Size of the LARGE file in InDesign CS5

Help! Date deadline fast approaching and InDesign now down for analysis. It's no doubt InDesign... it is open as I type this and I can see the letters appear here as I type. In InDesign, it's like back in the dark ages... type far in advance and wait for the screen to catch up, and it is not yet completely. I resorted to type in Notepad and paste in to try to speed things up a bit.

I am a relatively new InDesign user, so apologies if there's a simple answer...

My file was getting big in terms of number of pages, and because of the issue of anchored frames (another post), I have split it into several files and put it in a book. At least this way you hit on the effect of having something not anchored was manageable.

Today yesterday and now the program got progressively slower. With the help of 70% and more memory (4 GB of it!)

Something feels very bad for me...

The first file in the book is 4 pages long. It consists of a title page, a table of contents generated automatically, a whole page with a border frame and a whole page borderless frame. Apart from the title page, it's ALL text. On the title page and the master page, I (bound, I think - they appear in the links pane) two images. On the cover page is only 115KB anyway, and that on the master page, in the footer, is 82KO.

This file is 13 776 KB in size. What is going on? The BOOK in its entirety before was a little less than 12 Mo, and although I added a bit more content, nothing new is entered in these four pages. The total for the whole of the book now (NOT the IMAGES INCLUDING) is a little more than 35 MB.

I had installed a trial of CS 5.5 to see if that was going to be all right for a project of ePub, I'm about to start, but until recently that I had not noticed any problems with it. I just uninstalled and am about to do a repair of InDesign CS5 to see if that helps.

For the technical interested:

PC Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.

Intel i5 CPU (3.84 GHz)

Two cards running three monitors (been like this since you have the PC in December).

I'm going to struggle to meet the limit at this rate and start to panic :-(

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions

First thing to do is open each file in the book, then save UNDER the name twice, once with a new name if you have a backup copy and a second time with the original name to replace the current file. Save as removes old change unnecessary data and reduce the size of the file. Also remove unused styles and nuances.

Do you have references or hyperlinks between files? If you do so, all files must be opened or ID will open and close them permanently in the background that will slow you down to a crawl. Other things that can speed up performance are stop live preflight, turning off page thumbnails and reduce the display performance setting.

  • Dealing with the size of the large file CS5/Aperture 3

Is it possible to save a PS image changed completely without using 150 MB of storage? I opened a NAVE MB 18 of A3 to PS. converted to B & w using a variety of settings in CS5. Save as a PSD not flattened, gave a 150 MB file size. A flattened jpeg file is 18 MB. 150 MB images will quickly devour disk space. The warning in jpeg triangle suggests that not all layers are saved. Thank you.

in order to save in layers, I'll have to deal with 150 MB of files.

PSD files use compression (I forgot what the name), a file tif layered with one of the cuts without loss can be smaller but take longer to save and open.

If I want to include all the layers in a jpeg file, flatten it before the record?

If a file contains layers and you save a jpg file off it will automatically be a flattened image copy.

  • I can't place the Photoshop pdf files in InDesign CS5

I can't put Photoshop pdf files in InDesign CS5 after update to LION. I get the error message "unable to open the PDF file. I tried to register him as Acrobrat and then place, get the same message. I opened the file in Photoshop to re-register and get an error message. I can't change our workflow for me because I'm the only one with this problem. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Problem fixed! After a very long day. The sad thing is I should have tired deleting the prefs first. After the reinstallation of the Lion, she always had the same problem. I have therefore connected under a new user and has not had the problem. I went back to my user and delete the preferences and now where it is good to go. Note for more later before reinstalling anything try a new user first and go from there...

  • How better to import the QuarkXpress 8.0 files in InDesign CS5

    People,

Searched the forum, but I only find info on old versions of Quark and InDesign.

I have a ton of user final documents in QuarkXpress 8.0 I need to import in InDesign CS5.  (Here is the manuals installation and operation for data modems and telephony with many illustrations and diagrams in them).  I just downloaded the trial version of InDesign CS5 and could use some help.

