Smartphones blackBerry Torch 9800 WiFi problems

Just bought a 'unlocked' Torch 9800 from Amazon.  We are having a problem with the game facing upwards.  The WiFi signal is detected by the device, but we cannot send or receive e-mails.  When you log on to the browser, we can not go to the line, as it is said that it has turned on WiFi but not coverage.  I have contacted my provider "Three" and they say that, to their end, everything looks good to go.  My previous phone is a Curve 9300 that works very well, I'll have to use my old phone and it is send and receive e-mails very well with good coverage.  The abandonment of the cover guard torch its all very frustrating.

We arrived at the conclusion that the problem is the phone itself, it has not been unlocked properly or we are missing something in the game upward.  If someone had a similar problem or you can shed some light on what we can hurt?

Hello and welcome to the community!

If you can use on the 9800, phone services via 3, then it's unlocked properly... but you can check here:

Any BB can be used on any carrier that is running the same radio frequencies that the BB is capable of (and I have no idea if your in are such). But, to bring you a BB on a carrier network that they don't sell, there are several obstacles to overcome:

(1) the carrier must say 'yes' to the fact... they are owners of their network and have every right to say what devices will be allowed to connect to it. If they say 'no', then it's the end of it.

(2) you must be sure that your BB is properly unlocked since its origin manufactured for carrier... see this thread useful for more details:

(3) you must get all of your voices works on the carrier, before you even try anything on data level services

(4) you must be a subscriber of the carrier, a plan of sufficient data to enable BB exclusive services that you wish to

5 (a) if the carrier directly supports your specific model BB, then you can proceed to the registration of the BB on their network, generating adequate for your BB service book delivery and treatment of the function. Since you didn't say that 3 you are on, I can't check to see if they support the 9800 or not... we do it, the other does not. But you can post via the official download portal:

If your carrier lists the 9800 in their portal, then they take over the it and you should be good to use it on their network.

5 (b) but, if the carrier does not directly your BB-specific model number, then the challenges are much more that most of the carrier's systems will deliver, for BB, the service books required to enable BB exclusive data services, even if you have subscribed to them.

So, based on this, your BB may or may not ever any function on this carrier network. It can be quite difficult to achieve, especially if 5 b applies. Then take a look at this and decide how you want to move forward. Most people end up just buying a new BB if 5b applies.

If 5A applies, then I suggest the following, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2, each should result in a message to your BB to come...) Please wait for this before moving on to the next step):

(1) registry HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with wireless network
  • Please wait a 'registration' message reach your Messages application

(2) Service reference books

  • KB02830 Send the directories for the BlackBerry Internet Service
  • Please wait "the Activation' Messages, one per already configured e-mail account, arrive in your Messages. If you have not already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.

(3) restart to take batt

  • Each time a random strange behavior or slow creeps, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the hood back and remove the battery. Wait a minute, then replace the battery and cover. Power on and wait patiently through the long reboot - about 5 minutes. See if things return to functioning. Like all computing devices, BB suffers from memory leaks and others... with a hard reboot is the best remedy.

I hope that will move things again for you! If this isn't the case, then you must keep workign with your mobile service provider as is their network with which your BB is unable to communicate, and only they can look "behind the scenes", as well as degenerating into RIM if necessary.

Good luck and let us know!

  • BlackBerry Smartphones Blackberry Torch 9800-device update problems

Recently received a notice on my BB Torch 9800 that my device was in need of an update of the software of the device of the RIM. Update I noticed that all my settings have changed. All the programs I downloaded now passwords still need once and all my settings i.e., ringtones, calendar alerts, are changed. I have to go through this every time that RIM indicates that a software update is available? Gives a never want to update. Gets to be a chore.  Initially, it took several attempts to get rid of the annoying alerts, birthday and anniversary repeated that kept appearing on the homepage. Whenever I get a alert now to a text or an email, I begin to receive a list of all alerts birthday, 20 to 30 of them, all over again.  The programs I use, like Poynt and YB (directory telephone yellow pages) are now asking to accept the terms and launch service all over again.  This happens whenever a software update is available, and import these software updates to do?

    Welcome the aggressors!

Upgrades are not absolutely necessary, but if you are like me, I always have the latest and best on my devices.

I guess you did your upgrade of the device over the air?  I have yet to try an upgrade in this way.  I prefer the old way via the Desktop Manager or using BBSAK (BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife - a pure small utility app).

You do regularly backups?  If not, it's something you should do, especially in a case like this where you have lost all your settings.  Any upgrade process should offer you the chance to save your device before installing the new OS.  As I said above, I have not yet tried the OTA Update method, so I don't know how this process works in what concerns the backup of your device.  Whence the back up to go, anyway?  And how get it back you if something is wrong?  These questions alone made me hesitate to use the method of the OTA.

Anyway, as you have discovered, one of the disadvantages of upgrades of the OS is having to reset your third-party applications.  Unfortunately there is no way around that.

