Series 6510 Photosmart will not print at all, or very light ink, after the installation of the Mavericks

21/01/14 hi support community - after having installed the Mavericks a few weeks ago, I can no longer print to my HP Photosmart 6510 of any of my devices Mac: MacBook Air, iMac, or iPad.  The printer acts like it is printing, even if the result is either no impression on the page or something almost too small to see, with weird colors. I replaced all ink cartridges.   I was on MAC support forums and have done everything suggested, i.e. reinstall the printer, reset the printer, so that reset each device.  The printer will not print a test page.

I need to use my printer.  Help please!  Thanks, Bonnie

RESOLVED (I think).  After posting my question, I continued to search for possible answers.  After starting from scratch, I followed the instructions and others have left regarding the problems of scanning.  Seems that whatever it either which has interfered with printing can also lead to the (logical) scanning.  I have no idea what exactly 'fixed' my printing problem even if at the moment everything seems to work.  (I did not scan anything - and this time not afraid of)

    I just changed the print cartridges. all color cartridges work well, but black is not printing at all. It shows not entirely in the status window but nothing comes out. could you give me some advice please.

    Perhaps took a little luck, but follow the advice given to another (with a different printer) regarding printhead release in removing all the cartridges and submerging print heads in hot water for five minutes, then dry carefully.

    did this and it now works perfectly.

    My photosmart 6510 does not print in black, after that I installed all the new HP ink cartridges. I am running Windows Vista 32-bit.

    I tried all the basic tests & troubleshooting but who still have the problem.

    It allows to print from the photo tray 4 x 6 end.

    I don't see you mention the presence of 'BLACK'.


    If there was no black printing, then I would say you call the HP Technical Support for assistance.

    If you are in the United States, the toll free # is 1-800-474-6836 .

    If you are not in US , then log on to www.hp.com , bottom left there is a world map icon, click it, and then select the region that you belong to, which would then provide the support options for you for this region.

  • My 6520 6510 printers will not print black ink

    Replace a black cartridge in my Photosmart 6510 printer and it wouldn't work.  Check all measurements in the help guide.  Still does not work.  We also had a Photosmart 6520 in the storage of a recent move, so tried.  Using the same cartridges, black ink will still not print.

    Something to do to get this working?

    I would advise giving HP a telephone support call about this, as you may need a replacement. Can you please let us know how you get on? Thanks, Ciara

    I spent three very frustrating days with my printer.  Printer worked wireless fine and usb connected until about three days ago.  I've had it for a year and it worked very well for all this time.

    Now, it does print from my laptop. My wife's cell phone can print without problem wireless in another room.

    Here's what I've done so far.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the HP software from the CD drive four different times. It installs and seems to connect properly.  Printer appears in "devices and printers".  It is not a test print.

    I installed all the updates on Windows 7 Home Premium X 64.

    I ran doctor Scan six times.

    I run scans on network for problems.

    I wipe my laptop and do a fresh install (I do each year).  But I did only 3 months.  Really don't want to do this again.

    I have nothing seems to fix.

    The printer connects to the laptop, it can be connected to a network printer. But no printing.

    It is simple ceased three days ago.  I don't remember the changes or warnings.

    I'm a little tech savvy and is not afraid to test - but I've exhausted what I can do.

    It seems to be a problem with permissions on my laptop but I can't in this case.

    I am a pastor and I use my printer almost every day.  I'm desperate for a solution!

    Found the answer in the forum.

    To use a different print driver for printers HP with Windows 7:
    1. click on the start menu.
    2 click devices and printers.
    3. right click on your printer.
    4. Select printer properties.
    5. click on the Advanced tab.
    6. click on new driver.
    7. click on next.
    8. Select HP in the first list.
    9. Select Deskjet 450 in the second.  If the 450 driver is not there, use the Deskjet 990c printer driver.
    10. click Next.
    11. click on finish.
    12. click on apply.
    13. click OK to close the window.

    Work on the two connected usb or wireless printing.  You don't have to change the 450 driver.  I do not know why the pilot of 2540 worked for a year and all of a sudden 3 days ago stop working-, but he did.

    Can not get the HP support pages - all links come with a blank page - so hope someone can help.

    Changed my cartridges as the weak and printing is poor, and now black ink does not print despite showing in high and genuine HP cartridges ink levels. Followed all the steps of cleaning, alignment and clean manually screenshot. Off, pulled the plug out, waited 5 minutes. Still no black printing.  Checked for updates software and driver - no required.

    Any help gratefully received.

    Thank you for your response. I now gave up the HP printer altogether, because I found that it was still under an extended warranty that I got when I bought it - not something I usually do, but he paid this time. So now have a cannon, and must see if it will be better. Very grateful that you took the time to try to help.

