Slow performance with a S130

Hi, just to take delivery of a PowerEdge R630 that has a Perc S130 RAID card with SATA 4 disks * 250 GB 7200 RPM in a RAID5 array and we meet a few slow unexpected performance.

The use of CrystalMark, the maximum speed of reading that we see is 12 MB/s, with 7 MB/s write. I know this is software raid, but I expected a bit more performance than those.

The most recent drivers have been taken from the dell web site (4.0.0.37) and looking back, windows, installing the server took much longer than usual.

I know it is soft raid, rather than hardware raid accelerated, but the performance to be much better as it is, I would have expected (I have here, a NAS with raid software providing 90 MB/s read/write with just an Atom processor, not 2 * Xeon E5-2620 v3.)

Thank you very much.

"No, the S series controllers are garbage. My recommendation is that if you care enough about its performance to ever consider a running reference point, then do not use it. »

Accept this controller is useless, Dell should stop using these low-end devices (I do not call it a raid of the notice).

Now, all users, you can spend a lot of time trying to understand the question, wait for a possible solution (long and unlikely, as it was broken to begin with) or you can buy a real hardware raid. Personally, I inherited a few customers with the low-end devices and do not waste time, I just bought real hardware raid controllers.  Be arrogant / angry at Dell does not receive your subsystems raid to the height, Hey if you order a Porsche with a VW Beatle engine do not expect to win races.

  • Extremely slow performance with Radeon HD 7870

    Hello

I use a number of Adobe programs on my new 64 bit system of Windows 8, with 16 GB of ram, a processor Intel Core 2.67 ghz i5 and AMD Radeon HD 7870 2 gig. All programs (including After Effects and Illustrator) work very well with the exception of Photoshop CS6 64 bits, which is extremely slow performance with GPU to use enabled in my preferences (Photoshop selects by default). If I disable the graphic processor use, this slowdown faints. If I change the Basic Design Mode, there might be a slightly detectable improvement during Normal and advanced, but it is still horribly slow. The refresh rate seems to be only a few frames per second. Everything is slow: brushes, zoom, panoramic, as well.

I tried changing the settings I've seen suggested elsewhere: I went 2 level of Cache, history says 10 and the size of the tile to 128 k. No effect. Photoshop is currently the default using 60 percent of available ram. Efficiency has remained 100% overall of all my tests. In addition, this slow performance touched me from the moment that I installed Photoshop; It didn't arise after previous good performance. The problem exists regardless of the size or the number of documents that I opened. Performance is always terrible, even when I create a new blank canvas of 500 x 500 pixels and try a simple task like drawing with a brush.

Photoshop is perfectly up to date, and so are my graphic drivers (Catalyst version 13.1). Any help would be greatly appreciated; yet performance is so bad in Photoshop it is unusable, graphic acceleration activated. Thanks in advance for the answer.

I use Catalyst 12.8 pilots at the moment and have a Windows 7 system and have a remote access utility called Radmin installed, but I don't know if seeing that Microsoft based Render driver is provided on Windows 8.  It seems that this could be the key, as the basic OpenGL implementation of Microsoft is made all in software.  If somehow driver Microsoft took control and you don't get really the GPU acceleration, then that would surely make things really slow.

Rafaello, you have updated drivers...  You can post your top of your system information again?

Have you tried a full, complete deletion ATI driver and reinstall from for example, 13.2 beta?  Here is the removal of ATI tool:

  • Very slow performance with Windows 7 on i7 Quad

I bought my wife a Lenovo E530 i7 quad with screen 1600 x 900 and running Win 7 in September 2012. Previously, she had an Asus Core 2 Duo also with Win 7. The laptop is used to picture (scanning, editing, cataloging) work, family, the navigation and email history.

The E530 was desperately slow at the beginning. Not better, not faster than the Asus. Performance seems to vary from slow to excruciatingly slow.

    Features include:

    -very slow to open programs

-slow to react to the choice of menus and clicks

-slow to react to the touchpad

-scrolling is not smooth, vibrates, much worse than Asus

-often distorts the sound and video, audio stutters

-IE9 make often video has properly - green band across the bottom with the rest of the colors shifted upward - change the video quality will fix it sometimes

-very slow internet response compared to the other machines on the same network of navigation.

However, startup speed seems to be OK.

