  I'm just getting started with Oracle and noticed the fields numbers, even number (1) or number (2), require a LOT of memory (22 bytes, this is what always comes to me in 10g XE). VARCHAR2 fields, however, seem to require bytes as well as the length of the field (5 bytes for varchar2 (5), etc.).
  
  So, I guess this is advantageous in Oracle use varchar2 fields rather than numbers in the search field when you have relatively low search lists.

  Numbers in Oracle are not such as integer or long in a programming language, but they certainly do not always take 22 bytes.
  You can read how the numbers are stored in metalink Note 1007641.6. In general, Oracle uses a byte for exhibitor, the rest are in base 100.

  You can also check the actual size and data using the functions vsize and dump (but first read the note):

  have a Hp laptop, I have managed to change the keyboard accidentally and now when I type with the number lock some letters on keyboard etc not the letter that is the letter lkj type numbers become 123 of the normal keyboard. HELP have what setting I changed it looked cant find any info. I have enabled the language setting and have defined as UK can not see anything that would affect the settings. My laptop has a normal qwerty keyboard with a locket key number on the baord. Can anyone suggest how I do for this comes back to normal please.

  You probably have a laptop.  This symbol tells you that the 'NumLocks' are currently enabled.  On a standard keyboard, this will change the keypad type numbers to type arrows (more, end House, PG. prev, PAGE down, etc.).  On a laptop computer, this causes the keys with numbers above/below them (j, k, l, etc.) for typing numbers instead of letters.

  Simply tap the NumLock key to change this setting.

  Okay, so you didn't get very far in the installation.

  Here's how to reset a forgotten password.

  Do you have a backup before the upgrade, such as a time Machine backup?   (Keychain is not containing the administrative password, unfortunately.)   You remove the login keychain, all stored passwords in Safari and in fact be lost.)   If you have, I would recover the set of connection from there.

  If you don't have a current backup, it's the first think you get.

  There could be a problem with the disk or of protection structure, or with the disc itself.    Creating a new keychain cannot be blocked, short error permissions or a drive problem.    Disk utility and check the drive and see if there is something to do.   (Unfortunately, some of these steps require an administrative password.)   You can try the repairs or a backup to disk by booting from the recovery partition - that won't require no administrative privileges - and attempt a repair or recovery from here, or save the entire drive disk external work.
