set hotmail as default e-mail on windows 7, 64 bit

I am running windows 7, 64 bit. I'm putting hotmail as my Songbird of e-mail by default. From all the time, there was no work around that. I was wondering if someone came up with something?

If you access Hotmail through Internet Explorer and then no., (AFAIK) there is no work around.

Your easiest solution is to download and install Windows Live Mail and add your Hotmail account to that.

  • How to set Windows Live Hotmail as my e-mail program by default on Windows 7?

I had Windows Live Hotmail as my email program by default when I had XP but now with 7, I can't for some reason any. I don't want to use Windows Live Mail. I want just to link to Hotmail.

I know what you're saying and I thought for a while also, but one day when I had XP, I went to set a new default and in the drop-down list e-mail client in Internet Explorer 8, it says Windows Live Hotmail. I have no idea how it got because that prior to that time I had never seen Hotmail it. Well, I thought that the situation would be similar to Windows 7 but IE 8 does not provide a drop-down menu here to set default programs, it just sends you to the control panel to actually choose a program. I want that Windows Live Hotmail has a plug-in or whatever you call, like Yahoo, so you can set it as your default email.

  • How to set Yahoo as my default e-mail on my Windows 7 computer?

Please guide me through the definition of my Yahoo mail like e-mail by default for my new Windows 7 computer. I already have a Yahoo account set and I'm able to do this easily by using the Windows XP operating system.

    Thank you

If you use Yahoo Mail via Internet Explorer, you can not currently set it as your default email.  This task is accomplished by the Yahoo toolbar item in Windows XP systems and this component does currently not work on Vista and Windows 7 systems.  We hope all that yahoo fixes this issue soon. If you have a Yahoo Mail Plus paying account, GordonBP link should do the work for you.

  • Problem by setting a default mail on Windows 7 program

I use Outlook Express as my email client. When I try to email a picture to a Web site by right-clicking and selecting the e-mail option, I get a pop-up message box which tells me this: "there are no associated messaging program to perform the requested action. "Install an e-mail program or, if such is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel. Well, I followed the instructions and opened this program, I chose the one that says, "program access and computer by default", then I chose the dot next to "Microsoft windows", because Outlook is Microsoft and comes with windows, but I still can't the system to set a default e-mail program. Can you please help me with this?  I'd greatly appreciate the effort... Sincerely, Kevin R. Greeley, a Windows user otherwise very satisfied...

you will be able to designate Outlook as your default program.

    ...

Some program your ISP has set up you can also use as default.

No! Outlook.com is a web service, not a program. It goes same for webmail that provide most of the suppliers. In order to use functions such as send this page by email or send by e-mail link on a web page, or send to > message recipient in Windows Explorer, you must have an e-mail program client installed on your computer.

All versions of Windows since 1998 has included an e-mail client, to the exception of Windows 7. Several Windows 7 computers are delivered with an e-mail client software installed, often Windows Live Mail. Others do not, so you need to install one yourself. Microsoft produces two - Outlook, which is part of the Office and not free, and Windows Live Mail, part of the free Windows Essentials. Several others are available, some free, some not.

  • What this means when I try to send from a Web site and "must be set to default e-mail client" expression. Where can I find and what I do to send emails through Web sites

Where I put "default email client".  When surfer and needing to send an email from a Web site, this sentence comes in.  Thank you

    Hi Linda,.

This means that you should choose a program to use by default, for Windows to know which program to use when you send an e-mail.
You can set a default program by following the instructions in this link:
If you don't have any e-mail program installed, you can download Windows Live Mail, which is free and can be downloaded here:

  • Delete the default e-mail server in Windows Mail

Hi, I just upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 Pro and I am very happy with it.

I worked for an Australian company who installed their email on my laptop, so I could send and receive emails using their server and my email address * address email is removed from the privacy *. I left the company and it has been "disabled", but it remains on my computer configured as far as I can tell that by default (e-mail server?) in Windows Mail. There is nothing else that keeps me using Windows Mail.

How can I get rid of him?

How to install Windows Mail or MSN or Gmail default?

Here is an article on how to implement a Windows Mail account http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Windows-Mail-setting-up-an-account-from-start-to-finish (note what is written for Vista - I don't know if it applies to Windows7).  Frankly, I would switch to Windows Live Mail, it's also free and a much better product - but it's your decision.

The simple answer is to add a new server (Tools / accounts / add) any ISP you choose (you must tell you the settings for the e-mail account they provide for you the ISP), configure it as they requested, verify that you can connect and send messages, and return to the accounnts section and the new account should be listed.  Either delete the old one (which is a new default by default) or right click on the accounts and there should be options to add or remove the default account.

If this does not help, please transfer your question in the Forums of Windows7 to: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windows7 where Windows7 experts will be happy to help you.

    Good luck!