I spent weeks (months?) through the forums, verification of updates, deletion and restoration of various programs and drivers looking for driver clashes. I tried the clean boot with only Windows drivers and various other combinations, and it made no difference.

For a long time wifi would be max 54 Mbps but somewhere through the process he begins to operate at up to 300Mbps.

Nothing seems to stand out in reports on health of the system and the event viewer. Windows experience scores seem to be everything I expected from my older i7.

Resources and performance monitor reports a problem with the hard drive:

The average disk queue length = Max 16 = 106

    %Idle = 0

    Disk read/s Ave = 0.093 Max = 3

    Disk sec/Transfer Ave = 0,067 Max = 1

    Disk s/write = 0.022 Ave

Even when the computer runs slower the CPU usage, and memory usage is not mounted and ceiling ever.

SFC report any breach of integrity.

FixIt MS - slow performance does not detect any problems.

The disk check is not a problem any.

It's so frustrating that my wife threatens to throw it in the trash and buy a Mac (the horrors :-)).

Any ideas on what I might have missed or what I should look at?

    Thank you

  • Slow performance with P410i need to hardware upgrade?

    Hello

I saw this chapter on the release notes (http://www.vmware.com/support/vsphere4/doc/vsp_esx40_vc40_rel_notes.html):

"Slow performance during virtual machine put under tension, or disk IO on ESX/ESXi on HP G6 P410i or controller Smart Array P410 of platform

Some of these hosts can show slowed performance over the power of the VM on or by generating a disk i/o. The main symptom is degraded performance of e/s, causing a large number of error messages similar to the following to be recorded in the logs.

    Solution: install the HP upgrade of P-series 256 MB Cache module: http://h30094.www3.HP.com/product.asp?mfg_partno=462968-B21 & pagemode = ca & JumpID = in_r3924/KC "

Has anyone encountered this problem? I would like to know if this problem appears with the disk i/o of the service console (in its vmdk files?).

    Kind regards.

    M.A.

We recently bought a ML350 G6 with disks SAS 3 x 146GM 15 k and base Comptroller P410i.  I was appalled when deploying a VM from a 20 GB model took 7 hours and slowed down the other virtual machine running on the box to a crawl.  We have added the cache of 512 MB with the dough and the difference is like night and day.  Deploy from the same model now completes in less than 15 minutes.

  • HP BL460c slow performance with Mez Qlogic FC.

I am under 16 blades ESXi with Qlogic FC mezzanine cards.  Performance have been greate to the Build number:

153840 on March 20, 2009.   After the upgrade to the Build number: 153875, qlogic module took more than 30 minutes to load and later all the modules load very, very slowly.  I tried every generation since March 20, and they all lead to very slow startup time and slow CF performance with lots of timeouts.

Today, took me to update to the latest version of the HP BIOS for server, network cards, Qlogic and the ILO.  And I had no luck.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thank you

  • Windows 7 SP1 w/IE 11 freezes, slow performance with switching webpages, downloads, games run very slowly and when to play simple games (for example, CandyCrush Saga) it ignores the graphics and music.

I have an older Toshiba Satellite laptop I found that, after buying new laptops, I return to my only older because of its speed of travel from site to site, download and never had any problems with games.  I was running Windows 7 Home Edition, IE 9.

About a year ago, I decided to upgrade my Windows 7 Home Edition to Windows 7 Professional and updated my browser IE 11.  Laptop still has a large.

Then about 6 months ago I started to receive messages when you enter a Web site that I need to install Flash Player to view the page.  I checked my modules and Shockwave or Flash Player have been activated and would download it again to display the Web site (which I had already visited several times without any problems).  This has happened on several different sites.  Then I started to receive messages that I needed to upgrade my IE8 browser to a newer version.  I checked HELP to make sure that I still installed IE11 and I did it, I started getting these messages more often then I went to the aid of Microsoft Office on what to do if your Web pages telling you to upgrade.  Basically, IE11 is reset or uninstall IE11.  Reset is not good so I tried the method of reinstallment.  I uninstalled IE11, went to the download page for Microsoft IE11 and proceeds to download IE11.

I saw a message that I couldn't download IE11 because I need to Windows 7 SP1 or later or Windows server 2008.  Then, I went to Microsoft requirements for the installation of Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 and follow-up procedures one (i.e., uninstall Adobe Acrobet, disabling Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender and firewall, etc.) and after the installation of SP1 for Windows 7, followed all procedures to know what to do after the installation of SP1.  Downloaded all the updates (which were more than 120) restarted and was satisfied with fluent how my laptop worked once more.

