Pavilion 2206TX: hard drive DST short test failed
Hard drive DST short test failed.
For a few days, my laptop is not starting.
Run the diagnostics showed "hard drive DST short test failed.
I removed the hard drive [brand Toshiba] and connected as an external drive to a Mac.
I am able to access your hard drive and copy some content from it. So, it looks like a problem with the hard drive.
Is this a problem with the connection of harrdisk to the motherboard or with the hard drive itself?
Help, please.
Hello
Yes, you can use your friend recovery media in your. It should work.
I'm not able to find a recovery media for your model of third-party vendors too.
No, you can't create USB recovery by plugging the old drive as external references to another PC. You have to use HP application recovery manager supplied with your laptop and create a set. I think that you will not be able to do from a failing drive.

Hello
Your laptop is listed as coming with a HARD drive from 640 GB, but given that there is little difference in cost, you can replace this with a 750 GB option.
The player at the link below is an example of one that would be perfect for your laptop.
The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 64 of your maintenance & Service Guide.
***************************************************************
Regarding the reinstallation of the operating system, you can create your own installer of Windows 7 USB drive flash as follows.
Before you try the following, make sure that you can always read the character product activation key 25 on your label Windows COA (5 blocks of 5 alphanumeric games).
An example of a COA label can be seen here.
Using another PC - just download the good Disk Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your laptop - it is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit ) from the link below--these Images are of a very respected source (Digital River).
Windows 7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit
Once completed, use the Microsoft Tool on the following link to create a USB bootable Windows 7 installer - you will need a 4 GB flash for this drive.
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
When creating, tap away at the esc you key start Notepad to open the Start Menu. Insert the Windows 7 flash player. Select the Boot Options menu (usually f9). Use the arrow keys to select the flash drive and press ENTER.
If your laptop will boot from it, use the flash player to perform the installation, enter the activation key for Windows on the label of the COA in the request and once the installation is complete, use the 'method of phone", described in detail in the link below to activate the operating system - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who want just a new installation of Windows 7 without the software load extra normally delivered with OEM installations.

You may need, additional drivers and software are here.

Hello
Your laptop is listed as coming with a 750 GB 5400 RPM hard drive, but you can replace this with a 750 GB 7200 RPM HARD drive for a little more performance - the reader on links below is an example that would be perfect for your laptop.
The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 52 of your & Maintenance Guide.
Once this is done, simply use your recovery media to reinstall the operating system on the new drive - this is described in the document of HP here.
If you do not have your recovery media, you can order a replacement set using the link below (I assumed the model No., you live in the United Kingdom).

Hello
Error code 24 characters for the failure of disk Self Test (DST) short would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced. This corresponds also to the inability to load the OS.
If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.
If you live in the United States, contact HP here.
If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

Portable: hard drive DST SHORT failed
My computer won't start and repeatedly goes to a blue screen with a sunburst type above (the mouse pointer still work). I've run the HP tests and get this result:
"Short DST: FAILURE.
FAILURE ID: GDSDBX-TLR7RJ-9XL03F-604J03
PRODUCT ID: XF288EA #ABU
Hard drive 1
"Test drive: FAILED.
I guess that means that my hard drive is irreparable, but can someone confirm this. Also, I will be able to buy another hard drive and use the ERD that I did to reinstall Windows 7? I ask because it was preinstalled on your laptop and came with no disk to reinstall. Only, I was commissioned to do a repair disk.
Thanks in advance.
Dan
Each time the short hard drive DST test fails with 24 alphanumeric characters "GDSDBX-TLR7RJ-9XL03F-604J03" which indicates that the hard drive has failed and which needs to be replaced to solve the problem
This problem could be due to an Application or a driver conflict, virus issues, corruptions of files due to incompatible applications, incorrect judgments, update failures due to conflicts, mounted sudden power so portable, sudden falls etc...
HP will offer a replacement HDD if the laptop warranty is Active, otherwise you can buy a SATA hard drive in a nearby retail store
Please make sure that you get at least equal as long as the original one in order to use recovery disks. If you need you can buy a bigger, but not smaller hard drive capacity. For example, if you have a 500 GB hard drive you can improve it to 750 GB hard drive, but not 320 GB hard drive
Please try the troubleshooting below indicated once the steps:
Step 01. Remove the battery and unplug the power adapter AC.
Step 02. Press and hold the power button for more than 30 seconds
Step 03. Plug the AC power adapter / (leave the battery for now)
Step 04. Press the power button and check if the unit is operating normally
If the steps listed above is not enough, then you can try reinstalling the hard disk on your laptop
If the problem persists again please Contact HP if your HP laptop is under warranty, HP could replace the hard drive and provide recovery media to restore the operating system to factory after the replacement (if you have not yet created recovery disks/USB support)
Note: Back up all personal data on an external drive if possible. Otherwise, you can connect the HDD defective via SATA USB adapter with another PC or a PC even after replacing the HARD drive & put in place of the operating system and try to copy / retrieve files. HP 2000: Hard Drive DST short verification failed.
Hello. Since last Monday, my laptop froze on me, which forced me to hard stop. When I tried to turn it back on, it takes me to the HP logo with the rotation of the circle, but it doesn't take me anywhere. When I waited 5 minutes, a really quick blue screen pulls up with a sad face emoticon, saying: "your PC has encountered a problem and needs to restart." We are only collecting the error information, and then we'll restart for you"(I took a photo of it the second time I restarted and this post pulled up to read since the message was for a second). So that it restarts and pulls up the HP logo with a message saying "automatic repair". After a few seconds, it brings me to a black screen that takes me anywhere I left on for about 2-3 hours (I had work) and she still had the black screen. I tried to go to Safe Mode, still need me "Auto repair" and black screens. I searched the Internet for help, one of them told to press F2 at startup so it can pull up a menu to analyze the material. When I went to System Tests > extended Test, it took 3 minutes or more to complete, saying that he failed. The information there was:
Hard Drive check short DST: FAILURE
Failure ID: Q0ADB0-6RX7MQ-MFGJWK-60RW03
Product ID: E0M14UA #ABAI'm currently waiting on my repair disc since some sites it suggested before a factory restore. I really hope it is not a complete restoration, many of my school files and important data are there. The repair disk is going to help me, or is there another solution before a full restore? Thank you.
Edit: I was wondering if I actually do a full on my computer restore if all else fails, is still a possibility for me to back up my data, even if I can't get past the boot? Is it possible to do this action in the menu entry? As the menu of the BIOS, etc? If the material does not affect the memory, or if they are identical.
DST check: Fail = disk hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If this is not the case, a laptop SATA hard detail can be used. Just be sure to get a quality at least equal the original in order to use recovery disks. It may be big, but not small ability more. For example you have a > 500 GB hard drive , so that you could use a 750 GB but not a 320 GB hard drive.
Your files may be lost. The best hope to recover them will be to remove the drive hard, install it in one >USB HDD Enclosure, then plug it into the usb port of a working computer. If there is any life left in the drive, you should be able to go through it and copy files off the power on a hard drive of the host computer.
Your > & Maintenance Guide will help to remove/replace the hard drive.

