Small C drive

My C drive is small and I need to decompress.  My hard drive is partitioned in 6 disks.  Can I merge one of the other drives in my C drive?

Hi matterb,

You need space to the right of the C: drive to sink into. Say you have the C partitions; D; E; F; G; : The easiest way is to move all the data (by dial manually) your D: drive (assuming that this partition is right next to your C: drive, otherwise you will need to use the appropriate drive letter that right-hand drive C :) to a different drive/partition (I assume that you are running a windows operating system?).) Once you have copied the data on the new disk/partition then 'delete' your disk/partition D: (or what drive letter is located next to drive C :). You will then have "unallocated space". Now you can "extend" the C drive in the unallocated space, thus making your C: drive/partition bigger.

If your D: drive is your system recovery partition you need to reassign the drive letter D: to any player you move the data. • Move photos to smaller hard drive

I have my library of photos on an external hard drive. It takes about 140,84 GB of space on that hard drive. I want to move it to my 128GB SD micro card.

I understand that the 140 GB is longer than 128 GB, so the default answer is "which does not work." However, I use iCloud Photos with "Optimize Mac Storage" checked in the preferences to iCloud photo library so I should be able to "optimize" my photo library to fit on a smaller hard drive.

Also, I suppose it's possible because I have iCloud Photos on my iPhone of 128GB 6 and the photos are occupying only 33.2 GB.

    Any ideas?

It is Possible to reduce the size of the library with optimized photos, of course - but it is designed to fit the available space and there is no function to do unless space is needed

You can ask Apple - http://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html

I guess that if you added large files on the disk and kept squeezing the library to force the successive optimizations, you might be able to achieve

But there is no way to put a 140 GB library on a volume of 128 GB storage

Another way that is currently supported is to use pictures to create a system library empty on the microSD card and let ICPL upload photos that are optimized on it then remove the micro SD card and the library system go back to your main library

Once you have the latest version (which should fix this) redo recovery USB and try again.

  • HP G71-340US recovery of the system using a new smaller hard drive (SSD)

I replaced the hard drive on an HP G71-340US notebook with a Solid State Drive (240 GB).  The original drive (who did not) was a 320 GB drive.

I tried to perform the Reovery of system using the recovery disks that I created when I bought the laptop.  However, the only option enabled when you are trying to restore is 'Factory Reset'.  When I choose this option, the recovery process may not continue his run as "... the hard drive of this computer is smaller than the original shipped hard disk.

Is there a way I can go beyond that?  Any suggestions/help would be most appreciated!

    Thank you!

HP System normal recoveries do not usually work on smaller hard disks. You may need to use a spinner legacy 320 GB hard drive and more capacity to perform the Factory image restore and then make a migration of data to the SSD. It is unfortunate that you chose to change for one SSD after the original spinner hard drive has failed.

With SSDS, in particular the best method is to use a upgrade kit or data migration kit.

A data migration kit consists of software cloning and a usb to SATA cable. The USB to SATA cable connect the SSD to the usb port of the laptop for the cloning process that is part of the migration of the data.

The software provided by manufacturers such as Samsung and Corsair SSD are usually able to transfer all of the operating system and on a smaller hard disk partitions.

  • Migration to a smaller (faster) drive

I have a new IdeaPad P580 and replace the hard drive of 1 TB with a smaller 256 GB drive (SSD). I started to search the thread on the partitioning of the disk and a key recovery, but what is said does not match what I see on my drive.

I have four partitions (and some unused space?) arranged as follows:

Without label (', active system"): 200 MB

    Windows7_OS (c): ~ 850GB

    (unallocated 35 GB)

    Lenovo (d): ~ 25GB

Without label ("OEM Partition"): ~ 20GB

So, contrary to what is said elsewhere, my C: drive is a lot greater, and my D: is relatively small. The only way I could migrate to my smaller drive is to resize the C: partition, and apparently will lead OneKey Recovery not working?

This seems pretty lame. What is the point of a small D: at all? And is there a point to the 35 GB unallocated or can I recover this space into a useful score?

How should I proceed? I would like to OneKey Recovery, but this isn't a deal breaker for me, until I recovery DVD.

Perform the recovery DVD even uses the "OEM" Partition (which I assume is the recovery partition), or if I cannot use OneKey Recovery and am rather counting on the DVD can I nuke this partition completely and reclaim the space?