The procedure of import (for the old software) seemed to be quite heavy.  I hope that InDesign CS5 is more capable and efficient import of QuarkXpress files.  I also read on of Markzware Q2ID.  This product does work with InDesign CS5, or is it still necessary with InDesign CS5?

All advice will be appreciated.  You need to start soon!

    Thanks for your help!

Yes it works, Yes, it is necessary, don't... Is there any alternative reasonable without a Q8, 5, 6 and 7.

    FWIW, he's worth every dinner.

  • How to reduce the size of the PDF file on scanned on my PMX922 docs

I deal with a lot of documents, and I find that when I scan the docs on my MX922 the size of the PDF file is MUCH larger that the size of the original PDF file. That's what I see (on a document page 2):

    (Received) original size: 11 k

Default scan (Quick Menu): 1061 k

With compression high (Quick Menu): 116 k

The Panel of the printer (res 150): 209 k

    Windows scanning app (150 res): 1495 k

Scanning from the Quick Menu with high Compression seems to be the best, but it still somewhat adds to the file size. It's a big problem so I dal with many GREAT docs. Several times the size of the file increase prevents me from being able to send files. Is there anything else I can do? Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi 1wwjdbro,

We can set the PDF to HIGH compression option in the utility of digitization of IJ and also select the image digitized transfer compression to reduce the file size of the PDF file. To do this, please follow these steps:

    1. open the utility of scanning IJ.

    2. in the Scan from Canon IJ utility window that opens, click SETTINGS... at the bottom right of the window. The settings dialog box is displayed.

    3. click on the SCAN of DOCUMENT option in the left pane of the window.

4 in the right pane window, look for the box to COMPRESS SCANNED IMAGES to be TRANSFERRED in the Scan Options section and check it.

    5. then, in the SAVE the SETTINGS section, find the FORMAT of DATA field and ensure that PDF or PDF (multi-page) is selected, and then click the SETTINGS button to the right of the field.

    6. in the window that opens, find the COMPRESSION PDF section, then select TOP from the drop-down list. Click OK to close the window. You will be taken back to the SETTINGS window.

    7. once all settings have been selected in the SETUP window, click the OK button at the bottom of the window to save the changes. The IJ Scan Utility main screen is displayed.

    8. click the DOCUMENT button. Housing starts scanning. Click CANCEL to cancel the scan if necessary. The scanned images are saved to the location of the selected folder previously specified in the SETTINGS... window.

    I hope this helps!

  • How can I change the paper size of the pdf file?

I use Adobe Acrobat Reader X, but the paper size of the PDF file is larger than the 81/2 "x 11". I need to change the page size of the PDF file.

    Hi matthewc70309046,

There is no option to change the Page size of a PDF document.

Try to print to the Adobe PDF format, in the dialog box print, select Page layout-> size desired by you.

  • Size of the target file too big?

    Hello

We have an interface that takes a Source file-> transformations in the transit area-> and provides a target file output.

The problem is that the target file is too much than it is supposed to be.

We have 'truncate' Option is enabled, so its no duplicates...

We believe that it is the physical and logical target defined lengths for files.

We believe that the logical length is far too much cause substantial 'spaces' between the columns of data, thereby increasing the size of the file.

We originally the logical length for data columns 12 and got the following error message:

Overflow error arithmetic digital conversion to digital data type.

When we increased the logical length between 12 and 20 interface run fine without errors. But now the size of the target file is simply too large 1:5

Suggestions to prevent these additional places in the columns target?

    Enjoy your entries!

    Thank you

    Hello

usually, you need to know the length of your data. If you want to be sure you could put source really big file as logical definition, than to use a cast in your box waiting (ex number (12.3)) then your target

  • How to reduce the size of the jpg file, not the size of pixel?

I prepare images for the web and I really have 2 questions: one on gifs and the other on the jpg files.
My standard procedure is to reduce the image to the desired at 600 dpi pixel dimensions
It gives me a little crisp image. can I use this what if the file size is quite low (I try for less than 600 KB) or convert to gif with the save for Web and devices.

