Should I enable ACPI 2.0?
Hello
I installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my pc and I am lucky to have an ASUS P5KPL-AM SE motherboard. On the motherboard BIOS, power, there is an option called ACPI 2.0 which is set by default to OFF. Can I activate this option or not? Thank you.
Hi strike91,
Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) is an industry standard that defines power management features and other information of setting up computers. Some previous versions of BIOS ACPI do not support, and so the computer could not correctly enter the power peak as the standby or hibernate modes.
Standard ACPI 2.0 is required by windows 7 to work properly. ACPI 2.0 allows increased control of the operating system of the power management function.
For more information, see the documentation provided with your computer or go to the website of the manufacturer of the computer.
Caution:
Be careful when you change the BIOS settings. The BIOS interface is designed for advanced users, and it is possible to change a setting that can prevent your computer from starting properly.
BIOS update should be made only if necessary (to solve a compatibility problem, for example). It can be a complicated process, and if an error occurs, your computer could be rendered inoperative. Be sure to observe the instructions of the manufacturer.
I hope this helps!

When should I enable STP?
Hello
I have my network with 300 series switches. We work in mode layer 3 and all other switches are layer 2.
I don't have a redundant path between switches. Should I enable STP? or is not necessary?
Thank you very much.
Hey Ruy,
It is rare to STP cause problems. There are a few rare cases it will cause a problem but overall after active STP should not affect your network.
I would recommend double checking everything on your network before you disable STP. Just one missed cable and your whole network freezes in a broadcast storm.

NB100: How can I get ACPI working under XP
Hello world
I wonder how I can get ACPI working under XP.
When I enable it in the BIOS, Windows will not start... Should I load the drivers during the installation of Windows XP? That would lead me to my next problem, because the command line switch - one for the extraction of the driver does not work... Does not extract the files either.Or y at - there a way to add ACPI to my XP install is already running (the BIOS ACPI option is currently set to "compatibility"?
Thanks in advance!
As far as I know before enabling ACPI in the BIOS, you must remove the standard PC driver in Device Manager and install the ACPI driver.
Then go into the BIOS, turn it on and should start Windows. In the Microsoft Knowledge Base, I found an article on the ACPI Compatibility:

How to enable JavaScript on Firefox 32.0 to my Windows Vista desktop?
Hello: I'm watching youtube videos were freezing after about 15 seconds. The good folks at Google lead me through troubleshooting tips. I definition standard (and slow) DSL and the other trick is to enable JavaScript. I'm not a computer expert. Pls advise me how to enable JavaScript.
Thank you very much.
In Firefox JavaScript should be enabled by default.
If you want to check, and then type Subject: config in the address bar (address) as you type www.example.com
Then in the filter box type top of page in javascript and you should find the javascript.enabled is the default value and true which means that it is enabled.
Just to be sure, Java and JavaScript are two different things, and Java is not necessary for Youtube.

My computer must be enabled for scheduled scans start?
Stupid question: if I have a security scan scheduled to be said at 02:00, my computer should be enabled?
Hello GKGibb,
Yes I am afraid that your PC has to be turned on for a scheduled task start. Without power, the task is ignored and scheduled for the next available time. Once again the PC is turned off, then the scheduled task will still be ignored.

original title: Hidden Administrator
Hi, the hidden administrator account is hidden by default, must it be left enabled and protected by password? or must it be left empty without password as default. It is advisable to use this every day as the previous version of windows that you are running as an administrator, or another account should be created?
These two methods are the same and have the same effect and the same security protection, but which is better?

If the built-in administrator should be enabled or disabled is really your choice.
If you decide to keep activated:
1. give it a password (make a written copy and not to lose).
2. it MUST not be used on a daily basis.
3. should your emergency backup Administrator account ONLY.
4. you must create an account admin with you as an administrator.
5. the choice is yours. Others will say that you must open a regular user account and use it for every day. If you agree, do.t-4-2

How to enable / disable certain fields based on the value of the checkbox
This is probably a stupid question, but I was not able to find the trivial solution (I'm fairly new to the user's BlackBerry interface)
Example scenario:
Screen of the user interface with two components
box: "Run daily.
time field: ' to hh: mm ".
If the check box is enabled, the hour field must be activated. If the check box is not selected, the time field should be disabled.
I wasn't able to find a simple solution. The solution is to remove all components and re-create it with different style (Field.NON_FOCUSABLE |) Field.READONLY), but there are significant drawbacks:
- It's pretty messy keep the current value (if the user has modified the time field and click twice on the box, I would like to have the same value and the field must be dirty)
- She becomes more messy when you have more complicated logic (panels inside panels that should be enabled / disabled based on all parent checkboxes)
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
The way I handled it was to the custom methods in areas that allow me to set the disabled and then state substitute TouchEvent, NavigationMovement and NavigationClick methods to search for this variable and simply return true if it is defined. This will take care of the FieldChanged States and targeted to make them unable to be activated.

Hello
127.127.1.0 NTP server should be enabled, EVEN IF I DO NOT HAVE a NTP server as 127.127.1.0 is the default installation
In my environment, I have not any NTP server. I found that if you enabled or disabled, it will be a moment and would like to know where is the time that it comes?
I mentioned the only one, because it seems that your time zone in vi client and your time zone in esx are not properly sync'd. You have restarted the server after setting the time and was the incorrect time after you restart the server?
Again, for the first time, you set your time zone information, the time of BIOS is used. If your system does not correctly update the BIOS (hwclock) after your time zone, then a reboot may cause your time skew.
So, in my case, I copy comes it so I know that the area is correct. Then update the time on ESX directly to find out the time that I put is correct in the time zone, I'll put in ESX for instead of using the vi client. In this way, no translation occurs. You can do this by using the date command (date MMDDhhmm). Run 'date' to check the time current system. Run 'hwclock' to check the BIOS time. Finally, synchronize the clock of the BIOS with your current time (hwclock--systohc) and check with hwclock.

How Autostart is supposed to work for invited NT4?
NT4 has no ACPI support so clean shutdown is not possible so activating Autostart (after shared virtual machine configuration) will always result in VM not to close properly. This does not work, but there is no mention of anywhere in the documentation.
Why not the possibility to select suspend instead of shutdown? It's an easy solution to this problem for NT.
For anyone interested, it works now.
The solution includes the following:
- http://blogs.technet.com/b/jhoward/Archive/2005/06/09/405926.aspx do I get support ACPI enabled (thanks to Bernd Nowak for this suggestion)
This was a problem because the host VMware process has high CPU when you switch to the softex hal.dll. The best approach, that is not the question of the CPU can be found here: How to turn off a computer virtual with Windows NT 4 - A shutdown script custom configured in VMtools guest (thanks to wila for suggesting to use scripts). The script should call the shutdown.exe downloaded here: beyond logic Shutdown for NT/2000/XP) the "poweroff-s' will be put out of service and poweroff the VM of NT (after enabling ACPI support).
- Implement the auto start/stop solution found here: the Virtual Machines VMware Autostart on Boot Linux | Tommy Butler -I did not use the feature of automatic start of the shared virtual machines as which implement not a hitchhiking. Solution of Tommy Butler took care of start and stop. (NOTE: there seems to be a slight problem with autostop working if the main workstation window is open when the reboot of the host/shutsdown - this is considered to be a minor problem and will most likely be resolved with a script to logoff if necessary).
- There was a problem with inoperable invited NIC started automatically for VMs. A workaround solution has been found and listed here: network unusable for started automatically shared MV - workstation Pro 12
Thanks again to all who have contributed. I am extremely satisfied with this result.
