• Slow when opening an application

  Windows 7, 64-bit, 16 GB RAM, 6 strands.

  Recently, I noticed there is significant delay when I open some applications.  It's Chrome, Quicken, Firefox and others.  In the Task Manager, I can see the exe has started but with very little memory.  After a few seconds it starts and things seem to be fine.  If I open a link in the browser that goes to an external application, it can also take 5-10 seconds, even if this application is already running.

  On the other side, there is no deadline for the opening of IE, Word, Outlook (all MS applications).

  All these were running with near 0 use of memory and plenty of free RAM.  A way to solve the problems?

  If the problem persists I suggest you to start the computer in safe mode and check the status.

  If your computer works fine in safe mode with networking, I suggest you perform the clean boot.

• Opening apps take 15 seconds to load. Very slow in opening the applications.

  When I open any application after rebooting, it takes 15 years and drier. to load. If I have
  Cancel, then reopen immediately (not restart) the app, it starts at about 1
  s. This occurs for all applications. I can't find a reason for this except
  that maybe all apps. It always in memory. (HP i5 8 GB)
  I tried for awhile with Prefetch active, then disabled. There was no
  difference in behavior.

  Also, when I build my system, the first app opens in 1 sec after a reboot.

  The Mail app suddenly quit and when I tried to resume, I got this message

  If you do a Get Info (command - I) on Mail and Maps applications, what version numbers do you see?

  Try a reboot.

  Make a backup using Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure that data files can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

  Try to set up another admin user account to see if the same problem persists. If back to my Mac is enabled in system preferences, the guest account will not work. The intention is to see if it is specific to an account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

  Isolate a problem by using a different user account

  If the problem is still there, try to start safe mode using your usual account.  Disconnect all devices except those necessary for the test. Shut down the computer and then put it up after a 10 second wait. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the SHIFT key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. Startup is considerably slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a check for directory and disables all start-up and connection, among other things. When you restart normally, the initial restart may be slower than normal. If the system is operating normally, there may be 3rd party applications that pose a problem. Try to delete/disable the third-party applications after a reboot using the UN-Installer. For each disable/remove, you need to restart if you do them all at once.

  As you have made the leap from an older operating system by, is it old software that requires an update to function properly.

  Also, you have enough RAM, the specifications for El Capitan said 2Gbs but 4Gbs is more realistic and of course more IS more.

  You have applications that start at the start of Mac, maybe you don't need them running.

  Anti Virus and 'cleaning up' apps are not necessary.

• Instant Fusion 3.1.2 autoprotect slows down my Mac Pro to a crawl

  Whenever the merger takes a 'snapshot of autoprotect' virtual machine Windows 7 (2 GB of RAM, 2 processors) running Mac OS 10.6.7 on my Mac Pro 2.8 GHz Dual Quad Core (6 GB physical RAM), the Mac user interface slows down to a crawl. Command + Tab through all open applications, launch of new applications, updating the data displayed in the activity monitor all are affected, as it is the interaction of the user with other Mac applications. for example, the navigation in Firefox 3.6.17.

  Any suggestions what I could do? Options may include:

  1. Moving to FF 4
  2. Increase the physical RAM in the Mac
  3. Changing the configuration of the virtual machine (less than carrots, less RAM)
  4. Dumping FF altogether as my default browser and back to Safari.
  5. Do my snapshots, autoprotect only in the middle of the night (but that would mean letting the VM running when I have no need for anything either).

  Is this a problem well known with the known solutions or workarounds? I tried some forum research but did not come with anything. Thank you very much.

  With 2 GB of RAM assigned to the virtual machine, the snapshot creates a 2 GB file that remains in the current state.

  Regarding your question on what to do. I would add the option 6. Disable Autoprotect and create a snapshot if necessary and while the virtual machine is turned off. Make sure that you back up the virtual computer on an external drive. AutoProtect is no replacement backup!

  Here's a tip for the user on the problems of Wi - Fi. Suggest from the top and bottom. Maybe one of them will help you.

  (1) perform a forced reboot: hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons simultaneously for about 15-20 seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Leave the device to reboot.

  (2) resetting the network settings: settings > general > reset > reset network settings. Join the network again.

  (3) reboot router/Modem: unplug power for 2 minutes and reconnect. Update the Firmware on the router (support Web site of the manufacturer for a new FW check). Also try different bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) and different bandwidths (recommended for 2.4 to 20 MHz bandwidth).

  (4) change of Google DNS: settings > Wi - Fi > click the network, delete all the numbers under DNS and enter 8.8.8.8 or otherwise 8.8.4.4

  (5) disable the prioritization of device on the router if this feature is available. Also turn off all apps to VPN and retest the Wi - Fi.

  (6) determine if other wireless network devices work well (other iOS devices, Mac, PC).

  (7) try the device on another network, i.e., neighbors, the public coffee house, etc.

  (8) backup and restore the device using iTunes (ask for more details if you wish).
