Slow performance Equium A60

Hello... I was hoping for some advice on my lap - top. Since I had the A60 I was extremely disappointed by its performance. Again, it may take up to 8 minutes to just get started. When applications are opened again, it can be painful waiting for him to run. Is this normal? I've updated the bios and drivers in the hope that it would make a difference but it didn't. I have 256 MB of memory installed... so I guess my real question is... The memory upgrade will make enough of a difference or it's not worth bothering with? Just another thing... it seems summer mentioned previously, but what thought toshiba to place the fan in a place like this? I read some people saying that you should not put on your knee... When I use it... I have to balance in a uncomfortable position so that the cpu is not overheating and restart. Why call it a Lap - top in my opinion if you can't put it on your lap. Is there a solution to this problem too? Thanks in advance...

8 min sounds long enough for XP start up my A60-181 only takes about 2 min. Much can count on what programs you have installed and set to autorun, including the stuff you ignore as spyware adware BHO (browser helper objects) can really hit the performance of Windows. I would recommend running some programs like Spy Bot S & D, Adaware and webroot.com Spysweeper scan. Also access the BIOS at the beginning with Esc then F1 tune of processor at the maximum power that could help speed up the boot process. Windows XP has really need 512 MB of RAM to work properly even if 256 MB should not be a problem, you can not run so much without your busy paging RAM hard disk. I'm surprised Toshiba provide not all laptops with 512 MB as standard considering the cheap means of RAM has become these days, but this is just my opinion.
Anyway, to answer your question about "portable computers" back in laptops old times did not use flat on the heat so them sitting on his knees was possible. However these days, probably you could fry an egg on them it's quite scary how hot they get. I'm also a little angry fans CPU design, that I can't sit my laptop on the carpet and let alone the bed I have on cardboard to keep the air flow going.

  • Satellite A60 (PSA60E): slow performance

    Hello
I have the laptop above. the performance of this laptop is terrible, when I start an application it takes up to 10 seconds before opening the windows of the app.
specs. family BIOS 1.90, win XP Edition version, 192 MB internal. It is a normal standard a60 with none of the exceptional items.
Someone at - it a trick to speed up performance.

    Hello

As you know there are several reasons why the laptop is running slowly.
Before any if multiple processes are running in the background for the operating system is running slowly. You should check the background processes in the Task Manager and try disabling no important processes.
Then it is possible that a virus will decrease the performance of your laptop.
In this case, you must update the antivirus application.
The antivirus application that runs on your laptop and monitor background processes may also be responsible for slow performance.

But the best way is to install fresh OS. The laptop runs always faster with the installation of claire. Alternatively, you can upgrade the memory to increase the performance of your laptop.

  • Equium A60: PC2700 and PC2100 compatibility

    Hello again...

Based on the MANUAL of USE Equium A60 I incorrectly ordered a SO-DIMM PC2100 200 PIN, I understand turns to the DDR266.
Based on your good advice, I realize, I should have ordered DDR333 PC2700-SO-DIMM 200 PIN.
In the store where the ram was purchased they said I could always install the ram but it works at the slowest speed of modules 2 memory.
    The questions are:

Is this true? can I have on my laptop a PC2700 256ram (factory installed) and a race of PC2100 (purchased separately) 512ram together with no ill effects or damage to the machine?

    and also

If it is true and a PC2700 and PC2100 modules can be on the same machine, will there be a significant decrease in performance?

Thanks for your help and a very big thank you for the kind responses to my other questions :)

    Kind regards

    Confused newbie

    Hello
Normally, you can run Ram PC2700 in collaboration with am Ram PC2100.

Faster memory will adapt its speed to the slower.

The PC2700 is downwards compatible way.

So, in this case, you can buy this memory without problem

  • Equium A60: ATI mobility issues

I have an Equium A60 (PSA67E) with Celeron 2.80 ghz, 192 RAM, windows XP, and a 7000IGP ATI MOBILITY RADEON I bought jan 2005.
I use the laptop and after 10 minutes a message appears and tells the driver has stopped working and I need a new. Which driver should I download for this stop happening? Ive looked to other people having problems with the infanite loop and its recommended location to download a bios updared will this help?

I sent ATI and they said I need to contact toshiba

It is also is so slow when I try and work on it, I've defragmented it but it works still slow. Would this becaure to have 192 RAM?

    Thank you for your help

    Hello

First of all, I would recommend trying the page of the Toshiba driver graphics card driver:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp
You choose unit and OS and download and install the driver.

In my opinion, your device must use min 256 MB memory.
But it is not only the problem of memory. Some software programs and background processes may decrease the performance of the laptop.

  • Equium A60-692: Question on the RAM size

I have an Equium a60-692, which indicates that she has a 256 MB DDR Ram. When I check the system, he says he has 197 MB of Ram. I am told that this is due to the pilot of the screen using the other 60 MB. Which seems big to me or is this normal? I also find that the machine is slow to start and open programs. Is it because of the limited amount of Ram (197 MB)? An increase in Ram would solve my problem?

