Unable to boot from a CD

Greetings.

I recently had to replace the hard drive of my iMac to 2012 due to a failure of the original hard drive from catrastrophic. Unfortunately, in doing so, of course, I have to do a complete reinstall of the OS x. Unfortunately, when I try to make a recovery of the internet, I can get to the point where he wants me to install OS X 10.4, but as he was pulled from the App Store, I can not download it. As a result, I tried a DVD of 10.4 installation, which recognizes in disk utility, the system, but does not count when I try to set it as the startup disk or press C on start up.

All of my ideas as to where I have to go then? Do a clean installation of the operating system shouldn't be this difficult.

Thank you!

Correction of the foregoing (for some reason that I can't edit my post). In any case, I'm trying to download 10.7, but get the message "an error occurred during the preparation of the installation. Try to rerun this application".  As a result, I then tried to use a DVD 10.4 without result.

The trick to this is to use a utility that will make your USB boot EFI and MBR.

The UEFI boot sequence does not take too kindly to optical drives. It is best to make a USB bootable using Rufus:

  • Unable to boot from screen HP INVENT - my head is going to explode

    Hello!

I have a Slimline s3600t with 1 TB seagate, 4 gigabytes of ram harddrive.

Less then a month after the warranty expires, normal shutdown.  The next day, turn on and cannot get passed the hp invent screen blue.  The keyboard would not work.  After several conversations with hp cat and internet research, these are things I've done:

    All Unplugged

    All reinstalled

    Tested memory

Reset the cmos, replace the battery

Discovered that the only way to go beyond the blue screen is to unplug the computer, remove the battery, hold the power button, put everything back together and turn on the computer.  Then and only then I can hit the boot from the disc.  I use a recovery disk to boot on the windows form.

I ran the diagnostics of equipment, everything goes very well, except that I get a code BIOHD-6.

I ran a disk check hard seagate, everything is fine.

I was told that the code is a question of operating system.  Then I was told that my hard drive was bad.  Ran to my hard drive on another computer.  Booted up without issuees.

I ran a recovery of the entire system of recovery disks that I've done since the Recovery Manager.  Did not help the problem.

I ordered a full recovery from hp and used ones, and that did not help the problem.

Replace a cable between the hard drive and the motherboard.

Running out of tricks.  Ready to simply start screaming as has happened for two weeks now!

Thanks for any help and suggestions, you can provide!

Finally pc holds the repair shop... motherboard (Irvine) needs to be replaced.  Although he lasted exactly one month after the warranty!

In the meantime, it's what I do if I want to use this computer:

    Unplug it

    remove the cmos battery

Press the button for 20-30 seconds

    put the battery in

    Plug it in

    turn it on

Press ESC until I see or hear start

Let him go through all it's stages

Choose the disk drive - disk are not necessarily present

    Press enter

If the above doesn't happen right away I cleaned the battery connection, used the rider, reinstall memory

It sometimes takes a while before the leak thing

I don't shut it down or restart unless absolutely necessary.

Now, before that I am never at this point, I ran every test possible, tried all the tricks possible.  I knew that it wasn't the drive hard because it worked in another computer. I reinstalled everything.  Things removed, replaced, etc. things.  When I could finally do no more, I took it.  I'm going to replace the motherboard when I can.  In the meantime, I will continue starting in the manner above.

Not like HP at this stage.  First of all, the card mother he would have lasted longer then a year.  We bought HP because we had a good experience.  I hesitate to do it again.  In addition, experience cat, although polite, not very useful.  Various responses and, in spite of the codes, unable to decipher on their end.  I was told that my hard drive was bad.  Ran Seagates trials, met with seagate (very useful), used on another computer... certainly not the hard drive.  Basically HP's attitude was "warranty expired? too bad for you. "  Also, when they said it was a hard drive problem, they said that they would not cover it... After going to seagates website and speak with a representative, I have guaranteed discovered seagate he spend the 1 year contract.

It is regrettable that I had this experience, but I see I'm not the only one.  Not sure where I'm going here, but I can't afford to replace my computer... or the motherboard also.

There is one thing, however, that I am grateful... dedicated and it is this Council!  Thank you all for your help and your suggestions.  Which was very appreciated!

  • Portege Z30-C-10N is unable to boot from PXE - boot MSC mode required

    Hello

I received a trial Z30 - C - 10N Toshiba to test our image deployment with. We use SCCM via PXE boot to deploy our images but unfortunately the laptop cannot boot from PXE, even after trying different methods of boot (secure boot is disabled). After doing some research on Google, many people say that the CSM boot mode is necessary, but it is not available in the current BIOS on the Z30 - C.

So I just wonder is there plans to release a BIOS update soon with added support boot CSM?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Russ

I believe THAT CSM is in the latest version of the BIOS.
Updated the BIOS and see how it goes.

  • Elitbook revolution 810 G2: unable to boot from USB Elitbook turn 810 G2

    Hello

Initially, I bought 810 rotate with 8.1 Pro window.

I've recently upgraded to 64-bit Pro 10 Windows.

The problem is that I can not boot from USB. Computer recognizes the USB drive but when I click F9 and enter in bootmode... He acknowledges as "drive hard usb ' but when I select it... it has no effect and does not start.

Could someone help me solve the problem? I need to be able to boot from USB drive...

    Thank you

Windows 10 64-bit with UEFI can only boot from a GPT partition. It may be that your boot USB drive is partitioned as MBR [Master Boot Record] and should be partitioned GPT [Table of Partition GUID] for UEFI.

