• Microsoft XPS document writer SNAFU

  I can create and save a XPS document but cannot open it to see.  Operating system is MS Windows XP SP3.   MS .NET Framework 3.0 has been downloaded. Not sure it's important but my Google Chrome Internet browser.  Any suggestions?

  XPS documents open with Internet Explorer. Set your default browser to IE.

  Open Internet Options, tab programs, default web browser, click make default.

  You can still use Google Chrome for browsing the web.

  Or change the file extension:

  Automatic updates of installed during the night MS. Now, a program that I use - constantly - but who needs to be restarted regularly for security reasons is no longer that it recharges. I uninstalled and tried to re - install. No go.

  Hypothesis: a firewall is listening Web access. And I can't find the firewall settings.

• E3000 and E4200 can extend wireless but when snafu disabled DHCP

  None of the many posts on the extension of the wireless here really solve my problem (I'm not a tech superstar so I need a little handholding).

  Currently use E3000 as my router.  My House is a wonderfully old brick structure with awesome cast thick walls and cool hardwood floors (Yes, I already drilled twice to drop the Ethernet wiring and run it in my basement to the back of the House to come and connect to a switch where is my office to win 8)  Excellent results.

  Now, I'm going to die just to run the wiring to the front of the House under the said floor so that I can bring it and attach a 2nd router. My sister-in-law gave me (just gave me, you the spirit wouldn't let me pay him!) sound E4200 that she can no longer use a reason any.

  Goal: Best performance for a front of House wireless (my bedroom upstairs and the porch on the main floor, where routers are / will be.)  With the additional router in front of the House I will be finally in a smart cable TV.  I must just have better wireless at the front of the House b/c I do a lot of work here lately.* *.

  1. what router do you recommend using as the main router?

  I tried to configure the e4200 (since the 3000 is already) and following the directions on all workstations. I updated the firmware, so the two routers are underway.  My understanding is that I need to put the 4200 (Router 2 "") in Bridge Mode and

  set on the same channel current wireless router 1 (3000).

  2 should I put the 2.4 and 5 Ghz on separate SSID Router 1?  If so, what do the SSID Router 2?

  3. If Router 2 has a separate SSID or should it be identical to my current network, that is, the Router 1?

  4. I understand that Router 2, you must disable DHCP because Router 1 is that work. BUT whenever I do this, in the process configuration, I can't get connected turn it on to Router 2.  I changed the IP address.   Router 1 is 192.168.1.1 with assignments up to 192.168.1.149.   So I do 2 router 192.168.1.2.   Is this good? I do this, then it restarts, and I connect in 192.168.1.2 "page not found".

  5. the way I go about it is:

  -My Office 8 win (I call him Victor, FYI) is connected via a cable (switch) to 1 (E3000) so LAN router and I use to see what my settings are there (and here I'm typing this post).

  -My Win 7 laptop (Richard, FYI), this is where I work on Router 2 (the E4200).  I have cut all connection without wire, then PC cable to Router 2 and connect to Router 2 and from there.

  6. am I correct that Router 2 must be in Bridge mode?  Whatever it is, please teach me - it means I'm setting up to repeat the signal or as a little separate LAN that is connected?  Which is better, in your view, given my objectives, above?  When I'm on 'the extension', it would be ideal to be able to go to the first/main network and send things my printer / PC is there, but I'm willing to put up with less of this in order to get the good signal in my areas of work from the home front.

  Note also that the family and I move and use several devices, so it would be fantastic if me and her husband and son and daughter (think: several tablets, phones, computers laptops, desktops, printers, scanners, blah blah blah in this House - I know, I know a lot more about networks I've always wanted to know!) can just get the signal stronger as we move.

  Thanks for any help you can give and of course I would knew what key information I can be left out. I'm really dying to get up and running.

  I recommend using the E4200 as your main router.

  Cascade the E3000 with your LAN E4200 to LAN.

  Thing to keep in mind when cascading a router:

  1. Change the IP address of the secondary router to something like 192.168.1.254 so its on the same network, but is not in conflict with the main router
  2. Make sure that the DHCP service is disabled on the secondary router
  3. Make sure that nothing is ever connected to the Internet port on the secondary router
  4. Have the different SSID of 2.4 Ghz and 5 GHz
  5. Duplicate configuration on routers wireless, but make them broadcast on different channels or put the chain wireless on 'Auto '.

• Photoshop and Snafu of batch actions

  I need a batch of thousands of files, the end result is that their dimensions must not be superior to 200x200px. My problem is that I need to run files portrait to landscape orientation. We deal with many rectangular files (initially as big as 5 feet by 10 feet) and I would like the final result of having all horizontal (i.e. vertical ones resting on their side).

  I have set up an action to pause and ask me if I wanted to turn (it was a vertical file), then all files after asking the same question in which I clicked on cancel because I didn't want the horizontal to rotate files, and therefore the action did not spare the rest of them.

  Is there an action or a script I could use that has a kind of "If/Then" of the scenario? For example, * if * the dimensions are taller than wide, * then * turn, otherwise leave the file alone?

• How can I immediately remove the entries finished in the Firefox download window?

  I had to reinstall it today because of the SNAFU silly Google home page. Previously, when a download is complete, it has disappeared from the downloads window. Not, it stays there and I have to delete manually. It's SO boring.

  I have a problem with my 80 GB Sata Hard when I was doing my xp bootable with 'gain Flash' flash derive from softwear my system restars and after that I may not see my (D, E, F) drifting only 'C' is visible.

  A Word to the wise... When you work on entire disk data recovery, it is preferable to make a clone of sector-by-sector disk for a second disc and then work on the clone, if things blow up in your face while working on the clone you always have the original to work with, you've already lost your files with a snafu do not let to another!