After a week, I noticed my phone to talk more and more to load pages and would begin to get Windows Explorer "unresponsive".  It started with almost everything I opened and I tried to edit Web pages or click icon to redirect me to another window, I kept receiving "not responding".  Rose (Microsoft), what to do and monitoring tools to try to fix the problem.  Initially, the problem was to find for a few hours, then starting upwards.  After a few days, my laptop almost took 30-45 seconds to switch between the tabs or windows.  After a search through questions and answers in the Microsoft community and Microsoft Web pages, the bottom line was reinstall Windows 7 SP1.

Yet once, uninstalled and reinstalled Windows 7 SP1 and again ran perfect for a few days.  I turned on computer laptop yesterday and noticed that it took a long time for the upcoming Windows logo and has a black screen for a few seconds before the logo appears.  Of course, out of nowhere, I went to IE clicked icon and took forever to get to Yahoo (which is my predefined Web page).  Each page, I'm going to again is freezing, "not responding" and very slow operation.

It is so frustrating because I added not all programs at all.  I am running IE11, Microsoft Security Essentials, and that's all. Outside of Windows Defender, firewall, Explorer, Media player, etc..  Microsoft Security Essentials (I did a full scan) has detected no viruses whatsoever and I 264 GB 285 GB free on my C: drive.  Therefore, there is no problem with the free space.  I have deleted the old files, temp files, analyzed and defragmented my hard drive and am just lost as to what is the cause.  All my drives are underway and have no conflict with all devices.  If I go down my Windows Professional so I will not be able to download anything higher than IE9.  I love IE11 and am happy with Win 7 SP1 if only he would stay longer than 3 or 4 working days.

    Do you have any suggestions?

  • Slow performance with 2008 Server R2

    Hello

I just installed Microsoft Server 2008 R2 with the VMware tools but it get a performance very slow with the mouse and keyboard.  The tools seems to be OK (VMware pointing device is there) but the video driver is one of "default VGA driver.

I know there is a performance problem with ESX4 and often the solution is to install the video driver (wddm_video).  I would try on ESX5 but it is not in C:\Program Files\Common Files\VMware\Drivers\ on my installation.

    Anyone with the same problem?

    Thank you!

    Assist HT: enabled

    Virtualization technology: enabled

    DRAM prefetcher: enabled

Training Software Prefetch Prefetch material: enabled

    Hardware prefetcher: enabled

    Demand-based power management: disabled

We have also tried to run this comments with 1 vCPU (2.6.18 - 194.8.1.el5PAE):

The first run after a reboot:

    time pg_dumpall >/dev/null

    Real 8m1.764s

    user 0m12.649s

    sys 0m3.133s

While it works, the system fails (for example, a 'top' which should be updated every second can be updated every 7 seconds). The guest spends a lot of time in the 'system', do what we do not know.

    CPU: 17.3%us, 81.9%sy, 0.0%ni, 0.0%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.8%si, 0.0%st

It takes 7 minutes on a server physics multi-core (4x2.8Ghz Xeon).

It takes 17 minutes at best (more time) on "verik" with 2 vCPUs.

We would really like to migrate our physical postgres server in VMware, but we cannot justify it doing so unless he can perform at least as well as on physical hardware. (We tried to store the database on the local disk and mounting NFS host datastore; similar performance in all cases. We also checked adequate bandwidth on our links for storage and front networks.)

We reviewed several postings on execution of the guests with more than 1 vCpu and think we understand how vSphere CPU coscheduling works. But in our scenario, without conflict of use of CPU resources, we do not know why we're having performance issues.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

    Craig

First, why OS 32-bit VMS with 16 GB of RAM?

My first and very strong suggestion is to go for the 64-bit version of CentOS, EAP is known to have poor performance. Run us multiple virtual CentOS 64-bit machines, and I can't say that we have unexplained performance issues.

You might try to twist a little bit the 32 bit existing OS, but I don't expect a big improvement. Keep this divider = 10 in your kernel parameters, but if you like to try again with simple CPU add 'nosmp noapic nolapic' kernel parameters, those can drop the percentage of time processor rdy one quite a bit, at least I saw that happen on busy ESX host. Also assign some pages of huge memory in the Linux kernel and configure PostgreSQL to use.

