Several problem data merge Page
Hey all,.
I'm doing a data merge to create a product catalog and having a small issue.
My catalog has 5 rows and 1 column per page. I have guides Setup for this.
I have the first installation of the product data fusion and you can get an overview of the information are imported acorss from my CSV file. I can change the pages and all information will be updated according to the CSV file. This part works fine.
My problem strives to bring to merge into several pages. I can't merge onto a single page.
When you go to "Create a Document merged", choose "All Records", "multiple records per Page.
When I choose "Cliché recording Multiple Preview" shows nothing outside of the first row.
If I'm trying to merge, he created approximately 40 new pages, exact copies of the first leaf, but with the new entires of CSV.
Here's what I would like 5 times per page.
I tried to play with margins in the preview (I haven tried to hide with the margins, and then merge, I was hoping I could find a simple solution without merging several times)
I watched several videos on YouTube, The InDesigner and searched this site but could not find something to help with my problem.
Any help would be appreciated to grealtey!
Many thanks in advance,
several records per page presupposes that the data to be cloned are all that is in the indesign file then and there. This applies to:
- all the graphics in the background
- the master page items
without seeing the pdf file and simply looking at the screengrab, I would say it is the question, but I could be wrong. try to get rid of all graphics except for what is meant to merge and try to re-run the multiple records per page.
and Yes, that means that all the graphics in the background must be set ONCE the merger is completed. an easier way to do this is to save them in another indesign file. and once the datamerge is finished, go to the pages palette and load master pages from the other indesign file.
This help at all?

Data merge several people on one page
I create a file of data merge to create a travelogue of emergency contacts. The previous file was done in Publisher (YUCK) and needs to be rethought. I'm trying to set up the file properly in InDesign to perform a data merge in which there are 3 contacts per page (one primary, secondary and substitute for each county in New York). See below
Currently, I can't figure out how to get multiple contacts on a single page. The way it is set up now, I can get information for a person to appear on each Board.
Any ideas on how to help?
You have the same problem with which I tried to help in this thread: repeat pages
As you've found data merge InDesign really only merges a record of several sets of fields... OR (what you want)... multiple records to a set of fields.
So what you need is just a set of fields; one. Follow these steps:
And delete everything except the first page.
- Now, with emphasis on the page of the document (and not his mistress), choose Create a merged Document in the data merge Panel menu.
- Tab records the dialog box create a merged Document, choose multiple records in the accounts rendered by menu Page of the document.
- Check the box saw several shot record.
- Switch to Multiple record layout tab and set the controls to set folders as desired (3 per page) while previewing in real-time.

merge data master pages - problem
OK - I posted prematurely b4 that I could do it successfully but am stuck with a problem that is a show-stopper.
I have a master page spread [left and right pages] who has several fields that I fill out on over 200 pages with the data merge. I got this works ok, but the problem is that the fusion only works on the first master page - and since InDesig starts automatically with a right-hand page - it would be the 2nd page of my spread - I can get the two pages to merge the data correctly, but I end up with a right hand start page - then a left page facing a right-hand page which is not for the same record, but the account given below. Is tehre any way level this? Is tehre a way I can force inDesign to start with a left page?
Change the same to something starting page number.

InDesign CS4 Excel data merge on the master page problem
Hi all
I had the following problem with an automated data merge document. He reads only the first row of cells in the document. That's what I did.
Examples of data
Excel
Colum A Cel A1: Articlenummer
Cel A2 12345
Cel A3 5465
Colum B Cel B1 Description
Cel B2 Test 1
Cel B3 Test 2
Barcode Colum C Cel C1
Cel C2 90000
Cel C3 900001
On the master page, I made a layout with the folling containers. The diagram below is for 1 item.
Text for Articlenummer container
Contatiner text for Description
For the barcode text container
I copied the three containers on the page which resulted in the master page with 40 containers for each item.
I went data merge and connected the TXT document to the first set of containers. InDesign reads the data and place it correctly. But Indesign doenst copy the data in the row of the cell in the following sets of containters. If I connect the document to the next set of containers that indesign don't bed that the data of the first line of the cell which results in a document that contains only the same data.
Somehelp with that does
Best regards
Phillip
I suspect what happens, that's what I described in my previous post, PARAGRAPH:
«Indesign takes what he considers a "record" what on the page, that is from the top left to the bottom right of the page, any indesign objects can enter it considers only a record.»
It's a little hard to explain so I'll demonstrate in images using a simple merge
If the finished merger looks like
but, if a chart is placed on the same page (whether the page master or not, doesn't matter) this is where things can go wrong
but this is easily seen in the preview
so, when you perform a merge of data with multiple records, the data of the variable must be treated separately to static data (items that will be on every page as a background, or in this example, the smiley face).
If the merger on a master page, static elements must be on a master page above and variable must be on a master BASED ON the static captain.
If the merger on a standard page, static elements must be on the master page. The advantage with fusion on a master page is that data remain linked. The downside is that a page can contain variable data in the merged file.
hope it makes sense.

