Share permissions *.

Here's what's happening. I have a volume with this (under GET info):

I put it so that the users can access. All people are part of a group named "users". The 'Users' group is allowed to read and write with all admins. Because they are also part of the "staff" group that is set by default on OS X, they have the privilege to read and write too. I also put to read and write for everyone (everyone I guess is that all users, not invited). All permissions have been propagated to all files and folders.

Very well. now I also server the share of the volume named 'data' that everyone also has access to records at the breast. That's great. Windows and Mac users can access files without problem until a person saves or creates a new folder or a file. At this point, they are the owner and no one else can access the file. They get access denied and distill cannot process postscript files.

The only way I can get this to work is to stop sharing and check the "Ignore ownership on this volume" checkbox and activate sharing on.

I use the server on OS X 10.11.2 5.0.15 that I really don't think that is important because she always did little matter the OS X.

What can I do to fix this?

Looks like you are trying to use only the POSIX permissions.  Do not inherit from the POSIX permissions.  You must use to rent access control entry once.  This should be done in.app.  Follow these general steps:

1: large group or groups

2: Add the right people at the appropriate groups

3: in.app, double-click the shared folder

4: in the permissions window, tap on the + button and add the group defined in step 1.

5: set the appropriate permissions for the group.

6: generally leave the POSIX permissions to standard umask unless you must be more restrictive.

7: permissions should propagate.  If they do not...

8: select your server in the sidebar first Server.app point from the list, and then choose the storage tab.

9: Drill up to your shared folder, and then select it.

10: in the Gear menu choose propagate permissions or change permissions, and then spread.

OS X has not supported POSIX heritage since 10.4.  You must use the ACL for properly managing group permissions.

Oh, and you shouldn't be give everyone write access.

Hello readers. I have a shared folder on my iMac 5 k

When we create folders and saving documents in this folder structure that they retain ownership of the creator/client rather than inheriting them from the folder enclosing

It is therefore difficult to collaborate.

It seems that POSIX is allowing for a legacy and that ACL is just missing

I was able to explicitly create ACL using handyman tool and all works well on a part of the test. It reminded me the tools in the Apple server.

Surely, I shouldn't need to do this, use a third-party application. Am I missing something? I ask a large part of the operating system, the server right?

  • Share permissions Windows Server R2 2012 - Folder Redirection-

    Hi all

    I have a simple question:

I'm following the instructions below to create shares folder redirected to a Windows 2012 R2 file server.

    https://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-GB/library/jj649078.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

Orientation specifies the minimum NTFS permissions for users to create their own records in respect of each redirect root action - that I followed.

However, management does not have the minimum share permissions required for each action.

I found some old directions below that specify minimum share permissions required for each action - this guide is connected to Server 2003 however:

    https://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc775853 (v = ws.10) .aspx

This policy specifies the minimum share for each share of redirection root permissions.  He says that the Everyone group requires no authorization. When I create each action, the default permissions correspond to the "Everyone" group full control.

    So my question is:

It's recommended to let everything everyone default permissions under total control, or should I uncheck the boxes allow for reading, editing and full adjustment - actually no permissions for the Group everyone on each action of the root.

    Thank you

  • Share permissions are not applied to new files in a shared folder

    Hello

I'm trying to share videos from computer to Tablet. I prefer to use anonymous access, so I turned off password protected sharing in network and sharing Center. Then I shared the video folder with everyone and give them read-only permission. I provided by the security that my user account is the owner of this folder. It worked, I could access my files on the tablet. But then in that case. I created my bittorrent client to put the downloaded files to this folder shared and discovered that I do not see these files to the tablet. It turned out that this read-only permission has not been applied to new files in the folder. The parent folder itself and all of its subfolders, all files that were there at the time wherever I shared it had permission, while the files added after that didn't share. More confusing is the fact that when * I * create a new file in the folder, he * gets * share permissions, but not these files settled by utorrent.
For the moment the only way to do this I have bypass see is to re - apply manually share for each new file permissions in the folder whenever he appears here, which I find extremely frustrating. So I thought I could use some help.
Sorry for my bad English, I have described the problem as best I could. Hope that's at least somewhat clear what I'm trying to achieve. I would appreciate all the advice really!

Thanks for the reply. FixIt did not help and articles on sharing you suggest to use a working group which I prefer not to use and generally only covers for use of base which I am familiar with.

I did some research and I think I have located the problem: the root folder's NTFS permissions are not inherited by these new files. When I "Replace all permissions of child object with permissions inheritable from this object" security-> Advanced dialog permissions applied as well as NTFS share permissions. But then again, I have to do this everytime manually, which is annoying. So, what could be the cause of it?

  • What people are included in "Level 1 Administrator permissions?" when the configuration file and network share permissions?

I'm trying to figure out how to set the level of permissions for my files and folders. But I also understand exceptions to the permissions of level 1 and level 2. I've never used a "network of the computer at work." I've only used a "network of computers at school. So I have only a limited understanding of what means "administrator." At home, when I'm sitting at my computer, which is not connected to a network to work, or school, I'm the 'administrator' on my computer. This is because I created the "user account" through the steps required to create an account on my computer, and I assigned a password to the account. Only, I can read and write to files and folders that I created in the folder "My Documents" from my user account. At least I have change permissions and file sharing, all files and folders in the "My Documents" folder are private (level 1) and no one else can read or write on my files. I have 'full control '.

