Select only visible objects in Illustrator...

I exported some 3D models of Cinema 4 d and I'm cleaning them in Illustrator.

Unfortunately, the problem inherent in the export of 3D models is that each polygon/face is one exported as a separate object.

I need to use the Scout to consolidate each pollygon into more manageable objects to paint... but it's really annoying that I have to zoom, and then select each poloygon I want to group it with the pathfinder tool.

It would be much easier that I could set the selection tool to select only the objects visible... or rather objects which are not covered by other objects.

Is it possible to narrow the selection in this way, when you drag an area of selection on a group of items.

Any help would be much apreciated.

Thank you!

OK, I solved my problem and I am posting this to totally want to chance that somone else trying to do the same thing

in order to get the kind of selectablilty you want to...

  • first go into your 3d software and chop your 3d model in groups you want, combined using the pathfinder, once you export to illustrator
  • Then, assign a different texture to those cut color groups so your 3d model is mainly coded in color
  • then export the model with the backfaces shot if you do not export pollygons used to be visible on the final artwork
  • one time exported, open in illustrator, using the magic wand tool to select the color of the faces groups and combine it with the pathfinder

This process will take the required number of clickes to simplify your illustration of about 1500 clicks, at about 7

worth.

    In AutoCAD, my main program, you simply draw a window selection, left or right, depending on what your next step would be. No special tools or rocking or thinking, that's just the selection primary process and very intuitive.

    I posted a discussion on the Illustrator forum several months ago, which still arouses comments so this seems to be a tool that would be appreciated by many users. Someone posted a script but it has not worked for me yet.

    Thank you for everything that you can do to solve this problem.

    This is a copy of my last post of the original thread. I found some discussions confused because I have no experience in writing or by using scripts. So I copied all the recommendations in a document to read without the comments and digressions. After several hours and a lot of searching on Google I found what solution adapted to my goal, which was a selection process fast and simple with fewer steps to use.

    So, I think I have this job. The following is what I did:

    1 copy the script by Carlos Canto post #11 here:

    http://forums.Adobe.com/thread/856221?start=0&TSTART=0

    2. open the ExtendScript Toolkit Utilities > Adobe utilities - CS5.5 > ExtendScript Toolkit CS5.5 > ExtendScript Toolkit CS5.5.App

    3. when the program opens, paste the script in the large Panel on the left.

    4. then go to file > save as.

    5. that the dialog box click on the arrow next to the save box slot to expand the section options.

    6. next, go to Applications > Adobe Illustrator CS5.1 > Presets > en_US > Scripts.

    7. then, in the Save as box enter a name to identify the script (I named mine Window1).

    8. click on save and close the Toolbox.

    Launch Illustrator and open a drawing.

    1 using the rectangle tool, I drew a rectangle around the objects.

    2. make sure that the new rectangle is selected.

    3. I went to file > Scripts > Window1.

    4A got an error message - error 8705: target layer cannot be changed 25-> iart.selected + true line:

    Oops, you must have ALL unlocked layers.

    5. you click OK.

    6 unlocked all the layers.

    7. my new activated rectangle.

    8. went to file > Scripts > Window1.

    9 here! Items in the rectangle are selected and the rectangle is removed.

    So yes, this script works as requested. Thank you, Carlos.

    I discovered that my question above is a non issue. A user has triggered by watching the below article on Illustrator 2014 17.0.2 cc

    http://helpx.Adobe.com/Illustrator/release-note/Illustrator-17-0-2-release-notes.html

    He had recently improved to wht, we know now is 18.0 to 18.1, which is the latest version. He has read the foregoing artic

    the and assumed that it was a version of fixed a bug for its version - as the number of ov18 v17 is not displayed. It is usually just 2014 CC.

    I asked him to post a bug report on Adobe Illustrator CC 20141

  • By selecting only visible layers

    I'm a novice scripter, trying to find a way to hide all the layers in a document.  The document contains hundreds of layers so by selecting all and then hide everything takes far too long to run.  Is it a way to simlply button hide all or select only the layers which are visible and can hide?

    Here's a way to disable all visibility of layers...

