Upgrade to a larger disk - compaq presario FR429AA

I have a compaq presario FR429AA and the Device Manager in Windows 7 tellsme, I have a WDC WD32 00AAJS-65B4A SCSI Disk Device as my hard drive is internal. It comes to 320Gig, but I want to put in an internal 2 drive 3 TB to run as the main drive with the operating system and keep the old drive as additional storage space.

I've heard of IDE, peripheral PATA and SATA, but sure of SCSI I'mnot main hard drive of the PC.  I can simply go with a SATA drive? Or I don't specifically tolook for a SCSI for this PC?

Thank you

The 2 TiB limit is due to the OS.  However, it is for a single player.  You can install several readers until, I think, 256 TiB on the system.  Using the old drive will create no problem.

I suggest to do a system recovery using recovery discs.  This will save possible problems that may occur.  Here's a guide to help you.  Also, here is a guide to help you upgrade from Vista to Windows 7.

I've never used Acronis Backup.  Therefore, I am not sure if your suggestion will not work correctly.  HP motherboards are tattooed with the major components of the computer.  If the motherboard doesn't detect these components, it won't an installation by using the recovery discs.

I checked the specifications of your computer system, and I see that you can upgrade the processor up to an Athlon 64 X 2 5000. Please contact any of the local stores for the same thing.

The minimum requirement of the system for the HD 4650 is 350 Watts and the card HD 5550 requires 300 Watts.

  • Compaq presario CQ42: Compaq presario CQ42 HDD Upgrade

    Hello!

A good and nice day to all!

I just want to know if it is possible to upgrade my computer laptop (HP Compaq Presario CQ42) drive HARD internal 320 GB (current) upwards up to 1 TB of HARD drive?

    Share:

My HARD drive right now is having a problem. I have it parted to partition 2 and it worked for me for a couple of years now. But lately this week, I removed the HDD to be used with an external box to copy some files from my desktop and installed as soon as it is. Unfortunately, when I try to start my laptop, it starts only until windows 8 Logo appears then flashing the screen off a second and turns to a black screen (similar to the background at boot)...

When I put my camera and connect with my desktop, C drive is not recognized more... He sometimes say that I format the drive and there is sometimes no drive at all. While my D drive and his reserved system are present and accessible...

I tried to recover the drive using HDD regenerator, but he says that the disc is fine.

I also tried TestDisk but still no good result...

With what I shared, may be you have some idea of what happened so I would like to know about it...

My real question is how much HARD disk capacity can be improved? I intend to install a 1 TB if posible...

Best regards and thanks a lot for any response...

    #IloveHP

Not a good idea to remove a hard drive from a work computer and then attach it to another computer. Permissions can get screwed to the top of this way. If you want to transfer files off the drive just do it on a computer network. But to really tell if the hard drive is to have software or hardware issues you just need to launch the diagnostic hard drive in the BIOS of the laptop. And your question on the 1 TB drive is easy: no problem. You can install a 9.5 mm thickness 2.5 inch wide SATA 1 TB hard drive. They are actually 1.5 TB abd even now, drives of 2 TB and those would be too much work.

  • The Compaq Presario 2100 laptop SSD upgrade

I have a laptop Compaq Presario 2100 it was brand new in 2003. I have a newer laptop, but a train trying to upgrade the Presario 2100 as much as possible. This is the kind of a project now and I also want to get as much as possible out of it. I heard that SSDS are super fast and would improve performance a bit. Anyone did the upgrade to an SSD for their Persario 2100 notebook PC series already? All entries are appreciated, in particular information about the product that was used for the upgrade. If no one did, so nobody knows if it is possible to upgrade the Presario 2100 series laptop PC to an SSD?

    Thank you

    Huck

Believe it or not, the maintenance manual is always available.

    Manual

The Presario 2100 uses old school PATA (EIDE) hard disks that are different from those of the SSD SATA see you more often on the market. However, there is a PATA SSD. They cost a bit more per concert, of course. I put a PATA SSD in a laptop on the same vintage as the Presario 2100 and it does significantly improve start-up time and overall performance, but talk about the proverbial earrings on a pig!

This is a 64 GB SSD PATA that would be perfect for the Presario 2100, but $ 90:

On eBay you will probably find 32 gig for a little less versions.

    • Processors:-Intel Centrino

    My questions are:-

    • If so, what should be the specifications for the SSD?
    • Should what changes I make for the Option-1?
    • Option-2, can I get an SSD external and operated through one of the 3 USB Ports?
    • Should what changes I make for the Option-2?

No he is the type of hard disk and how it connects, and you have this kind

And an SSD is like this:

See the difference in the interface? It is a kind of hole plug round/square of the thing. I could go on technically on different types of storage controllers and how to optimize the speed of SSD, but the different plug-ins is a killer deal from the outset.

On what you can do if you want to speed up the hard disk, performance is to find a 7200 RPM hard drive PATA (top photo), which will be much faster than 4200 or 5400 RPM nature, which is probably what has / have. I actually bought a supply of 60 GB 7200 RPM IDE/PATA drives of the laptop that I use in my hobby of refurbishing older laptops. I don't want to sell to a member of the Forum HP (kind of conflict of interest), but I can probably direct you to the place I got them if you will send me a PM.

My best real advice is that your laptop if it were a car would have the right to have "Antique" plates and is actually just a little newer than some of the 'old' portable in my "vintage" collection The market is very respectful of the buyer and you can get a laptop that will run rings around you for maybe $300 these days and will allow you to use a modern OS with a semblance of security. I don't think not that your could run anything newer than XP.