Here are my 2 questions (I'll count this solved with each answer)

    (1) when I convert a gif that I have 4 boxes: one with the original size, the other 3 with options but, often, the options are too low resolution for me how can I change my 3 options starting with a higher res gif?

    (2) if I try to reduce the size of the jpg in the image size box I put the lower resolution (400, 300), which reduces the pixel dimensions and the size of the file, but I don't want to change the pixel dimensions. If I reset the dimensions in pixels to the size I want, even if it is a lower resolution that the file size does not change. How to reduce the size of the jpg file using only the resolution, the pixel dimensions not?  PS I tried to play with the checking and unchecking the 3 small boxes (scale of styles, constrain the proportions and re - sample) but nothing has worked.

GIF is not a type of large file, especially if you want a sharp image. What are the dimensions of the pixel?

For the web, it is immaterial that the dpi is, only the last pixel dimensions, so once you have that you want to use 'save for Web and devices' and you can reduce quality - 100% being the maximum and 0% being the lowest. I wouldn't save anything less than 55%. For an image of 600 KB, the size must be large enough.

  • Cannot open files in InDesign CS5 with CS5.5

I created a file in InDesign CS5.5 and impossible to open the file in InDesign CS5. I got a lot of errors indicating I needed to update my plugins. Don't know what that means. Any help would be appreciated.

You must export the CS5.5 files as files .idml to be able to open them in CS5. You may lose a few options of specific provision CS5.5 and text can flow back.

  • Newbie question - the size of the control file

    Hi, people,.
I am just trying to Captivate 2 and have already experienced the creation of projects with Flash Builder DemoShield and Qarbon viewlet.

I created a demo of the short software - 16 slides, running 90 seconds. The slide background images are screenshots of a web application, captured at 1024 X 744 pixels and 16 colors. Each of them appears in the library under a bitmap of about 3 MB.

I have the preferences of project, the advanced project compression and file options compress the SWF compiled under tension. The SWF file comes out still at 764 KB, what seems terribly important given the short duration.

My question is, what are the best practices to keep the size of the small file in a project of this type? You realize at shallow depth (256?) or try to capture small pieces of color screen, or is there another trick, I don't know?

    Thanks for the tips.

    -Corbin

The simplest and the most overlooked are changing the quality of background image from 'High' to 'Standard' - this is actually all that you mentioned, reducing the color depth. This can be done by selecting the slides using the menu "slide > video quality" for change. The highest quality is not always the default, but check on your slides to see. If the project is a Point to be able to convert, for example, the 'High' quality setting is the default...

If you notice the "purge" of background colors, you may need to increase the depth of color (constant slide "QualitΘ vidΘo") on the slide hit, to cure the problem.

About your reference to the 'best practice', I recommend a DevCenter article written by Dave Mozealous who at the time was a member of the staff team of Macromedia Captivate. The link is here .

Hope this help you get sorted!

    A few final thoughts:
First, since you seem to be a Flashie, keep in mind that images in Captivate are stored under the direction and displayed as bitmaps, which are much larger files then the vector graphics - have you worked with Flash.

Second, any image of 1024 X 744's going to be real - real - big; and you who set the size for each background in your Captivate project. Sometimes which cannot be avoided, but often people create great Captivate projects simply because they have not used the product long enough to be aware of what are the problems that can cause. So if you work with a smaller pixel size for your projects, by all means, do it.

I downloaded the file and run the Setup file. Unfortunately, it says "the size of the ROM file is incorrect.

This means I m doing wrong? or I have the latest BIOS in my system.

    Please advice.

    Thank you.

    Hello

First of all I don't do everything what said Tempro!

Secondly, this message was posted here in the forum several times and if you are looking for the size of the ROM file is incorrect, you would find that:

    and this, for example:

The problem is that you have unzipped the Cabinet correctly!

In any case, I think that it s not useless to put anything, if the laptop runs without problem!
