Error opening InDesign doc on network share permissions

Hi all

We have a bunch of Mac users running MacOSX 10.9.5 running this version of InDesign

2014.2 release

10.2.0.69 build

They work on documents that are stored on a Windows 2003 file server (connected via smb://servername/share). Windows file server and Mac clients are all attached to AD.

Intermittently, they will receive this error when you try to open an InDesign file on the file server.

"Cannot open the document in Full: path:to:document.indd. You may not have permission or the document can be opened already.

If they try a second time, the document opens correctly. It also happens with what is happening in the Mac Finder while trying to open the doc using Adobe Bridge.

I checked permissions of sharing/NTFS on Windows 2003 server and they look very well (the permissions are inherited correctly and the person trying to open the document is the owner of it... etc...)

Any ideas on what's going on? On NTFS, users have the permission to do everything except take ownership and change permissions

Yes, it is a common problem in using a wrong setting for the server. The server must allow access to a file. Otherwise, the Finder blocks the file because it loads the preview. After 2-3 seconds, the file can be opened. Another problem is that the files in the Finder cannot be saved with Photoshop so that the file will be disabled in the Finder. Only way to get rid of the error is to change the server configuration or by using the bridge instead of the Finder.

I hope this helps.

  • What people are included in "Level 1 Administrator permissions?" when the configuration file and network share permissions?

I'm trying to figure out how to set the level of permissions for my files and folders. But I also understand exceptions to the permissions of level 1 and level 2. I've never used a "network of the computer at work." I've only used a "network of computers at school. So I have only a limited understanding of what means "administrator." At home, when I'm sitting at my computer, which is not connected to a network to work, or school, I'm the 'administrator' on my computer. This is because I created the "user account" through the steps required to create an account on my computer, and I assigned a password to the account. Only, I can read and write to files and folders that I created in the folder "My Documents" from my user account. At least I have change permissions and file sharing, all files and folders in the "My Documents" folder are private (level 1) and no one else can read or write on my files. I have 'full control '.

However, if I'm on a computer at work or at school, even if I am the "owner/creator" of my files and folders, there is another person (my boss or my teacher) for example, which is the 'network administrator.' Presumably, this person has access to my files and folders and share a total control over them. If that's true, how someonewho is not the creator of the file or folder access? If anyone else can have total control over my files and folders at school or work, which keeps an unknown person to access my files and folders on my computer a home. What I mean is this: if I change the permissions to allow someone else to read and write in my files and folders, which prevents an unauthorized person by performing the same steps to access my files and folders? My question is about operating systems, I learn all that is Windows XP Pro and Windows Vista SP2.

    the command I used was:

    CD "\\server\folder.

The way around this is to map the network folder to a disc and use the drive letter.
In your case, it would look like this:

    NET use M: \\server\folder / persistent: no
    M:
    Start "excel document.

When you are finished, you can unmount the drive:

    C:
    NET use M:/delete

  • Sharing of readers do not reconnect - error "an error occurred during connection [drive letter]: [share name] Microsoft Windows network: the local device name is already in use." This connection has not been restored. »

Original title: Shared readers do not reconnect

I have two PCs connected wireless. A laptop (Vista Business) was the drives mapped to actions on the other PC (XP). Whenever the Vista PC is started or out of hibernation, or after only a short period of time these discs are not available. Click on the drive in Explorer to display the message "an error occurred during connection [drive letter]: [share name] Microsoft Windows network: the local device name is already in use." This connection has not been restored. »

If I click on 'Network' within Solution Explorer, the XP PC is not visible. The only way that I can "reconnect" these disks is to go into my anti-virus (Trend) and open the network map. This shows the XP PC and then the shares are available through Explorer - XP PC is still not visible by clicking network however.

It started only happens in the last two months - cannot locate exactly when, but quite recently. I use connections to store small files and backup critical files a few before nailing the laptop away and it is quite annoying to have to go through this routine every time.

    Any ideas?

Just in case it helps others - I found that if I make sure that my XP PC has a fixed IP address, and then set up the shares so that they are defined using the IP address and not share names, then I do have more problems - seems like it's something to do with Windows solve the share names rather than something to do with the personal firewall after all.

  • Windows 7 error: "Windows Explorer has stopped working" when you try to connect to network shares.

I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my laptop - clean, no upgrade. It's in the CARDS and not a copy of the beta version. When I try to connect to a network share, I get an error. "Windows Explorer has stopped working". If I go to start > run and type in \\servername\users, I'm prompted credentials. I enter domainname\administrator, then the password, as soon as I get an error message indicating that "Windows Explorer has stopped working" then by «Windows Explorer restarts...» "and then refreshes the screen. If I open computer > network > Servername, I invite myself again for credentials, but get the same message. The name of username/password combo does not seem to make a difference.

An additional singularity, I went to control panel > "Backup of your computer", and when I was invited to a network location back up my system, I gave him the same set of location and network credential and the system have been successfully saved to the network drive.

Press Win Logo key + R, type: fsmgmt.msc

    You see your own actions?

If so, open the credentials manager in Control Panel and look for an entry like your network logon. Delete who can clear up.

  • Machine on the network share, snapshot at the opening?

    Hello

I'm new on this, so apologies if I receive the wrong terminology.

I need to put some infrastructure in place to a Profiler configuration for applications in Citrix flow (although this info is probably not important to do this).

What I need is the following.

User turns on the workstation, and then tries to start a machine 2008R2 on a network share. A snapshot is then created, and the user is working on this snapshot. When you are finished, the user stops the machine and the snapshot is destroyed, leaving a pristine environment for the next user.

Is this possible? Is it possible to do it with a minimal amount of information provided by the user (scripts can help?).

    Thanks in advance.

install the virtual machine until you get the required state.
    then setall VMDK tononpersistent

This creates a snapshot too which is automatically deleted when the virtual machine stops - not necessary at all to script

  • Accessing a network share is reasonable in response, but in sharing folders are slow to react. Can it be accelerated?

When you browse a network share, \\LocalServer\Level1Share, with Explorer on an XP computer fully patched, the list of Level1Share has been quickly. If I try and open a file, say Level2Folder, I'll have to wait somewhere close to 2 minutes for a list. The share is on a Windows 2003 server, updated with patches, and the user has the appropriate permissions to the level of sharing and folder. Why and what can be done to fix this?

  • Windows Search find files but the mistakes of some of them, which are open normally when it is accessed to follow the path of the error opening

My client uses Windows Search to help track the files in a fairly large groups. Indexing and everything seem to work very well, but when the user performs a search, it returns the information that are expected, but when you click on some of the files that it generates this error:

"Cannot find 'file:///s:/XXXXX/XXXXXX.pdf'. "Make sure that Internet address or pat is correct.

(where XXXX/XXXX are the path and name, of course. It varies and is not a specific place, or all in the same places is originally the same error)

Varies depending on the issue and the only consistency I've found is than that error all tend to share the same name of 'Owner' and those who work divides different. Yet once again, the 'owners' vary. When browsing directly on the elements, following the exact path in error, the files open fine. In our case, 's:' is a mapped network share, but which seem to be the question either, as the other files in the search located on the same mapped share and in the same directory path work very well.

To make it even more confusing, the search of all works perfectly on another computer. All users have the same access right, reading/writing/execution, in the cases in question. The file doesn't seem to be open and in-use by other users.

The system in question is running Windows XP Professional SP3 and is connected to a domain active directory running Windows Server 2003. We have tried to do, and it did not help.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for anything that can help you!
