Several readers

Hi all.

Can anyone provide information on several configurations of drive for video editing?

I am perhaps old school that I always worked my video projects on my main C drive and then archived projects on external systems.

I am trying to build a new workstation to use every day for video editing HD (AVCHD /.) H2.64 MOV) and I would appreciate some info around several readers regarding:

  • workflow
  • number of readers
  • disc types
  • size of the disks
  • purpose of each player

Thank you

My 3 hard drives for video editing are configured as...

.

1 320Gig Boot for Win7 64 bit Pro and ANY program installed (2).

.

2 - 320Gig given for Win7 paging swap file and video project files

When I create a project on the #2 drive, the various work followed by files,.

so my boot drive is not used for files and media cache files

.

3 - 1Terabyte data for all video files... input & output files (1)

.

(1) for faster input/output if you have 4 discs

-use disk 3 for all source files

-use the player 4 for all output files

.

(2) only used 60Gig for Win7 & CS5 MC & MS Office & other smaller programs

.

Microsoft Search to find out how to redirect your Windows paging file

http://search.Microsoft.com/search.aspx?mkt=en-us&setlang=en-us

.

I don't use RAID... AVCHD is time CPU, no intensive road as not compressed, so I have no problem editing without RAID (but, it's for the 'simple' home videos)

  • How to manage several readers in LR

Hello! I'm a wedding photographer are considering changing the cab to LR. I have several external hard drives filled with images of the latest weddings. In fact, I'm working out of external drives. And of course all of these discs are not connected to my computer at the same time. I watched video tutorial on how to import from a hard drive. But what happens, insofar as the catalog, I switch between several hard drives? I'm confused as to what to save on each hard drive with images. I know to save my changes to metadata so my work is not lost.  But I save the entire catalog/library (not sure of the termonology), I have created with all imports from each drive? Is there a way to save individual catalogs/libraries for each individual unit?  Or just lightroom will recognize each disc hard when I attach and re - build the importation on its own? Or will I have to re - import every time that I re - attach an external? So what do I do with the catalogue of the first time that I imported; It is always in the library? I'm sorry if I have t he temanology hurt. I hope someone will understand what I am looking for here. I don't want LR do a distraught disorganized mess out of my fairly well organized file structure.

I don't think there is such a thing as a 'bad port '. Its pretty simple to ensure that readers in Windows get the same letter whenever you plug. You do it once and you're done.

^ How to do that ^ is something I don't understand. I always thought that every USB port is a designated drive letter. I have 6 usb ports and move often enough external references. To get the same port every time would be difficult. I intend to change this configuration in the future, but now unfortunately it is what it is.

If you do not, you may need to get Lightroom to recognize the new drive letter, whenever you connect a drive

I try to avoid this scenario for as you said it's a lot more work. But how I'd get LR to recognize the new drive letter to in this case?

  • Can't see the deleted files in several readers...

In the Recycle bin that I am not files deleted from the c drive.

    I also have a D & E partition.

If I delete a file on the c drive... I can see it in the trash.  However, if I delete a file in the drive D or E, although it is there I don't see.

While in the trash, I click on cancel delete, the file goes back to it original, even if you do not see.  If I click on delete all files, it will say, for example, you want to remove all 20 files, while showing only say 3 coming from the C drive.

No idea why the D & E deleted files will not show?

Is there a trash Global who manages the tray?

Additional, I read that Windows 7 can show now files network deleted to the trash... anyone know of a way to do it.  When you delete files that is, let's...

    Thank you

Other readers recycling bins are in the hidden system folders (if you need to go to start / Control Panel / folder Options / View and check the option Show hidden files and also check the option to display system files). Once exposed, you will be able to see the separate baskets.  This is the case for Vista - I "m not sure how it works in Windows 7.

