histogram shows that you cut the dark tones and clear, they are banged against the sides. This means that you lose details in dark and light image areas.

Try to adjust the image in the scanning software so that you get a histogram that looks more like this - with a space at both ends:

I always scan with very low contrast - it's easy to increase the contrast, to need later in Photoshop.

And I recommend that you are investigating as 16-bit tiff instead of jpg - that is not intended for the edition - the file will deteriorate every time that you save it.

  • can I use HP Officejet J4580 to scan negatives?

I was wondering if my all-in-one HP scan negatives. If so, how it looks like a regular (normal) JPEG file?

    Hi there DRgn83

I looked in the User Guide and specifications printers and don't see any information on the scanning of negatives with the Officejet J4580.

I hope that helps answer your question!

  • A 35mm negative scanning

I have a scanner/printer C4200 All In One.  I can scan a negative in a 35mm image?  If so how is this possible?

    Thank you.

    Hi c808,.

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I see you're wondering if you can scan a 35mm negative in an image with your HP Photosmart c4200.

There is a technical reason for this problem. The 35mm negatives require a light above the document to shine through the material.  All-in-One scanners use a light below to reflect the image.

Hope that answers your question and have a nice day!

  • 35mm negative scanning?

Hello.  I recently bought a Canon Printer/Scanner opportunity hoping to digitize my 35mm negatives and work with them in Lightroom.  I imported after scanning at 300 dpi (high resolution that I can scan with), but the files are too small in LR.  I am unable to get them to a regular size photo.

In addition, the scanned negatives are a bit dark.  Also, should I put a white screen on top of the negative during the scan?  I'll do some research in the meantime.  THX.

Yes, it's good enough for the digitization of printed things. But as you noted, scanning of negatives does not produce an image large enough to do much with. The DPI setting really has nothing to do with the quality as much as it affects the size of the final image. If you can find a way to scan your negatives 2400 dpi, you will find that your images will be quite large so that you can work with them. The image itself will not be 300 dpi. The image will simply be the pixel dimensions. And the definition of the DPI is what affects the size of the image will be in pixels.

After looking at the description for your printer/scanner, I don't think he has the ability to scan negatives. I now understand what you thought putting a sheet of paper on the negative. But that's not really going to help. If you want to scan negatives and slides, you need to do a scanner that is designed to do. This normally involves having things built into the lid of the scanner. I could be wrong, but I do not.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you want to scan negatives and possibly slide, it would be necessary for you to have a scanner that has the built-in capability. A typical scanner you have does not have this capability.

  • Scanning slides and negatives in 12 items

How can I scan slides, negatives, color and B7W negative in 12 items?

After going through the process of scanning old photos on the film and 2 x 2 "Kodacolor slides in the cardboard, I suggest that you look into a dedicated converter. I have a unit of Wolverine F2D. The scans are placed on a map of camera in the device, then you can transfer them to the disc. From there, open them in PES and improve them.

Most of the 2 x 2 were still in good condition, not too bad... no mildew. The process is somewhat tedious, so, do a little at a time.

It's a rewarding experience. Good luck.

  • Photosmart 3210 all in one: Scan and reinstall the program failures

Printer isn't online and firewall is on and no network.  Printer and scanner going good since 2006 until I tried to scan a negative, I think for the first time in its history.  Scan bar will quickly about 2 inches and lamp turns off and printer says to stop, but this isn't.   Had to unplug, but printer would reset with all functions (except movie option).  Uninstalled and reinstall failed with the error situation code 03215762.  Print function works with other programs and copy function works, just can't sweep, and there is no solution Center, could not reinstall.  Resettlement goes to 2% with the status - stop services - bogs and Print Spooler Service and will remain bogged down for hours until the end with the Task Manager.

During the forced relocation ends and said deleting files, another error situation code 06458626 comes up with a few lines comes from installation error logs.  Help would be wonderful.

Due to personal obligations, could not work on reinstalling printer until this week.  Put a link to MS and I've tried suggestions there - .NET updates, enter the registry and delete some files and a work-around suggested without success.  Next I googled "Can not stop spooler on MS XP SP3" and as choice went to forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/897775-can't-stop-spooler.html, Harry 32, January 28, 2010.  This guy had a sounding similar problem and his solution worked.  MS Fax in windows, computer components unchecked rebooted, went to spooler MS services, stop selected, and he stopped.  YES!  Then I ran the new drivers you sent and installed the program without glitches.  YES, once again! (actually when install stopped and said spooler was arrested and I wanted it to be fixed and started then the installation can continue; naturally, I selected Yes.)  I scanned a photo, printed and made a copy successfully.  However, I tried again to scan a negative from the solution Center and the button on the Panel of the printer without success.    I'll close this as 'select solution' and start a new discussion of assistance on the issue of negative scan.  Very gratedful for all your help.  I'd never know what Google if you had not discovered in troubleshooting spooler problem.

  • Change of negatives to print on HP Compaq and printer 5520

I have more than 300 negative 110 and 35 mm that I want to make prints.  Can I do it myself with 5520 of HP and Compaq Presario printer?  How?  (Or if I should buy a different device?)

    Hi markydob,

    Welcome to the HP forums!

I see that you are looking for a way to turn the negatives into digital files, from where you can print photos with your Photosmart 5520. I will certainly do my best to explain what you need to do this

Unfortunately the Photosmart 5520 scan photo negatives. Actually, I should say it can not turn them into photos, it would be just negative scanner and you would have a digital version of your negatives. What you will need to get a scanner of negatives/slides, as explained in this Post on the CNET Forum or you can contact local camera/photo shops to see if they can help you in this business as well.

Hope this helps and hope you have a great weekend!

It is possible to scan my negatives photo with this product.   If so, how.   I'm a complete novice with all this.

    Thanking you in advance,

    ohdear.

No, it is not possible to scan negatives with this product.  However, the product range Scanjet offer scanners that will scan negatives such as the Scanjet G4010 and G4050.

  • Printing negatives

I have a HP Photosmart C7180 all in one.  I try to scan old negatives and print your photos.  I can scan negatives, but I don't know what to do next.  They scan just as they are, as the negatives.  I can't find anything in the help to get past this point. Can I special software?

No need to get any software...

What you need to do, it is a scanner or a printer taking care of the negatives...

Your printer does not support negative scanning... HP manufactures any printer that is able to scan negatives.

However, they still have a scanner capable of scanning negatives.

    HP Scanjet G4010 Photo Scanner

  • HP 7640: Negative-positive Conversion

Hello!  Can I use my HP7640 to convert negatives possitive images and print them?  If so, what are the steps.  Thank you.

No, you cannot scan negatives on these all-in-one. To scan negatives, the scanner must have the special adapter, as well as the right sensor technology. You must get a scanner/AiO which is designed for scanning of negatives. Or get reprints of first from negatives.

  • Slide and scanning photos

HP offers models/media to scan slides 35 mm and photos of varying size on all-in-One Pro8500A device?  I have a PhotoSmart Photo Scanner S2o but it seems that HP doesn't have drivers for this unit for Win 7.

    Hello

I understand that you are referring to the scanning of negatives/Flim. If Yes this printer doesn't support scanning of slides. So it does not come with any holder /template for this type fo scaning

Please come back for more details.