I would be grateful for any guidance. At this point, the 'new disc' sons are incredibly long and it is easy to forget some information that might be relevant to my questions. Thank you for your patience.

I finally just did the following:

    1. reduce the size of my system C: partition to 100 GB. I got to use GParted LiveCD.

2 create a OneKey Recovery DVD set, with the current state of the system

3 replace the drive with an SSD

    4. start from my DVD recovery and restore of the system partition

I found myself with a partition unique and complete (256 GB) discs with the content from my old System Partition. Works very well. No OneKey button restore and not restore to the original content factory of course, but this isn't a huge deal. Would be nice to have, but...

In hindsight, I don't think I had to do the #1 step, because it seems that the recovery CD really are just backups of the system partition and so it was simply a copy of files from the recovery CD in the partition that you are targeting and the size of the original partition is irrelevant (as long as the new partition is large enough to hold all the files). But I didn't try it without this step so I can't say definitively that it would work.

    Hello

For 1 disc backup acronis TI 2011

Now, if I change the disc autour in VM with virtual machine shutdown

Change disc 1 SCSI 0:0 to SCSI 0:2

    and

Change drive 2 SCSI 0:1 in SCSI 0:0

    then

    Change disc 1 SCSI 0:2 SCSI 0:1

If I reverse the original orientations, it starts fine...

    What did I miss?

    Thank you

I had to mark the partition formatted as 'Active' (not bootable but close)

FYI the boot flag is exactly the same that the definition is active!  It depends on just which utility you use and for example, I use GParted Live most of the time with VM and in this case, you will see the following:

If I start with a MS-DOS floppy, you will see the following text:

So as you can see, it's the same thing called by different terms.

  • Cloning my Mac Mini to a smaller SSD drive

I have a Mac Mini end-2011. Inside is a 'spinning' hard drive 500 GB. I also have a Samsung SSD 128 GB 850 vacuum EVO. I would use disk utility on these video instructions to transfer all the data from the original HD of the SSD.

All instructions have been followed and that the whole system works very well, except the error at the end until the copying/cloning actually starts. During its installation phase, once launched, the disk utility application tells me that there is an error related to the size of the source drive that can not be copied in the targeted SSD.

While I realize that the size IS an issue, the content of my original HD is limited to 29 GB. So copy everything should be easy, and I thought it would be handled by the app.

SO: can I shrink the partition size of the original HD in the same size as the target SSD? It would work properly? If Yes, where can I find instructions to do this?

Alternatively, did I miss an option somewhere in my set up the restore function? There is an option somewhere that I may have missed?

(More in detail: when you select the source for restore partition, I chose the WHOLE - not the partition drive included.) This is maybe what is causing the problem? If I had chosen the included score only, this would work immediately and disk utility would have taken into account the size of the empty space, would have narrowed it down as a result of automatic way?)

If you use the restoredisk utility, your Destination drive (128 GB SSD) must be the same size as your Source (500 GB) drive or equal size. I don't have not divide a disk HARD grand in separate partitions, then try to do the restore. You can try this if you want.

So, you're the best alternative in my view is to initiate your HD Recovery from the HARD disk and reinstall OS X El Capitan on your SSD. During the installation, and then migrate your user accounts, applications, data, the parameters of your 500 GB drive.

You can also use Carbon Copy clone or SuperDuper! to clone your disk to your SSD assuming that your HARD drive will not fill to the top of your SSD during cloning. Then, you always have to reinstall OS X El Capitan to write your Recovery HD on the SSD.

  • It is possible add a smaller hard drive and load windows os on it so that the system boots from that?

    I have a new h9-1150 systems.

Have a hard drive 2 TB as OS main drive seems like a loss, especially if it crashes. This would make a great backup disk, but Windows 7 is already installed on it. Is it possible to transfer Windows to a secondary drive?

    Hello

There are few software around which allow you to clone your HDD in a new HARD drive. Normally, you have to work the numbers (whereby the software). I have clone from a HDD of 750 GB for one SSD 120 GB for my wife machine, 2 weeks back using a product called O & O Diskimage, I had to reduce the c: less than 120 GB first. Now, my wife machine runs on a 120 GB SSD and serve a second HDD of 750Go.

    I hope this helps.

