shortcuts to the internet protocol
When I try to create a desktop icon to a Web site I get the message
Unable to open this Internet shortcut. The "http" Protocol is not a registered program
You must set the internet program by default. Usually, your browser will ask you to make the default to manage the http protocol, but if not, you will need to manually set in the browser options.
If you use Internet explorer, go to control panel Internet Options-->--> click programs, and then click the button "make default".
If you use Firefox, go to the menu of Firefox--> Options--> click on the Advanced tab, and then click the button 'Make Firefox the default browser'
I do not use so I can't give you exact measurements, but in other browsers as well, you should find the option other browsers.

Is there a way to make the shortcuts for Internet Protocol Version 4?
Hello
I have the Internet Protocol V4 settings:
IP address: 192.168.0.101
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.1
Preferred DNS server: 192.168.0.1
I want to know if there is some way to make the shortcut for these settings so I can click on this shortcut when I want to configure the Internet Protocol V4?
Thank you
Rami,
Yes, you can do what you want. See this forum is different for different networks available static IP thread and the thread of TechNet that it links to is it possible to assign a static for each TechNet netowrk IP address
Once you configure the properties they should stay that way so please can you explain why you want to be able to keep these values reset?

Could not open the Internet from the desktop shortcut
original title; Problem with shortcut on Windows 7
Today I bought a laptop and when I create a shortcut on my desktop its fine, but when I try to open a shortcut a box pops up saying... Unable to open this Internet shortcut. The "http" Protocol is not a registered program. What is c? and how can I retify it. Thank you very much
Looks like there could be a typing error in your shortcut. For websites, it must start with http://. If not, this could be your problem.
Good luck.

the "http" Protocol is not registered program
edited the title was 'Sir'>
Windows 7 for example, I try to go to gmail and I get this: problem with shortcut. Unable to open this Internet shortcut. The "http" Protocol doesn't have a registered program. Gift; t know where it comes from. How to fix?
Your Internet shortcut is corrupt. You can edit and fix, but it is probably simplest to just delete the shortcut on your desktop and create a new.
For example, to access Gmail, open Internet Explorer and go to the Gmail login page (click on--> https://accounts.google.com/ServiceLogin?service=mail&continue=https://mail.google.com/mail/)
Click the file menu, and then click on send, and then click shortcut on the desktop. Click Yes in the box that opens.
If you don't see the file menu, right-click in the title (top) bar, then click on the left 'menu bar '.
If this does not help, then
Set Internet Explorer as default browser-
- Click Start and type default programs in the search box
- Click on the link that is
- Click on the "Set your default programs" link
- Select Internet Explorer from the list on the left and then click on "Set this program as default"
- Click OK

Satellite A80: Failure to connect to the internet via an ethernet cable
I'm having problems to get an internet connection via a cable ethernet to my office. The laptop works everywhere else, but not in the office. The strangest thing is that my desktop at the office computer works perfectly with the same cable.
The icon in the taskbar of configfree reads "MARVELL YUKON 88E8036 PC... 169.254.95.8"no matter how many times I disconnect and reconnect it to my office. Curiously, the IP Office when it is connected to the same cable is 192.168.1.69.
I was told to change the tcp/ip properties manually, but I'm not able to do because I have not all entries in the NETWORK CONNECTIONS or can't seem to create a new.
I would be grateful if anyone has any suggestions.
Hello
I wonder why you have no entries for network connections.
Click Start-> settings-> network connections-> connections to the Local network-> propertiesSelect the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties.
If you use a server in your office and the IP address is assigned automatically then all TCP/IP parameters must be on automaticallyCheck it!

Windows XP cannot see that the internet can only see LAN
We have a small network in my house. My router was set to WEP security (I know its too old, but my windows xp laptop computer does not work with WPA or newer). And I also added mac filtering for more security addresses. This network has worked well for 2 years.
Meanwhile in a cell phone (that has windows XP sp3) so its wireless network broke, and we couldn't get living, then we just plugged on the router via a cable.
Recently I had to reset my router because I forgot a password and I could add anything to the mac filter list.
After that, I put at 'the original' for example WEP + mac filtering (only the passwords have been changed).
Now everything is working fine, 2 laptops (both Windows 7 a), 2 readers, network all our phones smart etc can connect again, the only laptop (with Windows XP) problem.
The XP laptop can see LAN (two disks) and router only (ping works), but in any browser (firefox, chrome, iexplorer) give me a Web site cannot loaded in the background: error 105, Err_name_not_resolved.
I tried names ping (google.com) and different ip addresses (for example my ISP dns server address) but I get no answer 100% packet loss. I tried a lot of things that they did not help
(1) has tried to change my XP for some fix + fix dns ip (I found these adressis in my router configuration/network configuration)
(2) then I put back to dynamic ip once again in the line of cmd ipconfig release, ipconfig/reset, etc., I checked all addresses was going well everywhere (I mean gateway, DHCP server, dns server, looked well with dynamic ip too)
(3) then I found similar position

so I tried also what is in the post
"netsh winsock reset" "netsh int ip reset" then "ipconfig/flushdns" then restart computerNothing helped so I registered here, maybe I answer.

