  • Should I leave a new Windows 7 PC, or brave upgrade to Windows 8?

I got a new PC for making development here at work.  It's a big office.  He's still in the box.  This is to replace my current Windows 7 Ultimate computer.  I wonder if it might be a good idea to upgrade to Windows 8; After all what will be published later this week.  The upgrade path, if I understand correctly, Windows 7 Ultimate is Windows 8 Pro or maybe Windows 8 Enterprise.  (I work in an Active Directory domain, even if the field is a bit old.  It's ad on Windows 2003 R2 servers.  However, perhaps that will change in the next year or two).  A big worry I did installing our applications.  We have multiple line of business applications, we wrote that must be installed.  In my local .NET, a guy from user group reported that install Windows 8 Pro, for him, was a disaster.  He had Visual Studio 2012 installed while it was a Windows 7 machine, now he can't use VS 2012.  I need to use VS 2005, VS 2008 and VS 2010, and if all goes well, we'll move to VS 2012.  And there are other applications, we need (Crystal, SQL Server Developer Edition, SQL Server Express, etc.)  I thought that would be nice, but then I heard people in my saying local group that it won't work, you need to get all apps from the store of Windows even if you run in desktop mode, because you can not install anything at all in desktop mode, etc.  I get a lot of mixed messages here and don't know who or what to believe.

First of all, they are incorrect. You don't have to install applications on the Store. It is only in the edition of RT (ARM powered tablets). With versions of Windows 8 Pro/Enterprise, the office is fully functional, and all existing applications should work with it. If it works in Windows 7, 99.99% sure it will work in Windows 8. You can install programs as you could before using the desktop computer, and they will behave as they did in Windows 7.

  • After a system restore to a time before Windows XP, should I leave Safe Mode and restart normally? What other steps should I take in Mode safe?

After a system restore to a time before Windows XP, should I leave Safe Mode and restart normally.  Completely restored restore operation the registry both before the intrusion of viruses if the date and time specified as the restore point is earlier than the time of the intrusion, but in the same 'on' the cycle of computer?  I have to do something else before going back to safe mode?

Time as about 23:00 last night 7/29 restoration, first known intrusion by "XP Home Security 2012" was shortly after midnight 7/30.

I ended up a sde.exe process, which stopped the pop-ups.  A full scan with Norton quarantine, JS. SecurityTool.  After a restart of the computer, the normal features of the programs has been lost by the "Run" menu or icons on the desktop.  By clicking on the icon for the normal .exe files redirected to the dialog box "select a program to open.

I restarted in Mode safe mode with networking and then restore.  I tried opening IE and Excel and that they work properly in Mode without failure.  They will work correctly when I leave Safe Mode and restart normally.  Should I test other specific applications.

XP Home Security 2012 seems to have accessed or modified some files to DropBox (not sure how this program was installed, but it was already on).

Should I delete all DropBox files, just those showing a modification date corresponding to the intrusion of XP Home Security 2012, or don't you worry about this?

System Restore IS NOT the way to remove malware. The reason why you do not see the effects of the malware in safe mode is probably due to the fact that the process for most malware does not load in safe mode, and therefore not active.

Restart the computer in Safe Mode with network. Click HERE. Download Malwarebytes. Update Malwarebytes and perform a full scan.  Choose to quarantine found nothing. Once completed click HERE and download Superantispyware Portable. Run a full scan quarantined found anything yet. Restart your computer in normal mode and perform a quick scan with Malwarebytes.

  • Desktop HP Envy: should I leave computer 24/7?

Can I leave my computer on 24/7 instead of turn off every night?  I mode "Eve" and the power PC and monitor down automatically after 30 minutes, and only I have to click with the mouse to bring back to life when I want to use it.  It seems that if I turn it off completely and then turn it back on every time, it takes time and would be hard on the computer.  On and off, on and off, on and off, does not seem a good idea for me.

Windows 10 provides automatic updates of your operating system - some updates, in fact, many Windows updates - require that at least the computer be restarted.

In general, assuming that the operating system is healthy, your hardware works as expected, your drivers are up to date and functional, and you run decent security software, with stop on the system is a safe way to manage the computer.

Leaving the computer 'on' all the time can possibly slow performance, too.

When the computer is 'off', it is less likely to suffer damage from power spikes, it is less susceptable to the intrusions of various kinds (viruses, hackers) and the material can last even longer.

Exclusions from this general statement include enterprise systems (example: servers of data) that are built to be run 24/7 in a controlled environment.

You can certainly leave on the computer - in so many things that you should always restart from time to time to allow updates, drivers and programs to install.

Leaving the computer 'on' is a personal choice.

  • Should I buy a new iMac?

