Security issues for XP Pro to format hard drive in a Vista Home Premium computer

My laptop was running XP Pro.  A few days ago, I accidentally spilled a glass of water on it and the computer died.  I took apart an old external 2.5 drive I had and inserted the laptop drive so that I could recover the files from my laptop.  The other computer in the House is the Office of my wife in Vista Home Premium.  Here's my problem:

The Vista computer will read the reader very well except for the fact that I can't access many of my files due to the security clearance.  I understood that in Vista, I can take possession, but so far, I figured out how to make it only one file at a time.  For example, I took possession of a record, but then I had to take care of the folders inside this folder, and then I had to take possession of individual files inside this folder.  Even when I try to open a Word document that I have to go through the security process complete to open it.

Is it possible for me to have access to everything by changing some settings in Vista.  Finally, I'm going to buy a new laptop, and I need to transfer all my files to it.  I don't want to have to get clearance for thousands of files one at a time.  Help, please.

Thank you

Derrick

It is more permissions that it owns.  I guess almost all of the files to copy are in the Documents and settings folder.  So give yourself permissions to full right for all files and folders and subfolders of this folder (both in the main section and in particular advanced section - and don't forget to check the box to include all the files and subdirectories).  That should do the trick.

If you are still having problems - maybe these can help you get through them, here is more information about permissions and ownership:

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista:http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/. To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To solve this problem with folders, folders takeownership or the reader (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html. To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

  • FAT32 formatting for 500 GB Seagate external hard drive using Windows Vista

How to format FAT32 file system for 500 GB Seagate external hard drive using Windows Vista?

    Hi MVRMVR,

Windows will work generally only format a drive in FAT 32 if it has a capacity of 32GB, no more. To format in FAT32, Yes, would need to create multiple partitions. This, of course, you don't want to do.

I have not tried to format a large drive in FAT 32 but I guess that any third-party partitioning software (Acronis, Paragon etc.) would be able to do it without any problem. Alternatively you can do it from the Windows command prompt. For more details, see the link below:

  • Performance index Windows CPU drops with new hard drive installed on Windows Home Premium 64 bit.

Hello world. I have a Toshiba laptop with Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit. 1 GB of GPU, 6 GB of ram, Intel i7 Q740 1.73 GHz. operating system has been pre-installed.

The old hard drive was 600 GB 5400 RPM 8 MB Cache. The new disk of 1 TB 7200 RPM 32 MB Cache. With the old drive the cpu had index of the 7.1. With the new disc, he fell to 5.6. all the other components even rated the two discs. Both discs have a 512th form. Searched everywhere for an answer and would like an answer, cause im very curious and puzzled. Health perfect new drive using disk setiniel and crystal HD... info old drive had bad sectors, but cpu always valued at 7.1. If someone can answer, I would be very grateful.

    SV

WEI is a completely arbitrary number and because it has been eliminated in the 8 win & win 10.  I would not be concerned about the number unless your computer is actually slower.  Your hard drive has nothing to do with the rating of the CPU.

    1. click Start allprograms,Accessories, System Tools folder and Disk Cleanup

2 check the photos and click OK.
NOTE: Cache view the size of your thumbnail. More browsing, it can make.

3 click delete files button on the confirmation window.

4 disk cleanup will now clear thumbnail cache and close.

This should clear up your tiles and once you access the program again the cache database will be recreated with the right thumb nail (we hope).

  • A hard time with the drivers for Vista Home Premium computer laptop computer network with Windows 7

OK, I've read tons of information on that and I'm stumped.  I have an Epson Stylus CX6600 all-in-one printer.  I have my Windows vista Home premium networking with my 64-bit Windows 7 computer.  I go to the step where the machine Vista attempts to connect to the printer on the network, then it asks a driver.  The driver file is already on the vista machine.  I installed the latest drivers from Microsoft and epson on the Windows 7 machine and he always asks a driver.  Can someone point me to the exact file name and the location of the driver in the vista vista machine so I can simply copy and point to it my windows machine 7.  I did the updates from Microsoft to get all the latest drivers.  Thank you.

You do not install the Vista drivers on Windows 7 computer.

  • The contract of affreightment for my VISTA Home Premium 32 bit [oem] will work for VISTA Ultimate OEM Dell disk shape.

Mine has the Express Vista Upgrade Help Express upgrade DVD from Dell for Vista Home Premium 32 bit in March 2007. [XP to Vista was a promotion at the time]. I did a clean install of vista Home Premium 32-bit using the DVD upgrade at that time here.

Now, I got Dell VISTA 64-bit DVD to reinstall [Dell Rep told me that she did not have the Vista Home Premium 64-bit and is - this okay for me to receive the DVD of reinstalling Vista Ultimate 64 bit-for which I accepted]

Resettlement 64bits Ultimate DVD arrived today, in an envelope. I can't find a certificate of authenticity [COA] inside. However the sleeve that wrote this about the following:

"The Microsoft certificate of authenticity [COA] operating system is a multicolored label located on the side or the bottom of your computer. The certificate of Authenticity contains the product key code, which may be needed to complete the installation of the operating system. »

Now where's position? Can I go ahead with my clean install of Vista Ultimate 64 bit with the disc I received after formatting my drive where my Vista Home Premium 32-bit far is present.

I am owner of a single computer in the home environment.

    Snow

As Dell-Jesse has already been said, "COA at the back of the system is ONLY for Vista 32 and 64 bits and NOT Vista Ultimate or business House. Computers Dell will not have a certificate of authenticity if you use the Dell supplied DVD on a Dell computer. The bios detects that it is a Dell disk and a Dell system and is not a certificate of authenticity'.» Good luck with the new OS!

  • Hard drive crashed. You need to activate Vista Home Premium.

    Mick,

My Gateway laptop hard drive crashed. I bought the new hard drive and installed Vista Home Premium with the recovery disk came with the laptop. After you have installed the software it tells me that I need to activate it. It asks for a product key, but one that came with the laptop is dissipated down. I can't read the product key. So, how can I activate the operating system if it stops telling me to activate it. I wouldn't have to pay for another key because I already paid for it. Any help would be appreciated.

  • need to reestall premiun House of recovery in a blank formatted hard drive disks

I have a sony vgn-n320e with a new Virgin hard drive formatted and need to reinstall vista Home premium from recovery disks

    Hello

Recovery disk cannot be used to install an operating system. You can perform repairs to the files that Windows uses to start itself, perform a restore operation using System Restore, and restore your computer in its entirety and the filesystem using backups that you have made previously.

You need a Windows Vista installation disc to install it.