Thank you for your answer
RobertHi Robert,.
Thank you for updating us the status of the case.
I suggest that temporarily disable you the firewall.
I recommend you to test name resolution
A DNS server provides host name resolution. If you cannot connect to a server on the Internet by using its FQDN, there could be a problem with the DNS configuration of your dial-up connection to your ISP or DNS server of your ISP.
To determine if there is a problem with the DNS configuration of your dial-up to your ISP connection, follow these steps:
a. at a command prompt, type ipconfig/all, and then press ENTER to display the IP address of your DNS server. If the IP address of your DNS server does not appear, contact your ISP for the IP address of your DNS server.
(b) to verify that your computer can communicate with your DNS server, ping IP address of your DNS server. The response looks like this:
Rattling #. ###. ###. # with 32 bytes of data:
Response to #. ###. ###. #: bytes = 32 time = 77ms TTL = 28
Response to #. ###. ###. #: bytes = 32 time = 80ms TTL = 28
Response to #. ###. ###. #: bytes = 32 time = 78ms TTL = 28
Response to #. ###. ###. #: bytes = 32 time = 79ms TTL = 28The series of digital signs (#. #. #. #) represents the IP address of the DNS server.
If you can't ping the IP address of the DNS server successfully, contact your ISP to verify that you are using the IP address and the DNS server is working properly.
When you have verified the correct IP address of your DNS server, update the settings of your connection to your ISP's dial-up TCP/IP. To change or add a valid IP address for your DNS server for a dial-up Networking phonebook entry, follow these steps:a. in Control Panel, double-click network connections.
b. right click on your Internet connection, click Properties and then click the network tab.
c. click the Internet Protocol adapter, and then click Properties.
d. click use the following DNS server address, and then type the correct IP address in the preferred DNS server box.
e. click OK, and then click OK again.

Unable to connect to the internet after the removal of system tool virus
A computer running Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002, Service Pack 3 has got a virus System Tool which I believe I deleted using the key of activation and then run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. On reboot, the system tool icon was still in the system tray, so I ran Norton 360 to remove unwanted registry files. He got rid of the icon in the system tray. I also then removed the Malwarebytes software. Please note that, while I was removing the virus, I was able to connect to AOL so that in mode safe mode with networking. Finally, who has stopped working. The Malwarebytes software has been downloaded on the infected computer with a flash drive from a computer with working internet.
I cannot now connect to the internet with Internet Explorer 8 or AOL (under standard or secure modes). When you are trying to connect with IE8, the message reads 'Internet Explorer cannot display the web page' and when I run the diagnostic tests, it indicates there is a problem with the modem and/or router. These devices are, however, both the work that there are other computers connected to them and they work.
I tried Microsoft solutions are answers to a similar question. Unfortunately, none of them worked in my situation. They have been in accordance with the following:
No doubt...
What happens when you try to connect to the Internet?

Generally, any part of this procedure is necessary after removing Antivir Solution Pro (a well documented removal procedure would have included the steps to cancel Internet connectivity issues). I would get my infected system and try the procedure you used to see how it works.

The removal of the virus seems to have taken some required system files. See if the System File Checker helps. Click Start > run and enter in the field open.
sfc/scannow
Press ENTER. The System File Checker must detect the missing necessary files and put back them. If this does not work, use a system restore point from before you were infected. If this does not work, get out of your XP installation diskettes.

local access only: unable to connect to the internet
Recently, my laptop has trouble to connect to my home network. It's a laptop Dell and Windows Vista. This laptop used to connect wirelessly to the network without any problem, but lately, whenever it connects, it is said that "local access" and does not allow me to use the internet. " This problem occurred at the same time I replaced my old router with a new. Another laptop and other devices can still connect to the internet with this new router with no problems, but my laptop stops the message "local access only".
After some research, I discovered that in typing "Cmd" in the search bar after clicking the start menu, run this program as an administrator, type "netsh int ip reset" in the command prompt, then by restarting my computer would fix my problem and my laptop would work very well and connect to the network and to the internet with no problems. However, as soon as my laptop is entered 'sleep' mode or has been disabled, when it was turned on again the problem persists and I have to follow the process of using the command prompt and restart the computer every time I turned on my laptop.
As you can imagine, this process can be quite annoying and I would like to find a more permanent solution to my problem, especially since the past several times, I tried this workaround, it failed, so my laptop is once more without internet access. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be appreciated I am completely puzzled. Thanks for any help.
Hello
Method 1
I suggest you try the steps from the following link:Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or some non-Microsoft DHCP servers
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/928233Note: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article: back up the registry in Windows Vista

Hello
Have you made changes on the computer before this problem?
This problem may occur because of driver or network connection settings.
Try the following and see if it helps.
Method 1:
Refer to the steps in the following Microsoft article and check if that helps.
How can I troubleshoot network card?
Method 2:
This problem can occur if authentication enable IEEE 802. 1 X for this network checkbox is enabled. If this box is checked, but there is no server to authenticate the connection is interrupted. If you turn on the wireless network connection, it disconnects again after a short period.
To disable authentication IEEE 802. 1 X, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, type ncpa.cpl, and then press ENTER.
b. right click on your wireless network connection, then click Properties.
c. click the wireless networks tab.
d. under preferred networks, click your wireless network, and then click Properties.
e. click on the Authentication tab, click to clear the authentication enable IEEE 802. 1 X for this network check box and then click OK twice.
Method 3:
I suggest that you do the following and check if it helps.
a. click "Start", enter "NCPA. CPL"(without the quotes) and press ENTER.
b. right-click on the connection you use for the local connection, and then click "Properties".
c. Click to select 'Protocol Internet Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)' and then click 'properties '.
d. in the Internet Protocol window, we will change the "Preferred DNS server" to 208.67.222.222
e. click 'OK' twice to complete the change.
Hope that the information provided is useful.
