Search for Windows 7, privitazing a folder

I know it's a strange thing to do, but there is a folder/directory (and its content), I wanted to so that other users:

  1. Do not (or content)
  2. Do not (or content)
  3. Cannot open it (or content)
  4. It (or its content) cannot be displayed as a search result

Could you give a little more detail please account how the system is implemented?

"Other users" share an account or an account each?

If all your 'other users' are at a level of separate standard user account, they should not be able to see your files and folders anyway unless share you them.

If all your 'other users' are at a level of administrator account, then I doubt there is that you can do that would hide them to another admin user who wanted to watch.

If everyone's admin, or all share the same account, you can try to hide the folders but that will not help much as admins can see that and you might reach 3 and 4 by installing something like TrueCrypt and keep the password file encrypted to yourself. * DO NOT FORGET THE PASSWORD *.

  • Help? A matter of search for Windows 7...

I need to do a search for - only - hidden files or folders.  I know I can put Explorer "Show hidden files and folders", but it shows - all files, not just those with the hidden attribute.  I don't want to go through every file on my machine to pick them up.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks :)

We cannot directly use Windows 7 search to generate a list of items with a specified attribute.  We can however in the command prompt.  Or, a third option is to use another software of research that is out there that allows searching by attribute.

If using Windows 7 search, search using other properties you want, and then set the results window to display the named attributes column.  (You can specify the columns of information appear - just right-click on any column title to display a menu, then click more... for a list.)  Move the pointer of the mouse on the title attributes column and button click the arrow that appears to the right of the title.  Click to put check marks in the boxes to the left of the desired attributes and combinations of attributes in the list of choices that appears.

Alternatively, with search for Windows 7, you can search with the attributes property, but oddly only by a numeric code that represents the sum of all the attributes of a file could have.  Looking for attributes: 2 will give you all the files that have the hidden only attribute and no other attributes, but because the files can have several attributes, there are numerous possible different amounts you would search too so it isn't practical.

With a command prompt window, you can navigate the directory (folder or disk) that you want to search in (if you are familiar with the tricks of MS-DOS) and enter:

    dir / a: h/s/b > results.txt

to create a file named results.txt in the current directory.  Leave aside the/s if you do not want the included subdirectories in the search.  Leave aside the/b (naked format) If you want to see the date, time, size and the information summarized for each file.

Other software from research that can search by specified attribute includes:

  • Search for Windows 7, why not if give me the files that are not yet in my augument search?

Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit OS.

Have a lot of files are duplicated.

In Windows 7 lets say the files in the folder have files that look like:

    Bill 120.le rar
    Bill 121, rar
    Bill 1 .rar

and we want to remove duplicates with '(1) '.
and we enter research * (*)

Under XP it would only list the file: Bill 1 .rar IF you entered *(*.)  or *) * or (1), etc.

    Bill 1 .rar

In Windows 7, since I started to use Win 7 years, everything I do is get frustrited when it will sometimes give me what I ask for the Bill 1 .rar.
but most of the time like now, will give me ALL the files WITH and WITHOUT the "()".

    Bill 120.le rar
    Bill 121, rar
    Bill 1 .rar

WHY?  and how can he give me what I asked?

(I tried ALL the settings and they all do the same thing)

    Enter in the search box:

    name: ~ = "{}"

The ~ = indicates to Windows 7 search to look anywhere in the name.  Usually, the quotes would not be needed, but( ) has a functional use of search for Windows 7, and the quotes tell Windows 7 search just deal with ( ) as a chararacter.  I tried to find a way to search for a (?), after? as a wildcard but couldn't.  [Update: solution concludes, at the end of the post]  However, you can enter this to search for files named with the two ( and ), but not necessarily appearing in the (#) form.

    nom : ~ = "(" nom : ~ = "")" »

    or more compactly,

    nom : (~ = "(" ~ = "")" »)

Update: more than a month later, I realized the more compactly.  Subsequently, the? is interpreted as a wildcard character.  If more digits is possible, then additional search with? exactly two for? for exactly three and so on.

    Name: ~ "* (?) *"

If filename: is used instead, then the tilde is redundant:

    filename: "* (?)" *"

I tried something and found the file I am looking. I want to delete this folder (and not only its contents) and perhaps other things in its parent. Anywho, I click on this file the research and then try to go to the top. First instinct, button up. Well this isn't here, it's just old habit. Expect the little whole bread crumbs. Only brings me back to my research... why I want to get back to my research if I found what I'm looking for.

Good, well maybe I'm missing something. * click * Search right up to a level or something. Nada. The only way that I can know where I am is by clicking on a file then go to its properties.

Sorry, but that's all just bad design. I'll admit that maybe miss me something again, please someone help me.

    Hello

When you search for a file or folder in Windows Explorer, the path to the location of each result must be shown just below found the folder or file. Here is a screenshot.

    http://i196.Photobucket.com/albums/aa86/rvmv/searchresults.PNG

If you have points of view icon selected, click on the change your view drop-down menu in the top-right of the window, and then select display list, details, tiles or content (the screenshot has selected content).

Research is a stand-alone that creates a virtual folder that displays the results. There is no part of the folder hierarchy, unless you save the search.

If you click one of the results and select the location of the open folder, it will take you to the folder where the item.

To navigate from in any particular file:

To go to the TOP, press Alt + up arrow.

To display the path to your current location, click on an empty spot in the address bar.

Click the arrow to the right of any folder in the address bar and the Parent folder appears in bold text.

    I hope this helps.

    Hello
You can follow the steps and then check.

    Step 1:
You can try to disable the antivirus installed on your computer software.
You can see the following link.
    Disable the anti-virus software
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Step 2:
You can try to reset the Windows Update components. Read the following article.
How to reset the Windows Update components?
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058

    It will be useful.
  • Search for Windows 7 can't find partial matches - when will it be fixed or is there a workaround?

Windows (in Windows 7 and Vista) search will find only a partial file name (and the file content I guess) match if the text is the beginning of the string. He won't find a string in a file (the file content?) name. This diminshes greatly the value of research and thought that he would have been treated here.

    Example:

    I have a file named invoicenumber12345.doc
If I search on invoicenumber file appears in the results. If I look on number12345, 12345 or any other subset of characters that appear in the name I get nothing.

It is therefore impossible to find files based on partial knowledge.

    Example:

I know that I have sent a letter to Joe Smith, but I can't because I named the file lettertojoesmith.doc
Due to the limitation of the search, if I'm not rememer the exact file name (or at least that it starts with "letterto", I couldn't find - then what is research?) Through structure file names so that you know how to find totally defeated RESEARCH capacity.

Does anyone know when this limitation will be addressed or whether there is a solution?

You can use wildcards like? and *.
In your case: search for * 12345 or * joe * smith.

In fact, it is more flexible that a simple search on partial file names.
