several large files on Virtual Machines

I checked my drive with OmniDiskSweeper space today and saw that virtual machines takes a huge part of my (about 11 GB) disk space. Windows 7 x64.vmwarevm I find several files named Windows 7 x 64-s, followed by a long number of three digits (s001 s005 and s016). Each of them is 2 GB.

Are these duplicates? If so, are they safe to delete?

In my Finder window, it appears as a large file of 12 GB

Thank you!

Absolutely not!  Do not delete these files!  Also I strongly suggest that you stay out of the packaging of the Virtual Machine unless you really know what you are doing!   If you want to free up disk space then turn off AutoProtect, if it is turned on and then delete all the snapshots then Clean Up a virtual hard drive.

When I go to several virtual desktops using VMware View 4, I am able to copy files between virtual machines. Virtual machines are located in various isolated networks. It is a security problem in my organization and how do I disable this feature? I am not able to find any related configuration in sight connection to the server. Thank you!

I assume you are using RDP as the Protocol currently, correct?

In this case, you will need to implement some GPO:s in the workstations to avoid copy and paste.

Look in the 'Extras' folder on the view connection server, there are a number of ADM files that you can implement to restrict all sorts of things.

  • Cannot copy file to virtual machine host computer

    People,

Hello. I use VM Player 3. My host computer is Windows 7 and VM is Oracle Linux 5. I used to copy files from the virtual machine host successfully machine. But now, when I copy a virtual machine host machine zip file, the error message appears:

"Unable to write file in Virtual Machine.Aborting the copy file operation."

The virtual machine's memory is 2 GB, and the file is about 900 MB. I think that there is enough memory to hold the file.

    My question is:

Any folk can help solve the question above?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

To be able to copy this file in your virtual machine, you need about 2 GB of free space on the disk in the virtual machine on the disk that has the temp folder.

The size of the RAM to the virtual machine is not really important.

  • How do I 'batch' closing of a large number of virtual machines on a single order?

We have performance issues with some programs that a large number of machines virtual shutdown.  Steve Jin here mentions on his blog that there is a number of API and batch processing.  I can't find on the subject if and would just like to send a command to stop, a large number of virtual machines.  Multi-threading applications for judgment has not been effective or possible.

If someone could point me to the right direction, I would be grateful.   Thank you!

    Sean Clark - vExpert 2009, VCPX3 - http://twitter.com/vseanclark - http://seanclark.us - http://vmunderground.com

    Hey Sean,

I'm not familiar with batch API too many orders, but I'm guessing that you're referring to:

    Turning the power on

    Power off

As you probably know, there are a lot of API command to power on a set of virtual machines, but there is not one to turn off. It maybe an internal/private API to power off the coast, but I have not heard/seen it.

If your question is around Steve Jin VI Java API, maybe hit him up on top of this blog, you probably a more precise answer and if this isn't the case, I think he'll be able to help directly as well.

  • Possible for the host to read the files on virtual machines?

Is it possible for a host read files on virtual machines?

If you can get information using vmrun command, then I think that vmware-cmd command will help to define the variables that can think inside the vmx file. As vmx file is inside ESX server only so that you can shut down the VM and edit the vmx file, then you can register to the virtual machine using the vmware-cmd command.

    Thank you

The RPM of samba must exist in the CD of RHEL itself. in any case, you can use winSCP tool to your windows host.

  • connect several LUN to a virtual machine

    Hi all

I was wondering is it possible to connect multiple LUNS to a Linux VM? We want to store data from different departments in separate LUN. Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hello.

Yes, you can present several as RDM LUN to a virtual machine.  I have a Windows file server built exactly as you described, using the same approach.

    Good luck!

  • Migration of a large number of virtual machines between servers

I have a single ESX server and VirtualCenter (vSphere 4).

I need to migrate all my virtual machines (30) to a new server, I'm.  They are all turned off (I use them as test beds a small number at a time).

For the transition, I added two servers in my data center vCenter. I can migrate each VM individually, but it will be extremely painful and long.

If anyone can recommend a way for me to start moving all virtual machines and let it run for a few days or longer, however it takes, perhaps through orders in the Service Console or?

    Thank you!

As long as the virtual machine have several virtual disks on different banks of data/files, you should be able to copy files by using for example Veeam FastSCP.

If you have disks to different stores of data/files, you will need to reconfigure the virtual computer on the target (changing settings or edit the VMX file) because of UUID data warehouses.

Before copying the files on the new host:

-remove all attached CD/DVD or ISO virtual machine

-Reset default CPU flags, see KB1011294 - a host processor is not compatible error message...

  • How to add several records of existing virtual machines

Is it possible to add several drives in one shot to a virtual machine?

I know it's possible with the new - vm cmdlet, and if I manually modify the virtual machine, I can add as much as I want.

The cmdlet New-hard drive allows only 1 at a time, I can say.

    Any suggestions?

You are right, that the cmdlet New - hard drive allows the addition of 1 HDD at the time.

If you want to add several hard disks, you will need to use the ReconfigVM_Task method.

