setting up of a second NETWORK adapter on the ESX machine...

I'm in the part of my ESX machine and I NIC one configured for LAN, but I try to activate and configure a second NETWORK adapter on this computer, so I can connect it to a VLAN different. When I go I see the place to allow the second NETWORK card (and I have) but it says always "disconnected" and I see only the settings for the first NETWORK adapter in the IP configuration screen. How can I set an IP address and stuff for the second NETWORK card, and why is it showing as offline after that I went out and restarted the management stuff?

Go under ESX / Configuration / networks.

You will see your vSwitch. You can change it or click Add, to add a new vSwitch.

  • How to associate a VM for the second network adapter on the host

    Hello

I have created a virtual machine and added a NIC that matches the first physical network adapter on the host Machine. I then added a second NETWORK adapter on the host. I would like to create the second network adapter on the same VM and map it on the second NETWORK adapter on the host. How can this be achieved.

When I use the "Add Hardware", I does not enumerate the physical network adapters on the host to choose and assigns a VM mac address.

    Kind regards.

VMware customers use virtual network adapters if you need for a great, a second deck on the host card, but how to do this depends on the host OS.

For Linux, just run vmware - config.pl and choose to create a second bridged network adapter, choose the right pair of physics.

For Windows, run vmnetcfg.exe (as an administrator), disable the automatic bypass and then manually fill the two physical network adapters (for example to create two VMnet adapters * with each mapping to a different physical NIC). You also need to restart the host VMware Agent services and VMware Server Web Access before these virtual cards will be available for use.

  • Dedicated network adapter to the virtual machine and the host computer not let can visit his profile

OK, here's my question, I know how to give themselves a phyiscal nic to a vmware, but I wanted to take it one step further and do not leave the host send or receive data from this network card, only the virtual machine can use this network/NIC...

Here's my reasoning, I have to network conections, one is for my internal/field network and the second is a direct connection to the internet (Comcast) I don't want to use to separate the machines have for internet connection, I want to be on the same machine phyiscal and have just the vmware machine talking to comcast... is it possible?  I am running VMware workstation 7, last update.

    Thank you

    Cdrshm

I assume you are using a Windows host?

    If Yes...

-first set up networking networking with vmnetcfg.exe

-assign vmnet0 to the network card for the internal network

-assign vmnet2 to the network card used for direct access to the internet

-Right-click on the map network-icon in the systray and access the properties of the network adapter for vmnet2

-Disable all other protocols and the Protocol of vmware_bridge for this network adapter

result: a virtual machine that uses vmnet2 can directly access the internet and the host has no IP address for this network adapter - and therefore cannot use it.

  • Assign a physical NETWORK adapter to the virtual machine

    Hey everybody,

I did some research, but found answers to Linux and not Windows. Here's my situation:

I'm running a physical machine with Dual Gigabit Lan and Windows 7 Pro. I would like to have all my virtual machines that I run under VmWare Workstation 6.5.3 using the 2nd physical NETWORK adapter on the mpotherboard. Is this possible? How do I? Thank you.

    Hello

You can specify in the virtual network Editor (Edit toolbar option)

    See the attached picture.

If you can't change that... go to the previous "self-link" tab and uncheck the box

  • best way to put up a second NETWORK adapter for the data on NAS Server store

I want to add a second NETWORK card if I can get the best possible performance for when I move the data store of the ESXi host to the NAS (which will also have a dual NIC). What is the best way to set up the NETWORK card on the ESXi host to achieve?

PS - I am aware that I am limited to the real network speed of 1 Gbps and conditions and I agree with that (any of the virtual machines are eager resources or production).

SOLVED... I think so. JPM300 got on the right track, but I was still not clear on it so I googled all this involving and finally landed on an iSCSI with MPIO configuration. I ended up as a result of this article (I use a Synology DS415 +, but the steps are pretty universal): How to use iSCSI targets on VMware ESXi with Multipath i/o - SynologyWiki. The article is old but always worked perfectly for me. I checked the two paths/NIC are used simultaneously, but I did not actual test to see if I have 200 MB/s of bandwidth (I've seen 80 MB/s when the cloning of virtual machines to the new iSCSI data store using vmfstools).