• Jam of transport on C7180 all-in-One

  I had an all-in-one operation until I tried to remove a paper jam.  After removing most of the paper to the back by following the instructions, I noticed a few pieces under one of the rolls and had to use a pair of tweezers to remove from the front. I am stil a message 'clear jam of transport' and the printer does not stop correctly. Before that, the only snafu was that the printer would not always print "fast draft" of some Web sites.

  So far, I tried to disonnecting the printer and insepecting of the front and back. I can't see scraps of paper inside. Any ideas on something else I could try?

  To this document, has been the key. On one of the steps, I saw the carriage freely return movement to the left and then dock on the right. I moved and then gently it leaves and voila a piece quickly to the top of the paper became visible. I would have NEVER been able to find it without moving its position anchored to the right carriage return.

• Libraries and photo gallery

  When has it become necessary to put pictures a "library" until I'm able to edit their? ".  I have Win7.  Have always had my pix on an external hard drive.  I used to be able to just open the drive, open the photo with Win Live Photo Gallery, and make the changes that I wanted to.  NOW I have to put in a 'library' on my computer, and then make the changes.  I have an external for a reason!  Don't want the pictures on my computer!

  I also tried 'their' indications concerning, adding / including the library and you get the msg that this can not be done...  WHAT A SNAFU!

  I read pages and pages of directions 'help' without any solution.  And a lot of articles.  I don't understand why I can't do it the way that I do.  The computer is a few years old, but I was doing the process on this equipment.
  I never even did anything in a 'library' before...

  @VolunteerJ, thanks for the links.  I read them.  Some helped me understand the concept of libraries.  YET, I still do not understand why I would use I KNOW where my files/folders are on my external.  I don't know that I Landa disabling, because I don't know much about records and don't want to spoil anything...

  While links cleared up some things... I am always frustrated by the fact that I can just open my photo of the exterior in the library and make the changes!  If the pix is not in a library I can't change them...  Any suggestions for this?

  AND, IF I have TO put the pix in a library to edit, what about my question where it won't let me include them?

• Windows 8 allowed, Am very disappointed

  I don't mind some things being different, and I understand the move to accommodate the mobile form factors.  However, there are several questions that are me costs time and productivity at work.

  The worst part was that my admin profile apparently is corrupt, and I have to jump through hoops to fix.  Lost time trying to work.  This kind of snafu should never befall a user of a BONE with a long history that precedes.  I tried various fixes online (there are apparently several ways of being in this State) and finally had to go back to the registry in order to repair.

  There are several small changes to the essential, apparently to bring an Apple-like feel (and I don't like the approach of Apple to the UI) and forcing me to think in tablet-mindset.  I'm fine with these kinds of paradigm shifts if they work and make sense, but I have tried to get with her and didn't find myself convinced.

  At the very least, will be fixed the fragile profile problem, easily corrupted?  It is specific to the hardware somehow?  (I use a laptop MSI).

  Most of my work is the development of software for Windows environments and when something as basic to lose my main account I gave serious thought to leaving Windows-land and running it in a virtual machine that is hosted by an operating system I hope more.

  Short answer: after 2 or 3 hours of stubbornly reverting on a temporary profile no matter what I tried, it unpredictable corrected himself.  A longer answer follows.

  I didn't want to create a new account to work around the problem: I was afraid that, although I might be able to move my desktop files to the new account, I would lose yet other parameters that take time, such as the preferences of browser and mouse speed.

  I tried several things, such as changing manually the registry for the profile settings.  Also, I unplugged my computer on the Microsoft account.  I really prefer not to have some business account linked to my computer and app purchases and really dislike approach world Apple iOS apps, so it felt good finally do and just a normal, local account.

  I had decided to do a local account and try to set up as my account, yet, after a few hours of wrangling with various attempts, the account newly disconnected, local end came with all my preferences.  So it was like I tried everything (reboot, logout, tweaking two accounts that try to hack the registry) and ultimately after I had apres que j' avais renonce gave up I got my set back up, if it was now for an offline account (IOW, it had been a Microsoft account but I removed his superpowers and now it was just a mortal standard account).  I also wonder if disconnection of the latter has played a role.

  To help you understand what caused the problem: I think when this type of profile corruption arrived, it has been when I have connected simultaneously on my local account (was a Microsoft account) and an account that I need to log in to the field of work.  At some point I try to refer to my domain account and I must wait while Windows is configured, I get the message telling me I'm now into account temporarily, office is a default, mouse is slower, I need to recustomize my browser, etc.

  In case it is related to the material: I'm on a MSI GT72 Dominator.  It is normally laptop a player, but I got it for superior performance for software development.  It performs well in terms of speed and memory, but some added MSI software sometimes crashes and I are still required if loading maybe a background app or driver is stumbling, resulting the return to a temporary profile.

  It's really a frustrating problem for me and this would undermine the sense of reliability we all with an operating system.  If a program crashes, it is one thing, corruption profile but it's like having a person completely reorganize your kitchen, and now you have to rearrange everything to be productive when you leave the room and back, it is changed again.  That night in my productivity at work and I really, really need to avoid it.  If you can tell me how to avoid victory Windows 8.1, I will certainly appreciate and feel less secure OS.

• CS3 is not an 'enable' under 'help' - what can happen?

  I installed CS3 purchased through Ebay - ad said never active. It took the serial number on the first use, but when I went to 'Help' is not an option to activate. Everything I read says to use it! All ideas welcome. (using Windows 8.1)

  May be compatibility problems, could be a bad Installer, could be the stuff getting blocked by an antivirus or a firewall license, could be licensed SNAFU with an illegally unbundled volume license. Impossible to say. Contact support and have them check the serial number after taking your clues from my comments above and check your system.
