Skype, IE, WMP, etc. are have no icons etc, but just a window

Since Windows 7 update to update security and Windows Media Player in April about /, good number of windows open may not be any icons, they don't display correctly, and it appears as just text.

Image to show what I mean:
I can open up chrome and displayed correctly, even with steam and my games. Most of the windows applications just give the appearance are therefore unusable. Even some recently installed software does the same thing, but none where only suggests a fix.
I tried the fix of Mr for translucent windows, etc., but that has not worked.
What should do?

Hey Cameron,

1. have you run Microsoft Fixit to solve the problem?

2. what security update caused the problem?

3 is the issue limited to the desktop icons?

I suggest you get this security update that caused the problem. You can read the following article to check the latest updates installed:

See the Windows updates are installed

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/see-which-Windows-updates-are-installed

You can also remove the icon cache and see if that does the trick. To do this, follow the steps in the article mentioned:

  • I have a black screen, but can use windows on the bottom bar.

I have a HP desktop computer and you are using Windows Vista Home Premium.  The Office has been black for about a month now.  Again, I have the windows at the bottom bar and am able to navigate in all my programs through the start icon.  The computer seems to work very well - and analyses have not found something unusual.  That's happened?  How can I recover my office?  I can't start my computer Safe Mode (by pressing f8) and I find not "Accessories" in my list of programs, but I could find 'system restore', so I chose a point of restoration about 4 weeks ago, but he has failed.  Can you help me!
    Thank you!

I thought that the files have completely disappeared.  shortcuts were definitely missing.  When I went to "my documents" on the start menu, I could not find personal files at all.  It is computer of my mother and my brother came the next day and was able to fix it.  He said that he has restored the computer using "System Restore" and used a date prior to that I took.  He was able to restore the computer and found all the files.  I guess they were just hidden.

So I guess that the problem has been resolved!  Thank you for your answer!

  • I have all the sounds, BUT those of Windows Media Player 7.

I have all the system sounds, sounds of a PowerPoint presentation, etc.. No sound of anything that uses Win 7 Media Player.  Video is very good and the bar at the bottom, which indicates that a piece of music from a CD plays forward as if he were playing, but I don't hear anything.  Ran a Uniblue registry cleaner a week ago and I don't think that the WM Player souand works since.  Restored the registry to its 'own pre' State, still no sound in WMP. just from the video.  Also installed Win 7 SP1 which asked me to set up the media player.  He said yes, he had run, duly filled, no sound!  Any suggestions?

You hear no sound when you play a MP3 file in Windows Media Player?

Please make sure that the sound is not muted in WMP, and that the volume is high enough.

  • Windows Media Player 12 (WMP 12) are not saving the data in the library

Hi all, been having a few problems with WMP 12, because I reinstalled Win7 enterprise following an upgrade of the processor (from AMD to Intel, had to reinstall).  Since that I had two problems, both probably originate in the same root.  Everytime I open WMP I see "There is no data in your library", until it scans the hard drive for files.  It's true that if I let this scan for 30 minutes, then turn off and on.  He simply has no information, period.  Secondly, when it filled with information, it mentions two copies of each song.

My personal theory is that it could be caused by an old cache of WMP log are stored somewhere on the PC.  Perhaps WINDOWS.old?  Please keep in mind it was a reinstall of W7 W7 E E again.  Theories, ideas or legal remedies will be appreciated.  The problem seems localized to WMP, my libraries (pictures, videos, etc.) and everything seems to be intact however.

I tried to change the location of the file, only to have WMP search folders for some and a few other things (disabling, allowing streaming media, for example) are stored within my installation of W7 HD and another HD in the same machine.

    Hi SRedX,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers community.

Try to manually add files to Windows media player and see if the problem still occurs.

    Method 1:

This problem may be due to database corruption.  You can delete the Windows Media Player database and check if the problem persists.

Steps to clear the database of windows media player:

    1. exit Windows Media Player.
    2. click on start, run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.
    3. Select all the files in the folder and then click on Delete on the file menu.

Note You don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    4. restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. exit Windows Media Player.
    2. If you are using Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft and then click OK.

If you are running Windows Vista, click Start, click Run, type % LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft and then click OK.

    3. Select the Media Player folder, and then click on Delete on the file menu.
    4. restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/925718
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/remove-items-from-the-Windows-Media-Player-library

If the method above have not solved your problem, try the method below.