Your BIOS settings also appear to be inefficient, the General recommendation is to disable the CPU features on the ESX host preloading since when the CPU executes several processes (VMs) preload results in a high number of failures which is just waste of cycles CPU.

Equipment training on Software Prefetch Prefetch: disabled

    Hardware Prefetcher: disabled

But still, go for 64-bit operating system.

  • Slow performance with XMLTable. Are there alternatives?

    Hello

I use the following code to select the xml data in an xml object.
    SELECT DATEN.*
FROM (select FNC_RETURN_CLOB()) as l_xml from dual) PO,
           XMLTable('//ROWSET/ROW' PASSING PO.L_XML
           COLUMNS  "KdNr"    VARCHAR2(10) PATH 'KdNr',
                    "PMTyp" VARCHAR2(50) PATH 'PMTyp',

                    "GUID" VARCHAR2(50) PATH 'GUID',
"DatLP" VARCHAR2(20) PATH 'DatLP') AS DATEN
The function 'FNC_RETURN_CLOB' connects to a web service, and returns the data as an xml object. The function XMLTable generates a SQL her table. The process to select lines about 4000 needs about 12 to 15 seconds where the transformation of the xml to sql object needs 5 to 7 seconds. I wonder why it is so slow? Are there alternatives available?

    The function looks like this:
    create or replace
    FUNCTION FNC_RETURN_CLOB RETURN XMLTYPE AS
     l_clob CLOB;
     l_xml XMLTYPE;
    BEGIN

      );

      l_xml := XMLTYPE(l_clob);

      RETURN l_xml;
    END FNC_RETURN_CLOB;
Him returns the XML looks like this:

It is possible that as you query large XML data stored in memory (PGA), you don't get good performance.
You can use an approach where you
    (1) create a (temporary) table of XMLType stored as a clob securefile
    (2) add the web service's response to the table &
    (3) query against the table.

  • Portege R400: Very slow Performance with Vista Ultimate

    Hi all

Portege R400 is delivered with Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit Edition and Vista is really - honestly - incredibly slow! (especially with R400, due to the configuration of the laptop)
So I decided to install Windows XP Tablet PC... But I discovered that there is no driver available for R400 XP.

I'm not directly complaining on the Portege models/series...
It's a great design and I bought it, knowing the configuration. But I didn't know how Vista was eager for system resources...

I complain on Toshiba policy or what-so-ever ONLY to the Vista and not XP drivers.
Microsoft is desperately trying to sell Vista because they know, they really don't have this time and I heard stories about how they block their own market XP.

.. .and I think that Microsoft and Toshiba can have an agreement on "selling only computers laptop Vista..." (just a guess but it seems so... correct me if I'm wrong)

It is a torture to use Vista on Portege R400 and other equivalent configurations. (even when all the Visual effects system, disabled etc.)
On the other hand, I can't use my XP on R400 tablet... so...

So, trust me when I say I'm going to throw it away!
But before doing this, if anyone of you knows a solution to my problem. Please let me know,
because I paid a lot of money for this turtle.

    concerning

PS: I hope that this is a democratic platform and my post not be erased or changed.

    Hello

First of all, you don't have to suspect Microsoft or Toshiba has an agreement with Vista. Toshiba isn't the only primary selling units with just a VIsta operating system, almost every laptop to the manufacturer it.
And you're right, Vista is a slow operating system, because it has a new UI with lots of graphic effects here and there and many features like the sidebar, you have really not at all.

Since I bought my first one Vista laptop at the beginning of the year, I thought, as I don't want to not be installed and want my XP back and so on and there was no available to manufacturers of XP drivers download page either. I have a Toshiba laptop no and had the same frustration as you.

Now, I had two options, check every important feature on my own via google or using tools such as engineering pilot or pimp my Vista driver installation.
Firstly I did an installation of XP, all drivers to research, I need, who did not take my as much as I thought it would be. But after a while, I wanted to give the new Microsoft OS a chance.

Used disk recovery and first wiped all the software I didn't need, so goodbye almost every tool installed on my machine, which was not unique to microsoft.
Disabled many features, that I didn't want and I can say, speed increased a lot! This brought my buy an original version of Vista, made a new installation, installed all the drivers necessary, and hey, I'm happy with it.

Thus, ended with my story, you have two options now. Search XP drivers on your own, using the tools and google or tweak your Vista. There are many guides on the internet that can help you.