    //select top layer
    activeDocument.activeLayer = activeDocument.layers[0];

    //toggle all other layers visibility off
    toggleVisability();

    //toggle this layers visibility off
    activeDocument.activeLayer.visible=false;

    //This function is the same as Alt/Click on a layers eye
    function toggleVisability() {
    var desc = new ActionDescriptor();
    var list1 = new ActionList();
    var ref = new ActionReference();
    ref.putEnumerated( charIDToTypeID('Lyr '),charIDToTypeID('Ordn'),charIDToTypeID('Trgt') );
    list1.putReference( ref );
    desc.putList( charIDToTypeID('null'), list1 );
    desc.putBoolean( charIDToTypeID('TglO'), true );
    executeAction( charIDToTypeID('Shw '), desc, DialogModes.NO );

  • How to save only VISIBLE objects in artificial intelligence in jpeg or Pdf format.

    I have several layers but do not want to save objects of items currently visible on in PDF or JPEG.

    How can I do this without having to laboriously double-click each layer and choose "do not print' (layer).

    It would be nice to have a preference in prefs 'not print hidden layers'.

    OK, I just realized the problem, each layer of higher level in artificial intelligence has been save to the PDF file (even if hidden or invisible) because I ""create acrobat layers from top-level layers " checked in the PDF file save dialog down." When unchecked visible layers only record.

  • In Illustrator CS5, how can I select only objects * joint * by an area of selection?

    ... rather that all objects that intersect with it?  CorelDraw x 4, for example, the default value for the Pick (the primary selection tool) tool must choose all objects in the selected area.  This is extremely useful when working with vector graphics produced in other programs (e.g. Matlab) that do not already have their structured in layers of vector objects.

    I apologize if this question has been asked before, or is trivial - I'm relatively new to Illustrator.

    Thanks for any help.

    You can't do it natively, I wrote a script to work around the problem, repeat, a workaround solution, see post # 11

    How to select only the objects in a marquee?

  • selection of objects in illustrator

    I do some very specific changes to a batch of images and not to find the best way to speed up the process.

    Here is my method:

    Place an image in illustrator, use the vectorization (6 colors) and expand.

    Now I want to select only the objects in a particular area, which is a triangle, invert the selection, and delete everything outside the shape.

    I found a way to reduce the images with my triangle by adding the selection to the live paint function before expanding.

    I am importing these objects in a CAD program, so it's important that I have actually to delete the rest of the objects, instead of just them, masking because they are always there when I import to my CAD program.

    In addition to individually by selecting and by removing the objects that I don't need, is there a way to instantly choose?

    Is there a way to select all the objects in my triangle shape, or select all objects in a form?  You select the same fill color, etc. will not work because the work inside and outside of my triangle are the same colors.

    I also tried first cropping the image to my triangle shape personalized with photoshop before importing it in illustrator, but I can't seem to find a way to do it without producing unwanted results.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Vectorization and exapnd. Place the triangle on the top of the trace function that covers what you want to keep.

    Select all, Pathfinder > Crop. This will remove all outside the object (triangle).

  • Clear the selection of the object by the effects

    CS6 when you apply an effect that develops somewhat the appearance of an object, for example by several clones, all of these clones becomes selectable.  If you click on or drag-box, an area that includes these clones, the original object will be selected.

    I find this very annoying - is there a way to make CS6 select only an object if I click on the original vectors?

  • Is it possible to only select the visible layers to copy/paste in place.

    Hello!

    I must be missing something.  In Adobe Illustrator, when you select a layer (or Sub-layer) to copy, is it possible to copy only visible layers and not those hidden?

    When I provide my clients with their final illustrator files, I only want to register the approved artwork.  Currently, I make a copy of the file and go through and delete hidden files, it would be much easier to copy and paste in place visible layers in an Adobe illustrator file.

    Thank you!

    Given that your items are grouped, select objects on the artboard should be as effective as Select layers in the layer panel.

    You will not be able to resolve this layer-selection-irritation. Happened for some versions. You might consider to report it as a bug.

    The link that I used to post on these occasions no longer works. Google sent me this one, I hope it works for you:

  • error on the selection of object in ILLUSTRATOR CC

    Hi all, I have problem with object selection in illustrator CC, when I select the current object it will also choose the other object, I can not select the object I want, not on the group or the clipping mask... always to highlight both. It often happen when I've done so vector object. any help from you guys is so appreciated...

    Thank you

    Creig

    It happened through so many versions that I remember most when I met first it.

    One thing works only occasionally when you get such a choice of "ghost";

    Create another object (a small square or other).

    Select it. Your new object and spirit will be selected at this point.

    Align using one of the alignment buttons, any.

    Immediately cancel the move (Cmnd/Ctrl + z) and deselect your new object. On the nine times out of ten the ghost selection will be gone as well. If so, you can remove your superfluous object and continue to work (until next time).

    It does not always work. But it is faster than a reboot when it does.