When I press F3, it gives a message that the hard disk is not installed and I should check the connections of power supply, etc..  However, I can run XP from hard disk. And I checked through 'System' that the h/d driver works fine?

The laptop is 2006 and the disc does a lot of 'Beating' when even simple are requested - where the need to re - install Windows.  (Tried to frag!).

Can anyone suggest something outside the upgrade? Thank you

  • Compaq Presario SR1150NX: Error, disk Compaq recovery dead

Hello, I have a desktop Compaq Presario SR1150NX of 2005. Everything works well in it and we emptied dust not for long. But then, one day I went to start it it says a critical system file was missing. I'm confused at first. After half an hour, creating a USB disk only to find it didn't work, I then had to use the Windows XP Recovery Console. Then after I fixed it it still didn't start because it couldint find the file. But when I start the computer, it shows me that, if I press F10, it boots into system recovery mode. OT started and told me that I could boot into windows xp system recovery. But in the middle of this, the computer overheats and shuts down. When I tried to turn it on again it gave me a disc error AND when I boot in recoervy, it's just bluescreens. Now when I turn on the computer, it does nothing.

Is there any where where I could download a recoervy tool to open the hard drive in order to get the data on the drive and get a new drive? Or get a Windows recovery disc?

    Any help is the Apprecited!

Remove the disk from the desktop.

    Buy

    USB 2.0 for HDD SATA/IDE adapter 2.5/3.5/5.25IN drives w / adapter

    See: http://www.ncix.com/detail/usb2-0-to-sata-ide-drive-adapter-a3-17762.htm

and connect your hard disk with this adapter to a USB port on your computer.

When you connect, Windows will ask your permission to run 'check disk' ('CHKDSK') to review and fix any problem of file system.

I think that the corrupt currently-system files on the hard drive is causing startup problems you reported.

Re-connect the desktop "repaired" disk drive, and then try again.

  • Compaq Presario CQ5600F: upgrade to M2N68-(Narra6)

Hello. I have a desktop PC Compaq Presario CQ5600F which took a power surge. I use Windows 10 Pro and I'd like to update the Pegatron M2N68-(Narra5) motherboard M2N68-(Narra6). I saw some of these for the sale of the mobo. Can someone point me in the right direction. I'm trying to find the drivers and perhaps installation information. The motherboards I've seen are either used, rebuilt, or "other nine" with no accessories.

    Hi @stan7926,

Thank you for your participation in the Forums of HP Support! It is a great location to get resolutions and interact with experts from the community. I understand that you need information on an upgrade of the motherboard of your PC. I'll be happy to help you with this.

It's always a great pleasure to work with tech-savvy and technically customers sounds like you. Kudos to you for this. I am amazed at your technical skills and levels of technical knowledge.

First of all, the specifications are very clear on the HP website. It supports "M2N68-(Narra5)" with the drivers, BIOS and other updates available on the HP Web site. About the upgrade to M2N68-(Narra6), it may be possible, but before you buy the product, I would suggest that you contact a technician on-site that this motherboard is not listed by HP as a compatible Web site.

I thank you greatly for posting your question on the forums of HP and for giving us the platform to help you. You are a customer of HP and we greatly thank you for doing business with HP.

It is important that you are having problems with the bios and driver incompatibilities on the motherboard and windows 10 Therefore, it is recommended that you contact a local technician and check the compatibility of the motherboard before making any attempt to improve it. We cannot have the bios for it and corresponding drivers. Once again, you will need to visit the websites of 3rd party hardware manufacturers to update the bios and other drivers.

  • Compaq Presario CQ5300Y desktop PC - memory upgrade

Hello, everyone! I hope you are all well.

I have a desktop PC Compaq Presario CQ5300Y, to which I would like to upgrade the memory.

The product specifications indicate clearly that the motherboard, a M2N68-(Narra5), 2 x DDR2 memory media. (In addition, the amount of installed memory is 2 GB.)

The product specifications, in the information section of upgrade memory also mention the following:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Dual channel memory architecture
    Supports two DDR2 DIMM (240-pin)

    Supported DIMM types:

    PC2-5300 (667 MHz)
    PC2-6400 (800 MHz)

    Memory non - ECC, unbuffered
Supports DIMM DDR2 2 GB modules
Supports up to 4 GB * on 32-bit PCs
    * 32 - bit operating systems cannot resolve a full 4.0 GB memory.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm clear (with what the article said) I have only available two DIMM DDR2 2 brackets.

"What confuses me is the statement" ""supports 2 GB DDR2 DIMM '. This is the reason for my question.

"Supports 2 GB DDR2 DIMM" means that I have to use 2 GB DDR DIMM only, which means I can only go to 4 GB? Or could I use 4GB DDR2 DIMM, which breaks the barrier of 4 GB?

In a few words, I would like to - at least - 8GB (assuming that I find two modules DIMM DDR2 4 GB). Would it be possible to have the above configuration?

It is important to mention that the PC is running a 64-bit operating system.

I would appreciate the attention he can draw on this issue.

    Best regards.

    Hello:

Each slot of memory on the motherboard of your PC cannot accept that a maximum of one module of memory of 2 GB.

    1 x 2 GB will work.

    2 x 2 GB will work.

    1 x 4 GB will not work.

    2 x 4 GB will not work.
