SHIELD NETWORK WRT 1900AC?

WRT 1900AC provides a network (shield) firewall against external intrusion?

Firewall is always turned on a user unless he died. If there is any firewall issues that must be addressed, it will be revuewed by the Mfr router and developed and tested, then included in a FW update. The firewall is the routers Firmware and not a package of SW.

  • WRT 1900AC - 1st edition material last BIOS - backup on SLOW remote NAS!

I've recently updated my (EasUS ToDo Backup) backup software and had reconfigure a drive mapping to make it work.  My backups now run about 4 - 5 times slower (17 hours instead of 4) with the same material.  I can't believe, the problem is in the backup software, but maybe it's in the way I "mapped" the drive and it referenced in the backup program.  I was going to put a couple of my systems to Win10 before the end of the free period of "update", so I want good system backup and restore capabilities, and a 17 hour backups is a problem.

Win7 (x 64) on two computers at the present time.  One of them saved thanks to the new software very good speed, but the other took "forever" on the same wired LAN which is certified 1 Gbps.  I wanted to be able to change the NETBIOS name on the router so that I can include my IPV4 machines in a "working group" without a real host "server."  I note that working group I use WinXP, WinVista and Win7 to be able to do things simply in my LAN is NOT "WORKGROUP" and I suspect that a simple change in configuration of software for the backup program will solve my problem, namely not invokng a 'sharing' as the backup target, but instead use the 'Network' connection I have implemented directly targeting 192.168.1.1 instead the windows share name. (drive letter).

Is there a plan to let people change the 'media services' and name of working group on the router of the hard coded in the current BIOS?

@Fuzzy - TY for this review, but... The wiring that I use has a gigabit switch between ports on the router and the Linksys WRT-1900AC so there isn't that one ethernet connection actually connect the router to the cable modem and an ethernet connection between the router and the network that has been certified to 1 Gbit/s, when we installed it.  All Cat 6 cables.

According to me, the difference is in the network I have called inavertently when I configured the Windows backup software.  Since the post I checked how I got the software set up on another computer "faster" and found that the slow backup worked via a 'mapped drive"on the local host, and ran that fast on a 'network' drive that I had specified as //192.168.1.1 with the password 'admin' WRT-1900-AC to ensure that any user configured on the machine had right to the root of the drive.  "Bad habits have life hard."

  • On linksys WRT - 1900AC V2 Time machine

SE your know that Linksys WRT-1900ac can use the time machine function? another post said that can not use time machine to back up! Is it really?

    Thank you!

Yes, really. the linksys is a wifi router only, and has no hard disk attached. I guess that you can attach a hard drive somewhere (if possible) and put on with the Time machine backup, but this is neither here nor there.  For me, I bought a time capsule airport - very reliable and very easy to install and to use, does the job quietly and well. He also recommended to have a backup of some sort finally... just for security reasons

  • WRT1900ACS no IPv6 Configuration Options - WRT 1900ACS

Lack of adequate research on my part, but why in the world stores software packages offer NO real option on Linksys WRT 1900ACS IPv6?

Anyone know if a DD - WRT image is available which provides IPv6 configuration options? And if you use an image that is stable, please provide the info of the image?

Or another - not a Linksys - wireless router that provides IPv6 configuration options?

I can install an old Cisco 2800 and a switch to wired customers as a temporary solution, but I learned to get this resolved as soon as POSSIBLE.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

    John

The WRT1900ACS is sustained and stable on the Sub 3rd party firmwares, they advanced IPv6 configurations. If you have many options:

    1. OpenWRT
    2. DD - WRT
    3. McDebian (for the Linux Experts)
  • WRT 1900AC and Windows 7 on the network or naming issues

Background: I had a Linksys E3000 up and running for about 5 years in a stable network environment.  The E3000 is dead, and I put in a new 1900AC WRT to replace.  Doing of things set up correctly the main 'name network' in my network poster shows up as a name given to a part of my network wireless.  The "Wired" part appears in diagrams and windows, as well as the bands main wirless, but not as the nodal point between computers cable and internet Win7, I want to get the machines to Windows 7 on my network to display the name of cable system in Windows 7, as the primary network and NOT one of those wireless.  Almost everything I want to be able to do works very well except for the display of the network card in Windows 7 when I tried to set up a 'House' group that does not yield to my efforts.,.

