  I'm not sure of the best way to update the bios of a Dell 2950 powerage on which I have a facilities of ESXi 3.5 u2.

  I have two virtual machines running.

  Dell has a "Update Package for Microsoft® Windows®" (PE2900_BIOS_WIN_2.1.0.EXE) which, in my opinion, can update the bios from a windows OS.

  I had to do some research, but I posted instructions on how to upgrade your Dell server running ESXi through records of SUU. Here are the instructions... I do before putting all servers in production, and after the shooting of any old material off the rack before stopping their production, never had a problem.

  Here's my process to update ESXi (dell of course hardware) servers.

  1 Download DVD Dell Software Update Utilitly, its 1.9 GB disc. (if you have a dvd player on your server, you can directly boot from this drive but if you had a CD player in your continuous server, or if you want to store the files of rep on a USB drive below eye).

  2. extract the contents of the iso (winrar), so a lot of my servers arrived with

  just for the readers of CD so I take a USB stick and loading JUST the 'repository '.

  folder from the disk update utility, which is about 1.2 GB of update

  files.

  3. then download the CD version of Dell Software Update Utility, it

  will have all the updates for the DVD and dell does not have up-to-date

  but that's fine, boot from that disk.

  4 start the CD, to the start screen select Update utility, wait 15-20

  There is no processor I know who supports version Intel second level Address Translation (SLAT) they call Extended Page Table (EPT) compatible with the 2950. I just searched online to see when Intel introduced the technology, it was introduced with the Nehalem architecture. Our first line of servers supported the Nehalem architecture were 11th generation, there may be some systems of generation 10th revision of second or third that support as well.   I tried to calibrate them and profile my system with the above settings. The question is: Why am I not able to precisely define a D65 whitepoint using domain controllers for the calibration of the equipment? Each software version Dell lead a difference of temperature of about 100 KB (average) each time. This translates into a cold shade on my monitor. I tried two predefined calibration options and customized in the software in three areas of color (sRGB, aRGB and native). The values used are D65, 120 cd/m ^ 2, gamma of 2.2. I tried the XML hack so for 1.0.0 but 1.0.1 and (at least) 1.5.1 should include as a default?

  Can someone shed light on this issue? Is my workflow calibration flawed or HW software Dell just this wrong? Changing white point is clearly visible and completely unacceptable. Also, I wonder why the dispcalGUI assume 6600K white point in reports?

  I did ' t need XML hack in DA 1.5: before calibration under the icon display and serial No. There is a text with applied BDU, RG_phosphor.

  Measure right after seeing the ArgyllCMS reports and cost of DEVELOPMENT. Look at the white point of profile (see additional statistics). So the problem is that DA is calibrated WRONG, but it measures right. Calibration is just against the profile, but the WP profile (and measured) is not very close to the curve of daylight. It is proposed to green in a plot of xyY (0,310, 0.33 x), a D65 moved to the Greens

  ArgyllCMS working properly assuming a 6600 K D whitepoint to evaluate WP measured. Color temperature is not as important as many people think. It is more important than the white point is if it is in the light curve. ArgyllCMS choose as "asumed WP daylight" closest point in the curve of daylight to WP measured. It is very close to the curve of daylight it is very dificult for the eyes to notice of 6600-6400 K

  Subject of your problem. I think there are two ways to do this kind of bad calibration:

  1 - may be you have some color improvements active GPU. Search for "digital vibrance" in nvidia Control Panel, set it to 0%, the look of the similar things FRO in ATI Catalyst Control Center. I have suffered from this problem with 1.0.0.0 and my old nvidia GPU. Then she re - calibrate with the DA.

  2 - there are a few flaws not fixed with 1.5:

  One is that there is need MORE calbration patches to measure native gamma. No response from Dell

  Another is the luminance in fixed after writing the values of LUT3D. Change the contrast of luminance or changes of WP. Backlight LED - GB is more or less predictable. Dell/Xrite must patch its software, first of all make an aproximation + 50 cd for desured luminance, then put WP desired with LUT3D and the last to refine luminance/lower luminance in measures very tine. Of couse, it would be preferable to have an iterative process, but I doubt that this will never happen with Dell or Xrite.
  For GB-LEDs: more brightness OSD rises, the colours blue and Red occur. More contrast OSD triggers more green hue is displayed on the screen.
  It seems you case (you have more green WP coordinates as you want). You can try this:
  -Place you CAL1/CAL2 OSD
  -Open DisplaclGUI, "calibrate button" with D65 target, start measuring WP with the three RGB bars. You're not calibrate, it's just to measure WP.
  -Open OSD, brightness & contrast. Try to decrease the contrast by no 1, to be careful of in DispcalGUI measuremet window. Please note that this will lower the luminance to 110-115cd, but if it fixes WP I think it is aceptable.

  -Run check the profile against the new profile.

