Series HP Zook: DST short Test failed

Unable to start my computer this morning, I ran hardware diagnostics. The computer memory checking and SMART in vain check the DST short.

Error code: UFH3HF-000840-XD7V7F-60SL03
Product ID: G8B26UC #ABA

I know that usually a DST failed test means that the hard drive has gone wrong, but I still see an error similar to mine on the forums code, so I thought that I would check, just in case.

Hello

Unfortunately, the code confirm the disk failure Self Test runs and would indicate that the drive should be replaced.  The error codes are unique because they contain a hash other information such as the time of the breathalyzer test.

Kind regards

I removed the hard drive [brand Toshiba] and connected as an external drive to a Mac.

I am able to access your hard drive and copy some content from it. So, it looks like a problem with the hard drive.

Is this a problem with the connection of harrdisk to the motherboard or with the hard drive itself?

    Help, please.

    Hello

Yes, you can use your friend recovery media in your. It should work.

I'm not able to find a recovery media for your model of third-party vendors too.

No, you can't create USB recovery by plugging the old drive as external references to another PC. You have to use HP application recovery manager supplied with your laptop and create a set. I think that you will not be able to do from a failing drive.

  • Start DST short Test failed, cannot start - data recovery

    Hello!

A week ago, I posted the message that - at the start - I get a blue screen and the diagnostic utility says that start DST short Test failed...

I was told that the bad far developed - unfortunately in these square where some files needed to start...

There is, however, always a guarantee

I installed the HARD drive in an external enclosure, so I already transferred my files, screensavers & fonts and so on on another HARD drive - well. But one thing that is still missing EMAILS. E-mail messages that are in Outlook Express as well as the different accounts that I use (Finally, I still not know the settings, but I would simply import the account to my new installation)...

Is THERE ANY CHANCE to get these EMAILS (at least and go as far as accounts) WITHOUT booting the system with this very HARD (which currently doesn't)... where these mails are stored? or should I try to get windows working again to access Outlook & emails?

    Hello

Your laptop is listed as coming with a HARD drive from 640 GB, but given that there is little difference in cost, you can replace this with a 750 GB option.

The player at the link below is an example of one that would be perfect for your laptop.

750 GB hard drive for laptop.

The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 64 of your maintenance & Service Guide.

    ***************************************************************

Regarding the reinstallation of the operating system, you can create your own installer of Windows 7 USB drive flash as follows.

Before you try the following, make sure that you can always read the character product activation key 25 on your label Windows COA (5 blocks of 5 alphanumeric games).

An example of a COA label can be seen here.

Using another PC - just download the good Disk Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your laptop - it is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit ) from the link below--these Images are of a very respected source (Digital River).

    Windows 7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit

Once completed, use the Microsoft Tool on the following link to create a USB bootable Windows 7 installer - you will need a 4 GB flash for this drive.

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

When creating, tap away at the esc you key start Notepad to open the Start Menu.  Insert the Windows 7 flash player.  Select the Boot Options menu (usually f9).  Use the arrow keys to select the flash drive and press ENTER.

If your laptop will boot from it, use the flash player to perform the installation, enter the activation key for Windows on the label of the COA in the request and once the installation is complete, use the 'method of phone", described in detail in the link below to activate the operating system - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who want just a new installation of Windows 7 without the software load extra normally delivered with OEM installations.

You may need, additional drivers and software are here.

    Hello

Error code 24 characters for the failure of disk Self Test (DST) short would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.  This corresponds also to the inability to load the OS.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

If you are out of warranty and would like a guide to replacing the hard drive yourself, let me know.

  • DST short test failed

while making the start-up test, I got the result that

Yes, replace the hard drive should solve the problem completely.

You can read the product key on the bottom of your laptop?

If this isn't the case, you will need to either buy a new full version of Windows 7 or to see if you can order a set of recovery disks by reading the info on the link below.

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/bph07143

If the link above does not provide the information you need and you do not live in the United States, then you may be able to order some of HP's partner on the link below for the country you live.

    http://www.best2serve.com/

You can change the country to the other by clicking on the United Kingdom and a drop-down list appears.

You should not need the product key with the recovery discs.

If you can read the product key on the bottom of your laptop, you can make your own windows 7 installation disc.

If you can read the Microsoft windows 7 25-character product key, you can download simple Windows 7 ISO files to burn on a DVD for the version of windows that is installed on your PC, and which is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC case.

Burn the ISO with the option to burn the ISO on your DVD burning program and burn it at the slowest possible speed that will allow your program. This will create a bootable DVD.

Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.

The key will activate a 32 or 64 bit installation.

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below.

    Hello

Your laptop is listed as coming with a 750 GB 5400 RPM hard drive, but you can replace this with a 750 GB 7200 RPM HARD drive for a little more performance - the reader on links below is an example that would be perfect for your laptop.

The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 52 of your & Maintenance Guide.

Once this is done, simply use your recovery media to reinstall the operating system on the new drive - this is described in the document of HP here.

If you do not have your recovery media, you can order a replacement set using the link below (I assumed the model No., you live in the United Kingdom).