I use the notation 'suffix' in the name, so is my router on ethernet. .. NET, the lower band wireless is ... W24 upper band is ... W5.   I haven't figured out how to get objects from the 'sequence of configuration of events' out of the Windows 7 shows in the 'Network Neighborhood' so I have a more rational image that has Ethernet to the soul and the bands wireless networks subsidiary additional not necessarily associated with all my devices.  I know this isn't technicallly a Linksys issue, but... Can I just delete alll information neworking in Windows 7 and restart and then force the computer to put in place a network based on the correct network node labels. provided by the router?   I'm a little worried that I might have "reset" all that would be a huge * beep * since almost everything I want to do works very well, I'm not quite clear sometimes if the process of connecting a computer to another, or a NAS attached to the router through the wired network or wireless one where performance can be a big problem.  My Ethernet is "certified" to 1 Gbit/s, which is much faster than wireless networking.  Sometimes, it seems that to access the NAS attached to the router is done "through a tiny straw, not driving fast in the world of wiered.»  I used to do a lot of Windows NETBIOS networking "back in the day" and my network of naming conventions followed probably not with the time, but I have still two Windows XP computers connected to my home network, and when 'debug' things I think as central Ethernet and wirless and additional networks portions, not conversely.  Unfortunately Windows 7 seems to grasp the names wireless first, probably because the machines in question all have two wired connectivity and wireless, built in and available in their equipment and one who has been implemented and functional with the old router, when the new plugged it was used initially for initialization using the default sequence integrated into the software of the router.  I was able to go back and rename everything to get rid of the default names, but my Android based network monitor works only within the range of the router and not when the phone is connected to the internet outside the home.  I was never able to get the support of people phone to help me clarify this issue either. ..  When I added the second computer, it's the same out of the box, Windows has taken the name of the first wireless network that he found and put it in the vicinity of network as the device in the path between the computer and the internet, I can 'see' the host name of the router correctly from everywhere and map on the 1 TB drive that I hung above all my computers, but the Internet connection is actually an ethernet drop of water from a modem cable to a port on the router ethernet, not one of the wireless bands that appear.

I'm not ready to take this option, partly because I managed to apply each official Linksys/Belkin new update to this firmware to the router via a network connected to the interface of the web browser, app management Andoroid meets most of my needs and that the router is in a section of closet custom built interface built in an old House we updated to convert a vestibule in two closets.

The router sits above a coat bar with the phone and networking hub for a small household of Ethernet wiring devices, coaxial cable and telephone wiring central location includes a small battery assisted power conditioner for the cable modem, the hubs and the router itself as well as the power supply for a connected NAS drive to the port of the router using USB 2.0 speed (the drive is older than the router , but the operating system to wake up when one of the connected devices want to access once it is mapped on the computer.  The only precaution I had to take was to not implement the external login to the router with the same credentials used by the Android app that I use to check things and if necessary to restart, etc if I don't want to run a computer and connect in this way.  If I had to 'flash' of the router manually, I have to be sure I could worm my way in this cabinet, unplug everything, then consider somewhere, performing surgery and then carry all back and reconnect it.  I'm 72 with cataracts of too many years of watching from the CRT in my youth.  I prefer not to tighten my back, or down a small stepladder, I need just to get up there where I see things.  Perhaps when we move, I'll take with me to Kendal at Oberlin and set up again in a configuration that is more appropriate for a bungalow in a community with large campus wireless available to everyone... This could be interesting.  I hope that if will meet my needs "such what" until then.  BTW, I'm getting pretty good wireless reception on my terrace outside a two-story built in 1939 with hard plaster, brick slab concrete and brick walls of full course between the router and me!