  You don't need to load a driver for the PERC 6 / i in Server 2008 or newer version, the driver is 'native' for Windows.  If you think that you need a driver, I suspect it is because you tried to install and it is not all discs.  If Yes, do not forget that PERC does NOT support RAID/JBOD, then you must configure disks to a virtual disk (VD, matrix RAID) before they can be presented to the OS.  It can be configured in the CTRL-R utility (be sure to check the boxes of progress/Initialize options too).

  I am installing ESXi4 or 5 on a Dell 2950.  I'm not an expert material guy, but I think the controller is a Perc 5 controller hardware / i.  It is a processor of Intel Xeon dual core CPU 2.

  I see only the processors Xeon 5xxx and above seem to be supported, and I honestly don't know if mine it fits or not but when I had installed CentOS and made ' less/proc/cpuinfo', no model number came, just that it was a Xeon processor.

  When I install ESXi on this server (I turned on hardware virtualization in the BIOS), the installation looks ok, but when the computer restarts, it always seems to try to load my old server CentOS so it's as if the installation has not completely replace the drive. Raid Controller had 2 virtual disks so maybe I didn't replace what was a disc of "boot"?  I will try that next.

  Guess I'm looking for confirmation that the CPU is ok and I'm missing nothing else.

• ESXi 4.0.0 wrong amount of space available to store DATA on DELL 2950

  Well, we brought brand new DELL 2950 server, with following Config Hard / w.

  750 GB x 6 SAS, RAID 10 disks configured.

  Processor Xeon 2 x 2.83

  32 GB OF RAM

  We installed ESXi 4.0 and use the vSphere client for management host, our problem is when we try to add "datastore" it shows still only 45 GB of available space, while storage contoller shows good disc size as 2. 0 t, we tried a new analysis and fresh of the controller and disks, but nothing helped.

  Any suggestions on how we should make our 2. 0 t drive as long as the available space for the DATA store? Please see atacched JPG for problem

• Rebuild the ESX - Dell 2950 Server

  Hey,.

  We have three servers (Dell 2950) running ESX 3.5. One of them seems to act weird and must want needs to be rebuilt. All our servers are connected to a San and we VC installed on another server.

  I was wondering what is the best way to rebuild this server? Never done this before and I don't want to lose any VM etc. Also is there anything I can follow recommended doco?

  DRS is enabled on your cluster? If this is the case, then place the host you want to regenerate in maintenance mode. Computer virtual running on it will be vmotioned off to another ESX host in the cluster. Once the host is in maintenance mode you can turn it off. Remove the host to virtualcenter

  Disconnect the cable to the SAN from the back of the server, or make sure SAN LUNS are not presented to the host through the SAN switch (assuming that the fibers). Disconnecting cables is the safest option

  Rebuild your media host directly or through DRAC virtual media.

  Once rebuilt, return to Virtual Center and add the host; I tend to add again but not in the cluster. Reconnect the cables of your SAN and re-run the analysis for your SAN storage space.

  Once you have the SAN re-presented to the host, then move back to the cluster.

  With 6 discs, I don't want to give up half of my storage.  I use RAID5 and exit the storage most of my pins available.  ESX will run smoothly on one of the RAID configs because it does not support RAID, nor she cares.  The difference here is a slight difference in the performance of the R/W between RAID levels.  With a low number of pins, however, this difference will be almost nil and not perceptible to a degree any.  Use RAID5, get most of storage that you can run as many virtual machines.

  In addition, ESX will not recognize size LUNS greater than 2 TB volumes.  Create multiple logical drives in your RAID set to broadcast your I/O as much as possible.  Your VMFS block size will determine how big of a size of disk file or the virtual machine, you can create on this vmfs.  1 MB (default) = 256 GB max, max 2 MB = 512 GB, 4 MB = 1 to 8 MB = 2 TB max.

• Strange problem with disks on a Dell 2950

  We have a dell 2950

  In it, we have SATA 6 x 1 TB drives, with 1 raid 5 on all disks, and 2 volumes

  1 = 5 GB - for Esxi

  2 = 4.51 to - for storage volume

  When I go to vmware he sees the 4.51 TB storage volume I try to create the data store, and it indicates the total size = 4.51 but aviable = GB 553... anyone got any idea why this is happening... ?

  Welcome to the Forums - the maximum size of the LUNS ESX and ESXi can recognize is 2 TB - break you large LUN less than 2 TB and you will be bale to utlizie it.

  Can I install 2 more large drives and configure another virtual drive using raid 1 also. Clone the smallest on the virtual drive virtual drive bigger and then disable the smaller disks and remove, leaving the large disk as upgrading to start on?

  received this error message. Searched it and found a lot. Some State a bios update is required to fix the bug reports that gives the error.

  I'm under ESX 3.5 on a Dell PowerEdge 2950.

  I'm new to this kind of thing but wanted on the update of the bios. A user says use DSUU dvd to start. Another custom of said work on ESX 3.5. Another said to create a usb bootable and floppy.

  Someone help a brother and give some instructions and color for me?
