Should I worry vCenter upgrade from 5.5 to 5.5 U1?

Hello

I used Crossover patch all my hosts 5.5 to 5.5U1 and updated tools on all virtual machines.  I've also updated their my vCenter.  Can I download the 5.5U1 Installer and update my vCenter or is it OK to leave it as what?

Hello

I would say that to read the release notes: vCenter Server 5.5 Update 1 Release Notes

If you need anything be it new, go ahead. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother because your vCenter 5.5 is also supported to manage the hosts of U1 5.5.

  • vCenter upgrade from 5.0 to 5.5 for the new machine, SRM and dvswitch

Anyone know if it is possible to do a upgrade to vCenter from a machine under windows server 2008 on a new computer server 2012? The database is located on an external computer. All I can see in the upgrade doc is that there is a tool for migrating data with earlier versions, but not when moving to 5.5.

Also - what implications are there if there's a dvswitch in the site?

    Thank you very much

    Hello

I guess you run ESXi and vCenter 5.1?

If it were me, I'd do the following:

-Install a new instance of vCenter on a new Server R2 2012

-Turn off the old server vCenter on 2008.

-Save the remote SQL database vCenter.

-Install a new instance of the Web, the inventory Service and SSO client. I remind vCenter to use the SQL remote database existing and chose to 'upgrade' when installing vCenter.

Then you'd be in vCenter server 2012 R2 with a new facility and using your old database that will get upgraded. You will always retain so your dvSwitch information. I'm not sure of SRM, you probably need to reconfigure it to use the new vCenter Server (unless you use IP records or that you can easily return?).

There are a few things to think about when you really do. Can you afford any downtime on vCenter? What of SRM and your RPO/RTO? The complexity is your configuration of SSO? Use you things like tags in web client (they would get lost in the reconstruction of the inventory service)? What confidence you are on the side of things RS? It is possible to save these configurations, but I'm not sure restore them on 5.5.

The main thing to consider is the database really. Worst case, you can restore it and turn back on your old vCenter 2008.

Happy to be told I'm wrong or answer your questions. If in doubt, contact VMware technical support and ask for help.

    Kind regards

    I have a HP Pavilion DV7 with 7690 m XT graphics card.

Is this smart upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10?

Does anyone have any experience with the upgrade to windows 10? (both good or bad)

    1. the older system with Win7 should not go Win10 that HP provides no support any drivers for it unless it was made in 2013.

    2. your specific HP PS comment is false with no facts to backup. We should refrain from making these comments - does nothing to help other users.

I have Vista 32 bit Home Premium. It does not support Windows Mail.Which is the best operating system to upgrade from Vista? Should I buy Windows 7, 8 or 8.1? I do not have a touch screen system, my system is five years old.

    Original title: upgrade

    Hello WilliamPopat,

If you want to buy an another operating system, you would do better to buy the latest version, i.e., Windows 8.1 it doesn't matter that you don't have a touch screen like Windows 8.1 will work just as well on a desktop PC / laptop normal.

However, before rushing and buying a copy of Windows 8.1, I suggest that you look at this link http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/11885-windows-8-upgrade-assistant-download-run.html the link above shows Windows 8 Upgrade Wizard you can download (free) and allows you to check that your PC is compatible with the latest version of Windows.

According to me, one of my office machines is around 5 or 6 years and Windows 8/8.1 works fine on it.  However, it is best to check your own machine with the wizard upgrade just in case.

      • Yes, vCenter upgrade will not affect ESXi or VM
    • Should I try to power VMs off as much as I can?
      • Not required
    • I need to do anything on the side SQL?

  • Lack of Configuration section in VAMI, vCenter active watch is not Accessible after upgrade from 5.5 to 5.8

Hi all!  I'm having a bit of a problem that I can't find a solution for anywhere.

I have a lab with two boxes of vcsa under 5.5 U2d, and wanted to move to 5.8 SRM.  I started the VRA 5.5.1 (I do not remember, real version number which was with MRS 5.5.1), mount the ISO 5.8 on both sides, restarted both, took the update of the CD (following the official update steps), but after the restart, the two vCenters show "enabled (not available)" and still list it as 5.5.1.