Create bootable USB key with UEFI support

  • Equium A100 - unable to boot from the bootable disc

    Equium A100-549

My son s partner has a 2 year old Toshiba which has become slow over time. I had done a backup of the system with office installed etc using Acronis. Anyway, decided to rid running Acronis and recorded image. The program runs normally, and he falls down to a denial of service as the ready to restore screen. It is then with the cursor flashing as usual and then it crashes, and doesn't allow you to access the image.

I am that it can be altered, so reinstalled Acronis. Make an Acronis boot disk to run the image, and he does not take into account the disk boots directly to the normal hard drive (IDE 0) still no joy. Then I tried the restore of laptops disc. In the BIOS, I said peripheral CD as everything first and also the restore disc says place in the drive and turn off.

While it starts up press F12, which brings a menu allowing you to boot from the CD drive. I did, but it doesn t appear to look at the CD and just load windows from the HARD drive. I removed the CD for system devices and rebooted. He found and added the new device to herself and asked to reset. Still no joy!

Scanned with Norton, but still not good. Norton removal. The result is the same. Able to read the CD and also write to it as well. Diagnosis Toshibas ran on the unit and everything seems ok with it.

Tried to make a bootable flash stick on floppy, but it is ignored, well specified the amorçage using other devices.
Basically, it seems that I can t get it to watch prior CD onto the HARD drive.

Flashing the BIOS would heal it? -Registry error causes this?

Y at - it everywhere where I can talk to someone from Toshiba about this?

Any info / help much appreciated

    Hello Nick

Put the delivered device DVD recovery DVD and turn on the laptop. Press the C button and keep it pressed for a few seconds. This will force the DVD player to read the DVD, and I hope that you will be able to use the DVD of recovery for the installation of the OS.

If possible, test it with some other bootable CD installations. Please post the results.

  • Unable to boot from USB or ODD after that windows 8.1 update on P850 - 31L

    Hello

    I just updated a P850 - 31L for windows windows 8.1 8 by the windows store.

Before the update, I was able to boot from a USB key by pressing F12 during the boot upward.

After the update I was more able to boot from the USB drive. Select the USB key by changing the boot order in the setup of the BIOS via F2 or pressing F12 is no longer works.

Booting from ODD also is no longer possible.

The version of the BIOS is 6.70 and does not secure boot must be disabled. However the DVD and the USB I tried are signed Ubuntu 12.10, who worked before the upgrade. Fastboot in windows 8.1 is disabled.

Then, this seems to be a bug in the BIOS Toshiba? Or a windows 8.1 update the BIOS or the boot EFI in a way partition replace the BIOS setting? Really stuck here, does not seem to be much information.

Any ideas or help would be very appreciated!

    Thank you

    Michael

Update: I just tried to boot from the DVD of windows recovery 8 Toshiba and this does more or the other.

    Post edited by: michael_toshiba_forum

    OK I fixed that.

First of all, it is to note that it is possible to turn off secure in the 6.70 BIOS startup.
However this option is only available when the password is not defined in the Security menu.

After activation or deactivation of the password a reboot is necessary to make the secure boot toggle option is available or not.

It's good that I guess I assume that it can prevent secure boot are disabled when the machine is running. However this does not seem to have been associated with this problem.

I selected the option "reset to factory defaults" in the output menu.
The machine is then able to boot from USB and DVD. The boot order was also respected.

Perhaps upgrading windows 8.1 corrupt invisible somehow the BIOS settings. Or maybe it was just a stranage coincidence that the BIOS itself corrupted during the installation. Anyway this factory reset fixed.

You need to first boot the bootable disc using a bootable diskette floppy drive!
Then a driver would be loaded that allows you to boot from the CD/DVD drive

    Akuma explained already!

As far as I know that the CD of your laptop is hot swappable (change of disk CD) without turning off readers with Bay exchangeable are perhaps available on ebay and your operating system should already have the drivers or go to the manufacturer s website and download them.

  • Satellite 5100 503: unable to boot from the CD drive

    Hey all,.

I have a HUGE problem with my 5100-503 Satellite.

Windows XP connects and then it disconnects right away.

    I found a fix for this at: [url] http://www.mcse.ms/message616432.html {/ url}

The problem is that I can not boot from a cd, because the BIOS is configured to boot from the hard drive first.

I get into the BIOS. I read on a few websites on the net than on machines 5xxx Satellite, you can only enter the bios through windows! ..., BUT windows does not work so I can't enter the bios. I can't even use the Windows installation CD when I boot, because once again the HD is set to boot first.

When I press ESC while turning on the laptop and then press F1, I have the option load default BIOS values. I did, but the HD is still set to start first!

What I can do... I can't reinstall windows or get into regedit to fix the paper / log problem!

    Help!

    Hi Jamie,

Normally, you can select a boot device selection menu when you turn on your laptop. You can do this by holding down the F12 key when you turn on. Hold it down until the phone beeps or the device selection menu appears.

If this does not work then you can try the shortened Toshiba habit that is to hold the 'C' button in the power that would then cause the laptop to boot from the CD drive. Of course, there must be a bootable CD inserted first.

    Kind regards

    Hi @HPlaptop51,.

Thanks for the HP forums post!

I read your post and wanted to help. I understand you want to boot from a USB drive on your 15 HP - af131dx. Please try to access the boot device Options and select boot from USB drive.

To access the Boot Device Options, turn on the computer and immediately press ESC to display the Start Menu and press the F9 key. The USB key may not appear in the menu of Boot Device at all, unless these an optical disk drive or USB drive is turned on, plugged in and holds a bootable media source.

I suggested RUFUS and EFI create setup of windows due to the startup problem, that you have with the Elitebook 840.

It may be just what you need for this particular laptop.

If you want this to work, then you must be flexible and willing to solve the problems.