  • WRT 1900AC network card 2.4/5.0/LAN

Well, I'm under all Windows 7, most laptops systems with a few desktops on LAN. When you look at the map of the network on the systems Wireless 2.4, we see the links between the WRT and them, as well as LAN ending to the internet but no 5.0 connection appears.

On laptops 5.0 you can see connected to put an end to the internet, but no LAN WRT or 2.4 appear.

Is this a known issue? This makes the networking of all possible systems because they do not see each other on the network.

    Thank you

As another point of reference, a Macbook Pro hooked up in has the same problem of computers to come and go and often not even to see the shared drive on the WRT. So the issue seems to be with the WRT not computers or Windows 7.

  • Linksys WRT 1900ACS + Linksys SE2800 - gigabit connection problem

    Hi guys,.

I have a Linksys WRT router 1900ACS that is connected to a Linksys SE2800 switch. The switch is not recognized by the router as a gigabit.

I also connected a computer with a gigabit network card via a cable, but I get only 100 Mbps speeds. My internet commection is a 500 Mbps. If I connect the computer directly to the router speed is about 470 Mbps.

    Is the switch defective?

    Thank you!

For this 10/100Mbps port is displayed.

OK, then you have a wiring problem. Replace the Ethernet cable with a good cable to know who is connected to before 1000mbps.

  • WRT 1900AC is more manageable via web browser?

I suspect that it is an artifact of the recent improvement in security in Internet EXPLORER and Firefox, or Norton Internet Security, but I have not thought about it yet.  Here are the symptoms:

    (1) I have a stable network environment that normally, I do not change.

    (2) I use my ISP Comcast and they provide Norton Internet Security, who usually complains of a 'certificate' problem when I try to access my router through a browser web (I MSIE 11 x 64, Firefox and Chrome...

    (3) I can connect on the router locally using the password I assigned sometimes...

    (4) no matter what I try, the page load speed Test is more completely.  I use an Android version of the same software through the router, but I want the stats directly from the connection between the cable Modem and the router, not a wireless approximantion the base performance numbers.

Has there been an upgrade of the BIOS to my router which fit not automatic?  I registered everything and log in to Linksys support without problems., but now none of my browsers will be same can let me connect you to the web page of Linksys 192.168.1.1./...the way which they used to.

Of course, this could be a problem of trainsient with speed Test web site, and/or the Linksys web pages, but... Is there any help out there?

    Using MSIE 11 (x 64) through:

    https://192.168.1.1/UI/1.0.99.164461/dynamic/home.html

Today, I managed to activate the speed Test, and I've identified the problem.  My background update later normal windows or that of Norton Internet Security apparently reset the security settings of the browser about the redirection.  Little planning screens of the router management web server redirects the screen of UI browser secured to a site of Ookla, and the browser blocked the redirect.

Fortunately, I do not update the BIOS software router from Linksys and the subsequent automatic restart in December remotely had anything to do with the problem.  He appeared a week ago.  The problem is solved!

Once I tell my browser to allow all content, not just to content security speed test interface works.  Thank you all!

As the issue of router maintenance is, if I pass the BIOS of Open-Source for this router, as planned, I will certainly follow the Protocol described for restorations will be my main defense against bugs introduced in the process of open source.  I've been a user of Linksys for over 10 years now and have never experienced a problem with update of the post.  I recognize the risk of losing the connection to the internet via remote maintenance protocol, but I'm sure that if this happens, I'll be able to recover.  There is nothing 'mission critical' on internet services to my personal residence.

  • WRT 1900ac NAT flow performance.

Hello all, when I connect my PC directly to a cable modem, I get a download speed of 180 Mbps.

However, if I connect the 1900ac (internet port) to the modem, then connect my PC to the routher (ethernet port), then I get only 40 MB/s download speed.

