set up a wireless printer on my laptop

Can I set up a wireless network from the printer to my laptop running windows XP media center edition service pack 3 which is wireless connected to the internet via my desk top which is connected to the internet?

1. what version of Windows, including the service pack is on the desk? Windows xp edition family sp 3. HOM

2. What is the brand and model of your printer? Canon office while a pixma mx310

3. What is the brand and model of your router (or what box which is connected to the desktop computer)? Westell VersaLink 327W gateway

4. how and what is connected to the printer? USB cable to the desktop

Ok.  You can 'share' the Canon printer, which means that you will be able to print to it from your laptop when your laptop is connected wireless to your router.

This is called 'file and printer sharing' and here are some basic tips on setting up, courtesy of the MVP Malke (you have already completed part A, then start with the part B). Read the part in the first paragraph I put in bold.  If you do not understand the last paragraph on sharing the printer, read one or more of the articles from Google search.

You can also watch all or part of the first 5 links in this Google search: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=xp+sharing+printer

If you want to share your cannon sweep feature, you will have to read the manual to see if it is possible and (b) how to put in place.  He usually just is to use the Canon CD to install the printer and its software required on your laptop the installer knows that the Canon is a shared network resource.

The best and simplest is to buy a wireless router. In this way you
get Internet connectivity both machines and the added benefit of some
more security between you and the Internet. Next, you set up your wireless network
network in any security, and then you configure file/printer sharing. Below you will find
information on the implementation of a router and also in networking. Looks like
long but don't be intimidated. Setting up a router and local area network
sharing between two computers takes about 15 minutes.

Configuration of the router.

Setting up a router is simple enough. Normally, you run the CD that came with
the router and follow the instructions. If you're running Vista may be the
CD that came with the router does not work; I do not know this. But you can set
the router without the CD. Note that if you have Internet, cable for the
connection you just put the router to DHCP (or there may even be a)
cable choice to choose). If you have DSL Internet, you generally
Select PPoe and enter the username and password you chose during
initially setting up the DSL connection. So:

1. turn off the power to your cable modem.
2 set a course of ethernet cat5e cable (usually supplied with the router)
the port of the router to port Internet/WAN modem ethernet cable.
3. connect the CAT5e cable from your computer's network card ethernet cable
one of the ports on the router. If you do not have an ethernet cable
(because you were using USB), you will need to go to the store and buy a.
4. turn on the cable modem. After that all the lights are on, turn on the router.

To configure the router:

Have a computer connected to the router with an ethernet cable. Examples
given are for a Linksys router. Check the manual for your router or router
site Web de MFTR. for the parameters by default if you don't have a Linksys. Open a
browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox and in the address bar type:

http://192.168.1.1 [Enter] (this is by default the router address IP, who)
varies from router to router then check your manual)

This will bring you to the login screen of the router. The default username is left
Blank and the Linksys default password is "admin" without the quotes. Come in
This information. You are now in the configuration of the router utility. Your
utility of configuration may be slightly different from mine.

Click the Administration link at the top of the page. Enter your new
password. MAKE A NOTE SOMEWHERE THAT YOU WILL NOT LOSE. Enter it again
password to confirm and click Save settings at the bottom of
the page. The router will reboot and show you the box of connection again.
Do not fill in the user name and put it in your new password to return in the
configuration utility.

Now, click on the link wireless at the top of the page. Change the wireless
Network name (SSID) default to something you will recognize. I have
suggest that my clients do not use their surname as the SSID. For example,.
You may want your "CastleAnthrax" wireless network name or the
as. ;-)

Click on save settings and when you get the prompt that your changes have been
successfully, click the wireless security link which is just next to the
Wireless settings link base (where you changed your SSID). If you have a
Newish computer, you will be able to affect the Security Mode
WPA2-Personal. Do this and enter a password. The password is what you
come on all the computers that are allowed to connect to the radio
network. MAKE A NOTE SOMEWHERE THAT YOU WILL NOT LOSE.

At this point, your router is set up and if the computer that you are using
to configure the router normally goes for a wireless connection, unplug
the ethernet cable and wireless of the computer should see your new
network. Enter the password you created to join the network and launch
Surf.

B. file/printer sharing of

Excellent, comprehensive, but easy to understand article on file/printer
Sharing in Vista. Contains information about sharing printers and files
and folders:

http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx

For XP, start by running the network on all machines (see Setup Wizard
caveat in section A below).

Problems sharing files between computers on a network are usually caused
(1) a misconfigured firewall or neglected (including a stateful firewall
Firewall in a virtual private network); or (2) inadvertently running two firewall such as the
Built-in firewall of Windows and a third-party firewall; and/or (3) not having not
accounts of the same users and passwords on all computers in the workgroup; (4) try
to create actions where the operating system is not.