  • Replace several readers on PS5000e

I get 3-disc replacement from Dell to replace healthy disks whose firmware cannot be updated (3 current readers are all replacements of defective discs, we've had over the past years). I expect the new readers today, but I forgot to ask the storage technology how to do when I was on the phone with him yesterday. One of the current disks is the spare wheel and the other 2 are hot. I'm guessing that I:

-Start not to replace the spare wheel and check the EQ - I don't expect a time to rebuild, but is there anything else that might take a long time?

-replace one hot and wait for complete regeneration, which should complete over the weekend

    -replace the other hot

    Am I missing something?

    Thank you.

It depends on the FW version.   If you use a recent version, technology can help you put the player instead of the long process of reconstruction in mirror.  Especially if you run RAID5, this puts your data at the greatest risk if you make multiple reconstructions.

So if you run current fw, call technical support again and they can help you with this process.

  • Several readers on a backup drive

I have a flash SSD G 500 internal drive and an external 1 t HD connected to my Mac Mini (Server 2011). HD 1 t contains all my files (pictures, videos, etc.) while internal 500 G SSD is my boot drive. Can I use Time Machine to back up the flash drive SSD internal 500 g and 1 t external HD to a single large external HD (4 t)?

Yes, if the external drive is Mac OS extended (journaled) format or one of its variants. Open the Time Machine system preferences pane, click Options, and remove it from the exclusion list.

  • Cannot move all the files as windows explore crashes - it happens every time when you use an external hard drive (several readers have been tested and work on other machines)

I need to move files on my laptop, but windows crashes Explorer everytime I try this. This also applies when you use an alternative program to explore. It didn't happen last week but regularly spent the last six months. It is now that I need to migrate these files (mainly the images, but also the music and office documents).

Make sure that the device is compatible with Vista, the Vista Compatibility Center: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-vista/default.aspx.

If you need to get pilots to leave the computer dealer or the manufacturer of the device (NOT of Microsoft Updates).  In fact, you must disable automatic updates in Windows Update driver as follows: http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-disable-automatic-driver-installation-in-windows-vista/. Follow these steps: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/driverdlmfgr.htm.  Once you have the drivers, you can install them via the Manager device as follows: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html.  You need to find the NAS device and the NICs in particular - but it would not hurt to look at all the when you're there.

Go to start / Control Panel / Add Hardware and select the first option (recommended) to see if the system can detect the device.  If this does not work, choose the second and provide the information requested on the device.  You will be asked for drivers - have their practice.  Follow the prompts to install the device (NAS).  Make sure that it is plugged in and turned on when you do so, or he not be recognized.  It's the hard way of installing a hardware device, but your system obviously isn't automatically recognize it then do it manually. Here is a brief tutorial on how to do so: http://www.web-articles.info/e/a/title/Windows-Vista :-Running-the-Add-Hardware-Wizard /.

  • Need help to replace a physically C drive on several computer disks. I can't LOOSE the data on the secondary drive.

I got 2 hard drives, a small disc with XP Pro and a big drive for storage and memory intensive programs. The disc is dead - physically (he's grinding wheels), not because of software problems. I managed to boot from the XP disk and copied as much as possible on an external drive to install on a new hard drive. Externally will not take the backup file. After that I restarted depui the XP disc, my secondary drive is no longer recognized. I copy the contents of the C drive on an external drive. Here are my questions:
    1. can I ghost the info on a new hard drive and skip the installation? Reason I have CS3 on drive F, but it components installed on the C drive (where CS2 was before I upgraded). I do not have my Adobe CS3 here records because it allowed multi, and my records are currently out of State with the other licensee.
    2. If I install the new disk, starting from the old drive with XP disc, can I ghost? (I have a tour customized for several readers) When I started the drive C before - he tried to install on my F drive. I have not installed (I can't lose the files on drive F), and now the computer does not recognize the drive. I bought a Seagate drive and they have great software for installation - so I'd like to ghost it. The XP disk reduced to nothing the new drive hard as he did the F drive?
and finally, question 3. When the new drive, I get up and running, can I sign out the F drive, plug it back and Windows will see it? CS3 & Quark will still work if I have to do a fresh install?