I currently have an iMac that I bought in February ' 08. It has 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. I'm on OS 10.6.8.  I upgraded the memory a few years ago.  Things seem to become a little slow on this subject. We may need the latest version of numbers that supposedly requires OS X 10.10.4.  Should I buy a new iMac, or are there things I can do to improve and accelerate and hold remote buying a year or two?  If I buy an iMac, should I buy a new airport because my current one is almost as old as the Mac?

    Thank you

The airport should be fine, unless you have the intention to improve your Internet connection at Gigabit speeds... WiFi has not changed that much.

It's probably a good idea to consider a new Mac in the near future, however. This one is about the end of his life.

  • Should I partition my new SSD once I install it?

End of 2011 MBP 17 inch

A new SSD Crucial. I have heard some say that you should partition the new drive before you reinstall a new copy of Mac OS x. Is this true?

Yes. True for all new hard drives or readers drawn from non-Apple computers. Here's what you can do:

Net Clean Install of El Capitan

    1. Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime, press Command + Option + R until a globe appears.
    2. The Utility Menu appears in 5 to 20 minutes. Be patient.
    3. Select disk utility, then click on the continue button.
    4. When loading disk utility, select the drive (generally, the entry Out-bumpy) in the list aside.
    5. Click on the Erase tab in the main window of disk utility. A panel will fall.
    6. Set the GUID partition scheme.
    7. Define the type of Format Mac OS extended (journaled).
    8. Click on the apply button, then click the fact when it is active.
    9. Quit disk utility and re-enter the Utility Menu.
    10. Select reinstall OS X and click on the continue button.
  • When I click on a url, it should open in a new tab; why it opens in the same tab?

I have my preferences of Mozilla implemented so that whenever I click on a url, it should open in a new tab, but every once in a while, Mozilla goes on the fritz, and open the new url IN THE SAME TAB! I checked my preferences, they are always well positioned. I checked the tools: Options: general: tabs: open the new window in the tab instead. and when I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately. If it is always well positioned.

    What Miss me?

That preference refers to links that are coded to launch in a new window: start them in a new tab instead of a new window.

Unfortunately, there is no adjustment for the links that are coded to launch in the same tab to start them in a new tab instead of in the same tab. You would need an add-on for that.

Normally, I would you recommend checking out Tab Mix Plus as the 'Swiss Army knife' tab features, but lately, it has a small bug so it has not been last updated in recent days, could you hold off on using it.

I use my MacBook Air as a desktop computer. Should I leave the charger plugged all the time or should I drain the battery and then recharge? What is the best for the battery?

Keep the computer plugged in whenever possible.

If you keep the computer always connected, make sure that at least twice a month

Run it on battery until battery charge level falls to about 40-50%.

Please don't completely discharge the battery. Discharge the battery completely will reduce wear and tear on the battery.

"The question is often asked:" should I disconnect my laptop from the mains when not in service? Under normal circumstances it should not be necessary because as soon as the lithium-ion battery is full, a properly functioning charger will stop the load and load the pad will only engage when the battery voltage drops to a low level. Most of the users do not remove AC power, and this practice is safe. »

  • Re: upgrade Portege R100 WLAN to the wap-> new mini pci oder pcmia card?

    Hello!

My old but beloved R100 is not able to connect to my router wlan due to the fact,
that the build-in-card pci doesn't support wap. So I have to update my laptop
either with a new mini pc card oder one card pcmia. What solution is the best?

    Best regards
    Rita

Well, the PCMCIA card is always removable and it is easy to insert.
But I'm not sure about the range of the WiFi signal...

MinPCI wireless network card is hidden somewhere in the notebook and you'd have to remove some parts to get access to the old minPCI WLan card.

But I still prefer the minPCI wireless network card because the minPCI wireless network card can be connected to the WLan antenna and it could be better...

You can put 2 x 4 GB DIMMS in the empty slots, this will give you a total of 12 GB. iMacs are very sensitive to the RAM, it is best to buy RAM from reliable sources like Crucial (direct purchase) or OWC OWC RAM

  • 15 - e028us: should I buy a new battery?

Long story short, the port of loading to my laptop was fried for about 3 months now. I bought a replacement part and will try to fix it myself (if all goes well, it will not explode lol)... anyway, the battery was at 1% last I remember. I read online that store the battery is bad. Something will happen if I used this battery? Should I buy a new one? It's a generic brand... I can't afford to buy a HP battery (charge tuition and whatnot) currently

    Thanks in advance

I bought it here and its about a year:

    http://www.Amazon.com/GP/product/B00ROHBYZW?PSC=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

Don't just assume a problem until it arises. Ranger 3 months at discounted rate is not likely to cause a problem, especially if it's a fairly new battery (low cycle count).
