Snapshot in ESX 3.5 problem

When I try to delete my instant one of my VM by VC, am getting error out '' operation timed. ''

Command to remove the snapshot throught THAT CLI is

VMware-cmd /vmfs/volumes/UUID/VMNAME/VMNAME.vmx hassnapshot-> command to check the snapshot is present or not

VMware-cmd /vmfs/volumes/UUID/VMNAME/VMNAME.vmx removesnapshot-> to remove

the above command is the type to remove the snapshot, right?

can I know why am getting error 'operation timed' out in the CR.

Thanks in advance

with respect,

Vimal

It has been deleted by your action, you "request time out" because ESX gets high used by this operation. You can change the value of timeout for client VI in the VI client configuration menu.

    Hello

I need to increase the size of the D: drive on one of my VM, but the option is grayed out, if I delete pictures then I can increase the size by clicking on change settings.

Is it possible to increase the size of it without deleting snapshots?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The answer is certainly 'no', you cannot increase the size of a virtual disk with snapshots. Using the X command - vmkfstools to increase the size of the basic disk will make unnecessary snapshots.

  • ESX iptables, causing problems with the Server 3.5

    Hello

    ESX server is restarted.

It is quite a large number of iptables rules prevents our monitoring system to check the memory disk, traffic, etc...

I tried to delete all using iptables - F, but the system crashed and I had to connect through the ILO to reboot the system.

is there a way to disable / remove all rules in iptables on an esx Server? We have other firewall in our infrastructure, we do not really need iptables or firewall installed with esx.

Otherwise, what is the method for open access to a port or request so that we can temporary open the necessary port for our monitoring system?

    Thanks in advance

    Mario

    After excuting

    esxcfg-firewall - allowIncoming

    esxcfg-firewall - allowOutgoing

You should get the following when you run iptables-L

    INPUT string (policy ACCEPT)

    target prot opt source destination

    Chain forward (policy DROP)

    target prot opt source destination

    Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)

    target prot opt source destination

The esxcg-firewall command changes the rules in iptables on the ESX server host. I used iptables f to rinse the rulesets in the past (this change can not resist reboot as the configuration files are not changed), but it is recommended that any firewall adjustments using esxcfg-firewall.

    Try the firewall chkconfig--level 3

    diasable firewall after erasing rules.

To activate just firewall chkconfig--level 3 on , then Start firewall service

    esxcfg-firewall - blockIncoming

    esxcfg-firewall - blockOutgoing

  • ESX 3i instant

How can I get a snapshot of the VM on the ESX Server?  For example, I create a snapshot and I can see in the Snapshot Manager, but I would like to see the actual file and move somewhere else.

    Thank you!

    Jeff

The best way to get a complete copy of your virtual machine is just clone it instead of take a snapshot. ESX 3.5 u2 and u2 VC2.5, this can be done while the virtual machine is running. But then, you have the problem of getting your data store files to a backup location. It cannot be recommended for a final solution, but if it's only for this time, it is perhaps faster than looking converter or products veeam.

If you want to understand the functioning of snapshots on a file level, then look at the link below:

  • Persistent cat problem after changing address IM regime in CUPS v 11.0.1

We have a working installation with the cat persisted on external Postgresql DB, with many chat rooms that are in daily use.

CUCM and CUPS are on version 11.0.1

To change the IM AD - name address to the email address, in order to facilitate the XMPP Federation (among others).

The change of address IM is no problem, but after the change of the person is member (or owner/creater) of any permanent plus discussion space.

I guess it is because of the change of address IM causes a regeneration of JIDs, and none of the news JIDs are present in the external BD. Maybe it's some sort of synchronization could fix that, but I returned immediately to a change of pre snapshot when I noticed the problem. So I don't know if he forge set it's me, if given the time.

I wanted to just some time to study before I'll try and make the change again.

Is it possible that I can change my IM addresses and keep all my persistent Chat rooms? Or is my only option to recreate all the my persistent cat?

    Any info/advice is welcome.

    Rune

I don't think that there is a fix for this, at least not an easy, one, once the service written messages to the DB, that's changing the JID triggers it all the necessary changes in the IM & P server, for inside DB, contacts lists, etc. But which does not extend to external databases.

What you might try, and I'm not sure it will work, is to go to the tc_rooms table and change the CREATOR_ID to the IADB and new, if it works, you have to try tc_users then tc_messagearchive and tc_messages and if the entry/exit time recording, tc_timelog

It would be the only way I could think, but that means you would need to change all the old JIDs for new.