I was hoping someone might be able to provide information that will help me understand what is happening. I did some research and if I had to guess I would say that the 1900ac can't handle 180 Mbps from the perspective of a NAT flow.

I just checked and this router is equipped with 14 on devices: 9 cables, wireless 5.

I checked the report of internet usage and it shows that only a few devices are actively moving data thorugh the router:

    Xbox: 1.61 Mbps

    My Pc: 0.04 Mbps

    Smart TV: 0.01 Mbps

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Best regards, Louis.

    Optimum settings:

    1. Enable the prioritization of media with the value downstream bandwidth wired www.speedtest.net * 1024
    2. Activate the Support WMM (default)
    3. Mixture of 5 GHz wireless protocol
    4. Auto width for the 5 GHz wireless channel
    5. 2.4 wireless protocol "b\g\n only".
    6. Auto width for 2.4 Ghz wireless channel
    7. The 5 GHz and 2.4 Ghz Wireless Security "WPA2 Personal" unmixed

The trick is that MP must be properly configured on and off once. After that, you can decide if MP is necessary. This initializes correctly the QOS system.

If you want an additional 3db of the signal on the 2.4 GHz change width 2,4 Ghz to 20 Mhz.

  • WRT 1900ACS removes wireless LAN file transfers and internet connection

I have WRT1900ACS which is declining by almost every file transfer wireless LAN I get out of a wireless laptop to a PC connected by cable; So far, I'm using the latest firmware version: 1.0.1.174588 and both are version of Windows 10 PC 1607.

When I transfer a lot of small files, the transfer stops after about 2-4%, drops wireless connection and the adapter will not reconnect. I have to restart the wireless computer to get the wireless adapter to connect again.

This would seem to indicate a problem with wireless network card driver. The same id of the event was logged in the forum thread below:

  • Linksys WRT 1900ac internet connectivity issues

I apologize in advance for a potentially easy question, but I'm not very familiar with how to solve these problems, but I digress. I recently bought a new router to replace and older router that was functional, but the beach leaves to be desired. The old router, which was a cisco worked fine, but when I plugged my 1900ac upwards the light internet blinking white, and I have no idea how to fix this. I don't have any internet access. I am currently using my old router. any other important information that my ISP is Atlantic broadband and the supplied modem was a motorola SB5120 surfboard cable modem. I would really appeciate a soultion wise step to my problem.

Try the cable modem and the router, and then plug off the modem. Wait for the modem to get all it's lights on. Then reconnect the router. Some modems/ISP lock the MAC address in the cable modem, so it will not 'allow' traffic unless they match.

  • Cannot cling to the network-WRT 54GS

Every day I learn something. Today I learned that I don't know sh *. I have an old WRT54GS router (what a V1.2?) and a 54GS WUSB adapter. I'm back to the old system after having tried a Netgear N system added strength or speed signal. After a near collapse install antivirus stuff, my computer froze and I had to do a system restore. But then he could not connect to the network. After hours fiddling with IP addresses and others, I finally got online, during about three minutes then, he said that it was out of line - but it wasn't. The red X was over the icon in the toolbar, but the connection only remained connected or re-connected. Whatever it is, I had access for about 5 minutes more. When I got the message that there is a network in range, I knew I was gone. To restore the connection, I had to go back and put in the network key. Same scenario, 3 minutes with the icon that shows the connection, 5 minutes more connected but said I was not logged, then disconnect and the message that the networks were available. During this "in between of phase" of connected while being said I'm not, I can check on my network and get the message «you are currently connected to the network...» "while he proclaims not connected. When I hilight the network, it is for me the button to disconnect from the network. I'm confused and certainly my office is confused. This is an XP machine. My Vista laptop did all settings in good condition (not that I would NEVER say anything good about Vista) HELP!

Well what you can do is you can just uninstall and reinstall the wireless adapter.

Please follow these steps to uninstall and reinstall the wireless adapter.

Click on the start ==> all programs ==> look for Linksys Wireless USB adapt and uninstall it.

Now to install the wireless adapter, click here.
