Short DST Test failed

My Compaq Presario CQ62-23 1NR specifications has been freezing and locking up.

The tools of diagnosis HP just told me that the Quick Test of the DST failed and directed me to this website.

The failure ID is PLP9B3-55271 X-XD003G-60WC03

This laptop is out of warranty.

What are my options?

Hello

Your laptop is listed as coming with a 320 GB hard drive, but since there is no real difference in cost, you can just as easily install a 500 GB or750Gb HARD drive if you want a little more than space - readers at the following links are examples that would be perfect for your laptop.

Hard drive 500 GB

750 GB hard drive.

The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 57 of your & Maintenance Guide.

Once this is done, simply use your recovery DVD to reinstall the operating system on the new drive - this is described in the document of HP here.

If you do not have your recovery discs, you can order a replacement set using the link below.

Order HP recovery disks.

If you have a problem with this link, order them directly from HP.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

Best regards

  • TouchSmart 15-d053cl: disk hard short DST Test failed

    Hello

Recently, my computer froze completely, and I stopped him with a long press on the power button. When I turned it back on, Windows would not start. It would not start for a very long time and finally the hard drive would become inactive. I open the BIOS diagnostics and ran a test of the system. I got the following error message:

Test of DST short hard disk failed

    Error code: RLLFTT - 7717 ST-MFKR6J - 60S 003

    Product ID: F5Y25UA #ABA

Does this mean that my hard drive is defective? Since I've been able to boot into Windows, but it runs a lot slower. Do I need to worry? I ran Chkdsk, but he finds no errors. My files are still in place and I am able to access very well. What should I do about it?

    Thank you!

Your hard drive is defective and must be replaced.  You can continue to use your system as-is, but it will continue to get slower and, possibly, you will have problems to start as you have done before.  It is recommended that you back up of your data (photos, documents, etc.) on external media (flash drive) and then replace the hard disk.  After replacing the drive hard, you have to reinstall the Windows operating system using the HP recovery media.

It is not very difficult not expensive to replace the hard drive, so we can walk you through it.  If you are in warranty, you can contact HP for replacement parts.  If you are out of warranty, then you need to buy a replacement hard drive and the HP recovery media.

  • Short DST check failed

My laptop is HP g002ax, and it opens to a black screen in normal mode after showing the symbol of hp. I did an update of the bios is a few days. So I tried to roll back the bios, but it did not help. I conducted tests of the system and found that the short dst check has failed. Then I opened the windows in safe mode and took a backup of my important data. I think that if it opens in safe mode, it must be due to some corrupt software, not hardware. What should I do? I tried to uninstall the GPU drivers, but that has not helped as well. I recently ran out of warranty and I don't want now replacements. Is there a way it can be rectified. Help, please! System restore or reset Windows? Please get me a solution.

I have not said no replacement please. And it was really some corrupt software. Reset solved the problem Windows player. in any case thanks for trying to help. Bravo

It is likely that you will need to replace the hard drive.  To confirm, press F12 at startup, enter the Dell diagnostics.  Run an extended hard drive test.

If the system is under warranty, logs the error and contact Dell for a replacement drive.

If the system is out of warranty, any standard 3.5 "SATA drive will work as a replacement.

I also went in the BIOS BOOT MENU by pressing F12 at startup and ran diagnostics that seemed to have said everything going, however I saw a mistake, faliure in its process that was too fast for me to write the error.

In a nutshell, my thought is that my hard drive has failed / is corrupted or is about to fail.

My simple question is, do I need a new hard drive with the information I've provided?

Error code 24 characters for short drive Self Test (DST) would indicate that the hard disk is defective/HAS FAILED and must be replaced.  This is also consistent with the startup problem you describe.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP with the ID of the failure and to make arrangements for the replaced disk - you can check the status of your warranty here.

But this isn't the critical error blue screen. It is a kind of windows bitmap.

With the help of the Esc and F2, I could do a Test of the system. DST short (not sure what that means...) says: FAILED.

It gives details on the FAILURE ID: 64SP28-5HB7AC-XD003F-60VF03

What should I do next? I'm not really in there, so please keep the answer "newbee-style". Thank you very much...

The laptop is an HP DV6-3160SD, W7 model running on it. Do not know the version of bits (and cannot check it out).

Hoping for advice and assistance. Richard

    Hi Richard,

    You are welcome

No matter if you choose a Sata II (3 Gb/s) or Sata III (6 Gb/s) - your laptop's Sata II, Sata III is fully backward compatible.

You are not limited to any particular manufacturer (HP make readers).

The speed of rotation of the drive any (5400 RPM or 7200 RPM).

The only point that you should keep in mind is to buy a disk at least - that is to say 500Gb - to the original (a bit bigger is okay) as lower capacity disks can cause problems if you use recovery media to reinstall the operating system.

  • Could not start, laptop computer, disk hard short DTS test failed

I am currently not able to start my laptop properly. I have a HP Pavillion G6.

When I start it, it stays on the screen with the HP logo and a black background for awhile and eventually get to a black screen with the cursor visible and mobile, but unable to do anything else.

I tried to press F11 at startup to restore the factory settings, the system recognizes the key but leads straight to a black screen that I left it for several hours, but nothing happens.

I have gone on the menu of system diagnostics and run a quick test that revealed the Hard Drive DST short, Check failed.

Will I need a new hard drive? Or is it possible to fix it?

If I need a new, where can I get one from?

    Hello

The short drive Self Test (DST) failure would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.  This is also consistent with recovery and startup problems you describe.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.