Several data merge the results on a single page
Hello everyone,
I'm currently developing menus for my upcoming wedding, where everyone has already chosen what they are experiencing. I created a file .csv with four columns - name, Starter, main, Dessert.
I print these at home, I want them to be half (105 x 297 mm) A4 format, with two menus per page.
However, by the normal data merge, I end up with having the same menu twice on each page. So two menus on the page are the same person.
How do I set up so that I can have two different menus, the following entries in the file .csv, on the same page?
Thanks in advance.
Simon
Looks like you tried to put both menus on the page and perform a merge of several record.
To merge multiple records using only one set of placeholders on your page. Put it in the upper-left position. ID it dupliquera timeas as much as can fit in using the spacing settings you specify. It is often useful to use an empty block with no feature to define the area to perform the adjustment of the easier sapcing. Group them with your text, image (s).

Data merge problem - bad values when exporting PDF with "All folders" only
Hi - I have the weirdest problem with InDesign: I use merge data from .csv to create a deck of cards (9 per page), and when I export to PDF from the data merge Panel, one of my field has erroneous data: it uses values from previous records and which repeat.
What is strange, is that when the noticed, all right. Is also very good if I create a merged Document and PDF export. Is also very good if I export to PDF using just the range of entries it is play: I don't get that wrong data if export as PDF, "All records" in the data merge Panel. Very frustrating!
Someone saw? I feel that my data is ok, if the export of individual records is very well...
Cheers for any help.
Thank you! Which has me on the path to what looks like a fix...
Copy all the fields in a new file does not solve the problem - the same behavior, but after the start of charges, I started to adjust the sizes of the fields and stumbled upon a possible solution.
A field that trouble is a text box for a single digit, if limits are quite small. The name of the field for example placeholder.
> is bigger and complained of cut-off text. Increase the limits of the text box to be at least the size of the reliable placeholder text solves the problem. It decreases the size of a single digit... back of the problem. How weird.
Thanks Peter.

Export unique PDF pages to InDesign after the data merge
So I got this hitch with my last job that I can't move.
I'm generating nearly 700 labels of bag with the help of the data fusion which is each in their own PDF file with a unique file name.
My current process is:
- Open my file in InDesign.
- Data merge all labels like "creating a merged document.
- Run a script that does some minor changes and then automatically add bookmarks based on a paragraph style.
- Export a single pdf file containing all the labels.
Now, that's the thing that I meet. Initially, I thought open the PDF in acrobat and then divide the file based on the bookmark names - that works very well. However, I also need convert the text to outlines text, then the fonts don't get replaced by our supplier in China (long story). Ideally, I discovered Acrobat can do it himself, but unfortunately it can not be used for several single paged pdf files in the Action Wizard. If I vectorize the text before you split the pdf file, the bookmark naming convention does not seem to work...
I thought that this might work, but if there was a script that could export PDFs page of InDesign itself and use the paragraph style name. And then I could put just a pdf preset to underline the text. I can't find anything like those well...
So there's my pickle. I would be grateful for your suggestions!
Thanks in advance!
An any other Acrobat Pro script may be worth a try if you want to split based on. CSV:
/* https://forums.adobe.com/message/5551746 */ var CSV = function(data) { var _data = data.split('\r\n'); for(var i in _data) { if(_data[i].length > 0) { console.println(i + ' ' + _data[i]); _data[i] = _data[i].split(','); } } var _head = _data.shift(); return { length: function() { return _data.length - 1; }, getRow: function(row) { return _data[row]; }, getRowAndColumn: function(row, col) { if(typeof col !== 'string') { return _data[row][col]; } else { col = col.toLowerCase(); for(var i in _head) { if(_head[i].toLowerCase() === col) { return _data[row][i]; } } } } }; }; this.importDataObject("CSV Data"); var dataObject = this.getDataObjectContents("CSV Data"); var csvData = new CSV(util.stringFromStream(dataObject)); if(this.numPages != csvData.length()) { app.alert("Number of pages & CSV row count inconsistent"); } else { for(var i = 0; i < this.numPages; i++) { this.extractPages({nStart: i, cPath: csvData.getRowAndColumn(i, 'PartnerHQ_Id') + '.pdf'}); } }
Note that the column header is supposed to be (this can of course be changed on line 41 of the script code):
PartnerHQ_Id
PartnerHQ_Id

