  I can't get windows updates keep giving me. I think I'm up to about 55 so far. I can't get the drivers installed by windows - they install form Epson, but then a pop-up at the bottom of the screen says unable to install the drivers and it cannot recognize my printer. I also tried to download Heimdal and is not yet open. I tried to find WindowsUpdate.log to see what is happening and what I can see is not permitted.   On the website of HP, I downloaded the device drivers for this machine/operating system combination. These downloaded files are .exe files. I put them on a USB key so that I can transfer them to the laptop. I thought I'd install them as follows:

  It does not work. Windows does not recognize the files .exe as pilots.

  If this driver is messing up big time for you, then do not run any more.

  Here's what I did... I have zipped and attached below in attachments, the raw smbus controller driver files to decompress and install manually.  It should work without any drama.

  Download and unzip the file.

  Go to Device Manager and click the controller smbus needing drivers.  Click the driver tab.  Click on set to update driver.

  Select her browse my computer for driver software option and navigate to the driver folder that you unzipped.

  Make sure that the include subfolders is selected and the driver should install.  Then restart.