However, if I'm on a computer at work or at school, even if I am the "owner/creator" of my files and folders, there is another person (my boss or my teacher) for example, which is the 'network administrator.' Presumably, this person has access to my files and folders and share a total control over them. If that's true, how someonewho is not the creator of the file or folder access? If anyone else can have total control over my files and folders at school or work, which keeps an unknown person to access my files and folders on my computer a home. What I mean is this: if I change the permissions to allow someone else to read and write in my files and folders, which prevents an unauthorized person by performing the same steps to access my files and folders? My question is about operating systems, I learn all that is Windows XP Pro and Windows Vista SP2.

  • How to separate my Windows 7 libraries/Homegroup and Windows Media Center the share permissions?

I used to share media from my laptop Windows 7 for my Xbox 360 and my Windows XP computer using Group residential and everything was great, but I decided to use WMC so I could see more files on my Xbox 360.

But after you have configured the WMC as Xbox 360 Extender, it reset my permissions and locked the folders that I was sharing with homegroup. After you have unlocked records, he deleted all the files in my library, and anytime I want to share a folder with the homegroup, its in my list of WMC,.

Whenever I remove a sharing folder in WMC, it resets my home group and locked files. I don't want that.

At any time, I share a folder to my homegroup, sharing in Windows Media Player (it's a NO!) I don't want that at all)

WMC can sometimes have trouble sorting files when its comes to 100 and 1000 s, I want to keep my Homegroup library and my library of WMC separate share. Which means I want my homegroup, my library and Windows Media Centers, sharing folders, all sharing the same folders.

    How can I do this?

  • Error opening InDesign doc on network share permissions

    Hi all

We have a bunch of Mac users running MacOSX 10.9.5 running this version of InDesign

    2014.2 release

    10.2.0.69 build

They work on documents that are stored on a Windows 2003 file server (connected via smb://servername/share). Windows file server and Mac clients are all attached to AD.

Intermittently, they will receive this error when you try to open an InDesign file on the file server.

"Cannot open the document in Full: path:to:document.indd. You may not have permission or the document can be opened already.

If they try a second time, the document opens correctly. It also happens with what is happening in the Mac Finder while trying to open the doc using Adobe Bridge.

I checked permissions of sharing/NTFS on Windows 2003 server and they look very well (the permissions are inherited correctly and the person trying to open the document is the owner of it... etc...)

Any ideas on what's going on? On NTFS, users have the permission to do everything except take ownership and change permissions

Yes, it is a common problem in using a wrong setting for the server. The server must allow access to a file. Otherwise, the Finder blocks the file because it loads the preview. After 2-3 seconds, the file can be opened. Another problem is that the files in the Finder cannot be saved with Photoshop so that the file will be disabled in the Finder. Only way to get rid of the error is to change the server configuration or by using the bridge instead of the Finder.

    I hope this helps.

  • Problem with the share permissions

I am running a Windows XP Pro SP2 x 64 VM in my Mac OS X 10.5.5 with VMware Fusion v2.  I currently have a hard drive connected to my mac that I used to use in a Windows box.  It is NTFS and shared (read/write) through VMware shared folders.  While in the Windows virtual machine, I can see/open/copy files from this drive, but I can't write to it (save/create/delete).  I looked through some threads on the forum but can not find an answer to my problem.  Someone knows how can I fix this?  Let me know if you need more information.

Well then your choices are to use NTFS - 3G or similar to allow OS X to have write access to the NTFS Volume, or you can use "/ Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/vmware-rawdiskCreator" to create a map of gross to a HDD virtual disk that you could add to the target VM and then it would be available on the physical hard disk for reading writing & directly when the target of the Virtual Machine running.

If you want to read & write for OS X and make it like shared folder then you could then start the VM with an ISO Image of GParted and convent of the NTFS Volume in FAT32 to target and then remove the VHD from target to the target of the Virtual Machine and then just share and you have read & write concurrency of OS X and the VM.

There are other options/scenarios, but you can think what was presented and go from there.

Note: It goes without saying that it would take a full backup of the user data from the target physical drive before plug as a raw disk or convert NTFS to FAT32.

  • How to set permissions for sharing by computer/object and not by the user, share Mac and no Windows Pc

I wonder if anyone knows how put share permissions on an object such as a Mac in my case instead of the windows user.

We do not have our Macs in Active Directory, we seek to share an external hard drive only Mac and not the Windows PC on the network using active directory. I tried sharing the hard drive of a PC to anyone and both PC and Mac can access to this, but we do want Macs to see and access it and not everyone. There is no selection shares with the name of the computer in the share permissions, so the only way to do is share it to everyone. The Mac, accounts are local to the Mac and the PC on Active Directory, so what I do is have a way to share this folder with only Mac and all the Windows PC. All solutions, all ideas will help.

    Thank you

One thing I can suggest is to share the hard drive of a Mac and make sure that the hard drive is formatted in HFS file system + and not NTFS. Windows does not recognize HFS +. In this way, Windows users will not be able to access the hard disk.

Alternative methods may be available with Mac. Please contact Apple support in this regard.

What version of the operating system Windows am I running?

No, Windows does not let you to set passwords that limit access to shared folders. However, if you are not on a domain, you can limit network access to the Public folder by turning password protected sharing or disable. This allows only people with a user account and the password for your computer to access the Public folder over the network.

Whether you are on a domain or not, you can limit access to other folders by choosing to share only with specific people, grant share permissions. Permissions can be granted to an individual or a group of users on the same network, allowing them to access your shared folders. You can also set the level of access, allowing people to just open shared files, or also to change, create, or delete. For more information, see