  • I would like to replace small 'C' drive with the new more

    Hello
My name is Erik and have the following question.
I'm out of space on my hard drive of 40 g.  He is the master, and where I have windows XP installed among other things.  I have a disc of hd 650G I want to make the main drive (master), then use the 40g as a slave or secondary disk.  How can I transfer the bootfiles and the operating system, and additional programs from the current 'C' drive to the new drive.  It is possible for me to install the new drive as a slave if that helps...
    Thanks, Erik

Download install Acronis TI of trial and clone the drive, make sure that you follow the instructions to stop immediately the clone is complete, then make the drive over the master, unplug the old C drive, restart, and then if necessary reconnect old C as a slave.

Or use the tool available on most car manufacturers sites, read the instructions

  • Drive hard new Compaq 100 getting b Small Form Factor PC Windows 7 Pro error too small

I have a Compaq 100 b compact PC running Windows 7 Pro and I am trying to replace the traditional hard drive with a Solid State hard drive due to an imminent disk failure error I get. After installing the new drive, I put the system restore disc in the drive and when it gave me the option to restore the drive to factory settings, I clicked 'Yes' I then get an error that says "the hard is smaller that the original disk in the computer, cannot continue.", or something very similar. Anyway, it gives me no options, only to leave the restaurant. What can I do about it?

    Hello:

Recovery discs do not work on a smaller hard drive.

    This works...

If you can read the Microsoft windows 7 25-character product key, you can download simple Windows 7 ISO files to burn on a DVD for the version of windows that is installed on your PC, and which is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC case.

Burn the ISO with the option to burn the ISO on your DVD burning program and burn it at the slowest possible speed that will allow your program. This will create a bootable DVD.

Or use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB compilation method.

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.

The key will activate a 32 or 64 bit installation.

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below.

  • How to change the location of the folder to iCloud on external hard drive OSX

Hi, I have a small hard drive (128 ssd) I'd like to archive my photos in the ICloud drive. Currently I store in my external drive usb, but if I copy them to the folder of the iCloud drive it will consume my internal space I want to stay free. Ideally, would be to have iCloud drive linked to the file in the external hard drive, so he would be sure space me ssd.  I can't find any option in system to change his circumstances as I can with the photo library.

  • put the old macbook pro hard drive in the new macbook pro

so I have a MacBook Pro with a port of moniter fried on the motherboard and the battery started to swell physically so I removed the drive HARD and RAM end of 2009. So here's my question; Now, I received recently a late 2010 MacBook Pro with a smaller HARD drive if I put my 500 GB HDD from my old computer and now I wonder why it does not start even if it's a MacBook Pro registered, formatted and updated HARD drive already?

Does not work like that. The OS X is for the Mac that you pulled. Bus information processor and the room and everything. Buy an external USB box and put the old hard drive in it. You will be able to recover your personal data and you can delete it, format and use it for external storage.

You cannot shoot a hard drive with OS X work and put it in any Mac. Once installed, OS X belongs to the Mac, it was planned to organize. Any OS that way, is not just Mac.

    Bravo!

  • Portege R100 and new hard drive

I think to put in a larger capacity internal hard drive - 40G is now a little bit :(

Does anyone do this? The traps? Any suggestions on compatible drives?

    TIA

    Hello

As far as I know the old Portege R100 supported a HDD IDE controller.
So you will definitely need an IDE HDD. I think that it s a 1.8 IDE HDD.

I think the HDD IDE controller supports only the 28-bit LBA and it would mean that there would be larger than 120 GB hard drives not recognized.

That's why I choose smaller hard drives.

  • Portege 7100 - what size HARD drive it does support?

    Hello

my old man (I'm a student, so no money for a new) Portege 7100 (ct) has a small hard drive, so I want to shift to a bigger... but what size HARD drive supports the 7100ct? (and that's a 1.8 "or can I use drives 2.5"?)

    thx for any help...

    Hello

As far as I know that your unit has standard 2.5 "hard drive. Unfortunately there is no public record of such information. Accurate information, you can get that from accredited service partner or even some HARD drive supplier.
In my opinion, your device must be able to manage with maximum up to 8 or 10 GB HARD drive. For me, we know that some offering it can manipulate the BIOS with special tools and after that BIOS recognize a much larger capacity HARD drive.

Try to pick up some information on the net service partner or call your country. I believe that consultation service is free.
