  Hello Mominct! I'm glad that the wired connection works already. This means that the router has been able to get an IP from the modem already. Simply configure the settings wireless for the laptop to work.

  Here's what to do:

  1. open http://192.168.2.1 the router page and use admin for the password.

  2. go in the tab set the Configuration Manual wireless wireless. Change the SSID of "linksys" to any name you want, allow the broadcast of the SSID, then click on save settings.

  3. go to the wireless security sub tab, set the Security Mode WPA-Personal, enter a password (it must be at least 8 characters), then click on save settings. It will then be your password wireless. If you want to leave the unsecured network, simply left off wireless security.

  That's all. Hoping for the best!

  I have Windows Vista, IE 8 and labtop HP Pavilion. I had just recently Cricket Wireless Broadband, with a USB wireless modem. I now have the Charter/Comcast broadband through my cable. The modem is connected to my PC via the Ethernet port. On the connection icon on the toolbar on the right down, it shows that I am connected. The "Local Area Connection Status" in the network and sharing Center seems to be connected, since bytes are sent and received.

  However, when I'm on IE8, it acts as if there is no connection. Not being able to view the web page. Also, now when I go to a local WiFi hotspot, I can't connect to a network, just as I always, and it shows that there is a link, however, it won't let me access the internet. It used to work, before everything first, I connected the cable modem.

  Any ideas? Thank you!!

  If the Cricket connection works correctly but your cable connection is not, which suggests the computer is set up correctly and the problem is with the cable connection. All other systems are able to connect through the connection of the Charter? If this isn't the case, please contact Charter and see if they are able to determine the issue on their end or help you reconfigure the modem.

  If you mean that you have to keep your Mac connected to a Time Capsule via Ethernet for future backups, then the answer is no. Time Machine and time Capsule are designed to work over wireless for your Mac would just need to be connected to the wireless network provided by the time Capsule.

  Just updated the new Firefox 34.0.5. My Comcast email has a number of problems with its appearance, which could not be resolved with the chat tech support agent, as clear cache and cookies.   My experience with Comcast webmail is that nothing less than ~ 1030px horizontal width causes the horizontal scroll bar.

  Only on firefox! I use the most. My homepage of Comcast of Mokena, Illinois (Chicago) appears as Philadelphia for the last 2 months. I have change the postcode and Mokena perhaps 1/2 day to a day. Then I'm back to Philadelphia. About 3 weeks, I had my normal Mokena page for about a week. Now I'm back to relive in Philly. Chicago is not Philly. Have you ever heard of this problem?   I didn't know that occur with Comcast for a few years now, but I used to have it occur fairly regularly in the course of close to 2 years. Model address dynamic IP from Comcast connected me thru Philly or Alexandria, WILL sometimes instead of the connection point of Elmhurst, Illinois local which was normally used. It happened when Comcast was doing maintenance and updates to level on the old systems AT & T had acquired it a few years previously in the Chicago area. There were nights where my IP address was changed as often as every 10 minutes - I would go to another website and I would like to see the info about the stuff in Philly or Alexandria, WILL and the other would be local stuff in the northern suburb of Chicago where I'm located. I installed a small utility program that would pop-up a small windows with the new IP address when it has been modified, to keep track of how many times it happened. I don't remember the name of this program, but he kept a daily diary of text of each IP address change.

  Another thing to keep in mind is that the "lease" for an IP address will expire every 72 hours (3 days) and must be renewed automatically from Comcast DHCP servers. If you use Comcast internet service more than 3 days, it is possible that your old IP address was reallocated to another person and you would get a different one. But it should be the Bank of available local IP addresses, not the one of to halfway across the country.

  Hello community!  I'm going to move to Brooklyn, New York in a few days and going to order some cable internet.  I was wondering if there is anything I need to know about hanging TC with the cable modem.  I have 2 TB Time Capsule (A1409, which is the 2011 model?). Can I use time Capsule as the router or use their free router "smart."  One option is better than the other.  I already bought the TC hoping backup stuff, but as I shared wifi, I never actually put to use.  He then refurbished, but never used.  Cable people would set up the router of TC, or they would be put in place, and I unplug their work and implement the TC then?

  Hi, I noticed recently that my computer (Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005) is unable to sleep automatically when it is connected to the internet with a cable modem. Change the settings for my current power mode and try a different feeding regime (diagrams of Windows XP default power and power management, I created) only solves the problem for 2 days at most. I also tried to change the settings for the other power plans mentioned, and yet once again, the problem was only set for two days at the most. I also tried turning off my computer, restarting my computer, recording Powercfg /Restore Default policies in Run, saving sfc/scannow in Run, and again, I got the same result. Reset and power cycling the modem cable is not helped either. To help you better understand the problem, for example, if I had the date set for the screensaver set to 1 minute, the time for the monitor to turn off set to 2 minutes and time for your computer set to 3 minutes, the screen saver activate after 1 minute, the monitor turns off after 2 minutes, but the computer would not sleep mode after 3 minutes , even after an hour or more. I tried to check the Task Manager, and I have not noticed any process that would be interrupting the day before. However, I noticed that when I turned on the monitor by moving the mouse, even when the computer was unable to sleep and unplugged the ethernet cable from the cable modem and waited, the computer has entered standby as it should have.  I tried to find a solution for more than a week, contributions for this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read my post. (Update: it seems that the problem is something else then my cable modem.)

  We used it to transfer all our family VHS tapes to DVD.