In summary, if your device does what you want it to do and you're not having any problems, ignore the advice of update and leave well enough alone.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones Blackberry torch 9800 freezes

My 9800 torch is always time or stops working and a small timer in the middle of the phone lights up. It happens all the time. What is this and how do I get my torch works correctly

    Thank you

No matter what phone you have is going to have a certain amount of memory available for applications to use.  When you get that little hourglass on the screen, it usually means you have a bit too many applications fighting for what memory is available and your phone is having hard distribution of memory for each application runs correctly.  It is not a sign of a lower quality phone, it's just your memory is imposed.

Not to worry, however.  If you remove your battery when your phone is turned on, then replace, you should see this annoying hourglass disappear.  If you do this and he continues to appear, then dig a little deeper.

Start with the battery pull and the report with your results.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones Blackberry Torch 9800 gel

When I go to messages or search a calling which I missed it, my screen just hangs and won't let you use the keys on the phone.  Stays frozen screen and only way to relieve this is to take the battery out and replace it.  But the same thing is happening and you are constantly loading the blackberry with the security check which is a real pain in the neck.  I updated my phone to Version bundle 3049 v.6.0.0.706, platform 6.6.0.246 6 and he said to me when I check the updates that it is updated.

In view of this new error, I would recommend this thread:

You may or may not want to do all this... instead, you can simply want to use the first steps to properly remove the Desktop software and all the components of your computer and then go forward with the foregoing.

Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work... but it worked to much to solve the problems they have.

    Good luck!

I have unexpected problems with the receipt of emails.  Everything has been very well (even if the connection to the browser is a pain) then one day, only the Inbox is full of headers but no content of the message itself.  Anyone had similar problems and what is the solution?  Thank you.

Well, I was installing Fandango and once it has been done download the phone turns off to reboot and the screen lights up and down the bar showing the loading progress was going well and all and then it happens to about 3/4 in fact, then it stops and starts again and it does the same thing over and over again. descends from 3/4 stops. I tried pulling the battery and it has not made a difference. So I tried to remove the battery and just letting it sit for awhile, still nothing. Tried to reboot, still nothing. So I tried to connect to the computer to reset it and restore the operating system, but it does not connect. I bought in January, but I did not like the other warranty... It should still be under warranty for manufactures but...

You are able to reboot your device in SafeMode as shown in KB17877?

I guess, because it is taken in a reboot cycle, when you connect to the desktop software it does not have a stable connection to reinstall your software?

If this is the case, remove the battery and keep it off when you connect to the desktop software. You will get a pop up that the device cannot connect and there should be buttons retry, update and cancel. Select Update and you will then be able to reinstall the latest version of the device software.

When the load progresses, you will see a step that says "waiting for initialization of the devices '. At this point, insert the battery and recharging must complete.

  • Screen blackBerry Smartphones BB Torch 9800 freeze

My mother and I have upgraded to a BB Torch 9800 about 10 hours ago from Wal-Mart and so far the screen froze on me six times, and the only way I can understand how to solve this problem is to give the phone a hard reset.

What is happening is that we are in the middle of something, as the alarm setting or by choosing a wallpaper, and the device cannot return to the previous screen, or exit from this screen at all. We can change the parameters of the task that we do, but we can not save or return. The keys are block.

And no, we did not yet have the ability to set a password yet. I thought that maybe it was caused by the Otter Box by pressing the locking button, but it happens even when the Otter Box is off.

We two are new to BB and smartphones in general, having Samsungs for a few years. My freeze has happened twice in the last hour, and I can't for the life of understand me why.

    Info on the device:

    Carrier: AT & T

OK, this sounds like faulty software in this case.  It is possible to reload the operating system if you want to try it, but if you would rather simply exchange for another, I could definitely see that as well.

If you try to reload the operating system, you can do so by following the steps located here:

  • Phones smart blackBerry Torch 9800 problems of advice?

    I have a Blackberry Torch 9800. There is something wrong with it and it's not just one thing. For example;

When I click on App World I get a popup saying cela "to continue using Blackberry App World, you need to upgrade your current version. For more information, visit www.blackberry.com/appworld/support. "I have two options after that. 'Upgrade' or 'close '. Sure of 'Close' to close the message and does nothing. 'Upgrade' does nothing either, when you click on it... nothing... no Web site don't transfer anything. It is a big problem because I can not update my current applications or download new. My really outdated phones... and the App World isn't the only app that does not work properly. There are a couple of other apps that don't work properly either. How should I do to correct these problems the right way? A full system scan?

Thanks for your time and your support.

Try to reload your operating system. This reload BlackBerry World as well as the rest of your phone. To do this, connect your phone to your PC and open BlackBerry Desktop Software. Once your phone has been recognized, click device at the top of the software, and then click on restore. Choose the most recent restore point and the load. That should solve your problem.