I ran into a problem where the second path is not added during the alternating market; I removed the path shown and then was able to add the second path, then the first path again.

    Hope this helps someone.

  • Adding a new NETWORK adapter to the ESX Server

I have an ESX 3.5 server that has two NIC onboard.  I decided that I will join the ESX Server to the SAN, so I need these two NICS for iSCSI.  I'm going to install a NETWORK card in the PCI - X slot.  Unfortunately, without GUI, I'm confused as to how it will work.  Can someone give me some advice on how to add a new NETWORK card?  I checked esxcfg and I don't know if that's what I'm trying to use.  Any help would greatly be appreciated.

In the VI client, you should be able to go on the tab network management under configuration see the NIC it to add them to the correct vSwitch.

  • Specify a physical NETWORK adapter to a virtual machine

It is a fundamental issue, or it was in VMware Server 1.x, but in v2.x options may not be available.  Here's what I do:

I have a physical host with 3 different network interface cards installed. I want to configure the vNIC on each of my 2 mV at one of the physical network cards, so they each have their own. In VMware server 1.x I would install a vmnet # for each NETWORK adapter and then configure each virtual computer to use one of the new vmnet I set everything up. VMware Server 2, I can still set up since both vnet (one for each NETWORK card), but when I go to change settings of NETWORK adapter in the virtual machine, I have three options (Bridged, host-only and NAT). Two of these two new vnets are "bridge", but I need to specify a fo the vnet jumpered for each.

I know I must be missing something very simple, do not hesitate to point out my mistake. Thank you!

What is your host operating system? If Windows, run the virtual network Editor (vmnetcfg.exe) announces the administrator, disable the automatic bypass and map each physical NIC to another VMNet adapter * in the tab "virtual host network address." If Linux, run /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl (it will take your virtual machines off / suspension) and choose to create more than one Bridged network when you are prompted, choosing different logical names and specitying eth0, eth1, eth2 or whatever they are called.

Then in the virtual machine, they must appear in the drop-down list for the card that you have.

  • Assign an individual ethernet NETWORK adapter to a virtual machine

    Hi all

We wish you a new year filled with joy and happiness.

I just install ESX 4.1.0 and vsphere 4.1.0.

I have a couple of additional NIC cards available in the ESX Server. I would like to assign to each VM.

I have configured the virtual switch as "vswitch0" and all additional NIC cards appear on this switch. But I couldn't find a way to permanently assign a NETWORK adapter to a virtual machine specific.

I have 3 NICs and I intend to have 3 VM.

    Anyone can guide me please.

    Thank you

    Krishna

An option is to create 3 virtual machine port groups and assign each virtual machine to one of them. In the configuration of the port group, set a NIC to 'Active' and the other two to 'Sleep'. In this way each VM uses a dedicated NETWORK card and - failure - switches to one of the others.

  • Adding a second NETWORK card on the server HP Proliant ML 350 G5

I have a new HP Proliant with a guest of Windows 2008.  HP came with two network cards on the MB.  I need double-home this box on both networks, at least for a while, and this server will be the only road between subnets.  It's just a stand-alone installation inset.

I looked in the settings of the BIOS on the HP and it's a little confusing, but I'm sure that the second network card is active (it lights up when it is plugged).  When I try to add a NETWORK adapter to the configuration of the host, it is as if the second NETWORK card is not present.

My question is what is the best way to add this second NETWORK adapter and how do I do that?

I'll need access to the host of the VI Client on both networks - at least for a while.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you go to configuration-card network in the vSphere client is the 2nd NETWORK card that there are listed?  If ESXi is able to recognize the NETWORK adapter (or other people that you add) they should appear in this list without any config changes and be ready for use.

What kind of networks are you fill?   If one is considered not secure you could be better not add a management on this network port and prefer to have access via a VPN VM or a secure hosted VM / dual.