  • File groups - relationship of files to virtual machines

    Good afternoon

I have a small question on the mappings of file-to-vm. It seems that the mapping is not recursive (in other words, if I select a folder, I only see relations for the direct descendants of this folder). It was a design decision, or I'm looking in the wrong place? I would get reports for planning of Operations Manager vCenter capacity, my machines are grouped into folders and subfolders according to their activity, for example:

    • Sales VMS
      • Servers
        • VM1
        • VM2
      • Desktop computers
        • VM3
        • VM4
    • VMs marketing
      • Servers
        • VM5
        • VM6
      • Desktop computers
        • VM7
        • VM8

Report on the 'virtual computers sales' will give no virtual machine in the report "list of Virtual Machines. Reports on the 'sales VMs\Servers' will show VM1 and VM2. What happens if I want a report for sales, including the "Servers" and "desktop"? I can confirm that this relationship does not perform at the level of the "Environment/Overview".

    It is certainly not intuitive.

    Thanks for your suggestions,

I am mistaken, I thought the tag filtering behavior. Relationships get built for 5.8 records.

The problem you have is you run a report in a folder (Group), but it runs only a report on the immediate members if the Group and not recursively digging groups of children. To remedy this, you can run a new group dynamic in the advanced user interface that has the criteria "descendants of" the name of the parent folder...  AND the object type = VM. Then the group will fill the virtual machines of all groups under this group of parents recursively.

  • removal of large size of virtual machine snapshot, esxi 4.0.0 (208167)

    Dear Experts,

I am looking for assistance before you do this step, remove the snapshot of a virtual machine (NNMi-Test), 100 GB thick disk has been assigned to this virtual machine when it is created. After the installation of the operating system, we took a snapshot. Explained user had to test something on this one and we wanted as if during the tests of some problem occur due to the facilities at least that we can return to the fresh install of OS snapshot.

After that we missed by mistake that we had seen on this machine. Now I want to delete this single snapshot, but its size is now KB 26,182,660. The current state of the machine, we want to keep, it's OK with us.

I can proceed without fear of deleting, I should say 'remove all' OR 'delete '. Image is attached here with. This machine is the "EVAstorage2" data store and 193 GB is free on this subject.

There is another virtual host below computers run on it, I also need help with clichés:

-machine virtual (NNMi) , assigned to 150 GB thick disk, also have same instant problem has been created and it is now 7.7 GB,.

This machine is on "EVAstorage1" and is 221GB free space

-virtual machine (Bukhari), assigned thick 150 GB, also named snapshot after operating system installation and size soft

this wink, shot is now showing only 128GB

I have attached the images of the three machines I need assistance for: NNMi-Test, NNMi Bukhari

Please note that the Esxi is 4.0.0 (208167)

Please help me and require further details before giving an answer to me, please ask me. Also, keep in mind there are also other virtual machines on the same 'EVAstorage1' and 'EVAstorage2' data with disk available warehouses thin and little with thick disk.

    Kind regards

    Jocelyn

The GUI seems to check the hard of the last snapshot file in the chain to see if it contains an entry "ddb.thinProvisioned". Because this entry is present in the hard disk basic GUI file guess a thick disc put into service.

I suggest that you remove the snasphot of a single virtual machine at the same time and that after opening hours. Please make sure that there are no application backup or other task that would try to create a snapshot of this machine that performs the erase process.

I wouldn't worry too much about the size of the snapshot or any performance impact, just be patient and wait as the deletion process at the end (which could take a while).

The maximum required temporarily on the disk with a single snapshot is about the size of the snapshot itself more space for a snapshot of assistance, which contains changes to the virtual machine, while the removal is underway.

    He

    $devVMs = c:\listofvms.txt

    in

the script to point to a list of virtual machines, such as a list of Windows 2008 64-bit

VMs, vms 32 bit Windows 2003 as another list etc. instead of making a virtual machine

    at the same time.

The two functions are for features to add memory to warm and the VM OS per CPU.

    Function Enable-MemHotAdd ($vm) {$vmview = Get - vm $vm |} Get-view$ vmConfigSpec = New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineConfigSpec$ extra = New-Object VMware.Vim.optionvalue$ extra. You can save this script in a .ps1 file.

After have connected you to the vCenter (Connect-VIServer), you run the script from the prompt PowerCLI.

    .\myscript.ps1

It will read all the guestnames that you stored in the .txt file and for each of these calls to the function.

If you need to address another group of guests you modify the contents of the .txt file and run the script again.

  • Stop several hosts and the virtual machine on the host computers

Sorry to bother the community again. Right now I have a script that stop or suspend virtual machines on a host in order using an external file to store the order (with the help of lamw). The plan is for the script to reside in a virtual centre with multiple hosts. The script must be able to stop the vm on the host, the closure of the host (to be ordered the same idea with the external file), then jump to the next host and continue the same process. I tried to create nested for loops this task, but it doesn't seem to work. Any help would be appreciated. I have attached the script. Thanks in advance

I think you try to only syspend or stop each VM and then stop the host.

    This code might help.

  • where on my Mac "file" a virtual machine?

I'm new to VM Fusion. Used to extract the partition Boot Camp on my old MacBook, and I copied the whole file (almost 5 concerts) to my MacBook Air.

So now this file called "Boot Camp partition" is sitting on my desk.

    (1) where I can drop it so this VM Fusion can find when I start the program? In the Documents folder? In some folder that VM Ware sets up for such things? Simple question, but I have no idea...

    (2) can I rename it to something more descriptive, since it is a copy of the virtual machine to reside on my Boot Camp partition?

Other than these issues, it seems to work perfectly.

    Thanks for the help,

    David

The default location for the virtual machine based on a normal file is "$The specified element was not found./Documents/Virtual Machines" but you can put where you want that you have proper access to the.

You can rename directly from the Virtual Machine library window.