And do not be angry with Toshiba, as it's the same problem with other manufacturers too, as you can see in my case.

  • Slow performance with laptop computer Windows 8.

    Separated from this thread.

Nothing don't you suggested worked. I have a new laptop with Windows 8. I am extremely disappointed by my experience of this new version of windows. Maybe if I had a necessary step for companies their tablet, maybe I'd be this. However, I want my old rear windows. It of a joke and does not print the user of the operating system. Nothing is intuitive and even your description on how to do was not easy to follow.

    Hello Jennifer,

I understand your frustration level, but if you give us the opportunity to help you with this problem, I'll try my best to help you with this. I would be grateful if you could provide the following information:

    1. What exactly is the problem that you are facing? D o you have problems to access the applications installed on the hard drive or access the Internet?
    2. What is the brand and model of the computer?

You can try the following methods and check if they help:

    Method 1:

Is one of the best ways that you can improve the performance of your PC by optimizing the hard disk. Windows includes features to help optimize the different types of readers who use PCs today. Any player from your PC uses, Windows automatically selects the optimization that is suitable for your car.

Important: while performing the check disk on the hard disk, if bad sectors can be found, then check disk will try to repair this sector. All the data available in this area may be lost.

    Method 2:

A quick way to check if your PC has a virus is to use Windows Defender. This malware protection is provided with Windows and helps identify and remove viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

I'm testing the vSphere Web Client, but I find it excruciatingly slow - it takes almost 5 minutes just to open a session, and each click after that I take a good load of 30 seconds before the new page is completed. I think I spent a good 10 minutes to total just go to the screen where I could power on a virtual machine, which is something that can been done in less than a minute using the traditional desktop client.

    Horribly misconfigured web client somehow?

The following changes improved the performance of the web client of my client. So far, no more hung tasks, navigation in the console of the web client has been improved. We are always monitoring well.

Has increased the heap size JVM of vSphere Web Client to 3 GB. Used the following KB KB VMware: settings of the configuration in VMware vCenter Server 5.1 and 5.5 Tomcat server

  • Slow performance with select fast etc.

Since I don't know which update Photoshop CC began severely lagging behind when it comes to the use of features such as the quick selection. I'm working on a file relatively small (1 layer and background). Photoshop has decided to freeze so I had to shut it down. Most frustrating.

    My specs:

    Windows 10 64 - bit (improved 7)

    RAM: 8 GB

Processor: Intel Core i7-2600 @ 3.40 GHZ CPU

Capacity 1 TB more external hard drive

He said nothing as such, you can also try to reset the Photoshop preferences to default.

Start the application while pressing Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or command + Option + shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop settings file?"

    Kind regards

  • Slow performance with APEX Firefox3 applications

    Hi all

I use Firefox 3 to develop an APEX (my first) application. Today, I see that whenever I browse in a shape of the APEX (e.g. line Next or Prev), the light of the HD on my laptop docking station lights up for a second. After some snooping, I see that FF3 uses a local SQLLite DB to capture history URL. Light trails is logical, since every click next/previous form changes the URL to include the new value for the primary key in the underlying table of the form - new URL, new write history. And since SQLLite synchronizes would each write to the disk, I get an HD brilliant light each click form NAV.

Everyone has noticed this quite annoying problem? Any thoughts on the resolution (other than switching browsers!)?

    TIA,
    Rich

    Hello

Hmm, I'm using FF3 and I must admit that I do not see the behavior you mention.

However, I found mention of it here-

See if it is applicable to your case.

Note I'm not approve the link above, I have not tried, so if this doesn't work, or it breaks... don't blame me ;)

    John.

  • [PERC S130] Slow performance

    Server: PE R230

    OS: Windows 2012 R2

    RAID: 1

The raid controller driver version: 4.2.0 - 0009

Performance of I/o operations is very slow. Any idea of what can be done to increase it?

    4.2.0 - 0009

Difficult to solve, because it is difficult to know what expectations appropriate for these controllers should be. Begin with the starting point that these S130 controllers are pretty horrible. They are noticed controllers Intel chipset RAID, that's bad enough, even though they have a Dell branding coat thrown on them, which makes them even worse.

My recommendation is that even if you never CONSIDER running from a point of reference, do not use these controllers. You'd be MUCH better off with RAID managed by OS if you care about performance with no decent hardware investment.

In almost all scenarios, the controllers of H7x0 must be used.
