Should I have my firewall on at all because I have Microsoft Security Essentials?

Original title: Firewall Question

I can access photos and music from my computer to the TV if I turn off my windows firewall.  Should I have my firewall on at all because I have Microsoft Security Essentials?

Hello

The short answer is Yes, you need the firewall-firewall blocking incoming and outgoing communication except for these applications which his self-taught (trained) are safe allow and therefore blocking unwanted software / unknown (programs, Trojan horses, software spyware, etc.). On the other hand, Microsoft Security Essentials is an antivirus application, that caters to a specific type of malware - virus.

If the problem is the firewall, let me suggest another freeware firewall that has targeted training, so that you can train to your TV and your computer communicate securely. This program is PrivateFirewall, download it here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Firewall/Privatefirewall.shtml - this is the firewall that I have used successfully on my own computer for several years now.

Let me know if this solves the problem for you.

Kind regards

You really should only use an antivirus product that use an Analyzer to access because they can collide so slow the system down and jeopardize the protection they offer. Manually run standalone detectors are acceptable if used with care and sparingly.

As for the one which should not be to make a specific recommendation that they have different characteristics that can meet your requirements. Personally, I used AVG, Avast and MSE and now confine myself to the last as a free application base.

If you have Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, McAfee, Norton, etc. installed, they have a conflict with Windows Defender, or turn it off.

Microsoft Security Essentials has its own integrated version of the defender and should automatically disable the version of Vista in Windows Defender.

Here are a few suggestions of Stephen Boots, moderator of the MSE Forum about fake antivirus programs and prevention measures General malware:

Unfortunately, this type of malware attacks are difficult to follow because they fool you by letting them install. They usually come to an infected web site and usually an advertisement. You get a pop up of infection and click on it to close the window pop up that allows you to install infection.  They can also be provided in a "drive-by" mode without any action required by the user due to the system being unpatched, any security software is running.

When you encounter one of these fake virus pop - up during navigation, immediately do the following:

-Do not touch any window of browser to close or navigate away.
-Immediately, press Ctrl-Shift-Esc and bring up the Task Manager and end by force all instances of iexplore.exe, if you use Internet Explorer, or the executable for the browser you are using.
    -or-
-Go to start/stop and reboot the PC without touching the browser windows.
-If you used the Task Manager to close the browser instances, restart the machine.
-Then go in the Internet/Panel control Options and delete all temporary Internet files and cookies. If you use another browser, open the browser settings to do the same - to delete the local cached files and cookies.
-Perform a full scan with your anti-malware program.

The steps above should prevent infection taking root.

In addition to using an anti-malware program, the following recommendations will help to protect the PC from infection:

S ' ensure that the Windows Firewall is enabled.

S ' ensure that all critical updates or important, including service packs for the operating system and programs are installed from Microsoft Update (Windows Update).

-Make sure that Internet Explorer is version 8 or higher and put up-to-date with all the patches.

-In Internet Explorer 8 or 9, use the SmartScreen filter.

-Make sure that the Internet IE security settings are at least put to fire medium-high (default).

-Turn on the pop-up blocker in Internet Explorer.

-On Vista and Windows 7 make sure that thatUser Account Control (UAC) and doesn't work with elevated privileges.

-Make sure that automatic updates of Windows are set to notify at least, but the preferred setting is to download and install automatically. If you update manually, be sure to update as soon as possible after being informed of updates available.

-Make sure that installed applications, including Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Flash and Java are at their latest versions. Many vendors are regularly updated and fixes security vulnerabilities.

-Never click through links from unknown sources and be careful, even if they are from a "reliable".

-Do not open attachments in unsolicited e-mail.

    Good luck...

  • Disabled the HTTPS option in Hotmail and problems with the Windows Firewall, Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows updates.

Original title: Windows Live Hotmail only opens a new window links e-mail composition!