  • Replace in selected only layers layer names

    I use this script to find and replace words in layers. (The script targets only particular words, rather than the entire layer name).

    I would like to do so it targets only the selected layers.

    hasSelectedArtwork

    Value type

    Boolean

    If true, an object in this layer has been selected; set to false to deselect all objects in the layer.

    So, as I have spoken here:

    Fix. Yes there is no direct way unfortunately (like many things through script), that's why I suggested using "hasSelectedArtwork", that might work if you select the target layer in the choice of your layers you want to rename.

    and...

    Who would offer a way of knowing whether a layer is selected.

    As far as I know that is the only round about way to know if a layer is selected via the script.

  • Distortion of the envelope at the center of the only possible object?

    Distortion of the envelope at the center of the only possible object?

    Hey, can someone please give me a tip how to achieve the effect shown in the picture? If not with Illustrator what software can make effect?

    kitolos.jpg

    It's like an envelope distort but as the object (small circles) is not entirely wrapped up in the envelope.

    I tried to move the corners of the envelope applied toward the center of the object, but it resizes the entire shape with her...

    Set up the pattern to peas (or whatever is the art)

    Choose object > envelope distort > make with mesh

    Enter the 2 rows and 2 columns , and then click OK

    This will add 1 mesh point at the center of the work.

    Use the Direct Selection tool (white arrow) to select only that point Center mesh.

    Double-click the scale tool and enter a value greater than 100% in the uniform field.

  • Triggered by a selection of hidden objects

    How do hide you an object that is seen only when triggered by the selection of another object?  Which means, if I click on the checkbox, then only I see the fields to enter an address?  But if the box is never verified, then this address field is never visible.

    Ah, I see.  My script was using the Javascript syntax.  One option is to modify the scripts of language in the drop down in the JavaScript script editor, which will fix your syntax error.

    Or you can use the script below equivalent which is updated for FormCalc

    If ($.rawValue == '1') then

    TextField10.presence = "visible".

    on the other

    TextField10.presence = "hidden".

    endif

    They are different languages with different syntax.  FormCalc the equivalent of 'this' is ' $'.  Also, you will notice the syntax 'if' requires the keyword "do" and requires closing "endif" keyword as well.

    that should fix things.

  • Decomposition of objects in Illustrator

    Hello

    I am addressing you pour to understand the functioning of the decomposition of objects in Illustrator (CS5).

    It is that plug-in often the function 'Distortion and transformation-> Transformation' from the appearance Panel pour an object.

    I said that-ins Illustrator for scientific purposes, so a file can still be bringing to be changed. This is why I try to always keep a file built in a form such as the changes to aspects or forms of objects can be quickly realized.

    Either I draw an object (say, a circle), I want to replicate both horizontally and vertically. The "Transformation" function I applied then four times pay replicate (12 times) the object in the four cardinal directions. At this point I have a network of circles. The advantage of this technique is that if I want to change the size and appearance of the replications, I don't act only on the original path.

    At this point the file Illustrator becomes very large (why, I'm naïve), that's why I copy and apply a decomposition of aspect of my replica ('object-> decompose aspect') trace.

    The problem takes place now. Illustrator know manage objects a lot, and with replication of the original circle that I drew, I would expect to have 576 objects (24 * 24). Instead of this, I have many more decomposed objects that pour most are unnecessary copies. For example, the central object (the original path) contains his only 576 copy him even, and this is similar pay other surrounding replicas. Naturally, extra copies are useless and load Illustrator, making it almost inoperable.

    So, how does the option of decomposition of aspect? The problem can quickly be seen by using a single replication feature.

    Either a vertical one replica 10 times on the right and then 10 times on the left. After decomposition of aspect on aura 1 appearance of the end, then this number increases pour have 10 occurrences of the trace of the base.

    I notice that this problem appears that TR on use several functions of transformation of the appearance Panel. If one function is used, the decomposition of aspect works perfectly.

    Kudos to the brave who had the strength to read until here :-).

    Greetings to all,

    Edgar

    Edgar,

    If I (put) understand, you just need to use effect > Distort & Transform > transformation twice and setting the number of copy to 1 less than the number desired in each direction (horizontally) and 23 back and forth if you want to end up with a total of 24 both directions, 576 total.

    In other words, from the object at one of the corners rather than in the middle. You can move the game as you want to get in the right place,

    With the first transformation, you get copies of the original object, with then one you get copies of the original and the first series of copies.

    Anything beyond that will give you a mess of copies on top of the other.