hard drive DST short failure Presario CQ57 Notebook PC 64-bit
I ran hp advanced diagnosis system - all past except the DST
the laptop will not reboot - I have it turn off and on again each time.
The error is:
Failure ID: UBW7KK-000710-MFKR4K-60R703
Product ID: A7538EA #ABU
Model: PC laptop Presario CQ57 64-bit
Date of purchase: may 2012 so no longer under warrantly
I never liked this HP laptop - but to have a drive only hard failure after 1.5 years is ridiculous. I regularly perform system checks/run antivirus etc software
Can someone tell me if this is indeed a hard drive failure? Much else is problematic too - especially the speed. I have already restored the computer laptop back to factory settings to sort the other probs - a lot of your time. If I restore settings still is likely to address the problem of restarting? Thank you
Yes, this error indicates failure of hard drive and need a replacement.

HP Pavilion dv6-2127el: hard drive full error test
Hello.
my laptop has recently a few teething problems, either when the bios starts (led will blink twice), either during the loading of Windows. The problem seems to happen especially the first time that I turn it on during the day, when I try 6-10 times before starting properly.
I reinstalled the OS and nothing has changed. I did the diagnostic system and I got an error on the full Test of the hard drive:
9AM66W-53S7G3-XD0021-61EC03
all other tests passed.
Thank you
means that the drive is defective and needs to be replaced...

Error code 1000-0146: Start "DST Short test": failure
Hello
As of today, I am unable to boot Windows 7. Just after the Windows flag logo, I get a BSOD with error: unmountable_boot_volume. When I run diagnostics I get the error mentioned in the title.
I tried several things, including the repair of Windows 7, diskpart, chkdsk and sfc scannow in the cd installation cmd prompt and change the BIOS settings. Unfortunately, none of these things worked.
To elaborate a little bit on the things I've tried: I tried to repair Windows from the installation cd as well as the 'normal' (one of the two options, that you can get when something going wrong and you reinstall your system). In the first case the system shows a blue background hanging and in this case, I get a black background of hanging. The diskpart command displays only the first three lines, i.e. it does not show DISKPART > allows to provide other commands. The chkdsk does nothing and reports that the drive is write-protected. The EFC control signals that the repair is ongoing (no doubt because the installation disk is running) and ask you to restart your PC (which doesn't help). I also played around with a few startup settings, including the priorities of boot.
I strongly suspect that the drive is failing and I need to recover the data and replace the drive. However, I would like to be sure before I undertake these actions 100%. I hope someone can help out me... Thank you!

Error 0146 indicates a failing or hard drive or a disk bad sector. Basically, this means that your hard drive needs to be replaced.

Pavilion g6-2218nr short hard drive DST test Failed
I have a HP Pavilion laptop g6-2218nr that will not start. When you run the marketing diagnostic test and the hard drive diagnostic test, both tests showed the hard drive DST short FAILED.
The failure code is:
GUQDU4-6B872D-MFPX1F - 60Q 103
Product ID:
C2N56UA #ABA
The laptop is unfortunately no longer under warranty. Should the hard drive be replaced? Can you recommend a replacement? Are there instructions available?
Thank you!
Hello
The error code indicates that the hard drive is faulty and will need to be replaced - a brief guide to do it yourself is detailed below.
Your laptop is considered as coming with a 320 GB hard drive, but you can install just as easily a 500 GB or 750 GB HARD drive if you want a little more space - readers at the following links are examples that would be perfect for your laptop.
The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 52 of your & Maintenance Guide.
Once this is done, simply use your recovery DVD to reinstall the operating system on the new drive - this is described in the document of HP here.
If you do not have your recovery discs, you can order a replacement set using the link below.
If you have a problem with this link, order them directly from HP.
If you live in the United States, contact HP here.
If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

Short hard drive DST Check: failure
Failure ID: PGFB13-7JP81S-XD7WL1-60VN03
Do I need a new hard drive? He's still on warranty. Bought in the UK but for the moment in the Middle East. What to do next?

Hi @MikerP!
I'm sorry to say this, but the 24-character error codes indicates a drive failure, which means that the drive is defective and must be replaced.
You always have access to the data stored on the disk? If you do, then save as much information as possible and look for a replacement drive. If the product is still under warranty, you can contact support, but in case you have no guarantee and you would like a guide to replacing the hard drive yourself – please let me know.
I hope this helps and good luck!
