Setting up a Vmware ESXi Server

I have a Tower Server certified vSphere, ESXi (5.0) I installed on a USB key without any problems.

After installation and reboot however I'm greeted by a screen asking you to access 192.168.1.104 (assigned automatically by my network switch) to access the download tools for installing Vcenter, etc.

Here are the best... I don't have internet connection on the network. All I have is a wireless router connected to this server, then a laptop, access to the network. When I try to access the IP address, even if I can't access even if when I ping it it comes back fine.

Welcoem to the community - when installing ESXi and didn't assign is not an IP address by default for obtaining an IP via DHCP - how your server managed to get his IP - the next step you have to do ispoint a web browser for download vSphere client that will allow you to interact with the host via a GUI interface. -If you are unable to connect to via a browser for your host, then I looked at wireless router to make fur it's not filtering HTTP traffic.

  • VMware ESXi serving SMB to a windows network?

I have a friend who has a small business. It has about a half dozen windows on desktop machines. On the backend, it has a pretty Beefy Server (AMD Phenom X 3, 8 GB of RAM, RAID 3 to matrix). He runs VMware Server 2.0 on a box of CentOS 5.x, and he has two XP VMs on this box. It also has a very large partition on this machine, which he is serving as the several stock through Samba for desktop computers.

Unfortunately, VMware Server got a little, uh, flaky with current versions of Linux. I had problems with it on a Debian installation and there has been a power outage a couple of weeks, and the server would not be back for two or three days. Then he called me.

Now I would like to convert him on VMware ESXi (3.5 or 4.0, since the machine is 64-bit), but remains the problem of the samba shares. Is it possible for esxi for a second or subsequent data store and serve as actions for windows machines? I had thought to build an another VM to serve these files, but that is not good. Looks like another layer of obfuscation, it is a bit nervous about trusting to its archives (some date back to 1992) of VMware with the experience he had with the server. Does anyone know of another (better?) way?

    Thank you

On ESX and ESXi, it is not the part of 'server' of file server protocols.

And as noted before, the best choice is to create a virtual machine that act as a file server.

  • Conversion of VMware ESXi server - even material?

The best practical Suggestions needed to convert virtual machines on VMware Server ESXi using the same material.

We were real happy with VMware Server 1.0 x, but want to take advantage of the features in ESXi 3.5 and get rid of Windows as the OS boot.  VMware Converter would work well if I had a standby server (which I did not.)

I have a Dell Latitude D830 w/4 GB of RAM, 160 GB drive HARD internal 500 GB USB external disk HARD Windows XP SP2 w/VMware Workstation 6 available as a new Mac laptop similar hardware config Fusion running.

I think I could use one of the laptops to run ESXi as a virtual guest, VMware Workstation or Fusion, then convert machine virtual de VMware server here.  Once those who are converted can I fdisk VMware server box, install ESXi and simply move the virtual guests converted from the laptop to the ESXi box.

Am I anywhere near or are there any other suggestions to achieve this?

    TIA

    garyrm,

Welcome to the VMware Community Forums!

I think I could use a laptop to run ESXi as guest virtual VMware Workstation or Fusion, and then convert the virtual de VMware server machine it

ESXi shouldn't be not installed as a guest operating system.  One, he is not taken in charge and two, it is CATASTROPHIC in BAD PERFORMANCE.

    If you:

    1. turn off the virtual machines in vmware server 1.0

2 copy and paste somewhere (usb/network drive on your laptop)

    3. install ESXi

    4. use the converter to the image of stand alone.

    that should work just fine.

  • With ISA Server 2006 on VMWare ESXi

    Hello

I installed isa server 2006 on a vmware esxi, server is the Server Blade HP Proliant dl380 G5 with 2 NIC the 1st network adapter, the ip address is 10.10.1.42, and it will be the external ip address because it is connected to the firewall with internet. The 2nd NIC ip is 10.10.1.43 and this is the only internally. I tried to test the connection to the isa by creating a rule to ping of localhost (isa) in-house, but it failed.

I wanted to just my isa to be a web proxy, but from what I've read on some forums, I can not install isa on vmware? Can someone help me? Thank you.

If you are running firewall ISA in ESXi host. It is doable. I guess it will be a unique Web cache system (no Firewall Advanced)

This can be done on a unihomed Server (NETWORK card)

  • BB10 Simulator on Vmware ESXi

I'm trying to get the BB10 Simulator to work on a VMWare ESXi server. Here's what I've done so far:

    1. Installed the Simulator on yhe development machine, started VMWare workstation, open the vmx file and downloaded the VM on the ESXi server.
    2. Disabled 3D acceleration on the machine virtual (on ESX) and selected 'Full touch safe mode' after starting the virtual machine.

At this point, the virtual computer screen displays the IP 'telnet ftp ssh qconn', the axis of the device and the build number.