I have validated the RV service is running.  I have been following this thread, regenerated certificates for the TWO vCenters & TWO VRAs: vsphere upgrade from 5.5 to 5.8 Server replication enabled (not accessible) has yet no joy.

I checked the CROWD and the IP address is correct.  I tried to check /opt/vmware/hms/conf/extension.xml for the thumbprint and the file does not exist on each box, the only thing it is extension - template.xml.

On the one hand, I have reset the vCenter database (/ usr/sbin/vpxd - d of VMware KB: reset the vCenter Server repository embedded for vCenter Server Appliance 5.x ), deployed a new VRA 5.8, and he had to register very well.  It's then it dawned on me what missed me: almost all the Startup Configuration where you specify the vCenter (see attachment)

For grins, I recorded the VRA 5.8 of the 'old' vcsa work and tried to save it to the 'new' vcsa, which he could not with a lot of what looked like errors, assuming that because of 'new' vcsa already having a recorded SOAP VRA.  I re-recorded it back to the 'old' vcsa and is happy.  Installed SRM 5.8 (uninstalled 5.5 because I started with a clean database in the vcsa) and all is well on the side of the 'old '.

I'm trying not to go this route on the 'new' side, as I a VDS, vSAN and twice as many hosts, so I won't recreate the vDC, cluster, add guests, etc.  I copied to /opt/vmware/hms/conf/extension-template.xml /opt/vmware/hms/conf/extension.xml and restarted.  Footprint arises, but still no configuration tips.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for your reply. You said that the VRA is on a cluster, East of thatcluster HA-enabled? Because where HA must restart the VRA on another host, it does so through the ESX host and this could have emptied the OVF environment. And to even you'll always a working configuration until you start the upgrade or you try to perform any operation through VAMI configuration page. To be on the safe side, I think before upgrade, you can power off and then turn the unit on (simple restart is not enough) to make sure that the EPS of the FVO is recreated.

  • vCenter Storage Monitoring Service Service initialization failed after the upgrade from 5.1 to 5.5

I recently upgraded from vCenter 5.1 to 5.5. After the upgrade, I started getting health warnings for the VMware vCenter monitoring of Storage Service that say "failed to initialize the Service." I restarted the vCenter server and restart services several times and who has not deleted the question. When I look in the SMS. LOG file there is no activity in it since I did the upgrade (a week or more there). All prior activity in the SMS. JOURNAL seems to be well upward until the upgrade took place though. I found at least half a dozen KB articles that describe the various reasons why this error may occur, but they all relate to older versions of vCenter. Just to be complete, although I saw the symptoms in the articles and none of them really seem to be the same as what I see. My hypothesis is that perhaps the SMS did not get properly re-installed upgrading because I don't see any SMS subdirectory in the directory \Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\tomcat\webapps but I do not know if this directory must exist on a 5.5 installation.

If you would be grateful if anyone has any advice for troubleshooting for this type of error.

    Thank you

    Mike

Change the credentials of the service account for VMware vSphere Profile-Driven Storage Service to those used to start the VMware vCenter Server service and the service of VMware VirtualCenter Management Webservices. By default, the account used Local System.

Restart the service, the change was made, and then check.

  • The upgrade from vCenter for 64-bit

I'm about to upgrade from version 4 to version 4.1 vcenter server and I have a few quick questions. I am a little concerned about the part of the database from the upgrade.  We currently have the database on a server remote windows 2003 and I was curious what, if anything, I have to do to the database if I use the DataMigration tool?  I have a new 64 bit server ready to go, but I'm a little curious what needs to be done to the database and it is ok to point the new 64-bit to 32-bit SQL server vCenter?  any help is appreciated.  Thanks for a great site!

  • Standard/Media vCenter upgrade download

    Hello all,.

I am planning my Virtual Center 2.5 update to 4.0.  I have 1 server, 2 servers in the next few weeks.