A. configure the firewall on all machines to allow the local area network (LAN)
traffic as being approved. With the Windows Firewall, it means which allows file / print
Sharing on the Exceptions tab normally run the Network Setup Wizard on
XP will take care of this for these machines. The only "witch hunt" is that this
lights on the XPSP2 Windows Firewall. If you are not running a
third-party firewall or have an Internet Worm antivirus «»
Protection' (like Norton 2006/07) which acts as a firewall, then you are
fine. With a third-party firewall, I usually set up the allocation of LAN
with a range of IP addresses. E.g. would be 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254. Of course, you
substitute your correct subnet. Do not run more than one firewall. DO
NOT DISABLE THE FIREWALL; CONFIGURE THEM CORRECTLY.

(B) to facilitate the Organization, put all computers in the same workgroup. This
is from the System applet in Control Panel, the computer name tab.

C. create the counterpart of the user accounts and passwords on all machines. You do not have
must be connected to the same account on all machines and passwords
assigned to each user account may be different. accounts/passwords just
need to exist and to match on all machines. DO NOT NEGLECT TO CREATE
PASSWORDS, EVEN IF ONLY OF SIMPLE. If you want a machine to start directly
on the desktop (a particular user account) for convenience, you
to do this. The instructions on this link work for XP and Vista:

Configure Windows to login automatically (MVP Ramesh) -.
http://WindowsXP.MVPs.org/Autologon.htm

D. Si one or more of the computers is XP Pro or Media Center, turn off
Simple file sharing (Folder Options > view tab).

E. create share as you wish. XP Home does not home users sharing
directories or files of program, but you can share folders inside those
directories. A better choice is to simply use the Shared Documents folder.
See the first link above for more information on Vista sharing.

F. you have the job of file sharing (and tested by exchanging a)
files between machines), if you want to share a printer connected
locally to one of your computers, share it to this machine. Then go
for the mftr printer Web site. and download the latest drivers for the
correct system. Install them on the target machines. The
printer must be collected during the installation procedure. If this is not
install the drivers, then use the Add Printer Wizard. In some cases,.
Some printers need to be installed as local printers, but it's outdoors

    Hello

Based on the following link, the printer doesn't have a wireless card so you can't use only a router to make wireless unless your router is also a print server, in this case, it is not.

  • The HP DeskJet F4480 is set up for wireless printing?

    Hello

When I bought my F4480, I thought it was a wireless printer.  I currently have a desktop Mac Power PC G4 running Tiger (10.4.11) and a computer laptop windows XP Pro running. The printer is connected via USB to a Mac, and I tried to set up printing wireless on the laptop. After several hours of trying, googling and looking for the manual, I finally decided to post here.

Question 1 can we do? (if the answer is no, then "thank you" and I'll be on my way...)

Question 2 in the affirmative and who have already installed the necessary drivers on my laptop, what is the next step?

Sorry to be such a fool. Thanks in advance.

Series F4400 (including your part done F4480) has USB connectivity only.  The series F4500 has USB and wireless.

But, with the printer connected to your Mac, you can share printing works (but not scan) between the computers on your network.  To do this download and install Hello for Windows for your XP from here.  If your XP already has a version of Hello (installed by iTunes), uninstall before installing this version.

Run it and it will find the printer connected to your Mac.  Make sure that your Mac is enabled and that it is set to never sleep (System Preferences > energy saver).

  • Want 5530, wireless, printing from a laptop Mac and Windows 7

    Hello

I've just set up my new Envy 5530 wireless printer on my iMac (running Mac OS 10.9), I can print comes it very well, even from my iPhone / iPad. I also posted an e-mail to her address and that works very well, too.

However, I also have a laptop HP ProBook 6455 b and I'd like to be able to print wirelessly, of him also. But this does not work, I'm unable to install the printer using the "Devices and printers" Wizard on Windows 7.

    I went to:

Control Panel > hardware and sound > devices and printers > add a printer > add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer. This printer is not found, even when it is on and the rest of my devices can see and print on it.

Do I need to download and install the drivers for Windows 7 from hp.com? Or is there something that I am not making the invisible to my Windows 7 computer printer?

Thanks in advance for your help,

    David G.

    Hi David G.,.

I understand that you can not get the printer connected to your Windows laptop. You are on the right track, you need to download HP ENVY 5530 e-all-in-one of the printer drivers. Select your operating system, and then click the button "next". Scroll down and click on "Driver - Product Installation software. Click Printer series e-all-in-one HP Envy 5530 full feature software and driver. This should bring up the download page, click on the 'Download' button and I suggest saving it to your desktop and run the installation from there.

I hope this helps, let me know.

    Thank you

  • Set up a wireless printer to a wireless network and to a computer with windows 7

My question is this; I would like to set up my HP 4500 wireless printer to a wireless network and on my laptop windows 7 at the same time. Does make a difference if I put it to the computer first, or the first wireless network?

Just follow the instructions that came with the printer.    Your computer is required to install the printer, so the work of the computer first would be a good idea.

OK, unplug the USB cable from your printer and your PC.  Leave the telephone line connected like that.