The next step is to connect the Momentics IDE to this virtual machine.

The Simulator is in need of a vmx file configuration dialog box (likely to run vmware specific commands). In the configuration of ESXi, there is no vmx file.

If I try to connect to the virtual machine by IP address, I need a device password, I did not.

Someone at - it suggestions on what do I do now?

In response to my own question because I found the answer:

Now that I have the IP address, I just follow the steps described in

    http://supportforums.BlackBerry.com/T5/native-development/BB10-native-Cascades-SDK-not-connecting-to...

Because I had never set up a password for the Simulator, I left the empty password field.

    Copy-paste the details:

    Of your IDE

-Right click on your project in the Project Explorer

-Go to Blackberry tools and click on configure target...

-Click Add new target it... button and enter the IP address of your Simulator in the host name or IP address field, enter your password if you have one then click on finish

To run your application on the Simulator:

-In the Project Explorer view, double click on file bar - descriptor.xml, then click on chip Debug Set button to set the author of the application information.

-Set the configuration of the correct version for the Simulator first by right-clicking on your project and selecting Configurations of Build > Set Active > 4 Simulator-Debug.

-In the Project Explorer view, right-click the project and select build project.

-Right click on the project again, and then select run as > BlackBerry Application C/C++.

  • ESXi server RAID

I'm looking to set up a computer with vmware esxi server with raid 5.  The advice I have is a intel dg33tl.  I was looking for a map of RAID controller supporting RAID 5.  What I read the PCIe x 1 has a transfer rate of 250 MB/s, which I suppose it will have to share with all the connected drives.  If I had to stay with the built-in SATA ports, then the data transfer rate would be about 300 MB/s per SATA port.

My system has a q6700 with 6 GB of RAM.

    My question:

It would be better to install a system to use the esx server and configure my system with RAID 5 with the on-board or should I get a RAID controller for the server esxi PCIe x 1 slot card and Setup.  I'm looking for better overall performance.

    Thank you in advance.

On the one hand, his stats are overrated.  For another you are talking BURST MAX @ 300 MB/s and a RAID card can give you sustained transfer to can a LOT higher than the SATA drives.  SATA is controlled by the CPU, RAID can discharge of the Board of Directors and RAID have cache, most of the SATA controllers are not.

Don't believe the hype.  SATA is good for archives and applications of single player, they CAN NOT measure in any RAID card.  Those are numbers not world real marketing.

I installed VMware ESXi on my Cisco's UCS server but after that I don't get from CIMC. also, I am unable to ping the address IP of CIMC. Any help?

I think that MMIC does nothing with your ESXi installation... it is OoB management for servers of the UCS.

Check your config MMIC inside the BIOS again.

  • VCenter Server first to 5.5.0U3b update and later update of VMware ESXi ESX / will I have problems?

    Hello

have trouble when I first updated my signature single vCenter Server and later update my vSphere hosts?

A vCenter Server Version 5.5.0U3b should be able to manage vSphere Host Version 5.5.0 GA, right?

    Kind regards

    Roland

The vCenter Server 5.5 update 3 b can manage VMware ESXi ESX release GA to 5.5 5.5 update 3 b, take a look: VMware product interoperability Matrices

BUT, according to the interoperability matrices and vCenter Server 5.5 update 3 release notes, VMware strongly recommends you upgrade your hosts to 5.5 update 3 b, see:

    What's new

    • Update Support for the SSLv3 Protocol is disabled by default
Note: In your vSphere environment, you must update vCenter Server vCenter Server 5.5 update 3 b before the update to 5.5 ESXi ESXi update 3 b. vCenter Server will not be able to manage 3B ESXi 5.5 update, if you update ESXi before update vCenter Server to version 5.5 update 3 b. For more information about the sequence in which vSphere environments must be updated, see KB 2057795.
    • VMware strongly recommends you update ESXi hosts to ESXi 5.5 update 3 b management of vCenter Server 5.5 updated 3B.
VMware does not recommend the reactivation of SSLv3 because of the vulnerability of POODLE. If all you must enable SSLv3, you must activate the SSLv3 Protocol for all components. For more information, see

  • Installation of VMware ESXI 6 in my server

    Hi all

I have a server that I have configured with raid 1 using the disk on the Server utility.

When I try to install VMWare ESXI on the server, in the part of the selection of the disk to install the ESXY appears only the physical disks and not the virtual drives configured in table mode. What should I do?

    Concerning

    Milton Aguiar

You are probably using some (aka 'false') 'software' edge RAID controller. These controllers require additional driver software to work. However, VMware supports only the real hardware RAID controllers, which are transparently logical volumes to the OS. Unless your hardware provider offering dedicated to ESXi drivers (HP as much I know as fact for some of theit controllers of Type B) you may not use the RAID on board.