    Hi jdohugh,

Thanks for posting. If I read your post correctly your hard drive with your operating system on it died, so you lost your operating system and do not have to reinstall but you try to get down the important data before the reinstall.

1 Q: can I ghost the info on a new hard drive and skip the installation? Reason I have CS3 on drive F, but it components installed on the C drive (where CS2 was before I upgraded). A. Si your drive with your operating system does not work, I do not think you can ghost it and reinstall as the image would not work. With Adobe CS3 disks, you will need to contact Adobe and get them to perform the installation of additional supports. Simply copy the files likely will not work to reisntall the application.

    2. Q. If I install the new disk, starting from the old drive with XP disc, can I ghost? (I have a tour customized for several readers) When I started the drive C before - he tried to install on my F drive. A: as I said in question 1 if your operating system drive does not an image would most likely fail or be corrupt. If read correctly the other part of the question you the system tried to start installation on your f:\ that matches your drive program and now you cannot access the files on it? With the last part of this question, you will need to contact Seagate to see what makes their software, I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish by using.

    3. Q. When the new drive, I get up and running, can I sign out the F drive, plug it back and Windows will see it? CS3 & Quark will still work if I have to do a fresh install?

    A. Si you reconnect an extra drive to XP, the operating system should see it regardless of what it was connected to previously. With regard to your programs, if it is a new operating system you load then Yes, you will need to reinstall these applications on the operating system, and they should work with no problems provided that the drive is working correctly.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

  • External readers display in folders?

I have a question about the display of external drives in the folder hierarchy. For some reason any, when I add a folder to an external drive, I get a new folder "Volumes", and then the drive will appear as a folder under the folder "Volumes." So, instead of a quick overview which disks are connected, I get a lot of "missing images" question marks on records when disconnecting the drives.

I don't get the extra folding bar (under Macintosh HD) like in your video. This happens on several readers, whenever I tested it!

    Any advice?

Sorry for the delay, you answer, I don't have confirmation by e-mail.

Hide this Parent was, sorry.  They changed the name several times!

If you restart after that the entire structure of the volume disappears, it should all return correctly.  Do not remove pictures because you will lose all the records of pictures directly in the pictures folder.

  • can I use an external hard drive LaCie Raid time capsule?

I am trying to hang a LaCie Raid to my Time Capsule for additional storage. I don't see the LaCie. Thanks in advance for the help.

Support Apple mentions that you can plug a simple USB to the port on the router from the airport, or several readers if you use a powered USB hub.  There is no mention of Raid type disk, which I interpret as meaning that the RAID is not supported by the firmware on the USB port on the airport.

Uses for the USB port of Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express - Support Apple Airport

From my experience, the Raid type drives are not recognized by the USB port on the Time Capsule or AirPort Extreme.

Even if the RAID drive was recognized, probably would NOT ever want to connect a RAID stack on the port.

The reason is that the port is USB 2.0 only... and due to the limitations of the processor in the airport router, the port runs at half the speed of a USB 2.0 on a computer. Thus, it would be incredibly slow with this type of installation.

  • El Capitan Sever problem Mail

I'm upgrading to Lion Server to Server 10.11 El Capitan.  The server is running on a Mac Pro 3.1 with several readers.  The OS is on its own disk, data on another.  I built a new server 10.11, then used Migration Assistant to bring in the previous settings of the old Lion Server.  The upgrade went well with the following exception.

My old Lion Server was created to store messaging data not on the drive of the BONE, rather on the separate data reader.  It was a fairly simple framework in the Server Admin application.   When I connect you to the new server client machines 10.11, no mail stored appears in email clients.  If I turn the old Lion Server instead of the new server 10.11, client machines see. At first, I thought that the 10.11 server was not established to look for mail on the data reader.  I changed the location of service for the 10.11 Server data point to the data reader.  (There seems not to be a setting for e-mail in particular data, so I put all the data the service to use the replacement data reader. Stored mail still does not appear in e-mail clients after this change.