    Hi Ron,

You available RAM is 256 MB, and that the BIOS reserves a small portion for the graphics card. The normal distribution is 64 MB for that you will 192Mo of left RAM for use by the operating system. 64 MB is quite normal for the use of graphics (and is small enough to some modern games). You may be able to reduce the amount (say, at 32 MB) in your BIOS (check allocation UMA).

Slow loading may indicate that your HARD drive is a grooming needs. I recommend running Disk Cleanup on your Start menu, followed by Disk Defragmenter also in the menu START. This will ensure that you schedule the files and folders are properly located and organized for use.

Increasing your RAM probably will not help your slow loading problem, although it will improve the performance of games and utilities of great resources by reducing the use of the swap file.

  • Equium A60-155 - memory upgrade

I currently have Toshiba Equium A60-155 with 192 MB of RAM standard, and thought of the upgrade or buy a new laptop and I'm looking for advice.

I use my computer for music production mainly as well as simple tasks such as browsing the internet and funny game (mainly supercomputers, data sets with less emphasis on graphics etc.)

Basically everything I want to know the weather bought 1 GB of RAM would be update worth it because at the present time, the performance is slow to say the least. It would make a lot of improvement to my laptop or I'd better save for a few months and buy a new computer laptop all together?

    Thanks guys :)

    Hi Claire,

Increase the RAM in your A60: his current 256 MB will certainly benefit even if I suspect that the improvement will be not exactly breathtaking.

I suggest using the monitor of the task (available in Task Manager, during the execution of some of your applications to see just what the memory usage you actually is.

You currently have 64 MB of your existing RAM allocated for use of graphics, and you may be able to reduce this to 32 MB or 16 MB even to give you an additional display options in RAM capacity advances.

The actual gain from adding additional RAM will come if you want to run multiple simultaneous applications.

    Kind regards

  • Equium A60 - failure of resume and press a key to continue

    Hello
I have an Equium A60 which is coming up with 'failed to resume and Press any key to continue' when I turn it on. This FAILED after the battery is and it stop. By pressing a button any does nothing.

I can't enter the BIOS if I'm fast until the message arrives, and it is set to the Startup Mode, will not resume. I tried to reset the default settings, removal of hard drives and boot from other devices, but it does not seem to happen, so I canoe perform a BIOS update either.
Ive had the machine goes in search of a battery that I can remove or I can press a reset button, but I couldn't find anything.

I can do, or is it totally dead for good?

Please help me! Its a laptop second hand, but I have had it a week! ;)

    Hello

Could you please check if the HARD drive has been recognized in the BIOS!
If she recognized the war you should try to install a new OS.
Boot from the CD by pressing the C key immediately after starting the laptop.

    You can also try this:
Simply remove the cache connector unplugged the HARD drive HARD drive and plug it in again, turn on the laptop.
If the same message appears, simply press the SPACEBAR and check if the operating system boots from the HARD drive.

  • My opinion on the Toshiba Equium A60-155

I've had an Equium A60 - 155 during almost a year now and I'm quite impressed by it. For £730 I paid for it, not worth it.

I had to increase the ram with another stick 512 for another £60 as the laptop does not work even with the standard 192. By that, I mean system breaks down, abnormal system responses, spontaneous reboots, system files/missing features, anti-virus program, just basically a machine unreliable, unusable failures.

I will say that now the extra ram is installed, the software is more stable and most previous problems disappeared. But Toshiba is expected to have delivered it with 512 MB in the first place!

And the battery on this is terrible! There is barely even a laptop! On a good day with battery all the saving settings on max I get about 50 minutes of it--and Yes, a year ago, when it was new, it would last together 30 more minutes at about 1:20. At the point where the thing was started in Windows and you install to work, it is for food then you might as well forget about asking him and always run from the network.

How Toshiba charge that kind of money for a laptop that has this kind of performance? There is nothing on the laptop that can justify this money... the graphics card? Average. The processor? Celeron - enough said. The motherboard? Standard. The battery life? Laughable. The DVD burner? A bonus, but not worth the extra money. The size? Large.

Just that there is more that I could do about it I wish and Toshiba could be made aware of the misery that they have caused me (and probably many others) during this 'portable '.

    * Note to the mods - please do not remove this post once again. Why do you feel the need to remove it anyway? Send me an email.