Now, to get an Ethernet cable (it looks like a large telephone cable) and plug it in between your router and the printer.  An alternative is to connect to the wireless printer, but it will have to have the wireless option.  This subtemplate is (a909a, n b or g)?

  • Set up a wireless printer, but do not think that it is password protected

    Hello

I recently bought the wireless HP Deskjet 3520 printer.

I set up the fine and was able to get my laptop wireless without having to use the USB cord.  I can print wireless from laptop, iPhone, etc.

I have a secure WiFi network.  During the wireless set up, he never asked me to assign a password to the printer, but when I search networks I see my secure network (which is protected) and the printer that doesn't look like not to protect (it says network in parenthesis).

    My questions:

    (1) can anyone with a wireless signal, see my printer and send items to him, or is it only the people who have used the password to get on my wireless network?

    (2) if the printer is open to the public, how can I go about securing it with a password?  I'd rather have a smartphone or tablet should put a password in that to have some edge com be able to print to my printer.

    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Yes, it is possible that someone in the range of your printer to connect to the printer and send a job if you don't fix your printer or your router with a password. It depends on your neighborhood, I guess.

In your printing wireless configuration, direct wireless is disabled because you need not currently, and impression of your network is secure from intruders outside with the password of your router.

When you enable direct wireless with security, you will be guaranteed of intruders outside with the password of your printer. If you have enabled direct wireless without security, the printer will be open for prints unsolicited since there is no password.

    Best regards.

  • laptop to wireless printer connectivity

I have a locked box truck in which I want to set up a wireless network between my laptop and a wireless printer. My laptop has internet connectivity via an aircard card. A basic router will solve my problem? There is no modem, only the laptop and printer wireless, in which I want to connect wireless. Any help appreciated.

    Thank you

You don't need a router for that.

Without a router, you can create a wireless ad - hoc between the laptop and the printer.  See, for example, http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c00205926

    Many successes of Google more

The security problem is that XP does support (easily hacked) WEP encryption in wireless ad-hoc mode. On the other hand, nobody's going very far from trying to connect to your printer. Just make sure you don't leave the laptop to active ad hoc wireless network when you are not printing.

If you get an inexpensive wireless router, you can connect the laptop to the router by an Ethernet cable or wireless.  In this configuration, you will be able to use wireless more secure (WPA or WPA2) security that supports the link (computer or printer).

In both cases, do not install (or disable) sharing files and printers for Microsoft Networks in the properties of the network card on the laptop.

Of course, the three devices, only the laptop is likely to be able to operate without available 110vac, you will need to buy some sort of power supply to convert the truck 12VCC power.  Make sure that you add the requirements of power of the appliances that you will probably use in order to get a converter with a sufficient capacity.  I don't have any specific recommendations, but I don't tell you want it a little and do not go for the cheaper product.

  • Set up a wireless HP all-in-one printer on your desktop with Windows XP Pro Version 5.1 SP3

Recently, I uninstalled Solution Center HP from my desktop PC with Windows XP Pro Version 5.1 SP3.  The program worked very well and was connected wireless to my HP Photosmart all-in-One 309 g.

Now, when I downloaded the latest software feature full HP and installed, it has completed the installation but could not connect to the wireless printer.  Setting up the wireless printer, he did 'see' the HP 309 g printer and I chose this but it gave me a dialog box saying that there was no installation configuration.  I also, tried the control panel "Add Hardware", but he couldn't 'find' the printer.  What should I do?

You have an icon for the 309 g Photosmart in Start menu > printers and faxes?

If so, right-click on it, select Properties, and click the Ports tab.
By ensuring NOT to click inside the list, use the scroll bar on the right until you see the line highlighted and verified with the port used for this printer.  That said this line in the columns 'Port' and 'Description '?

Note that you may need to click and drag on the small vertical line between 'Port' and 'Description' in the header line to make the column wide enough to read the entire entry.

Click Cancel to exit the printer properties dialog box.

  • Wireless print do not!

Hello, I hope you can solve my problem.
I have problems printing from my laptop to my network printer.
I have a HP Pavilion laptop model # ZV5000.SR # 0003286257 I have the Windows XP operating system. I have the impression of all-in-one HP Officejet 5610. I have a router Linksys WRT54G 2 .4GHz. The type system is PC based X 86.
I followed the instructions of the Print Wizard. I tried a Flash Drive, a USB cable and the startup disk to locate the printer on the network to the laptop wireless, all nothing will do. I downloaded the printer driver on my laptop and also checked the print spooler.
I tried to connect the laptop to the printer through a direct line by cable, without success.
The desktop computer is directly connected to the printer and has no problem printing. The printer is set on 'Share this printer' on the laptop and desktop. The icon of the printer on my laptop was shared, but I changed that don't share does not to see if that was the problem. I disconnected temporarily my firewall to allow the Print Wizard trying to connect. All with no luck.
I went on the site Web of Linksys to check a problem server to print, and to my knowledge, everything is very well implemented.
I would be grateful for other things to try. Thank you.