When I create a document merged with multiple records, items are usually right, but the problem is the title or header of the page is usually also replicated in each line.
Anyway is to separate certain objects/images/text/etc so that when I create the merged document (multiple records), he would not repeated those elements?
This tutorial can make:
http://TV.Adobe.com/watch/instant-InDesign/automating-a-catalog-with-data-merge/
But does not explain how he keeps the title, separation points, etc., to reproduce with the fusion of data.
Thanks for any input
You have the objects you don't want a copy of the master page?

Data merge multiple records on a single page?
I'm working on a grand layout photos grad with names, of the years and images.
I'm trying to data merge my excel sheet spread if I can have all the images, names and years on one page. There are about 4000 images total (spread through 5 layouts), so I don't want to put all the pictures individually, the names of types and years individually and then re - arrange when we need to add additional images.
My problem is that the same data are reapeating in all fields on the page. Even when I create a new page, the same data made its appearance.
If I saw the data, I can scroll through all of them, but only ever displays both. Multiple data by option on the page are grayed out in the data merge window whenever I try. I use InDesign CS4.
Y at - it something I am doing wrong, or is there another way to approach it?
I agree that it seems like if you duplicated data in your source although I can't gray on the option of multiple data page, if I try. It is perhaps something poick to the top with this clip. Good luck & let us know how make you out.

Problem with comma in the source of data merge document
I use InDesign CS6 on a Mac in the Mavericks.
I created a data source document in Word, saved as a .txt file. It is a unique field which is the titles of documents. One of the documents has two commas in the title. When I do the merging of data, this page displays only the part of the title until the first comma, and then the merger's going to the next page.
InDesign aid supposed to include the punctuated title between quotation marks. I tried enclosing the entire title in quotes, and I tried enclosing just commas in quotes. I used quotes and quotes. The result is always the same, the title merges up to the first comma and then going to the next page.
Usually, Google is my friend, but I could not find all the answers either. What I am doing wrong?
When you perform a data merge, it uses a character as the delimiter between fields. The default value is a comma. If you have just a single column of data, with no field to separate, then you can check the Options to Import Show key when selecting your data source and set the delimiter to be something thing-anything! -other than a comma. This will force InDesign to ignore commas in your data.

Data merge InDesign CS6 not properly position it on the page.
July 3, 2013
I tried all the settings in the windows of data merge.
I tried to place on the page in different places, but when it merges it is always in the Center (first element).
I looked for plug-ins, patches, patches online and found nothing that will help you.
You have not used the tool Page on this file, you have?
In addition, would be worth trying a new file for the model and the copy of the presentation of the card in it (or rebuild). It can be damaged at this point.