I don't want to sound harsh, but you shouldn't really complain if you had bothered to check the specifications before you buy. Regarding the system crash that you can't just blame Toshiba is much poorly written drivers in XP bugs bugs in the BIOS firmware. Make sure you have XP installed with all the latest service packs for updates also updates BIOS (there has been 3 since I bought my A60-181) and if you want to try a different operating system to install Linux or use a distribution like Knoppix bootable CD.
The battery life on laptops are poor, in general, I have seen some rival brands that quoted 1.5 hours but that the technology for you and having a processor Celeron doesn t s helped no more. That said that 50 minutes seems short for load complete so I recommend to contact Toshiba and see if they replace.
The Admin of this forum is probably done only by ensuring that all messages on this forum to help are useful asking the nature. Making negative comments about products Toshiba on a Toshiba forum isn't clever but if you have a problem, then ask for help instead.

    see you soon,

  • Need motherboard for Equium A60

Hi, I am looking for a motherboard for my laptop, it is a model of P4532/256 / Equium A60 40GB not. PSA67E-00200D8J.
Could someone tell me what is the reference number of the card mother or even where I would be able to get an a?

    Thank you very much Rob

    Well, you have 2 choices;
You are going to buy a new motherboard that cost a small fortune or you try to perform a search on the popular auction site for a second hand Equium A60 (Satellite A60) or second hand motherboard.

All parts and also the new motherboard can be ordered from the ASP in your country.
Technicians could directly control this part of the Toshiba.

So it s you the choice now ;)

  • Equium A60 issue of the wireless USB mouse

I bought 3 optical mouse for my equium A60. The first 2 have worked for a short period, but then appeared to be very erratic, beating on the entire screen and the slightest touch. I just bought a third and spend money on it to combat this problem, but it's always like it. It's a belkin wireless optical mouse. The connection is USB and I have no driver to install. It flies just all over the screen completely uncontrollable. Please can someone help.

    Hello

Have you checked the pointer options in the properties of the mouse?
In my opinion, you should try changing the query options to slow down the pointer options.
In addition, improve it the accuracy of the pointer must be marked.

  • Equium A60 - I need to factory reset

I have an Equium A60, I need to reset zero factory because it is very slow and has a lot of unwanted things about it. However, I need to keep all the I-tunes that is on. I have also no original discs etc to re program, and I'm not a total pc expert.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi Mark,

The only way to get your A60 comes back to its factory condition is to have a set of a Service partner chartered Toshiba recovery disks. In addition, you will need to back up your I-Tunes (by copying them to an external hard drive if you have one, or else by copying them to a CD/DVD flammable).

Note that the system from the recovery CD restore will erase the contents of your hard drive and you will find while the latest updates Microsoft etc. will be missing. You can doenload the Microsoft Update site.

Personally, I would recommend just clean your system of unwanted content. The simplest approach would be to run a utility like CCLEANER (Google to do this, it's freeware). Then run a full scan of the system (from your existing package of anti-virus) and finally run an adware scan using Ad-Aware and SpyBot (Google for these, they are both freeware).

Finally, go to the Add/REMOVE software control panel section and remove any what spftware/applications you don't want.

Run a system utilities disk defrag tool and the work is done. Your A60 should be as good as new but with all the latest Microsoft Updates always applied.

    Kind regards

  • Equium A60 does not restart

    Hello

My Equium A60 which I had since almost two years earlier this week crashed and does not restart. I met previous problems of slowness and the computer laptop closing (which I believe was down to heat), but it's much more serious.

All that happens when I pass on is a black screen is displayed, as if the monitor does not work, and then after a few minutes it turns off, there is nothing really to go. Is there anyway I can record what's on my hard drive or who lost? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

You can try to connect the HARD drive to another laptop or desktop as an external device using the USB HDD box. The disc HARD should be recognized automatically and you can copy all of your files.

Of course, this is possible if the HARD drive is not defective. I did several times with my old Satellite 1900 HDD. No problem at all.

On your device, I can tell you just follow: after pressing the power button / stop if there is no activity (HDD led, display, the cooling fan noise) I guess the unit must be controlled by the service.

  • Equium A60: message error "virtual memory is low.

my daughter has a Toshiba Equium A60 for over a year (now off warranty of course) and had error messages saying that its virtual memory is low. This happens almost every time that she uses his computer now and it cannot open any of its requests at the moment.
    any ideas out there?
She cannot renew his subscription of McAfee online because she can't keep usable enough long to do anything. grateful for any advice.

    Thank you

the main problem is that it is in a House of the student with 3 others and sounds me for the computer - a mother no-tech tips!

    Hello

Unless you are an experienced user, you should allow Windows to manage this setting for you. Your problem may occur if the default settings have been changed somehow. First to diagnose your problem, you must follow these steps to ensure that Windows runs properly your virtual memory settings.

    1. find out how virtual memory is managed. Right click on 'My Computer' and choose 'properties '. Click the Advanced tab, and then under Performance click settings.
    2. which opens your performance Options. Click the Advanced tab. For private users 'typical' Processor Scheduling & Memory use must be set to "programs".
    3. under virtual memory, click change.
    4. which opens the virtual memory options. If you have more than one hard drive, make sure that your primary hard drive is selected under "Drive".
    5. under "Paging File Size for selected device" check the box indicating the size of the managed system.
    6. click OK in all the 3 boxes to close off these settings and restart your computer