If this does not work, then you will have no option but to recreate the rooms.

EDIT: Just out there is a bug related to this:

Persistent chat rooms is not accessible after a change of field of presence
  • Snapshots kept long enough for when the Active Directory computer account password has expired - this has been noticed after the restoration of a completed snapshop.  No matter what other configurations out there to address this nuisance?

I'm curious to know if anyone has implemented a solution to this problem?

In the AD, a computer account renews his password every 30 days so I think depending on when a snapshot is restored, it may be at a point where the computer account in AD password isn't at the height and which adds a task for the Admin network to readd the computer to the domain.

So, the longest that a snapshot will remain without any problems is 30 days and the shortest is 1 day.  It depends on the last time the automatic password renewed computer and when the snapshot was taken.

    It's a bit of a pain.

I'm curious if this is pretty typical and everyone just accepts this manual process?

Or if some have implemented a solution to work around this problem?

    Thank you!

There are a few articles Technet (see examples below) that provide information on how to change this behavior. However, keep in mind that it is one updated security related, so consider carefully if we need to change this option in a production environment!

  • Removal of VM snapshots will help to reclaim storage

We found about 8.1 TB of data store space used by the VM snapshots that we asked teams to go and remove as many of them created long back.

This will help me to regain the 8.1 TB of storage or only some GBs

    mubaraksardar,

If you remove these snapshots of that space will be available on the data stores again. I hope that you have a version of ESX which is most recent few years that the remove snapshot feature has changed over the years.

  • Virtual hardware switch to 4 (ESX 3.5) 09 (5.1 ESXi)?

    Hi guys

Someone made a form of virtual hardware upgrade of virtual machines with version 4 to 9?

Are there questions? I need to level 9 VM win2003, win2000 1 vm and 1 Net vm with windows, anyone know if there are any questions? Which is the process to do?

    Thanks and greetings

    Evening,

    Here's the process:

    1. stop the virtual machine

    2. the virtual machine snapshot

    3. upgrade of hardware

    4. start the virtual machine

    5 Verify the application functionality

    6 remove the snapshot

If you have problems a rollback to snapshot will change the version back.  I know that 2003 be fine with that will improve others I did not personally to version 9.   Anyway with the steps above you should be ok with a little downtime.

    Thank you

  • vCenter VM snapshot

    Hello!

It's just a matter on how to return to him for VM and correct snapshot where vCenter has been installed, in the case of vCenter DB has been installed on another virtual machine...

I mean, vCenter has used its own database and in the case where we vCenter VM snapshot - is possible to have problems with the database? Can have corrupted us data or something like that?

Or it is necessary to make 2 snapshots at the same time - vCenter VM and VM DB?

Suppose that latter virtual environment - ESXi, vCenter 5.1 5.1, comprehensive database to Oracle or MS SQL 2008 R2...

Can anyone describe his suggestion or knowledge?

    Hello

Just to clarify, you create an instance with multiple DB. So, from my point of view, you must isolate critical applications separately. As vCenter. But you can create an instance with a less critical application such as rebilling and Veeam. You know what I mean?

Because in your example, you take the only point which is essential for all components. Then of course, if you stop vCenter DB, all third parties apply will be inoperative. Just an advice, remember to always update and maintenance.

    I hope this help you.

    Kind regards

    Julien.

  • Several considerations are I/O to the vm to go back to the last snapshot before starting mass?

We have an environment Vsphere 4 with 8 hosts esxi by cluster.  In this group, we have a 512 GB which holds all the linked clones and master vms data store.  This is of course a test environment...

We need to start to 30 virtual machines both to perform automated tests.  In the past these 30 vms would be quick and easy start without problems.  Recently, we have begun saying the vms (via vmware API) to restore the vms to the last snapshot system before starting.  This has made the EXTREMELY long vm startup process and we cause problems.

So, I guess that going back to the last snapshot is whats is the problem?  My questions are:

    (1) correct, it's the instant return the cause?

    (2) indeed, what happens when you start a virtual machine and it loses any changes is when the last on and just comes back?

    (3) is it just kill our I/O?  What else does?

If it is a problem of e/s SAN then I can look at to balance our load LUNS, etc. but first, I need to know what is happening under the hood to properly address this.  Is there another method to reach our ultimate goal without causing such performance issues?

Yes, it's what I would say.  Spread your VM snapshot across different data warehouses as much as possible, who can help with your distribution of IO.

Lacking that, I can't see much else you can do.  Given your criteria for the scripts, and a simpler approach, I see your point to keep things simple and unified.  I have a better solution for you.