Page numbers not listed is not in data merge Document?
Hello, I hope someone can help. I am fairly new to InDesign, but a lot of learning. I create a directory the about 200 pages (around 2800 records merged from .csv in InDesign 6). Everything works fine with the merger, except generating page numbers. I tried to add page at the bottom of the page number to the master BEFORE merging. But if I do this, it greys on the 'multiple records per page' option when you try to run the data merge (using 'create a merged Document'). So, I tried to add the page number to the A-master after you HAVE created the merged document, but the page number does not appear on the pages. There must be a way to do it, can anyone help?
(FYI - to generate the automatic page numbering, I go to the Page current-markers-character number special Type-Insert and put that in a field of text at the bottom of the page.) Thanks in advance. )
I don't see a page number in the mask of law and all of your pages are pages on the right.

I have successfully used the merging of data for
throw or placed tmy text - placeholders on the master page, then geretated pages. Now, do report anotehr, I wanted to use
the old man a tempalte and just change that data - no matter WHA tI - I get the error
"Tehre is at least a placeholder data which may not be foudnin the data source. "Make sure that any placeholders correspond ot the fields in the data source.
Which is not true - because the dat merger panel shows all the field names in the CSV file - and I get this error as soon as I place a single field - on the master - check the preview area and the error message coems. I tried placoing on the page of document but no difference.
My solution was ot find a last tiem form Gall who did not have the dat a fusion inside and to use - however - I ran out of old files with no dat a merger. It almost seems as if once that you do a fusion of data in the file, even if not saved, it somehow it keeps and dwells on.
I have treid registering as an inx and do in CS3 - but got the same error.
I went on all loose on the page, one by one - using the story editor to see if there was soemthing bad in the file - found nothing
Here is a link ot the file and the data source
http://www.fcrpups.com/test/datamergeproblem.html
any help is greatly appreciated - I'm stumped
Ann
Sorry, you're right... it's a variable.
As near as I can tell, the document is damaged, but it seems that if it can be saved. Make a new A4 doc and rename A template z then it won't replace your master when you bring.
Now put the two visible documents at the same time and select all of the master pages in the original and drag them from the Pages panel and drop them on the new RFSO. Select document pages, then do the same thing, adding them after page 1. Page 1 to remove and reset the numbering.

First of all, let me say that I am quite new in InDesign, so this can be pretty basic for you, but I'm going to be as accurate as possible. I am putting together a directory of photos simple enough for our Church and has serious problems with the InDesign data merge. I have my numbers (Excel) document divided into fields and saved in a .csv file, I am able to select it as the source document and provide the information in my target document. The problem I encounter is that no matter what I do it's split up my data in separate documents.
Thus, for example, I have my source list .csv file as follows (more detailed but it is the base):
Name, address 1, address 2, phone 1
SMITH, John, 123 random circle, any where, USA 12345, 555-1212
Now I have my destination InDesign document what follows, clicked on directly from my window of data merge:
< < name > >
< < address 1 > >
< < address 2 > >
< < Phone 1 > >
However, my overview displays the following text:
SMITH, John
Random circle 123
Nothing else shows until I click on the tab 'next' for the next document, and then it will show:
Any where
USA 12345
555-1212
And as a result this page it with the email address... will follow that back to return to the next entry in my database.
Suggestions? Ideas? I was wondering if it has something to do with commas... but I tried going one last, address 1, city, State, Zip format first and it still will fill part of address at a time. I'm just at my wit's end... Please help!
For a multiple recorsd merger you must configure exactly a set of placeholder fields ID will dupicate them, as well as the rest of the page (if set up on the page of the document) as many times that can hold using the spacing you specify. If the fields are on the master page, other things on the master page, like headers and footers, will not be duplicated. Many beginners tripped upwards on how to implement a merger of several record.

InDesign data merge true or false to create the list
Hello
I have an Excel spreadsheet of customer data that needs to be transformed into a several doc page impression.
Each participant in an event gets a page each details listed. I can do this with a fusion of database.
However, each client has chosen certain things that they are interested and the customer has created a matrix, as shown, where 1 means that they are interested in the subject in the heading of column and 0 means that they are not.
Is there a way, a script or extension or something that will allow me to data merge these 1s and 0s in a simple list of subjects they have chosen.
Any help greatly appreciated
My next option is to try to do something with the Excel file but I am far from an expert in office.
You must add one or more columns tot eh spreadsheet and use some kind of logical formula to fill based on zeros and ones, then merge this column.