I think I have the mail setting exactly the same on both servers.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Did you enter the users from scratch on the new server or upload them via.app? If you have created new users, then chances are that they have a new GUID and so the mailbox is there but not seen.

    Take a look inside

  • SSD HARD drive cloning

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows a quick and inexpensive way to clone my current hard drive to my new SSD.  The SSD, I is the EVO of 850 Samsung 250 GB internal 2.5 inch SATA III SSD flash disk. I thought that I could use as Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper cloning software to clone hard drive into a USB port, replace the hard drive with the new SSD and install Mac OS El Capitan (10.11.2), download Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper and transfer the files from the USB on the SSD.  If anyone has the best ways to go about this, I'd be more than happy to know.

    MacBook Pro (13-inch, mid-2012)

    OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

Storage: GB 439,61 498,88 GB free

Processor: Intel Core i5 2.5 GHz

I use external enclosures due to their flexibility.  I have a http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MSTG800U3K/, and there is a little cheaper that has only USB 3.0 http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MOTGS3U3/.  Exchange a number any 2.5 in. nu-readers through the enclosure.

Put the SSD inside, download CCC clone internally externally.

Download ElCapitan.  But install ForceQuit the execution of the European Community.  Now the twist I like, but others may disagree with... copy EC install to a place safe to use again if you need (install draws internal parts in the place of installation).  Then, run install EC to upgrade your clone.  Make sure that the clone/upgrade is running well.  THEN swap the drives.

I use my camera for several readers of clone, data/video players, test for OSXes new readers, etc.

  • Upgrade to a larger disk - compaq presario FR429AA

I have a compaq presario FR429AA and the Device Manager in Windows 7 tellsme, I have a WDC WD32 00AAJS-65B4A SCSI Disk Device as my hard drive is internal. It comes to 320Gig, but I want to put in an internal 2 drive 3 TB to run as the main drive with the operating system and keep the old drive as additional storage space.

I've heard of IDE, peripheral PATA and SATA, but sure of SCSI I'mnot main hard drive of the PC.  I can simply go with a SATA drive? Or I don't specifically tolook for a SCSI for this PC?

    Thank you

The 2 TiB limit is due to the OS.  However, it is for a single player.  You can install several readers until, I think, 256 TiB on the system.  Using the old drive will create no problem.

I suggest to do a system recovery using recovery discs.  This will save possible problems that may occur.  Here's a guide to help you.  Also, here is a guide to help you upgrade from Vista to Windows 7.

I've never used Acronis Backup.  Therefore, I am not sure if your suggestion will not work correctly.  HP motherboards are tattooed with the major components of the computer.  If the motherboard doesn't detect these components, it won't an installation by using the recovery discs.

  • What optical drive is compatible with Satellite A30

    Hello

Builtin of my DVD/CDRW drive A30-104 appear to be endangered (fails to climb most of the discs, just click a lot and trying / fails to turn upwards) so I need to go on the replacement of it. I have two questions:

    (1) the drive is listed as "Toshiba SD-R2412" and I found a lot of matches for this on eBay. However, some ads to mention a number of 3 additional digits (e.g., 202, 209 etc.) after the designation. -What this means and how to find the number of my disk (and is so important I)?

    (2) at - it a DVD burner available in the same form factor, and it would be likely to work with my laptop?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello

Additional portable players are numbers don't know about me and I don t know what it means.
However, you should know that not all readers can be used in the notebook. The CD/DVD drive supports different master/slave/c-salt settings that are not editable and sometimes don't match with the laptop.

This is why you should only use the readers recommended by Toshiba! As far as I know, different compatible readers are included in the user manual. Please take a look here!

I found a support several readers. For example:
    TEAC DW-224TH
    TEAC DV-W22-85
    Toshiba SD-C2612
    Toshiba SD-R2412

But as said above, check the user manual. All readers listed there