    Method 2:

Try reinstalling windows media player by following the steps below.

    1. click on the Start button and select Control Panel
    2. click on programs, then select programs and features
    3. click on Turn Windows features on or off on the left, go to the section multimedia features and uncheck Windows Media Player, press OK to uninstall Windows Media Player.
4 restart the computer. Later, go back and put a check mark against Windows Media Player to install it once more.
5 restart the computer once more.

    Hope this information is useful.
Let me know if it worked.

When I'm accommodating the toolbar of the new option to arrange the icons on the toolbar toolbar change several tools come with the words "wrong tool" and have no icon associated with them. What are these missing tools 'bad '?

I see you have fixed this now, but I was about to tell you that you could have accommodated in the 'Bad' by its shortcut "I" tool.

To save a custom toolbar, get everything the way you want and click on the button space work, click new workspace

Type a name for the workspace, and check all three options.

If I have to use a single screen, I use a variant of the Essentials workspace with minor panels collapsed and dock for main panels.  I call this Essentials 2

It also seems to me that with all these options, it's stupid not to take full advantage of them, so I separate my most used instruments for their own group and double column toolbar to adjust the screen.  I tried to drop in the groups for the most used tool near the document image (right). I love it, but it take some time remembering the new positions.

  • Computer takes forever to load, the files have no icon

    Hello!

Since yesterday, I have this problem: when I open computer, the green bar at the top starts to load, there are magnifiers on computer, libraries and Favorites in the left pane and nothing appears in the main pane of Solution Explorer. If I manually navigate to any folder by typing the address, it takes me to this folder, but there is no icons for the files or folders. Although, they open as expected, may be renamed etc., but right click on explore crashes. The desktop icons, menu start and see the control panel correctly.

No recent program has been installed. Before this problem occurred I accessed a suspicious Web page (from a USB key), but...

I scanned with Malwarebytes, Spybot, ESET, ran ChkDsk, sfc/scannow.

They have all found nothing except the sfc found 2 corrupt files that could not be repaired.

Important the fact is that in Safe Mode, I have the same problem!

Can someone help me on this?

Correction, I had a virus, but it wasn't the problem.

I reinstalled windows and all programs, one by one and that the problem was back, but now I now why! The problem occurred after installing Acronis True Image 2013, because I have disabled its services to run automatically. It seems that Acronis is not like that... and he wants to force me unnecessary services running, most of the time. After you have enabled services, the problem disappeared. :) Good to know!

If you are referring to the registration of the preview, the arrows appear when you Replied (curved) or transferred (right arrow) by e-mail.

The circle, when rempli filled in blue, indicates you have not yet opened / read the email.

  • Some icons on the start menu are missing after a remote desktop session in Windows 7

I use Win7 Pro SP1 and whenever I come back to my office after finishing a session desktop connection to my computer remotely, I noticed several of the icons in the all programs from the Start Menu section changed to default page icons. If I try to open any programs that are pinned to the start itself, it will indicate that the program cannot be found. Notepad and Calculator in particular to keep more victims of this problem.

I also noticed that the audio controller is disabled until I restart.

I found a batch file that will rebuild the icon cache, but this very annoying to have to keep doing it because I have to remote into my computer almost every morning for the daily scrum meetings we hold in a conference room.

  • screen resolution of the remote desktop: fonts and icons of the remote desktop window are so small they can barely read.

    Remote Desktop screen resolution

I've recently upgraded to a Windows 7 laptop from a computer in Office XP.

On my old machine, I use a VPN clent and Remote Desktop connection to use my work computer (my company uses XP on their machines).  If I try to connect from my computer Windows 7, fonts and icons of the remote desktop window are so small they can barely read.  Change display options in the settings of remote desktop doesn't affect the size of the window, not the resolution.

It is a problem because I am stuck using my old system to work remotely.

    Any ideas?

All you have to do is to reduce the resolution of the screen that you use to connect to your Remote Desktop Session.  More the higher resolution and the characters will be on your screen, and when you connect to Remote Desktop.  In my case, I lowered the resolution of my screen to the House for the resolution of the screen in my office.  It works perfectly.  To reduce the resolution follow these steps:

    1. click on start

    2. click on Control Panel

    3. under appearance & personalization - click on adjust screen resolution.  You may get a message indicating that your resolution is not at the optimum, but don't worry you will still be able to see the letters on your screen.
