Selling retail or OEM?

I'm having some problems with my motherboard and so I thought to upgrade. I've heard how if I have an OEM of Windows 7 version, I have to buy another copy of Windows. For the moment, I can't turn on my computer. So, how can I know if the version of Windows 7 that I use now is OEM or retail?

Is there a Windows 7 COA sticker that is attached to the machine? If there is, it would mean, he came up with an OEM license.

    Hello

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.
Unfortunately, Windows Vista is not available for sales that Windows Vista has been replaced by Windows 7 and Windows 8 (mainstream support ended on April 10, 2012). As a result, he was arrested in SP1. But, the extended support is available until 2017, then you can find updates and SP2 is a part of this update.
  • How to tell if Windows is for sale at retail or OEM?

I'm looking to install a new motherboard and processor in my PC, but I was told that the license for Windows 7 is assigned to the motherboard, so if I have an OEM version it will not work with the new parts. Unfortunately I lost my Windows 7 disc, if I still have the product key and product ID. Can someone tell me how I would know if my version is retail or OEM please? I heard that the OEM letters appear in the product ID, if it's an OEM version (which is not in my case), is that correct? Finally, as I have lost the disc, can I download a copy of Windows 7 and use my product key?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I currently have an OEM Windows XP Professional. I would like to buy a commercial version of the operating system even.

I found so far is MSCD71428WI. Is this a full retail version? I can't find this information...

    Thank you in advance,

    Hi Koldunic,

Thanks for posting. After doing a search on the web, it seems that this Reference is a commercial version. However I would contact the dealer for any questions about the product before buying.

After the hoops and installation of the final image MGADiag.exe shows product Type ID as

You have an OEM Windows license on this computer.

    Limits of the OEM computer

According to Microsoft, that an OEM of Windows version is related to the first computer, it is installed on and you can not be installed on another computer. Even if the computer on what OEM of Windows has been installed is no longer used, you cannot transfer the OEM license on another computer.

Difference between a Full and selling retail and OEM/System Builder License.
    Windows OEM licenses:
    (1) are related to the first computer installed on and are non-transferable (cannot be moved to another computer).
    (2) can't do a place in upgrading from older versions of Windows, only a cleaning/fresh installation is possible.
    (3) offer no free support from Microsoft.

You posted on the Vista Forums, so you can't install Windows 10 as you advised unless you buy it.

You are very limited as to what you can do with Vista, as you say that the optical drive is not working., that there is no legal Vista download available.

If your CD/DVD drive worked, it was the way to go do a startup repair, a repair installation if Vista was on the rise and running or a reinstallation.

You can borrow and use a DVD Vista Microsoft (selling retail or OEM System Builders License), which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

The COA sticker is either or in the battery compartment on the underside of the laptop.

With a desktop computer, it's on the side, the back or the top of the computer case.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as well as 32-bit and 64-bit editions different DVD lights.

  • Deletion of data of Vista Enterprise for recycling.

I want to recycle my old Dell desktop. It is equipped with Vista business and I want to delete my data. I clicked f8, but unlike ordinary Vista, it didn't have a link to repair the computer. I don't have a disc.

    Hello

If someone is really committed, they can recover your data.

The only way to know that your data is completely safe is to physically destroy the hard drive.

It is the opinion of Dell to reinstall and using F8.

  • How to reinstall windows vista on Lappy which is preinstalled?

I have Thinkpad R400 preinstalled Windows Vista SP1.

Due to software problem (suddenly froze after 2-3 min to boot) I did a factory reset. Contributing to the frozen problem but brings a lot of other problems.

    Problems-
01 after reset, some programs don't go out. Clicking on it shows "invalid path".
    2. opening a file creates a separate window, although opening in the same window settings in 'on '. I found a solution on the internet IE "actxprxy.dll" activation through cmd. This is useful.
    3. turn the button to "auto update" and "Windows defender" does not work. I mean after clicking it shows it will turn on but stays the same.
    4. There is a problem with the installation of other software.
    5. after each start up brightness down by half. I have to manually increase.

Now, I decided to reinstall vista, but I have no cd of restoration or cd of the OS.

There is a product id to the Lappy back.

I can use it at installation time?

Help me, I want to start from the beginning with this vista.

    Hello

If you use Norton, AVG, Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, McAfee, etc. the default action is for Windows Defender must be disabled, that these AntiVirus programs have their own Antispyware Applications.

    There is nothing to worry.

Using both programs at the same time can cause system conflicts, etc.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

And look for updates of pilot in the support/downloads section for the manufacturer's Web site.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

You have the factory reset option, as you have used.

There is nothing wrong with use because it contains hardware drivers you need (you may need to update, as shown above).

But support for Vista, with the exception of Vista SP2, is over. and you need to install Service Packs to make sure programs, etc.

Click Start > right click on computer > left click on properties > see if you have Vista 32 bit or Vista 64-bit installed.

It will also tell you which SP you have installed.

Then, choose the download of 'bit' OK to use to install Service Packs, installation of SP1 first if it is not already installed.