I recently put my Windows Live Hotmail account to my default e-mail client in Internet Explorer 8 on my Windows XP SP3 System. Unfortunately, whenever I click on a link to e-mail on a Web page to open a new message, Hotmail tells me, "Sorry, there seems to be a problem with Hotmail right now", and a new/compose message window does not open. I disabled the HTTPS option in Hotmail, which fixed the problem. However, when I went to do a manual update of Windows, I am nailed with a Trojan horse! Apparently, the Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials have been affected by turning off HTTPS in Hotmail! It's 2012, and it's terribly disappointing that Microsoft only has not ironed out all the imperfections in these services now. If anyone can give me a solution (in simple terms), I would appreciate it!

    Thank you

  • I get the error message "Microsoft Client Protection has been found", but I don't have MS Security Essentials installed now what

First story... I installed MS Security Essentials, but I get something into my computer that caused his failure.  It would not uninstall, and then finally after a long struggle I finally got deleted.  I have no reference to it in the registry nor are there all of the folders on the computer I can find have all files to make it.  I tried to install it again but I always get an error that it cannot find the mp_ambits.msi file.  Even when I run at the prompt of msg in the folder newly created with this file in there.

I then tried to have at least the Defender installed to see running windows and then I get the "Protection of the MS Client has been found" which refers to the MS Security Essentials, which is not installed.  But there is obviously some there remains something that makes my system "THINKS" that Essentials is installed.

Anyone has an idea on how the devil clear this issue so that I can either install Windows Defender or Security Essentials?

    Hi BillSheets,

Try to use the cleanup utility to remove the program completely from your computer:

    For more information, see:

Before installing Security Essentials, refer to this article:
  • I have Microsoft s Essentials, in the past, I've always had a prog to Add anti-virus ' l. run also, for example, Norton, etc. Can I still use the prog to Add anti-virus ' l.?

I bought Trend Micro Pro 3.0 (old version) & installed the ver.1st of the trial. I have Windows Vista Home Premium SP 2 and IE 9. The prog. would not respond. I thought that it might have been a conflict w/Microsoft Security Essentials (which was never a prob. in the past), although I have deleted the virus Microsoft prog. Trend Micro has always failed. I think now that it was (not) compatible with IE 9. I've got uninstallled prog of Trend Micro Pro 3.0. and have re-installed the program Microsoft Security Essentials. I have a Playstation 3 & an Android phone, I still have to connect to my PC. I want to download anti-virus Norton 360 or Norton Internet Security, or a more recent version of Trend Micro Titanium Antivirus Program (for peace of mind). I want to still keep the program Microsoft Security Essentials, I was feeling pretty yucky before deletion because in the past, that I don't have problems like this, as when I had Norton Internet Security. It also applies when I had a trial version of Avast Antivirus running with Microsoft Security Essentials, with no problems (I cared not for Avast, that's just my personal preference). My hands & arms are bad, I think I can have on a explained all of this, I hope not. Thank you for your patience.           Thanks for any help (tips), you are able to provide.   dceb2

It is not a good idea to run more than one antivirus real-time program together. The potential is there for the conflicts and it slows down your system.
To avoid these problems, use only one anti-virus solution. It is your choice to decide which one to use.

  • Should I Norton and Microsoft Security Essentials Virus protection?

I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials for a long time; but I keep getting popup windows telling me that they cannot provide protection against viruses because they did not have a virus to day something - or - others.

Two windows appear, one after the other, both have an error number. If I followed the instructions I always come back to a selection of Norton anti packages of virus which must be repaid, which I don't want. That's why I installed Microsoft Security Essentials, because I was sick of seeing these things and try to follow the instructions always with the same results.

Recently, I clicked on something in laptops and has seen a long list of time that requests had been made by Norton get me their updates - it was very very long.

I don't know what it is all about - what it means? I find it more than an irritation. These pop-ups will light up whenever I start the computer. Can I stop this?  Do I have Norton and Microsoft - I realized that any previous protection system would be obsolete when I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials.

Microsoft Security Essentials NOT came with the firewall, you can use the Windows Firewall in your firewall. You must use the Windows Firewall.

In this article, you may need to change a registry value, very careful when you do this. I suggest to backup registry before trying to solve.