  • SMART short test failed

Under hardware Maintence diagnosed and he tells me that the SMART short Test failed what it means and how to fix this

I think that trying to DEFRAGMENT a hard disk 'default' is the wrong thing to do.

Compare to the conduct of a dirt road with Bald tires - while the Bald tires may be OK on a dry, paved, road between them work "hard" will result in a failure of the tire.

Similarly, many files on the hard drive when it is expected to be soon to fail, is also a bad idea.

Any small computer boss store can sell you a hard drive brand new and may try to "clone" of 100% of the hard drive of the 'old' drive on 'new' disk

Price?  It depends on the capacity (250 GB? 500 GB? 1000GO? 2000 GB?).

About US $100, you will have a new disk drive with a capacity greater than your current drive.

Add $50 to $100 US for the technician:

    Open the computer case,

    * Check the physical size and the capacity of the old-disk drive, to recommend a "compatible" replacement

    * Fix temporarily the new discs,

    * run the software "-disk cloning."

    * delete the old records (and he will give it to you, so that you can literally hammer it, so that no one will ever be able to read one of your folders – think 'security'),

    * connect permanently the new disks.

    * close the computer case,

    * test it.

It also depends on the "age" of your computer.

If it is still running Windows XP or Windows Vista, it will be over ten years - REPLACE a computer of this type.

rather than spend more than US $150 to keep until something else died of "old age".

  • HP G62: DST short test system Diagnostics failed HP G62

    Hello.

    Windows 7 x 64 SP1

I managed the system diagnosis HP test that you can access during startup by pressing ESC. The computer passes the test of memory and disk hard test but failed the test at startup and testing of tune-up with the same error:

    DST short failed

    Failure ID: 9LNF9R-50881W-XD014J-60QG03
    Product ID: XF522EA #AB9

    What does that mean?

Thank you for your time and your help.

    Hello

It really sounds like the HARD drive starts to fail, then it would probably be better to replace it before installing Windows 10.

The only other option that might be interesting to try would be to zero the drive then reinstall the original OS and see if you still get the uefi diagnostic errors.

You have your media recovery (disks or USB key) to be able to reinstall Windows 7?

    Kind regards

  • FailedI DST short test start

I had a lot of trouble from my computer. Whenever I turn it on, I get an error of Windows with 2 options recovery: launch the repair (recommended), which only leads to a silver background with nothing more than a mobile cursor, and to start as normal Windows, which leads to the logo screen, then the computer automatically restarts.

I pressed the ESC key at startup and found my way to start of HP test. Once completed, the results were...

    Memory test: PAST
    INTELLIGENT control: PAST
    DST short: FAILURE

    Hello

It is a failure of hard drive & not because you it completely filled with data, it is because your unlucky this hard drive ceases to function properly.

You try to save if not already done on an external hard drive if you can get into safe mode or troubleshoot page by pressing F8 or F11.

If you are under warranty, HP will replace it for you for free.

    Thank you

  • HP 2000: Hard Drive DST short verification failed.

Hello. Since last Monday, my laptop froze on me, which forced me to hard stop. When I tried to turn it back on, it takes me to the HP logo with the rotation of the circle, but it doesn't take me anywhere. When I waited 5 minutes, a really quick blue screen pulls up with a sad face emoticon, saying: "your PC has encountered a problem and needs to restart." We are only collecting the error information, and then we'll restart for you"(I took a photo of it the second time I restarted and this post pulled up to read since the message was for a second). So that it restarts and pulls up the HP logo with a message saying "automatic repair". After a few seconds, it brings me to a black screen that takes me anywhere I left on for about 2-3 hours (I had work) and she still had the black screen. I tried to go to Safe Mode, still need me "Auto repair" and black screens. I searched the Internet for help, one of them told to press F2 at startup so it can pull up a menu to analyze the material. When I went to System Tests > extended Test, it took 3 minutes or more to complete, saying that he failed. The information there was:

Hard Drive check short DST: FAILURE

    Failure ID: Q0ADB0-6RX7MQ-MFGJWK-60RW03
    Product ID: E0M14UA #ABA

I'm currently waiting on my repair disc since some sites it suggested before a factory restore. I really hope it is not a complete restoration, many of my school files and important data are there. The repair disk is going to help me, or is there another solution before a full restore? Thank you.

Edit: I was wondering if I actually do a full on my computer restore if all else fails, is still a possibility for me to back up my data, even if I can't get past the boot? Is it possible to do this action in the menu entry? As the menu of the BIOS, etc? If the material does not affect the memory, or if they are identical.

DST check: Fail = disk hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If this is not the case, a laptop SATA hard detail can be used. Just be sure to get a quality at least equal the original in order to use recovery disks. It may be big, but not small ability more. For example you have a > 500 GB hard drive , so that you could use a 750 GB but not a 320 GB hard drive.

Your files may be lost. The best hope to recover them will be to remove the drive hard, install it in one >USB HDD Enclosure, then plug it into the usb port of a working computer. If there is any life left in the drive, you should be able to go through it and copy files off the power on a hard drive of the host computer.

Your > & Maintenance Guide will help to remove/replace the hard drive.