  • Photosmart 6520: 6520 Photosmart will not print black

    Printer has started to have black letters to fade so I replaced the black cartridge.  Now the black does not print.

    Read the care instructions and used a PIN to clean the holes in the cartridge.  Does not resolve the issue.

    Then clean the print head.  Does not resolve the issue.

    I tried a 2nd black cartridge and that did not help.  All repeated the same steps of education support the vent and the cleaning of the print head.  Does not resolve the issue.

    All other colors work very well.

    What now?

    You will need to contact HP as described in the post here.  They should be able to help solve the problem, even if your printer is no longer under warranty.

    1. don't you make changes to the computer until the problem occurred?

    I suggest you try the steps from the link below and check if it helps.

    I have a HP Photosmart5280 all-in-one (Windows 7 work) that I've liked for a couple of years. I recently replaced the black cartridge (with the HP brand ink) and it has been working well. Today, I tried to print on a CD (which I did successfully in the past) with a black and white design (no color). I tried about four times with three different (HP Photosmart Essential, Preview and Roxio) programs, and every time she acts like it is printing, but the disc comes out blank. I printed on paper just to ensure that the black ink was still working, and it came out fine. Help! I do not understand why it is just printing on paper and not on the disk, especially because it is printed on the disc before without problem.

    (May be worth noting that I have aligned the cartridges in my first installation of the new black cartridge, but the printer didn't like alignment.) I did the alignment with the same results. However, my impression looks good, and I was ignoring his request for another alignment because I don't want to use ink. Also, it's almost more color ink, but that shouldn't be a problem because I'm only black printing.)

    The fixed. In a last-ditch attempt, I removed the cartridge empty color out of the printer and told to print the disc again. It is printed. Still not sure why it worked, but he did, and I'm happy.

    You have a c310 PS, right? Have you tried the usual things like

    -check ink levels

    -running a clean print head

    -verification of the cartridge is properly ventilated

    If so, then soaking the printhead suggested by Bob Headrick might work. Otherwise, you could buy a new printhead at shop part of HP (because I assume that your printer is now out of warranty?)

  • Print yesterday, scanned today and now D110a Photosmart will not print

    Yesterday, we printed documents using our printer Photosmart D110a.  A OK.  Today, we scanned documents using the same printer.  A OK.  Now we try to print again and just empty pages are coming soon.  No idea what Miss them us?  We have a PowerBook G4 (OS X 10.5.8) and Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook (OS X 10.6.8).)  We print wireless.  We tried to print different documents using two computers.  Nothing but blank pages.  I cleaned the print heads and test print came out very well, so there is a lot of ink.  I can scan an image and then print that.  We cannot just simply print documents.  Any ideas, please?  Thank you

  • 2605dn will not print from a computer, but another computer on the same network print very well.

    The two machines running Win 7 64 bit, both on the same network (such as a printer) all with cable connection to the local network. A single machine prints fine, but since a few days, my PC will not be printed on the printer. PING and TRACERT it is correct, and I tried removing/reinstalling the printer several times. Using the PCL6 driver, as well as a specific driver for printer have same results.  Anyone else having this problem?

    After almost 12 hours of continuous hair-pulling, finally ran across the solution on a Microsoft forum site: it turns out that the problem was a recent update of anti-virus software (McAfee, specifically) who changed the firewall settings.  Can't seem to get the AV software allow constantly to the printer, but temporarily disable the firewall in the AV software has solved the problem.  (the other machine running another AV software package)  I have to just be careful during this 15 minute period.

    Anyway, if you have a similar problem, make sure to check the firewall settings.

    Click Start and type services.msc

    Press enter

    Scroll down to print spooler

    Right-click on the spooler and select stop

    Wait for Windows to stop the spooler

    Close the window

    Control Panel > printers folder

    Right-click on the printer icon and select open

    Click file > cancel all Documents

    Close the window

    Start > right click on computer

    Click on manage

    Select Device Manager

    Click on the + sign next to the Ieee... compatible printers

    Right-click on the driver and select uninstall

    Click on the + next to imaging devices

    Right-click on the driver and select uninstall

    Click on the + sign next to printers

    Right-click on the driver and select uninstall

    Click on the + sign next to Bus USB controllers

    Right-click on the printer driver and select uninstall

    Close the Device Manager

    Restart the computer

    Windows will reinstall the drivers

    Go to the manufacturer's website and search for updated drivers

    Don't forget to come back to services and start print spooler before printing again.

    OK, run the uninstaller (start > all programs > Hewlett-Packard folder).  Restart, and then download the latest version of the software for your printer from the "Support & drivers" link at the top of this page.