    Server 1 existing Win 2003 Server (32-bit)

NEW server to Server 2 Win 2008 (64-bit)

I know I can't install 4.1 on the 32-bit server, and it will pass in the coming months so I can move to 4.1 but the hardware does not support at this time.  First of all, where can I find the installer of vCenter Standard 4.0.1?  I saw the 4.1 Setup program available.  Secondly, will it work to have these 2 servers with different operating systems in 4.0.1-bound mode?

Then when I do the upgrade from 2.5 to 4.0 on Windows 2003 Server I'll use a basis existing, hosted on SQL 2000.  I would like to do the upgrade in place, and then migrate the database to a different server running SQL 2005.  Is this the way to go, or should I move the database to SQL 2005 first, then upgrade?  Is there a documentation about the displacement of the database?

    Thanks for your help,

  • Question on Vsphere upgrade from ESX3.5 update 3

We currently have our VCServer and race, but I'll be upgrading for Vsphere 4.0 Update 1. To do this, I need to build a new server, because our current server is not compatible with the hardware requirements. First of all, is there an easy way to migrate the settings from one server to another? Also the networks I will build as my local lan and my dmz, network adapter settings, etc... be there when I take my guests on the new Vsphere server. Are the specific server VC parameters or appearing in ESX boxes themselves?

    jkoelker wrote:

So since I only change my virtual Center Server and without changing the physical material of boxes ESX but upgrading from 4.0 I still need to worry recreate all my settings. Depending on your position, the parameters are all specific to the ESX boxes and not the server Vcenter himself? I read that correctly? The only thing that happens is my Vcenter server. I'll put as the utility to update on what will update my esx boxes and Vsphere.

If you do an upgrade to ESX4, so yes all the settings will be retained.

I was under the impression that you have been rebuild the ESX host, that would be my choice of the upgrade.

  • I disabled csturstil because the kernel task ate my treatment. Should I worry about my lack of SIP?

All sudden yesterday my computer has significantly slowed down. After checking the activity monitor, it appeared that the core tasks consumed a huge amount of processing power. A few hours of research and I was able to stop the task of kernel by disabling the csturstil. My computer is running fast, once again, but after some research more than I am worried that I have disabled the SIP and therefore my self more vulnerable to malware.

Two things to note. From my research, I gathered that these will be useful. Any idea would be appreciated, thanks.

  • What should I do before upgrading 10.6.8 Snow Leopard?

As much as I like the snow leopard, it really is time to move my iMac 2010 on a more modern operating system.  I am very nervous, especially since Apple is not a disc available for purchase to upgrade to a disc.

Apart from backing up (I have Time Machine on a separate drive), is there anything else I should do before upgrading to El Capitan? Should I disconnect the Machine from the first time?

I know I'll lose the ability to use some older programs, but I can live with that.

I fixed the permissions a couple of weeks - at this point, it's just the things that appear like fixing all the time (which IIRC are things that are supposed to be that way, but see the place as a 'bad').

    Thank you.

While Time Machine is a form of backup, I strongly suggest that you make a full bootable backup on an external drive and test by starting from it before upgrade you.

In addition, as a suggestion for the future, by releasing a new OS, you can download the installer, leave when it starts to run and put aside, just in case. When El Capitan was released, Yosemite became unavailable unless you had already "bought". The same was the Mavericks and earlier versions of OS X when disks for the delivery of OS X are out of style.

  • Upgrade from my old PC to USB 2.0?

I want to transfer my music files and an image of an old PC running Microsoft XP Home on requiring external hard drive USB 2.0 or 3.0.  How to change my old PC USB 2.0 or 3.0?  That require an upgrade of the hardware, or is it as simple as download the right file?  Thank you!

If you can provide a little more information (make and model of PC, card mother brand/model, etc.), could be considered a better answer.

I guess right here, but are you sure that your old PC is not already have USB2.0? Have you tried to connect the external drive to it to see if it will or will not copy to and from it? I would try first, as well as the upgrade of the driver for her files. Those who would be available from the PC or the web site of the manufacturer of the motherboard.

If indeed it doesn't have USB 2.0 capabilities, then Yes, it should be a hardware upgrade. You can get the expansion card that will give you this ability if necessary. They are available from most places like Newegg, Tiger Direct, etc.
